00:00President of the Police Social and Welfare Association Acting ASP Gideon Dixon said he agrees with a statement made by the Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley on Independence Day that the judiciary should provide swift responses to the public when charging persons for criminal offences.
00:17Mr. Dixon said the association believes more could have been done from the realms of the judiciary.
00:24Particularly when we look at data which suggests that we have a revolving door situation and it is a few persons in our society that is causing this mayhem, this chaos, this negative impact on the country and we have to find ways and means either to protect the law abiding which is 1.3 plus million persons from this group of persons.
00:51Dixon said the majority of citizens are concerned about crime. He added that our society has degenerated over the last decade and what we are seeing now is the outcome of what could have been avoided.
01:04If it is the judiciary is not in connection or not connected to the public, it simply means this entire funnel that we call the criminal justice system where the public is the wider body doing the engagement, doing the analysis, doing the validation,
01:23and they are feeling that there is a disconnect with judgements or rulings done by the court in relation to criminal responsibility, then the entire system could become compromised.
