00:00You ever ask this question, why does life still feel empty when you're doing everything right?
00:09You know, you can do a lot right and still feel like something is missing.
00:14You can give the people around you everything anybody else in the world would want, and they can renounce you.
00:22And this is one of the strangest parts of life.
00:26You can be responsible, you can work hard, you can stay out of obvious trouble, you can pay your bills,
00:34handle your business, answer your messages, keep your word, and keep moving forward.
00:41And from the outside, it'll look like you're doing what you're supposed to do.
00:47People will respect you for it.
00:49Well, some people will.
00:51Well, they may think you're doing well, yet inside, there is this quiet emptiness that you cannot fully explain.
01:01It's not always loud, and it's not always dramatic.
01:06Sometimes it just feels like you're going through the motions in a life that looks fine, maybe even better than
01:14fine.
01:14Maybe it's the kind of life anybody would think if they had, they would have won the lottery.
01:23But to the person living that life, it doesn't feel full.
01:29And that kind of emptiness messes with people because it does not make sense at first.
01:36You know, you thought doing better would feel better.
01:39You thought if you had the awesome car, the big old house, the 20-acre city park in front of
01:46your house, you thought, you know what, maybe life would feel better.
01:54You thought if you became more disciplined, more stable, more productive, more focused, more mature, then something inside you would
02:04finally settle down.
02:07You thought getting your life together would make your heart feel alive again.
02:13You know, you thought maybe, maybe if you gave your family the life that you didn't grow up with, and
02:25that you never thought you'd have the ability to build, they would be a little more attentive, a little more
02:33loving.
02:34You thought getting your life together would make your heart feel alive again.
02:39You thought getting your life together would make your heart feel alive again.
02:48But instead, maybe you got more organized while still feeling tired.
02:55Maybe you got more responsible while still feeling empty.
02:59Maybe you built a life that looks decent on the outside, but inside you still feel dry.
03:09Numb, restless, or disconnected.
03:14And now, you do not even know how to explain that to other people because, to them, you've got the
03:23ultimate life.
03:25And that can make a person feel guilty.
03:28You start thinking, what the hell is wrong with me?
03:32Why am I not more grateful?
03:35Why are the people around me not more grateful?
03:38Why can't they see how amazing this all is?
03:43And why am I not more excited?
03:46Why do I still feel this emptiness when other people would love to have what I have?
03:53So, you push harder.
03:55You try to clean up a little more.
03:58You try to get more focused and you try to improve in other areas of your life, thinking, that will
04:06fix it.
04:07You tell yourself, maybe you just need more momentum.
04:11Maybe you just need more structure.
04:15Maybe you need one more win.
04:18But you know what?
04:20All you're doing is winning.
04:23And the problem is, if the emptiness is deeper than your routine, then no routine is going to fully fix
04:31it.
04:32If the emptiness is deeper than your schedule, a better schedule cannot become the cure for your soul.
04:40So, my name is Douglas Vandergraaf, and I struggle, same as you.
04:46And a lot of people are living in this place right now.
04:51And they're not wrecking their lives.
04:54They're not in some obvious collapse.
04:56They're not even doing badly by normal standards.
05:01They're just tired in a deeper way.
05:05They're trying to be good people.
05:07They're trying to stay steady.
05:09They're trying to build something that lasts.
05:13Yet, underneath all of this effort, there is still an ache that keeps coming back.
05:20It shows up when the room gets quiet.
05:23It shows up after the work is done.
05:26It shows up when you finally sit still and realize that being busy kept you distracted.
05:34But it did not make you whole.
05:40You know, the truth is, some emptiness comes from building life on things that were never meant to carry the
05:47weight of your soul.
05:49Success? Trust me, it cannot do that.
05:53Discipline? Got plenty of that.
05:55And it cannot do that.
05:58Stability?
06:00I'm standing on a rock.
06:02And it has not done that.
06:04Being liked cannot do that.
06:07Being productive cannot do that.
06:09Even being a decent person cannot do that.
06:14Those things may matter in their place.
06:16They may help your life.
06:19They may bring order where there is chaos.
06:22But they cannot become your source.
06:26They cannot become your peace.
06:29And they cannot become the thing that fills the deepest place within you.
06:33Because that place was never made for achievement.
06:37It was made for God.
06:41And I think that's where Jesus becomes real in a different way.
06:45Not as a church idea.
06:48Not as some religious add-on to an already managed life.
06:53Not as a name you mentioned while still trying to hold your whole life together by yourself.
06:59I mean Jesus as the living one who meets you in the emptiness you cannot fix.
