00:00I don't know that anybody on planet Earth can figure out why Deshaun keeps talking the way that he keeps
00:03talking.
00:04Yeah, it's interesting.
00:06Listen, Deshaun went off on Browns fans in the media, was it, three weeks ago now, three Saturdays ago,
00:12and he did not hide his contempt whatsoever.
00:15And mostly, the Browns messaging has been, I just need to get that off his chest.
00:21He has moved on.
00:22Well, today's press conference, and I think this was the biggest one, but there's a couple things we can glean
00:27from it.
00:28Today's press conference from Deshaun is heard on the space in between mornings and afternoons for some shows around here.
00:35He talked about what he feels he needs to have a good performance in Week 2.
00:42No, I think personally, I think all that is for the media.
00:46I mean, I think the media has this expectation that I'm supposed to throw 400 yards and five touchdowns every
00:51week.
00:52So until that happens, I guess it's going to be the same situation.
00:55So, again, my job is to make sure I'm operating well so we can try to get a win and
01:00keep moving forward from there.
01:02That doesn't sound like a guy who knows that he was part of a 34-10 loss on Sunday.
01:08It's just ridiculous to come out of his mouth.
01:10And the snark that he has when delivering it and that wry smile that he delivers off,
01:15like he just continues to show no understanding of any moment ever.
01:19Yeah, and listen, I've given up the idea that Deshaun Watson will have self-awareness or take accountability for himself.
01:27But from now on, from that Saturday, a few Saturdays back, where Deshaun just, again, took a flamethrower,
01:35not to the Browns media, that's one thing, but to Browns fans,
01:38everything that happens after that moment is on the Browns organization as much as it is on Deshaun.
01:44And even today, I mean, or even this week, Todd Munkin cavalierly throwing out
01:49that not only is Deshaun going to start on Sunday against Baker Mayfield,
01:54the last game before the home opener, you know, two Sundays from now,
01:58but that he really didn't have any sort of thoughts about not starting Deshaun Watson.
02:03And continuing to tell everybody how good he looked.
02:04And so the truth is, I don't take offense to the fact that Deshaun called out the media.
02:10Ari Myrov, that weird turd, sorry, weird aggregating turd.
02:16I probably should have said more specifically, oh, Deshaun calls out the Browns.
02:20I don't give a rat's ass.
02:21I don't care what that guy thinks.
02:24All right, there's not been a part of me that has seen much of him,
02:27and certainly the last two years, there were a couple of human moments,
02:31the first three years that he were here, whether it was the Baltimore win or that first camp,
02:36the second year where he actually talked a little bit, and it seemed like maybe Deshaun
02:42was understanding of where he was.
02:43I've got like two moments that I can put and say, hey, Deshaun felt like the Browns quarterback
02:48or something close to it.
02:49That's in five years, but certainly none of them are in the last two years.
02:53To me, it continues to show that this is the most reluctant Browns quarterback
02:59since maybe Trent Dilfer in 2005.
03:01Would he also look like a hostage coming to Cleveland?
03:04I also, I just don't think he understands 100% of the reason why the fan base is upset
03:09and why the media are upset and why they, in his own words, is wanting more from him,
03:14essentially is all he's asking for.
03:15I just don't think he understands it all.
03:17Yes, a lot of people are frustrated for the whole entire time you've been here, yes,
03:21but if we're just boiling it down to this season, no one's asking you for a 400-yard,
03:25five-touchdown performance every week.
03:27We're asking you for competency.
03:28We're asking you for it to be an all-right, acceptable, not embarrassing quarterback.
03:32You didn't hit that bar in week one.
03:34Yeah, and it's weird that he thinks he does.
03:36We're going to get into his own assessment from week one and what he might or might not believe,
03:44but when the best thing I've got about your week one performance is that the Browns say
03:50there were a lot of good things on film, and then everyone else who watches film came away
03:55and say, and which one were those?
03:57Like, there was a – I don't even know who the guy was.
03:59Just some – because, again, the media's never been bigger.
04:02The sports media's never been bigger.
04:03There was a guy like, why do I feel like I'm the only one talking about this play?
04:06And it was Deshaun's touchdown pass in garbage time to Denzel Boston.
04:11And it's like, I don't know, fella, probably because the score was 34-3.
04:15Yeah, probably because the game was out of reach and it didn't matter.
04:17You know what, you're right, that one good throw, that great throw, it was a great throw
04:21by Deshaun, that one great throw whitewashes the rest of crap that I watched, which, by
04:27the way, since we watched it, the Browns have went out of their way to say, I think people
04:32are overreacting to Deshaun Watson's performance.
04:35He really – there was some good stuff there.
04:37Okay, sure.
04:38Well, that's what they've been trying to build up this narrative, and they've been
04:40doing this over the past couple days.
04:42The idea that there was much better there than what we were obviously watching, and the game
04:46got away from everyone so quick, and so it just – we just have to accept it.
04:49That's all that is.
04:50We just have to sit down and accept it.
04:52It's just – and it's embarrassing all the way around that this is what they're doing
04:55to us and how they're trying to tell us how wrong we are when we watch the games.
04:58I just think my frustration is, does Deshaun not have expectations for himself?
05:04Because I think that's really – when I listened to that, I was like, oh, he thinks he's
05:08already done the job, right?
05:09Like, they lost 34-10.
05:11I mean, there's no way.
05:13I mean, the only way that exists is that he just has no awareness in general, and so he
05:16just thinks –
05:16Which is on the table.
05:17Yeah, because he's clearly shown that time and time again.
