00:00I'm not saying this because I want this to happen.
00:02I'm not saying this because it's that I'm excited for it.
00:07I'm saying it because I think it's the fact.
00:09I think the kangaroo court has been called to a close here.
00:12I think Deshaun is the starting quarterback.
00:14And I think you saw it in Todd Munkin's reaction to Deshaun's performance on Saturday.
00:22You saw it in the way that they have put reps forth for the joint practices
00:27and the way even Munkin's saying it would be unfair to Shador
00:31to not give him the start against the Bills.
00:33Kind of makes it sound like, yeah, he already made up his mind
00:36and he's just now being – which is another thing we can explore, by the way.
00:39I get why he feels like he doesn't want to cheat Shador out of that whole experience.
00:44But also, if you made up your mind, then just you made up your mind.
00:47Yeah.
00:48I mean, again, whether it was any big to do or not,
00:52they clearly changed up the reps after talking to the media two Saturdays ago.
00:57So the idea that you can't change your mind if you've already in your mind
01:01named Deshaun the starter, then you should probably just give Deshaun those reps
01:06because that's not what's fair, but that's what's fair to the starters
01:11who have to go out there week one against Jackson.
01:12And it does.
01:13It feels like that's – Munkin just wants to be fair.
01:15And I feel like in this spot, he doesn't want to feel like he's just
01:18straight lying to the team, essentially is what that is.
01:21Which I would beg the question then, why did you give everyone a two-week plan
01:25if you weren't going to actually follow through with the two-week plan?
01:28Yeah.
01:28That part just doesn't make any sense.
01:30Like, if you had enough to see with Deshaun Watson in the game against the Bears,
01:34because basically you just wanted to see if he could stand upright
01:36at the end of the day and not embarrass himself,
01:38then okay, then give us a one-week plan.
01:40Don't give us a two-week plan that outlines when Shador's going to get his chance
01:43and his opportunity.
01:44Give us a one-week plan and tell everyone you're going to reassess from there.
01:47So, quite frankly, what I thought was going to be a big week for Shador,
01:51I now don't think that at all.
01:53I don't think Shador has a chance to win this job.
01:55And if it is, I think it is a minuscule chance,
01:58because I think we're seeing the way Todd Munkin is leaning.
02:01It seems pretty obvious.
02:03And this is not just the Kalshi market speaking here, Nick.
02:06This is just us reading the tea weaves and then seeing how they've gone about this.
02:10And again, I took him being excited in the post-game press conference,
02:14because I think Deshaun was even better than he thought he was going to be.
02:17And the idea that Munkin didn't have maybe the highest aspirations,
02:20all things considered, but he needed to pass a test.
02:23The test is, we don't need to see you throw the ball down the field.
02:26We need to see you just complete passes and make the obvious throws.
02:29And you hear people like Coach Riz, they loved what they saw.
02:32And that's going to be enough for someone like Munkin.
02:34I just think it's interesting that I feel like we've really started to hear
02:38a lot of Shador's support over the last two to three weeks.
02:41A lot of people asking,
02:42what the hell are you doing with this Deshaun Watson nonsense?
02:45And it just hasn't slowed the train for the Browns at all.
02:49We just saw it the last 24 hours.
02:51Kyle Brandt goes out in this big impassioned,
02:53what are the Browns doing?
02:54It should be Shador Sanders.
02:56He should be the person in charge right now.
02:58And again, there's a lot to watching Shador push the ball down the field
03:03and think, that's a quarterback that I can at least do something with.
03:05And I need to see if there's something more with.
03:08The Browns don't appear to want to go down that avenue and see that right now.
03:12Yeah, and listen, we're not going to get transparency on this.
03:18They don't owe us transparency.
03:20I do like that Todd Munkin gives us transparency on some things.
03:24I've now said transparency about three times.
03:28I'm dying to know what the hell is, what Shador is doing wrong.
03:32Because it's not cadence.
03:34It's not like, there has to be something that Shador is not doing.
03:38Falling asleep in meetings, disrespecting his elders.
03:43There has to be something other.
03:45Because we've seen, for most of camp, Shador look like the better player.
03:49And even, like, there was not a huge gap between Deshaun and Shador on Saturday.
03:54And again, kudos to Deshaun for the game that he had.
03:57He played better than we thought.
03:59Yeah, but even Saturday, some of the things that Munkin's looking for,
04:01Deshaun failed with.
04:03The delayed timeout.
04:04Getting people in and out of the offense.
04:07Burning the timeouts, excuse me, was another part of this.
04:11There was a lot that he had that just didn't, if it was Shador,
04:16it wouldn't have passed the sniff test.
04:17Yeah, and what's weird about it is, just take Shador and Deshaun off of it.
04:21Just from the profile side of things, it makes no sense to start Deshaun.
