00:00And signing off soon, Stephen Colbert says his late show will be ending next year.
00:04It's a shocking step that CBS calls a financial decision,
00:07but critics wonder if there's more behind the move.
00:10And a few seconds, the most watched show in late night is being canceled.
00:15CBS pulling the plug on the late show with Stephen Colbert,
00:18and it's more than just the end of the line for Colbert.
00:21It's the end of an era for television.
00:23Colbert broke the news to his audience.
00:25The timing here is noteworthy, just weeks after CBS's parent company, Paramount,
00:31settled a $16 million lawsuit with President Trump.
00:35CNN's Hadass Gold has details on this.
00:37And the pressing question here, Hadass, is this about politics, or is this a business decision?
00:45And, Brianna, it could be a combination or other matters happening at Paramount.
00:49At the same time, though, Stephen Colbert's show is the highest-rated late-night show on broadcast television.
00:54He beats out his competitors, Jimmy Fatt, at the end of May.
00:58And then, of course, what's happening politically.
01:00Potentially some maybe more questions raised by Capitol Hill as a result of this.
01:04Brianna.
01:04Yeah, it's going to be a really interesting late night at CBS until May.
01:08I think we know that much.
01:10Thank you so much, Hadass Gold.
01:11Really appreciate the reporting.
01:12President Trump trying to appease Americans, demanding more information about Jeffrey Epstein.
01:18The DOJ could ask a court to release unsealed grand jury testimony in the case.
01:23But will that even put the controversy to rest?
01:26Or could it only add to the questions about the case?
01:30And slipping support.
01:31We are keeping an eye on the White House as President Trump is digging in today on his denial of
01:36a damning Wall Street Journal report involving accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
01:41The Journal is reporting some details about a letter bearing Trump's name that was sent to Epstein in 2003 for
01:48Epstein's 50th birthday, part of a compilation in a book.
01:52And again, the president says that this isn't true.
01:55He says he'll be suing the newspaper and its owner, Rupert Murdoch.
01:59Overnight, the president also said he asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to, quote,
02:03produce any and all pertinent grand jury testimony on Epstein's case.
02:06The DOJ officials there are saying they'll ask a judge about this today.
02:11We have CNN Chief Media Affairs, Chief Media Analyst Brian Stelter and CNN Chief Legal Affairs Correspondent Paula Reid with
02:18us.
02:19First off, Paula, just walk us through what the DOJ is saying that they're going to request.
02:24Breaking news out of Los Angeles where officials say at least three people died as a result of an explosion
02:29at an L.A. County Sheriff's Department training facility.
02:33Analyst John Miller is with us now.
02:35John, are you getting any insights into what happened here?
02:39Well, we're starting to piece it together.
02:41And, of course, the safe procedure.
02:44What does that mean?
02:45That means they either countercharge it and blow it up in an open area where they can do that,
02:52or they perform a more intricate procedure where they take it apart and render it safe from detonating.
03:00Somewhere in the movement of that device this morning, very early.
03:04We'll continue to track it.
03:05John, thank you so much for all of that information.
03:07We appreciate it.
03:08Still to come, day four of testimony resumed in the murder trial of a Colorado dentist accused of poisoning his
03:14wife by placing lethal chemicals in her protein shakes.
03:18James Craig has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including first-degree murder and solicitation to commit first-degree murder.
03:25Yesterday, jurors heard from the lead detective in the case, whom Craig allegedly tried to have killed.
03:30They also heard from his two daughters, one of whom testified that her father asked her and wrote in a
03:35letter step-by-step instructions on how to create a deepfake video of her mom asking for chemicals.
03:43These were the same chemicals that prosecutors say ultimately caused Angela Craig's death.
03:48CNN Law...
03:51This letter that James Craig sent to his daughter, according to her own testimony, left her feeling confused.
03:58The prosecution is trying to use as much evidence as they can to support this idea that James Craig had
04:03masterminded a plot to make it look like Angela Craig took her own life,
04:07when, in fact, she was a happy, healthy, thriving mother of six.
04:13In addition...
04:13Very interesting.
04:14Whitney Wild live for us on this story.
04:17Thank you very much.
04:18Omar?
04:18President Trump and congressional Republicans celebrating another legislative win after another late night in the Capitol.
04:25Early this morning, the House narrowly passed the doge spending cuts package to eliminate roughly $9 billion in government spending,
04:31and it now heads to the president for his signature.
04:34These cuts include...
04:35It has been two weeks since catastrophic floods ripped through Central Texas,
04:40and the tragic story of what happened at Camp Mystic continues to haunt the region and the families who lost
04:46loved ones there.
04:48CNN's Pamela Brown spoke with one mother whose 8-year-old daughter died in the flooding while attending camp.
