BMitch goes through his final mock draft live from Pittsburgh and he is picking Carnell Tate to go to Washington at No. 7.
Transcript
00:00The young man who is down in IMG Academy with my daughter is going to be with the Washington Commanders,
00:07Tate, Cornell Tate.
00:08Cornell Tate is the pick.
00:10That's the pick.
00:10I thought you were going Bane.
00:12I had Bane until about an hour and a half ago.
00:16Really?
00:17Yeah.
00:17Okay.
00:18So you're going Tate over Jordan Tyson.
00:22Yeah.
00:22Is that health?
00:24I think it's more the health thing for me because I just believe that they're in a position where they
00:32can't take chances with a guy.
00:34If a guy has a health problem in his history, I don't think this group right now in Washington can
00:43afford that.
00:44What we saw last year in that receiving group with the injuries, Noel Brown basically missed most of the year.
00:52I think that right there is the reason I'm thinking this because Noel Brown is a guy.
00:56Terry missed a ton of time.
00:57If you say if he's right, if he's right, if he's right, but he was never right.
01:01Terry missed a ton of time, Brown missed time.
01:03Debo maybe only missed a game, but he was dealing with that heel for a big chunk of the season.
01:10But I guess I'm saying, like Terry is a guy where he was normally hurt.
01:15Terry had a history of never being hurt.
01:17Right.
01:18You know, and it happened.
01:18But, like, if you go with somebody that has that history, I think that's not going to be good.
01:24What's interesting with Carnell Tate is he only missed – I don't think he missed games his first two years
01:33at Ohio State,
01:34but he did miss a little bit of time last season.
01:38He missed three games in November.
01:40He missed the Purdue game, the UCLA game, and the Rutgers game.
01:43And now, Ohio State handles this like hockey teams.
01:47They described it as lower body tightness.
01:50They said it was a calf issue.
01:52But I would also add, with Ohio State playing Purdue, UCLA, and Rutgers, they were probably – we could probably
02:03look this up.
02:04I imagine the Buckeyes were two touchdown favorites in all those games, maybe more than that.
02:09But Ryan Day described Carnell Tate missing those games as precautionary.
02:14Like, Ohio State was so loaded.
02:17And those three teams, Purdue, UCLA, and Rutgers, were –
02:32He has this on his phone.
02:33So, Brian Mitchell, official mock draft.
02:36Fernando Mendoza goes to Las Vegas at one.
02:39Arvel Reese goes to the Jets at two.
02:42The Arizona Cardinals –
02:43Love some love.
02:45Maybe at the behest of their owner taking Jeremiah Love at three.
02:49Tennessee Titans take Mauga, the big tackle from Miami to protect Cam Ward.
02:54I think a tackle there makes a ton of sense.
02:57New York football giants are taking David Bailey.
03:00Bailey.
03:00That would be a great slide for New York if they get Bailey at five.
03:05Cleveland goes Sonny Stiles, the guy that absolutely lit up the NFL scouting combine.
03:10And the Washington Commanders taking Carnell Tate.
03:13I thought you were going Bain all the way.
03:15Yep.
03:16I was thinking it.
03:17Who would you want Bain or – like, is wide receiver the position you'd think,
03:24or is wide receiver the position you'd want them to take?
03:27Wide receiver, I think, fits what they needed, and also they're going to have to have it as we go
03:39past the years from now.
03:40For sure.
03:41You know, I just think that that is a better situation of what they definitely are going to need.
03:46I believe that this is a value position, unlike some people.
03:51Yeah, that's a –
03:53That's a dumbass take.
03:54That tweet that got sent to us is a wild, wild take.
03:59We won't even address that.
04:03Seriously.
04:04Like, it's one of –
04:05You're talking about clickbait, boy.
04:07What is – who's the second highest, besides quarterback, is wide receiver or DN the highest – maybe –
04:15Combination.
04:16Wide receiver, DN, and tackle are the highest paid positions.
04:19To suggest those aren't premium positions is just asinine.
04:25Regardless of that, I think – I did see this tweet from Joe Theismann that I found interesting.
04:31Joe T says he thinks the Commanders will go corner or safety.
04:35They can wait on a wide receiver, although it's a position of need.
04:39I agree with that.
