00:00As the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, our mission is to provide an environment of public safety and security by employing planned and coordinated security strategies through the Carnival period 2024.
00:18Our division has been augmented by support from our sister island, Trinidad, both by members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and by members of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force.
00:30Mr. Eli spoke of the main objective going forward.
00:34Our main objectives are to minimize any opportunity to commit crime and destructive behavior, to provide high visibility in and around Carnival events, inclusive of residential areas, business spaces and our coastlines, to provide enhanced public safety and to preserve public order.
00:59The senior superintendent said security forces have been briefed and would be operating on land, sea and in the air.
01:29So we have seen a total reduction in the gun related murders, total reduction in the violent crimes and we are looking at even developing our own strategies to ensure that not just Carnival is safe but that Tobago and Abul continues.
01:56Mr. Eli said since his administration has been instituted, there has been a reduction in serious crimes in Tobago.
02:11I want to add to Ms. Williams that within the past few weeks we have had several persons arrested for narcotics. We have had a major narcotic crime, one of the biggest narcotic crimes of the year.
02:26That's 30 kilograms of marijuana. That person was arrested and charged after very diligent inquiries. We have had several persons arrested for smaller quantities of marijuana and we have retrieved several firearms off the streets in Tobago.
02:50How many you can tell us? How many?
02:53We have retrieved four firearms.
