00:00your actual thoughts on the bombshell that Mary Kay had today that Deshaun has the inside track
00:04and I I cannot make a bigger deal enough out of this because first off Mary Kay is very very
00:10well
00:10connected as we know but it just seems like after three days of installs the Browns were like okay
00:15Deshaun's our guy and it just I hate that for Shador I hate that for the idea of a competition
00:20with quarterbacks there's a lot I just dislike about it well I would say this uh the idea that
00:25I have said to people the idea of fair doesn't matter and that's the one thing I will tell
00:29everybody it might not be fair but it doesn't matter and one of the things that you hear about
00:34um Deshaun is we know the story we know that book Munkin doesn't Munkin doesn't care about
00:40that's the part I was worried about and my my fear the entire time coach was the idea that Munkin
00:44doesn't know that book he doesn't know that story and he doesn't know that part of Deshaun Watson's
00:49story is that he always looks awesome in practice like that's the deal with Deshaun I I've fallen
00:54victim to it myself I'll never forget I told the story earlier today I've told it a million times
00:58right the idea that watching Deshaun versus Jacoby Brissett the first year that Deshaun got here
01:02he made Jacoby Brissett look like a high school player that's like the difference like it was
01:06just so obvious like oh my gosh you see the throws that he's making you see everyone always talks about
01:11zip on the ball you see the zip on the ball that he has like he's designed to look awesome
01:15in these
01:16settings the idea for myself was that he wouldn't Munkin was going to fall for the trap because that's
01:22obvious everyone falls for the trap the first time you see it with Deshaun it was supposed to be
01:25Andrew Barry and Jimmy Haslam saying hey not so fast my friend at the what he does in the practice
01:31field can't be everything because he's a practice field all-american what he does in the games need
01:36to tell the story and I'm worried that Munkin just fell in love after three practices well my my
01:40question would be as a coach coming in how else do you how else do you look at it you
01:44go oh well I've
01:45seen what it is I don't know what this guy can do though right so I have to judge it
01:48more on
01:48practice because whatever Shador has done it's not much and whether it's good or bad it's just
01:52not much and as a coach coming in if the idea is to win and Shador is not as good
01:58as Watson right now
01:59then he doesn't play and you would hope the idea that Munkin has his imprint on this and Munkin
02:04now if he beats him out if he's better and he gets injured I worry more about injury than play
02:09because he looked at you know everybody is hot and bothered with me Deshaun Watson looks in great
02:15shape he looked and there's no um you know you said you were there you thought he looked really
02:19good and this I'm not taking the bait all those kind of things my thing as a coach is that
02:22no this
02:23is kind of the thing all those things that happened in the past they just don't matter
02:26and if Munkin is they have to matter somewhat coach they don't why do they if you three years
02:30of not finishing a season but three years of not even playing good football on top of it has
02:34correct but no it doesn't because it doesn't because this is a new staff this is a new guy coming
02:38in saying no that's the problem this is why I get so angry I'm gonna play the best guy this
02:41is why I get so angry
02:42at this being a new staff is that they're willing to give him all sorts of fresh opportunities and
02:46fresh this and fresh that I watched it for three years every Browns fan you're talking to Shador's
02:50getting the same thing Shador doesn't have three years of evidence of tape of him underperforming
02:55not being good and also being injured well and that's that is part of the equation right he's got
03:00to try to find a way to beat him out I don't know it sounded like today I mean it
03:03sounds like the
03:04door is more closed than it is open for the idea that Shador can beat him out see the way
03:08I look at it
03:08is that Munkin is stressing winning you know the idea of waiting for the 27 quarterback or
03:13uh they're gonna win Munkin's thinking about winning right now and if Watson's the best guy right now
03:18he's playing and once again I the three years they matter to us they don't matter to Munkin and if
03:24Munkin has his say if he has more pool that he I'm sure he better have gone into that he's
03:30gonna
03:30he's gonna fall for a practice field all-american but I don't think it's not a practice field all-american
03:33you have to judge it on what you see but I know but I told you I've seen it for
03:36three I've seen it for
03:37three different camps with Deshaun where he looks awesome in practice and then the game gets going
03:41and he sucks and he absolutely stinks up the joint I know this is part of the hard equation too
03:47when
03:47it comes to Shador in this there's a reason why Shador was drafted the way the place that he was
03:51drafted and there's a reason why it's a lot with Shador that in practice and I thought last year's
03:54practice I thought he showed some nice things but that is not a practice field all-american that is
03:58the equivalent of a gamer that is a guy that when the lights go on that's where you get the
04:02very best
04:02version of Shador we constantly see it with him and so it's a it's almost like it's a flip
04:06flop scenario where uh you got one guy that maybe isn't the greatest at practice and and kind of