05:20But you have to be a bird brain of a human to not realize what happened on Sunday and
05:25then turn around and think that that's not only acceptable, but also something that you
05:28can continue to do.
05:29Well, let's go over what my expectations are for Deshaun Watson.
05:33I expect you to have the Browns competitive in games.
05:36I expect you to operationally be sound because that's what they say you do better than the
05:42other quarterbacks in the room.
05:43I expect you to not turn the ball over.
05:46And, oh, gosh, if you could – let's see.
05:49Oh, if you could actually look like you have burst again in the running game, which is another
05:53reason why they said you're starting.
05:54But this is the whole point.
05:55We're not asking for him to be Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes.
05:58Nobody has ever put that at the feet of Deshaun.
05:59And there's been zero expectations this year that he would morph into a top-five quarterback
06:03and finally pay off any bit of the $230 million contract.
06:07Nobody's had that expectation.
06:09Nobody's thought he was going to deliver on that.
06:11No one's expected that.
06:12We just – we would have been over the moon for middle-of-the-road quarterback play.
06:16And a more competitive week one.
06:19So why is he taking this to the extreme, though?
06:21Why is he taking this to the idea that, oh, they just want 400 yards and five touchdowns
06:25and I'll never be able to please you guys?
06:27Do you want the answer that really pisses me off?
06:29Sure.
06:29You want the answer that if I start talking about it, it is going to make me lose my mind
06:34just a little bit?
06:35Deshaun thinks he's the victim in this.
06:38He does.
06:39He thinks that the big bad media is unfair to him.
06:42He thinks Browns fans are unfair to him.
06:44And why?
06:45Because there's an organization that traded him for him five years ago that have constantly
06:50shielded him and coddled him and kept him away from bearing responsibility of being the
06:57face of the franchise.
06:58Because here's the thing.
07:00It's not even that I can't get functional quarterback play.
07:02I can't get a guy that represents the Browns organization with a modicum.
07:08I bring just a modicum of respect to this organization.
07:11That's what infuriates me.
07:12It's all a joke, Tim, is what infuriates me.
07:15Everything's just one big joke to him.
07:16And that's fine.
07:17At the end of this, he'll cash his $230 million.
07:19And so maybe the joke's on us.
07:20But this is our team.
07:21This is what we root for day in, day out.
07:23This is what we watch day in, day out.
07:24And by the way, message to the fans out there.
07:26Anybody that thinks that right now we're just angry because he mentioned the media and singled
07:31out the media, I can get the tweets already coming.
07:33I know it.
07:34I know it's going to happen out there.
07:35You're feeling it.
07:35Well, understand this.
07:36He was talking to you guys.
07:38Yeah.
07:38The Browns banned him, essentially, from saying, and rightfully so, very smart directive from
07:43them to be like, don't say fans.
07:45And don't go after the fans.
07:46Could you not take a blowtorch to fans again?
07:49Because that makes our jobs tougher.
07:50Just don't call out the fan base.
07:52And so his way, his roundabout way of doing that is, ah, the media.
07:55The media is the one that wants 400 yards and five touchdowns.
07:58He's saying you guys as well.
08:00He's saying you, the fans, have way too high of expectations for himself.
08:04And that's, it's just utterly ridiculous.
08:06I don't think this is a one-sided fight.
08:07And this is us just being angry as media members because he's calling us out.
08:11No, he's calling everybody out.
08:12And by the way, if the Browns are coming off a 34-10 win and Deshaun had whatever stat
08:18line he had on Sunday against Jacksonville, I don't, I don't, I don't think I care about
08:24his response today.
08:26It's the tone deafness after getting completely worked and, hey, I'm just one of 54 guys.
08:32I'm just, you know, just me and a couple of my teammates.
08:35No, you are the quarterback of this team and you have been for five years.
08:39And no one has given any expectation other than just not vomit all over your own shoes.
08:48That's all.
08:49That's the fair expectation.
08:51Not look like a $235 million quarterback, not be the face of a franchise, which Baker
08:56Mayfield was more than willing to do, which Bernie Kosar still acts like the face of the
09:01franchise because he understands what this town, what this team means to this town.
09:06No, no, no.
09:06No, just look like you actually belong on an NFL field.
09:10And honestly, none of the three reasons why they said you're starting, you couldn't even
09:15clear those bars.
09:17I don't care if Deshaun likes me.
09:19I don't, I really don't care.
09:21It is not on my, my periphery of things that matter to me.
09:25If Deshaun sits at home on Leroy Bickerstaff's Twitter account and thinks to himself, oh, I'm
09:30flaming the Cleveland media.
09:31I stopped thinking about you outside of one to four every single Sunday.
09:35And every time I hear you speak into a damn microphone, I don't need you to like me.
09:39I don't care if you like me, but the least you could do is not be a complete waste of
09:45time, which is all Deshaun has been for the entirety of his five years here.
09:49And the worst part is now they know it just as much as he knows it.
09:54And they continue to make us watch and listen to this guy as if anything's going to change
09:59because sample size, or we got to get back our investment or some other insulting degradation
10:05that Browns fans.
10:07And yes, to some regard, Browns media have to go ahead and endure at the hands of this
10:12Browns organization and that quarterback.
10:15It's just embarrassing.
10:16The whole thing's embarrassing.
10:17The way that he treats everyone that is a Browns fan is embarrassing.
10:21The way this organization has been under Deshaun in recent months, treating the fan base is
10:25embarrassing.
10:26And you guys deserve better.
10:27There's no other way to put it.
10:28Everyone deserves better around this conversation.
