00:04Tunapuna on Monday. Following the wounding of the officer while on duty, Minister Alexander,
00:10who was a former senior superintendent, and the commissioner visited the area and issued a
00:15deadline for the perpetrators to surrender to police. Less than 24 hours later, two men walked
00:21into the Tunapuna police station and provided information about the whereabouts of the gun
00:26and the perpetrators involved. Alexander hailed Guevara's leadership and issued a warning to
00:32all gun-toting criminals that boots are on the ground at the highest level and immediate action
00:38will be taken. Alexander said persons involved were told that they ought to surrender by noon today.
00:44The police commissioner was direct and made it clear that the persons involved must be handed over
00:48and the firearm used. Heeded the warning. Two men walked into the station and assisted the police
00:54as to where the A15 was located. The minister said he liaised with Health Minister Dr. Lakram Bodo
01:00to ensure the injured officer received immediate treatment, which resulted in the officer undergoing
01:06surgery. And this is what we were told of the incident. Investigators told TV6 News that officers
01:15from the Northern Division were on mobile patrol along Mango and Farley streets around 8 p.m.
01:20where they responded to a report of assault. Sosa say that while speaking to the victim involved in
01:26the assault, a man armed with a high-powered rifle opened fire on the police vehicle. The police
01:32officer was shot in the leg. The officer's leg was broken and he also sustained other gunshot injuries.
01:39The civilian was also shot during the incident. The injured officer and the civilian were rushed to the
01:43Mount Home Hospital for treatment. When the gunfire erupted, another officer on patrol opened fire on the
01:49suspect who fled.
