00:00Ashley Bastock got very Twitter famous over the weekend as she had videos of Taylor Swift
00:07and Travis Kelsey walking in the underside of the Q, a.k.a. Rocket, whatever the hell
00:14they call that thing now, and so famous, in fact, she appeared on the New Heights podcast.
00:21This little reaction you guys got teed up here, the Cleveland Sports Radio reaction.
00:24I've seen many jokes online to this effect that, man, this is our chance to get Taylor to really fall
00:31in love with Cleveland
00:32and the idea of Cleveland sports, and then she definitely got a good introduction to the Cleveland sports scene,
00:39but I wish it had been more fun. I wish it had been better, but that's the reality, I think,
00:44of being a Cleveland sports fan.
00:45I'm sure Travis Kelsey has filled her in on that.
00:49She just got baptized.
00:51And so that was from her appearance with Daryl and Nick Padone on the Sunday show after the way Game
00:573 went.
00:59As you guys might know, you might not know, she is a gigantic Taylor Swift fan,
01:04so I think this is about, I think this week might be the peak for her, and to talk to
01:09her about it,
01:09we head out to the Wiseheart Wright, We Make It Right Call, Kyle Wright Hotline of Cleveland.com.
01:14Of the Orange in Brown Talk podcast, Ashley Bastock joins us now.
01:19Ashley, congratulations.
01:21Guys, thank you so much. I am truly like, what is life? How is this happening?
01:27But I will say, I need to give the clip makers over at 92.3 a chance to clip this.
01:33Like, of me talking about Taylor Swift, on this very show, actually, I typically always bring up the fact that
01:39I'm a huge Swifty,
01:40and that's like maybe the one clip of me that exists where I'm not saying I'm a huge Swifty.
01:45So, like, for the record, New Heights and New Heights fans, I am a huge, huge, huge, huge Swifty.
01:52So, definitely thought that was very, very surreal to see this morning.
01:58Wow, I mean, that's just a bad job. No follow-up from Daryl and Nick Padone there.
02:01Yeah, that's why if their first appearance had been on this show, we would have had that for you.
02:06We would have made sure that was included. That's how this happens.
02:10Swing and a miss.
02:11Not like a Deshaun Watson style, so we're going to miss that.
02:14You know, not like that.
02:15Wait, what was your interaction like?
02:17Like, when you were close to Taylor, obviously, and you're trying to get some video, I saw that.
02:22At any point, did you just think, screw it, I'm going to go for the selfie or something crazy?
02:27No, I mean, like, they were surrounded by so much security.
02:31So, you know, I'm kind of, like, sussing out the situation while I was down there.
02:36And there was just so much security, I figured, like, she's not stopping for a selfie unless you were a
02:41little kid, basically,
02:42which you get in a situation like that.
02:45But the video I posted of them, you very shakily hear me say, hi, guys, congrats,
02:52because it's, like, all that my brain could process at halftime of Game 3 the other night.
02:57So, yeah, it definitely was not something I was prepared for as I headed to Rocket Arena for Game 3.
03:05But, yeah, very, very surreal that it happened.
03:08And, obviously, unfortunately, that the Cavs just laid an egg in that game, too.
03:12I'm a big believer in visualizing the positive things you want in life, Ashley.
03:18And that's why I think they're going to start visualizing what you're going to do the next time.
03:24Because, I mean, again, like, Travis is going to retire in the near future.
03:27They're getting married.
03:28He just bought some of the Guardians.
03:30This isn't going to be the only time you're going to see Tay-Tay in a spot.
03:33So, what I think is next time, as she passes, you just start singing a bar or two of your
03:41favorite Taylor Swift song.
03:42Oh, no, that sounds like a miserable idea.
03:43Oh, no, it's, I just, see what, see what, see what, you think Taylor Swift doesn't like to hear her
03:48own music?
03:49I think she, I don't know that this is the right call.
03:52Maybe give her a bracelet instead, a Taylor Swift bracelet.
03:55Oh, that's, that's psycho stuff.
03:56That's what I'm thinking.
03:57Oh, that's her bit.
03:57That's her whole thing, the bracelet.
03:59It's the bracelet.
03:59Friends.
04:00It's the thing.
