A shocking kidnapping incident in Punjab’s Mohali district triggered panic and outrage after a four-year-old girl was allegedly abducted in broad daylight outside her grandparents’ house in Kurali area.

The dramatic incident, captured on CCTV cameras, was later found to be linked to an ongoing custody dispute between the child’s parents.

According to reports, the girl had just returned home from school on a scooter with her grandparents near Singhpura village when the incident took place.

As the grandmother stepped down to open the gate, two men on a motorcycle allegedly approached and attempted to snatch the child from her grandfather, leading to a struggle on the road.

Moments later, a white sedan reportedly arrived at the spot and several more men stepped out to assist the bikers. Despite the grandparents desperately trying to protect the child, the abductors allegedly overpowered them and forced the girl into the car before fleeing.

The viral CCTV footage reportedly shows the grandparents risking their lives by standing in front of the getaway vehicle and clinging to it in an attempt to stop the kidnappers. The driver allegedly tried to run them over before escaping, leaving both grandparents injured. Reports said they later suffered fractures and were hospitalised.

The child’s father, a government school teacher, immediately accused his estranged wife and her relatives of planning the kidnapping due to an ongoing legal battle over the girl’s custody.

“We have a case ongoing over the child’s custody. Nonetheless, she took the law into her hands and did this,” the father alleged. He also claimed that his mother-in-law and a man identified as Sandeep Kumar were involved.

Following widespread outrage over the viral footage, Mohali Police launched a massive search operation using multiple special teams.

Police later confirmed that the child was safely rescued within six hours of the abduction.

SP (Rural) stated that preliminary investigation indicated the incident stemmed from the custody dispute. The girl’s mother has reportedly been arrested and booked in the case, while police continue searching for her accomplices and the alleged hired abductors.

Authorities are currently examining CCTV footage and questioning all those involved as the investigation continues.
