00:00The disappearance of the firearms and ammunition at the San Fernando Municipal Police Station after the murder of acting Corporal
00:07Anoushka Eversley last Sunday has not only led police to the recovery of at least 38 of the firearms, but
00:14investigators based on an arrest of one of the suspects say there was likely deeper ties to a major gun
00:19trafficking operation being accommodated at the Piaco International Airport.
00:23Since the daring heist at the police station and the brazen murder of Eversley, police have tracked down and recovered
00:30at least 30th of the firearms stolen, some 900 rungs of ammo recovered and bagged at least 11 suspects in
00:36a 72-hour period.
00:38One of those suspects, investigators say, was heavily linked to a central businessman who remains in hiding, who not only
00:45played an integral role in assisting with the smuggling of the firearms, but also made the underwilled connections to have
00:51the firearms sold to criminal elements in South and Central Trinidad.
00:55That suspect, who is linked to the businessman, well-placed, sources say, also had access to sensitive areas of the
01:02airport where they believe they also assisted in facilitating in the trafficking of firearms into the country on the bidding
01:09of the businessman who is described as well-connected in the underworld.
01:14Investigators say they have obtained certain leads connected to the outstanding firearms in the hands of certain criminal elements and
01:21are hopeful in the not-too-distant future to make further breakthroughs in recovering most, if not all, the firearms
01:27in question.
01:29Since the incident, some 13 suspects have been in custody, with one of them a 28-year-old municipal police
01:35officer set to be charged for the murder of acting Corporal Eversley, while the others are liable to face firearms,
01:41ammunition and other charges connected to the incident.