04:00Friends give her bracelets.
04:03Fans give her music back to her.
04:07No one's buying that.
04:09I guess you don't have the swag to pull it off, Ashley.
04:11I thought you were a Taylor Swift fan.
04:13Come on.
04:14Taylor's going to look at her like she's a crazy person if she sings their songs to her.
04:18You are not going to bait me into making a fool of myself, Nick Wilson.
04:22That's all he's trying to do here.
04:23I don't know why he's trying to set you up for failure.
04:25I don't know, I don't know why, Ashley.
04:26I'm sorry, I wanted you to be best friends with Taylor Swift.
04:28But listen to the cynic, all-time cynic, Jonathan Jeterlin.
04:32Would you be friends with anyone if they came up and like, I don't know, shouted one of
04:35your sports takes in their face?
04:37Yeah.
04:37No, you wouldn't be.
04:38No, you wouldn't.
04:38You'd be like, get this psycho away from me.
04:40No.
04:41Why are you recounting my cab suck takes?
04:43Let me ask you.
04:44Are they quoting it accurately back to me?
04:47I would imagine so.
04:48If they're doing what Ken and Anthony do every time they play a clip of ours and can't get
04:51the context right, then I'd be pissed.
04:53Yeah.
04:53But if they're just vibing, if they're just like, hey, you would choose Evan Mobley over
04:59Donovan Mitchell.
04:59I'm like, hell yeah, buddy.
05:01Taylor's going to hear that and be like, Ashley, we've needed you to open this entire time.
05:05It's like I'm hearing the real thing.
05:07It's not going to happen.
05:08Yeah.
05:09Or she would be like, this woman must be such a fan that I have to go over and say,
05:14that is, you sing it better than I do.
05:16Travis, these are the crazy, I tell you about all the time, these crazy, this is one of them.
05:20And then Travis would be like, oh, this is so cool.
05:22Meanwhile, bracelet with like the song that you picked out, something special and meaningful
05:25for yourself because the bracelets is part of the thing in Taylor's world.
05:28She'd be like, oh, she'd probably take it.
05:30She'd probably wear it a little bit.
05:31So you have photos of her wearing your bracelet that you made.
05:33And it's just a great moment because I agree with you.
05:35She was only stopping for little kids.
05:37And I actually love that about Taylor.
05:38I bet you if you got a wheelchair, you could have gotten a visit.
05:41Hey, bad news, by the way.
05:43Bad news.
05:45Ashley is part.
05:46Ashley's gone silent, by the way.
05:48Ashley, I railed against the Brown social media team for only posting bad things about
05:54Shador and positive Deshaun Watson touchdown throws.
05:58I railed against Daryl because Daryl fell victim to that as well today.
06:01And then I'm on your Twitter and I see like six different Deshaun Watson touchdown throws
06:05and not one.
06:08Not one involving Shador Sanders and his touchdown pass today.
06:12And I'm just I don't know what to make of that.
06:15Well, I think there were instances today where you look at these 11 on 11 drills in these
06:21competitive periods.
06:22And again, like Deshaun Watson was just out there more.
06:25And also the early like two spotting that sort of depended on where you were on the field.
06:32And that was sort of walkthrough style.
06:33Guys didn't even have helmets on.
06:35That's actually the period in which my call went down and had to leave practice today as well.
06:40So it definitely felt like Deshaun Watson just had more of those reps today.
06:46And that's kind of what I was seeing.
06:49But it was it was sort of more of the same from Deshaun Watson.
06:52And as I pointed out on Twitter, all three of those guys in Deshaun, Shador and Dylan Gabriel
06:58had interceptions today.
07:00I actually think for the most part, they weren't the quarterback's fault because all of them
07:03were either off of receiver's hands or off of a receiver's chest.
07:08So that's kind of where we're at.
07:09We know Todd Munkin hates those interceptions.
07:12But I mean, I do think in terms of the touchdown production, Deshaun Watson had the edge today.
07:18But I mean, again, it's May and it's an OTA.
07:22So you got to take everything with a grain of salt.
07:25Like Kevin Stefanski used to call these passing camps for a reason.
07:27All right.
07:28So that brings us to this point.
07:30JP doesn't want to say it.