04:41Tyson scares me a little, honestly.
04:44Yeah.
04:46My three people I was thinking at that pick were Bain, Tate, and – what's it called?
04:51Downs.
04:52Mansour.
04:52Oh, Delane.
04:53Yeah.
04:53Okay.
04:54I won't – I won't be mad if they take Jordan Tyson because clearly people think this is a player
05:02that can change an offense.
05:04But I do think Jordan Tyson presents the biggest risk.
05:10Yeah.
05:10Like, you're drafting a dude with lingering hamstring issues.
05:14Yeah.
05:14And you're going to put him through the medicals, and you're going to feel really confident in your medical team.
05:20But I think what I have said throughout this draft process, with the seventh overall pick, the Commanders, Adam Peters,
05:30Dan Quinn, Lance Newmark, David Blau, Durante Jones, there is one assignment.
05:35They have one assignment they have to complete, and that is nail the pick.
05:41Yeah.
05:41And if you go Tyson, it's the most questions.
05:45Definitely.
05:46It doesn't mean maybe it's the right pick.
05:48Like, there were questions about Tett McMillan last year for Carolina.
05:51And you know what?
05:51He showed up and was a star.
05:54He was great for them.
05:56So Tyson may well prove to be the guy, but it does present the most questions.
06:03Yeah, totally.
06:04And I think there are some sure things on the board.
06:07And to me, Downs is a sure thing.
06:09He's going to be a good player for you for a decade.
06:11I think Delane is a good player for you at corner.
06:14Mm-hmm.
06:16I don't know, Tyson.
06:17I think Bain is a sure thing as far as a good player.
06:21I don't think he has the high ceiling that maybe Bailey or Reese have.
06:25I want to open the phones up.
06:27800-636-1067.
06:30800-636-1067.
06:33Before we get to the callers, I'm curious where the boys in the aquarium land on Bemich's mock.
06:39What do you think, boys?
06:41Carnell Tate is the pick.
06:43I like it.
06:44Carnell Tate, for me, is just one of those safe picks.
06:47If you're taking an Ohio State receiver, I always feel good about that.
06:51And so I think that's someone who's going to help you immediately.
06:54He's great.
06:55I think he's going to line up perfectly next to Terry McClellan.
06:57So if it was Carnell Tate, I'd be thrilled with that.
07:02I think Brian Mitchell is exposing something right now.
07:07He's letting us know what's going to happen.
07:09Who?
07:10Yeah, Bemich knows we're picking Carnell Tate.
07:13So I think he put that as a mock so he can be right.
07:15No, Bemich don't know nothing.
07:17I wish I did.
07:19Listen, I don't think I talk to anybody that makes decisions.
07:24I'm just staring the pot, man.
07:25I'm just staring the pot.
07:26I know who Bemich was hanging out with last night.
07:29There were some burgundy and gold legends.
07:31There were a lot of folks.
07:33I did not see Adam Peters at the William Penn Hotel last night.
07:37The people I was hanging with last night, I don't want to believe nothing he was saying.
07:41They certainly had opinions last night.
07:43But I don't know that they were informed or decision-making.
07:46Matt, I don't know if Matt knew what he was talking about.
07:50There's kind of three receivers at the top of this draft in Lemon, Tate, Tyson.
07:54It seems that Tate and Tyson have emerged as the top two.
07:58I think Tate is by far the cleaner prospect.
08:02I think he is by far, to me,
08:06if I had to bet on one rookie-wide receiver to have 1,000 yards next season,
08:12the safest money would be Tate.
08:15You know what I mean?
08:16I bet if B's could make us odds, to me it would be Tate at plus 170,
08:22Tyson at plus 210, and then Lemon maybe at plus 250.
08:27You know what I mean?
08:28I think Tate is the highest floor receiver.
08:31I think receiver makes a ton of sense, both to win this season,
08:35which is imperative for Dan Quinn,
08:37but also for the long-term roster construction.
08:40And I think AP needs to balance both of those things in making this decision.
08:45I also don't...
08:46But just reading what Kime had put out,
08:50I agree with that, where he said,
08:52that's what it is about the quarterback,
08:53is not making him have to score 25, 30 points.
08:55And look at me on the lookout,
08:55there's a little bit of this secret,