07:07Jesus as the one who sees through all the outward order.
07:11And still knows something deeper within you is tired.
07:16Jesus as the one who does not look at your emptiness and say,
07:21Try harder.
07:22He looks at it and says,
07:26Come to me.
07:27And that matters.
07:29Well, it matters to me.
07:32Because some people are exhausted from trying to save themselves with better habits, better performance.
07:39Better choices, better control, and better self-management.
07:46At some point, though, you start realizing the problem is not just that your life needs adjustment.
07:55Your soul needs Christ.
07:58And that does not mean your hard work was worthless.
08:02It does not mean discipline is bad.
08:05It does not mean responsibility does not matter.
08:09It just means those things are terrible gods.
08:14They make awful saviors.
08:16And they can never love you back.
08:20They can't forgive you.
08:22They can't hold you together when grief hits.
08:25They cannot heal loneliness.
08:29I feel lonely.
08:31I feel lonely a lot, you know.
08:34And they cannot speak peace into fear.
08:37They cannot tell you who you are when your strength starts running low.
08:43They cannot stay with you in the dark parts of life where nothing looks polished anymore.
08:50But Jesus can.
08:53And that's the difference.
08:55He's not asking you to become impressive enough to deserve fullness.
09:00He's asking you to stop building your life on things that were always too small to carry you.
09:10And maybe that's why you still feel empty.
09:14Not because you're beyond repair and not because you failed.
09:18Not because your life has no value.
09:21Maybe you feel empty because the human heart was never built to be fed outward success alone.
09:29Maybe you feel empty because your soul knows there has to be more than this.
09:35Maybe you feel empty because God did not create you to live on achievement, motion, and management.
09:43Maybe the emptiness is not there to mock you.
09:47Maybe it's there to wake you up.
09:49Maybe it's showing you that you need something deeper than a well-run life.
09:54Maybe it's trying to lead you back to the only one who can actually fill with the world, keeps leaving
10:03hollow.
10:05And I know that can sound too simple, especially if you've been hurting for a while.
10:12And I know some people hear that and think, I already believe in Jesus.
10:17I already pray.
10:19I already know who he is.
10:21Then I want to ask you a question.
10:25Why do you still feel this way?
10:28Because that's the real question.
10:30Sometimes the answer is not that you do not know him at all.
10:36Sometimes the answer is that you have known about him while still building your daily peace on other things.
10:45Sometimes you have believed in him, but you have still looked to control, progress, routine image, or productivity to make
10:58you feel alive.
10:59And sometimes you have carried Jesus in your mind while the real center of your life was still being held
11:06together by your own effort.
11:08And that's exhausting.
11:11No wonder you feel tired.
11:15The invitation is not to throw your life away.
11:19It's to bring the real version of your life to Christ.
11:23Bring him the emptiness.
11:25Bring him the numbness.
11:28Bring him the disappointment.
11:31Bring him the part of you that is tired of trying so hard without feeling more alive.
11:38Bring him the quiet fear that maybe this is all life is going to feel like.
11:45Bring him the ache you cannot explain and let him into the actual center, not just the edges.
11:53Let him into the place where you keep trying to be enough.
11:56Let him into the place where you have been holding yourself together so tightly that you forgot what rest even
12:05feels like.
12:07Because, here's the truth.
12:10You can do everything right by the world's standards and still miss the thing that matters most.
12:18You can build a decent life and still have a starving soul.
12:22You can stay busy enough to avoid collapse and still never become full.
12:30But Jesus did not come just to make you more functional.
12:36He came to give you a life.
12:38Real life.
12:40Deep life.
12:41The kind of life that does not depend on how perfect your routine is or how polished your image looks.
12:48The kind of life that can still breathe when everything in you feels worn down.
12:55The kind of life that reminds you that your soul was made for more than survival.
13:05So, if you've been asking why you still feel empty even when you're doing everything right,
13:11maybe you're not alone in asking that question.
13:14Maybe many of us are.
13:16Maybe the answer is not that you're broken beyond repair.
13:22Maybe the answer is that doing everything right was never supposed to be your salvation.
13:29Maybe your heart is telling you the truth.
13:32Maybe it's telling you that you need more than order.
13:37More than progress.
13:39More than success.
13:42More than self-control.
13:44Maybe it's telling you that you need Jesus in a way that is real, close, personal, and alive.
13:54You know what?
13:56That's not bad news.
13:58That's the beginning of real hope.
14:03My name is Douglas Vandegraaff, and I believe in Jesus Christ.
14:09God bless every single one of you.
14:14Every single one.
14:17Bye-bye.