07:32JP thinks there's I don't say conspiracy, but conspiracy.
07:36I would never use the word conspiracy.
07:37That's what I'm saying right now, that he believes that the coverage and the amount of positive
07:43pro Deshaun clips and the amount of pro Shador clips are that there's a disparity and that
07:50there's something fishy about that.
07:51Can you speak right now, Ashley, in front of all of Cleveland, the world even?
07:55Is there a conspiracy to make Deshaun Watson?
07:59I wouldn't use conspiracy.
07:59That's my words.
08:00Is there a conspiracy?
08:02Do you know of a conspiracy to basically, you know, elevate Deshaun and maybe minimize Shador?
08:09Well, to use your guys' words and conspiracy, no, I don't think there is.
08:15I mean, I think that word has gotten thrown around quite a bit.
08:19But, you know, I think we talked about this a little bit last week, maybe.
08:24But this idea of the sort of on our podcast, we talked about it, the Deshaun Watson sort
08:29of soft launch, right?
08:31So I think those two ideas, though, are very different.
08:34And these OTA practices, like a little peek behind the curtain for fans who may not know,
08:40they are not all open, right?
08:42This is their fifth OTA practice.
08:44It's only the second one we as media have been able to attend.
08:48We'll only get one more out of the 10 total.
08:51So it's one a week.
08:52So what we have seen, I mean, Deshaun Watson has gotten the bulk of the opportunities.
08:59So if that's happening on the days we aren't here, I would guess there's just simply more
09:07Deshaun Watson content.
09:08The problem is we don't know that for sure, right?
09:11And the only time we're going to be out here on back-to-back days is for the mandatory veteran
09:16minicamp.
09:17That's three straight days coming up here in two weeks.
09:20So I think maybe that'll provide a fuller picture.
09:23But these two practices that we've been out here, I mean, it just seems like we're seeing
09:27more of Deshaun Watson.
09:28He looks very sure of himself, very confident.
09:31I don't think there's any conspiracy about this.
09:34But in terms of like the outside looking in, and I said this last week, it's different
09:38because Shador Sanders, obviously very, very popular, very large fan base.
09:45Deshaun Watson is very unpopular, especially among Browns fans.
09:50So it's a very interesting dichotomy playing out on social media right now.
09:55But I don't think we are in conspiracy territory.
09:59No, not conspiracy territory.
10:01The only thing I pointed out was Browns in the past five days.
10:04Deshaun Watson, dart of a throw, and then a clip of Deshaun throwing a touchdown.
10:08Meanwhile, Shador, the love that he got was a throw that should have been an interception
10:12that then bounced up and was caught by a wide receiver.
10:15That's definitely not a conspiracy, Ashley.
10:17No, that's all.
10:18Just keep it.
10:19And then Daryl, and then Daryl today, Daryl only posted a Deshaun touchdown and then posted
10:23a Shador Sanders interception.
10:24Did not give Shador's touchdown any video love on his feed.
10:28That's all.
10:29It's not a conspiracy theory.
10:30It's just, you know, keeping track.
10:34Man, don't give Daryl too hard of a time if he's on after me.
10:38That's all I'm going to say.
10:39We've been out here working.
10:40He joins us at 440 today.
10:42I'll let it go.
10:43Listen, Ashley, you made the deal right now.
10:44I'll let it go.
10:45We don't have to sideswipe Daryl.
10:46I just don't think Nick's going to, he's not going to sign up for that.
10:48Yep.
10:49I'm going to sideswipe him.
10:50He's going to sideswipe him.
10:51And then we're going to have to explain to Daryl what's going on, and he's going to have
10:54no idea.
10:55He's going to be very lost, and he's going to be very confused.
10:57And I'm going to have a lot of fun with it, Ashley.
10:58And then he's going to text me later and be like, why are you trying to tell people that
11:01I'm doing?
11:02And it's like, that's just a joke.
11:03It's not really that serious.
11:04But he's very serious about it.
11:06Very serious.
11:06So what else did you see at camp today?
11:09Yeah, you know, I actually spent quite a bit of time watching this defense today.
11:16And it's interesting, right?
11:18Because the key players on defense still are not out there.
