JP and BMitch debate which wide receiver is the best pick for Washington in the upcoming draft.
Transcript
00:00b you've said it throughout as as some fans have clamored for jeremiah love
00:08your point has been if you're going offense you need receivers more than running backs
00:14and carnell tate has kind of emerged as the consensus top receiver in this class although
00:21we just talked to matt miller from espn he's not so sure about that here's matt talking about makai
00:28lemon smaller maybe slack guy out of usc you know here's my hot take i think lemon's the best
00:34receiver in the class so i maybe take the consensus i i try to insulate myself from like what a
00:40lot of
00:40other people are saying about the draft i think lemons and they're close like i have them like
00:46one player seven one player eight but i love wide receivers that get open the on timing on leverage
00:53on technique they both do that really well but i just love the toughness and the ability to break
00:58tackles and run through contact that lemon has tyson i i'm with you but it's it's a hamstring issue
01:04that's scary and it's a guy who has been banged up a decent amount and then the last time we
01:10saw him
01:10healthy in 2024 he had some drop issues so good player i mean he didn't come in as big as
01:18i thought
01:18he was you know he came at like 16 200 pounds you know and he was kind of billed as
01:22this big jump ball
01:23guy that's not what he measured in at at all and and so it's like okay what are you you
01:29know i i think
01:30he might be closer to like jerry judy as a receiver than than you know what he was thought to
01:34be as like
01:35a t higgins type player so i like tyson i like omar cooper jr better all right a lot of
01:42interesting
01:43stuff there right carnell tate has emerged as the consensus number one receiver in this draft class
01:49um tate's been highly productive on really good ohio state teams last year tate went five 51 catches
01:56875 yards nine touchdowns now there's a lot of mouths to feed in that ohio state offense and
02:04honestly they they were pretty conservatively offensively they kind of ran the ball a ton a lot
02:10but kai lemon though just on the numbers significant delta here 79 catches 1 156 yards 11 touchdowns
02:19um if you look at the combine profiles for these guys lemon is is is a lot smaller he's a
02:28different
02:28kind of back he's a different kind of receiver he said smaller slot receiver they list them 5 11 190
02:36okay i don't think that's just that's not really smaller slot receiver i think you look at 5859 who's
02:44the guy that you think can be are you gonna play him at slot are you gonna play him outside
02:49because
02:50slot receivers don't normally get drafted that early not even close receivers don't normally get drafted
02:55in the first round so if he's a slot receiver will history repeat itself and he falls out the first
03:01run well although he may be you may think he's the best but if people have made him and labeled
03:07him
03:07as a slot receiver he may get affected by that now what you're hoping for and this is trying to
03:16measure heart toughness grit which is hard to measure right what you're hoping for with lemon if
03:25you're drafting him high what the team that whether it's washington or kansas city or houston
03:31whoever drafts lemon if he goes top 15 in this draft which i think is a real possibility
03:37you're hoping you get amon ross st brown you're hoping you get a guy that the size is not the
03:43definitive factor but the question is the toughness when when was amon ross st brown drafted fourth round
03:51so do you want to stretch you you want to take that reach for a guy you're not sure of
03:56that could be
03:57that guy tate doesn't have the questions of where he plays and you know and then i and i think
04:05for
04:05washington it's not just about drafting a guy for this year it's about a guy for the next few years
04:12because my dog i love terry tate is 6-2 but you're looking at the next two three years where
04:21where is
04:22that going to be totally so like it's not about next year you're completely right and that's what
04:29makes this kind of interesting adam peters in arizona we asked him about the current wide receiver room
04:36because to me you've absolutely raised the floor your fifth and sixth wide outs were chris moore
04:41and robbie chosen now they're probably diami brown and van jefferson you have raised the floor
04:46uh adam peters talking about the wide receiver room earlier this week yeah i think i mean really
04:52every room is a room we'd still like to add i mean it's march 30th right now so um but
04:56in terms
04:57of that room specifically i mean obviously have terry and terry's number one receiver uh we brought
05:02trailing back which i'm really excited about i think he's got another level to go to um he showed
05:07us a lot and you know at practice and in the games when he was able to to make some
05:11plays there
05:12luke and jalen another couple guys that are you know being a year older and we're excited about
05:17and then bringing diami back and van we have a couple young guys in there too so i like the
05:22room
05:22right now but i think just like everywhere um you know we have a lot of time to add before
05:27we play in
05:27september it sounds like what you keep saying now you also have an interesting take on the
05:36drafting a wide out
05:41how does it break down for you i just think that when you look at value in this day and
05:47age in football
05:49the receiver has way more value than the running back now when you have a team that's damn near
05:56there like almost there you bring that running back in you're trying to establish a team the
06:02receiver is the one you bring in because if you look around the league rules are catered towards what
06:07the passing game can't touch receivers just that and the other you got better quarterbacks
06:13that i think makes a world of difference you know getting the running back that you say i'm gonna
06:18give the ball to 35 times game that is no longer you know and if you give it to him
06:2335 times game
06:24you better know the next year he ain't gonna be as protective as he was that the same year you
06:28know
06:28so that receiver hell we got receivers catching 110 130 balls and i'm not talking about just one out
06:36you got multiple guys going over three-digit receptions because the rules are set in the league yeah
06:42yeah the rules are set for those guys to have an opportunity you know to go out there and have
06:48success it's a it's a way more impactful position yes and you there's a zillion metrics you can look at
06:56to support that now if love is a true home run hitter that that maybe changes it but if you
07:02just look at
07:05receptions leaders in the nfl last year you had seven guys go over 100 catches yeah
07:12puka mcbride's a tight end jamar chase uh think about that tight ends are going over 100
07:18jsn amon rock christian mccaffrey's a running back and then a lave at 100 you had i mean just
07:25pickens and wandale robinson went over 90 everybody's getting close to that 100 now bro
07:32it's a different game when you look at the running backs theirs are going down let's let trucker dan
07:38way in calling in on the hotline what's up trucker what's up what's that man uh five number seven
08:04and i'm not picking a wild receiver at number seven when it's so much wild receivers
08:08that we can get at that that's the way to draft it if jeremiah love is there i'd take him
08:13because
08:14that's one of a kind of guy with all the stats that you mentioned you did say one name that
08:18jeremiah
08:19kind of similar you said christian mccaffrey like it or not the boy's close to the man
08:24and if you come into the league player like that then that's a steal and number teller
08:28he's definitely gonna have everybody on hush but i don't think he's gonna be there i think
08:32tennessee's gonna take him so with that being said who do you get i'd rather take that corner
08:37or bane i know i know a lot of people don't talk about bane but that man think talks to
08:42itself
08:43everybody how on baby but bane is there for one season bane is doing this so ever since he's been
08:48playing but but i do like what that guy called it said man i like i like i like that
08:53quarterback
08:53and i definitely love that wild receiver at 71 so if i don't see him do that and he bring
08:59in iu
08:59yeah i think i think bane is a bully yes you know we talk about getting a guy like that
09:07on
09:07yeah talking about getting a guy like that on offense but defensively he makes plays
09:15so you know i understand what people talk about the arm lane and as uh with what's the young lady
09:21told us it's an eighth of an inch yeah so if if you think a guy can be whatever with
09:28an eighth of an
09:28inch longer arm that's that much and as she said if you get up in the morning stretch a little
09:35more
09:36you might just get that you know what i'm saying