04:12expressing everything but when the game happens it clicks and it goes and the other version of that
04:17is somebody that because of the athletic ability and everything associated with Deshaun Watson the arm
04:21that he's got is always going to shine in the practice field but when the lights go on and the
04:25game gets going he turns in a mush it's not it's not it's it's just there's no other way to
04:30describe it
04:30and so Munkin's going to fall for the same thing that we saw Stefanski fall for for three straight
04:36seasons he's gonna it's gonna happen but I don't think I don't worry that I don't think he's
04:39falling for it here's what's gonna happen so if he goes out he's terrible in three practices though
04:44he was already convinced well there's so much more that goes into it three practice you're talking
04:47meetings installs correct so all those insults without your without your number one wide receiver
04:52and Jerry Judy but all the installs those are done in meetings as well so you go into a meeting
04:56what does he know we don't know any of that you know we don't know we don't know how much
05:00he
05:00knows how much he doesn't know either of them this is that's why I would assume Deshaun has the lead
05:04because when he goes into a meeting he's seen all these things a lot more than Shador has not that
05:09Shador can't get it because I always thought one of the things that Shador got didn't get credit for
05:13was ability to read defenses he didn't have an offensive line I think he if he's so if Watson wins
05:18and he goes into the game he's terrible and Munkin's truly I want to play the best guy then Shador
05:23gets his chance and I will say this to Shador if you're not going to be a gamer in the
05:27NFL you don't
05:27play as a gamer you play how you practice so he's going to have to teach himself how to be
05:32a gamer
05:32in practice and that's something I agree with that so that's something he has to learn because
05:36when you're when you're as good as Shador Sanders if I was trying to rig the game in favor of
05:40Shador
05:40I would have told him you need to you worry less about what's happening in the game and worry how
05:45to get past the test well the test is practices right now correct which is not but the problem
05:49he's going to have in that is he's not going to think that way because he's thinking to himself
05:51well the games is what everyone judges is on and the games is this and the games is that
05:55but it's almost like well uh you know I always tell this to young broadcasters like very very young
06:00broadcasters it's not the advice that anybody ever actually gives you in school but it's true
06:04if you want to be like a play-by-play guy at 20 22 23 years old how you do
06:09it you sound like the guys
06:10that are already on tv and if that means you got to sound a little bit like somebody that is
06:13just
06:13already on tv in order to get there then you do whatever you need to do but you're gonna get
06:17hired
06:17off the idea that it sounds like when somebody turns the television the game sounds like it's
06:21supposed to right um they always don't tell you that because they want you to be your own self they
06:25want you to be your own whatever whatever copy people do whatever you got to do absolutely make it sound
06:29right you know and like and like in in this instance here like that's the part that chador isn't
06:34entirely getting and that's where he's kind of falling short is that in the practices it's not
06:38the same as what he's doing in the games he's got to find a way to flip that though and
06:41get a get a
06:42get a a place and a spot where they'll say we'll give you the games we'll give you the opportunities
06:48because of what we see in practice because he's not going to be able to beat out to sean if
06:51you're just
06:51going off practice well and here's the thing though if you're going into practice if i'm a coach and i
06:59go
06:59that's wrong by him not to play deshaun watson the same thing if should if chador is better
07:03well i don't know about a lot better but he's going to look better yes but if he's if he
07:06looks
07:07better regardless if it's a little bit or a lot i'll say that but you can't fall for the same
07:11mistake you're not falling for anything you go beat him out we did it for three straight years
07:14though at some point i but now munkin but munkin's going to say i could i'm going to say
07:19munkin's going to make him and i get contractually coach i get contractually why he had to be there
07:22till march of 2027 but this is always the danger though if munkin wants to win he's better he plays
07:27no but this is always the danger of bringing deshaun in there's no there's no sabotage it's
07:31not gonna end well but it's not gonna end well is the point i know i what do you mean
07:34how do we
07:34know i you don't have to be miss cleo to figure out what's gonna happen with deshaun watson they're
07:37all it's not all new it's the fifth season deshaun's been in a browns uniform and i've gotten diddly
07:43squat out of him i've gotten nothing i've got a bumpkiss to show for deshaun watson it doesn't matter
07:47going into this year it has to matter your past has to matter in some point the same way that
07:52everyone's going back to the idea what he did six years ago if you got nothing go beat him out
07:55in practice
07:55then you got to beat him out in practice but this is the hard part of this he's not he's
07:59not gonna
08:00be able to he's a practice you know what i know you're a gamer you get out there and play
08:04but he's