04:26It doesn't.
04:27There's no other team that would have Deshaun as the backup this year,
04:31after the four previous years.
04:34Let alone, having him be their starter.
04:36Which is why, when we do the convo of, like, where is this coming from?
04:39That's why I always go back to Haslam and Andrew Barry.
04:41Because if we can't find the answers on the surface,
04:43and we're trying to figure out why it would benefit anybody,
04:45well, it benefits the people that right now,
04:47that's the biggest trade in NFL history that their name is attached to,
04:51and it's an absolute failure.
04:53And they're trying to find some way to make that right.
04:55That's why Munkin just almost seems like an innocent bystander in all this.
04:58If you actually look at him side by side,
05:00and can't, for football reasons,
05:02see anything but a close competition that should still be a competition.
05:06Yeah, I find it very hard to believe that,
05:10of all the things Todd Munkin would be willing to barter with
05:14to get the head coaching job at the Cleveland Browns,
05:16I find it very hard to believe that the starting quarterback would be one of them.
05:21I don't.
05:21I just find it impossible.
05:23He wanted to be a head coach.
05:24This is your answer.
05:25You want to be a head coach?
05:26This is your call.
05:27Nobody else is knocking on that doorstep.
05:28And, oh, by the way, $50 million over five years,
05:31that's also a pretty good incentive to do what the owner wants as well.
05:33I think there is, again, I think you can stretch the
05:36I'll do a lot to become a head coach pretty far.
05:40I refuse to believe.
05:41The paycheck with it's not bad either.
05:42Because here's the thing,
05:43I think you're giving the Peter Lynn pass for Deshaun.
05:45I don't think we should.
05:46I think it is very apparent.
05:49That was a faded Peter Lynn pass.
05:50Yeah.
05:51Yeah.
05:52I think you're giving a stronger Peter Lynn pass than that.
05:54A little bit of audience.
05:55Peter Lynn pass.
05:56A little closer to that one.
05:57I have no reason or incentive to give Munkin a Peter Lynn pass in any of this.
06:00I just, I'm just, the straight shooter is calling it how he sees it.
06:04Truth broker.
06:05Where have I seen Jimmy Haslam call out how the quarterback prediction is going to go before?
06:11Oh, wait.
06:12Look to last year.
06:13We called it directly to a man how it was going to go down
06:16and the quarterbacks were going to be used and when they were going to be used.
06:18Like, this is how he operates.
06:20And that's, and who's got stake in trying to make sure
06:22that you can squeeze something more out of Deshaun Watson.
06:25It's Jimmy Haslam.
06:26It's Andrew Barry.
06:27I'm just letting common sense prevail for myself.
06:28It really isn't any sort of indictment on Munkin.
06:31It's, it's, it's not even giving him a pass in any sort of way.
06:34It's just calling it for how I see it and how I've seen it with the Browns for years.
06:37Yeah.
06:38I think Todd, um, I think, I think Todd disclosed his wildest desires
06:44with Deshaun Watson over the weekend.
06:47And, and I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm trying to give him credit.
06:49Like he was genuinely enthusiastic about how Deshaun looked.
06:54And again, Deshaun looked fine.
06:57Like if we take it, I would have given him a C.
06:59I would have given him a C for the game because he didn't throw the ball down the field,
07:02but he also didn't have a big oopsie.
07:04And he did operate the offense efficiently.
07:07He had the fumble.
07:08Um, yeah, beyond that one.
07:10But, but with the offensive line, because I actually disagree with, uh, coach Rislin.
07:14I thought the offensive line played like garbage.
07:16I think you had multiple plays where you had three offensive linemen out in like specific
07:22plays where they had the positioning and then they O laid on the, the blockers or they,
07:28they O laid on the blocks.
07:30I thought the offensive line was bad as well.
07:31Like, uh, so again, like with grading on a curve, I'd give him a B and you would have
07:37thought the man cured cancer with the way that Todd Munkin talked about him.
07:41That, that did not sound like a man that was, that was being held to playing Deshaun Watson.
07:46No, I, that's not like a man that is enthusiastic about playing Deshaun Watson.
07:49No, I just think we see this a little bit differently and that's okay.
07:52The way I took it and the way I will maintain taking it is that I think the expectation for
07:58Deshaun was so low with Munkin's mind, uh, that he was just happy to see him look formidable.
08:03And that's something that Munkin knows he can go through this season.
08:05If you have Deshaun looking like that, where he's completing passes, he's not even stretching
08:09the field in any sort of way, but he's completing passes.
08:11He's finding Concepcion.
08:12The procedures that look fine and you're not embarrassing yourself out there.
08:16Well, by the way, putting points on the board, I feel like he thinks that's going to be enough
08:19to get them ahead of embarrassing, which is the, the wine that Munkin has to at least
08:24pass until you can figure this whole quarterback thing out to get them to 20, 27.
