I've been getting this question from several potential clients. The question is "What is the difference between AEO and GEO when it comes to the SEO strategy?" It is a great question because it is confusing, so I'm breaking down the difference by using TM Blast as the example. The keyword here is "hourly SEO service." I'm using Microsoft Bing as an example because they have AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) results, and Microsoft CoPilot, which is the GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) results. Typically, great SEO will go into the AEO strategy, but AI-specific optimizations will help with the GEO strategy, since that is being mentioned on other platforms like ChatGPT. Getting into both is the key, which is the case for TM Blast.

00:00Hey everyone, what's going on? Greg here again from Team Blast. I want to go over the difference
00:02between AEO, which stands for Answer Engine Optimization, and GEO, which stands for Generative
00:09Engine Optimization. So to start, I'm in Microsoft Bing. I'm going to search for hourly SEO service.
00:14I'm going to scroll down past the ads. This co-pilot search that shows up directly in the
00:19search results mentions Team Blast. Over here it says SEO audits and strategy reviews. That is an
00:25example of AEO. It's Answer Engine Optimization. So Google, and then also Bing. Anytime you get that
00:32answer box at the very top, that is referring to the AEO strategy. Now I have Microsoft co-pilot. I
00:39have the app open. So I did the same search now, hourly SEO service. And then you'll see, you scroll
00:46down a little bit, $150 an hour. Team Blast is mentioned both as a non-linked mention, but also
00:51as a linked mention as well. So co-pilot, same thing with ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Google,
01:00Gemini. Those are the platforms, those LMs, those are the platforms that will, if you're in the
01:06results, those are the GEO strategy. Now, when you track this from a manual basis, it's really
01:12confusing because there's personalization and everything else that goes into it. So I use a
01:16tool called Outerly.ai. And what I'm doing here is I'm looking at just simply Microsoft co-pilot
01:20because that's the example that I gave both with Bing search, but also co-pilot.
01:24And here's the keyword over here, hourly SEO service. So I can see here again, I'm in
01:29Microsoft co-pilot. If you search for it, I started at a 25% via my mentions, and now I'm
01:37at a 50%.
01:38So I've got responses over here. You'll see that again, with Microsoft co-pilot today, or as of
01:45yesterday, sorry, when you click on hourly SEO service, again, the results can be slightly
01:48different, but it's going to link out to TM blast, but there'll also be mentions to where
01:53it's a non-linked mention. So in summary, I'll go back into this. When you're talking about
01:59SEO and you're talking about, okay, I want to be found on LLMs like chat GPT, but also
02:04want to be ranked at the top within Google and Bing. It's a little bit of an overlap.
02:10So again, AEO answer engine optimization, that's Google and Bing showing something like this,
02:16which is a, uh, answer box, usually at the very top, especially on mobile at the very
02:20top. And if it mentions your brand name or your website, that's the AEO strategy. And
02:25if I open up the co-pilot specific app, when you're featured within the prompt, that's the
02:30geo strategy. So again, perplexity co-pilot, um, uh, chat GPT, Google Gemini. Um, and there's
02:36other ones too, but those are really the main ones. The strategy really comes down to obviously
02:41a, a sound SEO strategy, but then I've made, uh, several videos now about how I've been
02:46using outerly.ai to specifically help improve my visibility for terms like hourly SEO service,
02:53hourly SEO company, and across platforms like co-pilot. So anyway, I hope this video might
02:58have explained some differences of what the two are. Let me know if you guys have any more
03:01questions, uh, leave them in the comment section and as always have a good rest of your day.