08:04not gonna be able to play show where you're going in the better and what you're doing and go sean
08:08is
08:08the most experienced deshaun is going to look better in practice then i gotta figure out a way this is
08:11the stop sign i had to put up for them because it's people like you that are coaches and have
08:15been
08:15around this for so long you guys don't care about what happened three years ago you don't care
08:19about what we've seen in the actual games you guys only care about what he looks like right now in
08:23this moment that isn't going to translate because it's translated but i'm going to win week one if
08:28he gives me the best chance because right now he gives me the best chance then he plays because it
08:33doesn't matter what happened last year the year before the best chance i do think you have to
08:36account for the idea of why did those three seasons end why did they end poorly so if he doesn't
08:40play
08:40as well as the injuries which you have to account for and again like if you're talking about uh winning
08:45and giving yourself the best chance deshaun hasn't been healthy in four years like that has to
08:50account into the equation not for this year even if he looks better as far as practices are concerned
08:54for this year not with not with a guy who's 60 trying to win games i think he's i think
08:59now if
09:00you go now if you're three games in and he's playing practicing great and terrible then you make the
09:05switch because that means listen i know you practice well but now we're going to try this guy
09:09because you're playing poorly in the games munkin's thinking as a head coach who's been a coordinator
09:13his whole life if i get this guy practicing well in practice practicing at a high level he'll carry that
09:18over
09:19to the game because this is the system we're in we're in a system this system actually helps deshaun
09:24a ton because it's all based on players making doing what they do best i i like i said i
09:29and i know
09:30you're right is why i'm so angry at you is because i know how guys like munkin think coaches like
09:35that
09:35believe uh stefanski was the problem it wasn't it wasn't anything to do with deshaun uh i can fix him
09:41because i know more than kevin stefanski and stefanski was the reason why and this is the only thing
09:45that matters i'm so smart i'm so intelligent i know football i can fix just about anybody and
09:50if deshaun is the strongest arm then deshaun's going to get the opportunity i just got way too
09:55much experience on my side of things when it comes to deshaun to ever think it's going to actually
09:58work and you're right and i don't think we're i don't think coaches are smart i think we're dumb
10:02enough to play the guy who practices best and if it's your door is a guy goes oh you know
10:07i'm a
10:07gamer then you're not then you got to go you have he's got to change his mo he's got to
10:11go how does
10:12how does should or show him they can be the better uh practice quarterback how does he show him well
10:15once again it's a lot more than it's a lot more than what you do on the field first of
10:19all it's
10:19maximizing reps what i thought which i thought should or did a great job of last year you were
10:23complimentary of very even in the last practice that we saw yeah and and he no he was and i
10:28don't
10:28think my point being is that i you know obviously you know i like dylan too but should or made
10:32more
10:32impact so i thought he did really good things but if he's having problems in practice what for whatever
10:37reason then he's got to figure out what that is because in the games he does make plays
10:41but as a coach we're all we're and once again you said we're too smart it's almost no we're too
10:46dumb we're only going to go on what we see and what we see it especially now if there was
10:50there's
10:51no tread from monk and you you act like this was like a bunch of uh practices that we've gone
10:55through
10:56and this is like i can i can accept this if three months from now it's like he's just the
10:59best
11:00practicing quarterback work they put in though they with meetings and film and study and getting up on
11:05the board and all that stuff we had three practice days of installs but i'm saying all there they've
11:09been going at it for weeks and weeks why did should or get the first team reps in the very
11:13first practice you guys saw i thought they were switching i really didn't think of it as first
11:17team he got he got the very first opportunity it was highlighted by everyone that was there but i
11:21look at it differently because they had different tight ends with different o-line groups i didn't
11:24really see it as one that day i thought saw it as both guys were running with ones that's how
11:28i saw
11:28it felt like to me and again if he if he i mean i'll see to you if you thought
11:32the interpretation
11:33was different and that was actually to sean getting the first team reps uh but it seemed like to me
11:37they made this decision or they went through this awfully quickly and being like all right
11:41i think everybody's saying it's a three day and that's and that's well that's that's what i'm
11:44saying because that that's the part that makes me feel like it's the game was rigged that's the part
11:47that makes me feel like they didn't even give should or a real chance in this and it was just
11:50they
11:51decided it was always going to be to sean and they were just waiting to get to that out there
11:54are no
11:55sabotagers but then you they watched to sean and they watched him be out in the football field and