08:28So while we're talking about how big of a week is this for Shador, Daryl Ryder on this
08:33very own station said this about Shador.
08:37This might be the biggest week of Shador Sanders life.
08:40And I know that's a tad dramatic.
08:42I recognize that me saying this might be getting a little off field here, but this is the biggest
08:49week of Shador Sanders professional life because he has to absolutely kill it this week.
08:56Not only in practice and the joint practice with the Bills, but then in the preseason game,
09:01he just absolutely has to light it up.
09:04All right.
09:05And again, that's from his Sunday show with Nick Padone.
09:09I do like the self-awareness there from Daryl.
09:11Yeah, that was nice.
09:12Yeah.
09:12Now that might be a little dramatic.
09:14I would say a lot more than a little dramatic.
09:17I don't think he's going to be given the opportunity to make this a big week.
09:20He's splitting ones with Deshaun on Thursday, and then he's going out there against a bunch
09:28of backups and with a bunch of backups on Saturday.
09:31Like, how can he knock it out of the park with such limited opportunities?
09:35And I'm not complaining.
09:36Again, Todd can make his decision.
09:38I trust in Todd.
09:40It better damn sure work.
09:41But let's not act like this is like a real quarterback battle anymore.
09:45It's clear that the Browns had a way they wanted this to go.
09:48It's vaguely going that way, and they're going to go ahead and rubber stamp that bleed.
09:52The die has been cast.
09:53Yeah.
09:54What is Shador supposed to do?
09:55You can go out and look awesome.
09:56There's been parts of this training camp I thought he's looked that way.
09:59If the die's been cast, there's nothing left to be said here.
10:02Yeah.
10:02And that's all right.
10:03You go out there, take the experience.
10:05Go out there on Thursday.
10:06Get the joint practice experience.
10:07Go out there in the preseason game.
10:08Do awesome.
10:09Do great.
10:09Learn from some of this stuff, and then he just now has to bide his time until Deshaun
10:13either fails on the field or gets injured, and he'll have a chance to play at that point,
10:16and then he's got to shine from there.
10:17He will get a chance to play at some point this upcoming season.
10:20Yeah, I think that's...
10:21Okay, so I clearly wanted a more legitimate quarterback battle.
10:25It is clearly not going the way that I wanted it to, because I also wanted Shador to start.
10:30But I do think there's a part of me that's like, because...
10:34And you've made this point for about six months now.
10:37Because there's just no way that we can trust Deshaun to stay healthy.
10:42The one part that actually has me 100% cheesed off, that really is annoying, is just a competent
10:49organization filled with a lot of really smart people thinking to themselves, we're going
10:53to play two quarterbacks this year.
10:55We know it's going to happen, and we still think we're going to have success.
10:58So much of what they've done has been in the face of, we want to be competitive.
11:03And they've got the recipe right there.
11:05The one part of the recipe that smells a bit like rat farts is, hey, we're going to play
11:11two quarterbacks this year.
11:12That really is the thing that could take you from a seven or eight win team to a four or
11:17five win team.
11:18And they just, they've normalized this to such a degree, and everyone acts like it's common
11:22sense.
11:23That would be the thing that probably annoys me most about how this thing is going and how
11:27I think it's going to go.
11:28And the dumbest part about all this is it feels like that's a real reason why Deshaun has the
11:32advantage in this, is that people have the expectation that he's not going to play all
11:3517.
11:36And so you'll get a chance to play both if you start Deshaun.
11:39And I just think that's just an awful and loser way of looking at this whole thing.
11:43Dog pound forever saying, nobody wants Watson to be the starter, but to sit and make excuses
11:47as to why is just absurd.
11:49Munkin thinks Watson gives him a better chance to win, and that's about it.
11:54Okay.
11:55Then Munkin doesn't know what he's looking at.
11:58So if it is true that there aren't other things going on here, right?
12:03Because let's be honest with you, Deshaun was awful for half of camp.
12:07The rest of camp, he's looked serviceable.
12:09And that is a big step in the right direction.
12:11Sure.
12:12Yay, serviceable.
12:13Yeah.
12:13He didn't look excellent on Saturday.
12:15No, he didn't.
12:16He looked serviceable.
12:17And so let's stop acting like there's this gigantic gap between Watson and Sanders.
12:22And listen, if there are things we don't know about, Awishador, that are just non-negotiables,
12:27okay, but I can't guess about something that I don't know that they're not being forthcoming about.
12:32The tie would never go to the 10-year veteran that is on his final year of a contract.
12:36It just would never go to him over a second-year pro that you still have under contract.
12:40That's not how the NFL would realistically or logically work, but it seems like that's what's happening here.
