Beer on Ganga Banks Sparks Confrontation: Tourist Apologises After Locals Intervene in Rishikesh

An incident of unruly behaviour by a tourist has come to light from the Laxman Jhula area of Rishikesh, where a man was seen consuming beer on the banks of the Ganges, triggering protests from local youth.

According to reports, locals objected to the act, stating that the Ganges is a sacred river and such behaviour is disrespectful. One of the youths, identified as Ankit Gupta, confronted the tourist and urged him to maintain the sanctity of the place.

In a surprising response, the tourist claimed he was unaware that he was near the Ganges, drawing disbelief from the locals, who pointed out that the river was clearly visible.

The situation, however, did not escalate. The youths handled the matter calmly, took the empty beer can from the tourist, disposed of it responsibly, and ensured he left the area without further trouble.

The tourist later admitted his mistake and apologised before quietly leaving the spot. Locals have appreciated the measured response, saying it sends a strong message about respecting religious and cultural sentiments at such sites.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, highlighting both the misconduct and the responsible handling of the situation by local residents.