11:59thought okay all right uh he's not broke and so here we are he's not a broken toy he's not
12:05injured he can
12:05move his feet and so here we are and i but i do think there are i'm not going to
12:09call it sabotage
12:10that seems one thing or another but there are definitely agendas at play and there are definitely
12:13reasons for why they would want to put to sean watson out there but monk's got to win monk's got
12:17to win right now yeah but monk and right now is as far as i'm concerned monk is the same
12:20puppet that
12:21kevin stefanski was until he shows me otherwise okay he's still taking orders from andrew berry and
12:25from jimmy haslam and andrew berry and jimmy haslam have way more invested interest in making sure that
12:30deshaun watson's a good quarterback and redeeming the worst trade in nfl history than it is if
12:34shador sanders looks like a good well if he's a puppet then when if you go to the game and
12:37he
12:38is until he shows me otherwise right now he would play because there's the fancy to fan savanski was
12:42a puppet to me well and i agree with that but if monk and monk and hopefully monk and went
12:45into his
12:46thing and there's some non-negotiables and if he goes in and said i'm playing the best guy he's 59
12:49years old never been a head coach he doesn't get non-negotiables well and then you move on he's got
12:53tons of non-negotiables left the moment you were passed up for grant udinski and nate shielhouse well
12:57then you're then you're a puppet because if watson's better well then watson's better then you don't play him you
13:03are a puppet because you're playing the guy who you if if sanders is better and you don't play him
13:09that's you're a puppet you play the best guy with the best guy doesn't matter about all this thing
13:13who plays better in practice that's the guy who plays that's what monk and is thinking oh you keep
13:19mentioning like the new eyes the fresh eyes and this is what monk and is going to be able to
13:22he can't
13:23assess on anything from years ago with deshaun he's got only focus in the present and when you're
13:27describing that the thing i just keep thinking of is like oh this this is why they had to get
13:32rid of
13:32stefanski uh because even though i thought stefanski was a puppet stefanski there's just no
13:36way he was going to be able to be like oh yeah let's go to deshaun and make this try
13:39to work let's
13:40let's make let's make deshaun what failed three times previously all of a sudden work because he
13:44knows he's like me he's like you we've been to these practices we've watched these games we've done
13:50this with deshaun i know he's gonna suck i don't have to even think about it i can't find the
13:55roadmap to
13:55how either even if he does get on the field how he stays healthy for an entire season and how
14:00it
14:00doesn't end in disaster i know that unequivocally and so like i think stefanski knows that too
14:06you get munkin in here munkin doesn't know that and so uh you get your fresh start you get your
14:10fresh wish and uh we are off to the races coach well i don't think i mean i the injury
14:16part i'm
14:16100 on board for but to say that unequivocally he's gonna stink i you know obviously the same
14:22issues that happen you know he's had injuries that's a real thing he's got some better players
14:27around him he's got a pretty good run game now the offensive line should be better these are all
14:31things that should help him and once again it comes down to not fresh eyes and uh you know he's
14:36pulling
14:37the wool over you know munkin munkin's just gonna come he had nick chubb and amari cooper like he had
14:42he had really good players in 2022 when he first got here oh no there's no one of the better
14:45offensive
14:45lines in the game again nick chubb amari cooper now i'm none of those he had talent he didn't do
14:50anything with it i'm with i'm with you on all those things the point being that starting this when
14:55the three days and the install and then the probably the 30 to 80 hours of meetings they
15:00had going into this we don't know any of that and so the idea that he's ahead that tells me
15:06munkin's
15:06doing the right thing because right now he should be ahead because right now when they're going over
15:10stuff i bet you shador is going oh okay i get that as watson's going this is what i would
15:15do just
15:16because of experience now as a new head coach it's simple it's simple watson gives me a better chance
15:20right now if he doesn't then shador goes in the idea that it unequivocally we know what's going
15:26to happen this fall with john watson i disagree i think there's a chance he could be fairly successful
15:31zero chance to me and that's and that's 0.0 well i'm trying to find the roadmap where it works
15:37i'm legitimately trying to find the roadmap where it works i can't find it the roadmap is he's got an
15:41offense that will allow him to get that allows players to make plays instead of a system so he's not
15:46going to hold on to the ball as long he's going to do munkin's going to maximize munkin's also going
15:50to maximize shador sanders so those things that happen in practice those are real things so when
15:55now this summer when they get you know the camp is when you win your job camp is when you
16:00make the
16:00so shador if there's a wide gap or a small gap he's got to close it even more because he
16:05will get a ton
16:05of reps and you know ones and twos get a ton of reps and he's going to be he's going
16:09to be two he might
16:10be one but that's what he's got to figure out he's got to go out uh once again though i