11:21Now, we had Grant Delpit out at practice today, but he was watching, wasn't participating.
11:26Also, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, the rookie safety, just watching today, not practicing.
11:31And of course, no Miles Garrett, no Denzel Ward.
11:35But this defense had three picks, which I mentioned earlier.
11:40They had some pretty good pass breakups.
11:42You know, you can kind of see this energy from Mike Rutenberg and how it's translating.
11:46Mason Graham last week, and I think we saw this more today, talked about how this D-line,
11:52a lot has remained the same from them in terms of how they are attacking.
11:56And I think that's significant because it's obviously worked well.
12:00And I'm really, I think, just intrigued to see this group together because I don't think
12:06we're going to see them together at this rate until that mandatory mini camp and really
12:10try to get a feel for how this looks.
12:13Because, I mean, Mike Rutenberg, very obviously energetic, passionate coordinator, asked him
12:18today about, you know, you can kind of see him very encouraging, I'll say.
12:24These guys who celebrate when they make a play, I think that was something big that I noticed
12:29very animatedly.
12:31And he talked about just sort of establishing the culture and that they want to preach like
12:35the ball is oxygen, all of those things.
12:38And so I know, like, Todd Munkin hates these interceptions in what is supposed to be a huge
12:44advantage for your offense in these practices where there's no pads, no real hitting.
12:49But Mike Rutenberg was certainly happy with his unit's ability to turn the ball over and
12:54get some of those takeaways today.
12:55All right, Ashley.
12:57We have every time I think we're safe from a Miles Garrett, what's going on here?
13:04Is it going to be a traded conversation?
13:07It pops up again.
13:08In fairness, I did ask Albert Breer about it yesterday, but that's because it keeps popping
13:12up.
13:13So do you have any working theories on why the Miles trade chatter won't go away?
13:20Yeah, I mean, my working theory is that it's May in an NFL offseason and there's, you know,
13:28going to be things every year around this time of year that people speculate about.
13:34I think, like, one of the biggest that could have been going on would be Aaron Rodgers,
13:39but that sort of got settled, right?
13:42So folks need something to talk about.
13:44It becomes a talking point.
13:46I sort of understand it.
13:47But I also don't think until I've said this before, until Miles does something that we
13:53haven't seen him do, then, like, it's not a story.
13:57It's not a thing to me.
13:59So as long as he's here at mandatory minicamp, hey, that's going to end all of this.
14:04But I just think given the fact that it's Miles, given the fact that it's the Browns, and I
14:10think nationally the Browns sort of become an easy target sometimes, that this is happening.
14:15But that's really my working theory is that while the NFL, I think, as a league does a
14:19great job of managing content year-round with their schedule, it's still sort of a dead time
14:25of year.
14:25So that's why I think it just sort of keeps popping back up over and over.
14:29Ashley, I know we josh around a lot here, and we give you a hard time sometime.
14:33I was very happy you got to see Tay-Tay at Rocket Mortgage, whatever they call it now.
14:39And I was even happier to see the new Heights thing.
14:41You deserve all the good stuff.
14:43We appreciate you.
14:43And don't sing around Taylor.
14:45Sing around Taylor.
14:47Don't do it.
14:47No, I won't sing.
14:49But thank you guys.
14:49And again, for the people that make the clips, huge Swifty since I was like 13.
14:54Went to the air as Kurt twice.
14:55I've seen her in Cleveland like four times.
14:58Trust me, this is very surreal.
15:01That's the only real word I have for it.
15:03Well, we're definitely making a clip about this.
15:04This one's got it.
15:06There's no way.
15:07Keith Britton, you know Keith, got a great sense of humor on him.
15:11He loves posting funny stuff out there, personality stuff.
15:15Stop taking a shot at our boss.
15:17Actually, we'll see if it gets posted.
15:18I don't know.
15:18It's probably not going to get posted.
15:19Probably not.
15:21Maybe it should or a touchdown will get posted before that.
15:23But I don't know.
15:24No, any serious take ahead of day, that's going up.
15:27Just get ready for it.
15:29All right.
15:30Thanks, guys.
15:31Ashley Bastock, Cleveland.com, the Orange and Brown Talk podcast.
15:35He's not for levity.