16:14think the
16:14ultimate goal is for munkin is who's ever best at that point in time regardless of hearsay or what
16:19he what happened before i'm playing watson if he's the best yeah i think my big thing i just i
16:23wish
16:23coach they would have done this like i don't know two months from now on that june 11th deadline that
16:27he was talking about you know i just it just doesn't feel like a it doesn't feel like a real
16:31competition if we already have these leaked reports right now but if i'm if i doesn't feel as open
16:35minded as maybe i wanted them to be with the idea of like is it your door is it to
16:38sean this feels
16:39very much like they were always rooting for it to be to sean well i you would hope there's no
16:43one
16:43rooting and i don't think uh for me when you say agendas and people talk about that stuff real
16:48coaches don't care about any of that stuff ever no no but owners do but real coaches do when you
16:53have a very involved owner here so and if you think that and that part that's always part of
16:57the equation here with the browns what the owner what the owner steps in and wants and does think
17:01about what happened last year coach what did the owner tell you was going to happen he told you both
17:04rookies were going to play last year did both rookies play last year like this is this is how this
17:08works
17:08here with cleveland browns football it's a reason why people like mike florio come on these airwaves and say you
17:12guys are never going to win because you have a too involved owner so i get i and i get
17:16it you're a
17:16coach and i love and respect you and you know that but like like the coaching side of it gets
17:20taken out
17:21that's why the browns have failed for as long as they have is because you can do all these wonderful
17:25things as a coach and the owner gets what he wants in this city has them gets what he wants
17:29consistently
17:30and constantly and so like if has them ultimately wanted it to be to sean then guess who's going to
17:36end up
17:36being the quarterback it's going to be to sean like these these agendas whatever you want to call
17:39them do exist here well and that's that's you know obviously i'm not thinking like that if they are
17:44then that's a problem then they'll never win until that changes they'll never win at a high level what
17:48people have been saying for 10 years about this team so that alignment that's the alignment thing
17:52right so i'm going with the assumption right because uh that's how i how i work and you know i
17:56work in
17:57that positive light is i'm assuming when munkin took this job you go in what happens when you assume
18:02coach yes when you go in so i i think as a head coach we all go in when we
18:06apply for new jobs
18:07you have non-negotiables and for munkin i would hope the non-negotiables will be i'm going to
18:12play my guys i think he was 59 years old and wanted to be a head coach and that's possible
18:15his non-negotiables were not they didn't exist and we actually i will find out we just got a i
18:20got a
18:21i got a graphic mac uh mac just put it up on the on the youtube screen of all the
18:25non-negotiables
18:26that todd munkin had we just roll that really quickly get your youtube up oh oh it doesn't exist
18:30because there is no there's no non-negotiables well i'm just telling you it's nothing to play
18:33i'm just telling you i'm i would hope uh that they've learned and maybe they haven't but once
18:39again i'm gonna i'm gonna i'm not i'm not losing a game before i play it i'm going to see
18:43how this
18:44how this works out when we go when i go out to practice now once again they're not basing it
18:48off
18:48three practices they're basing it on the off-season program they're basing it on experience in different
18:53offenses they're basing it on what they know on the on the grease board they're basing it on when
18:57they're watching film there's all those things that deshaun watson is going to be better than
19:02shador right now doesn't mean he'll be better all the time there's going to be a learning curve
19:06there and hopefully they're helping each other that's the key but if i'm trying to win week one
19:11and watson's the best quarterback and shador plays or vice versa that's wrong and if the owner's making
19:18that decision you'll never win it doesn't matter it's like in high school if the if the coaches
19:24aren't making the football decisions you're not going to win at a high level yeah right now the we
19:28have the equivalent of like an ad for instance in high school coming in and being the one that makes
19:32the
19:32decisions yeah that's going to be that's going to be a problem i know it's why everyone for years
19:35have said we have a problem but then as a coach you gotta you and if you're that big of
19:40a puppet you
19:40can't you can't coach there you can't work there that's that i mean i don't know yeah what do you
19:44think you you think munkin i don't know i think munkin wanted to be a head coach you think he's
19:49i
19:49think i don't blame him for it i would i would have signed up for it too if i were
19:52him i you know
19:53i would have i mean if my 59 years old i've never been a head coach i want to be
19:56a head coach
19:57i look at it differently i would have signed up for it i would have i look at it differently
20:00i think
20:00at 59 years old i'm going in with these things and i'm saying it because who cares i mean i
20:04got
20:04all the money i need i got everything i need if i'm a true football coach i want to have
20:07some control
20:08of what i'm doing
20:08you
