JP and BMitch believe Washington has a massive opportunity tonight with the NFC East continuing to struggle.
Transcript
00:00What an opportunity for the Burgundy and Gold.
00:03Yep, they are. They got one. They got one.
00:05It is remarkable how inept this NFC East is looking early in the year here.
00:11You know, I was traveling yesterday, so I'm trying to like watch games on Wi-Fi, on airplanes, which is
00:16just impossible.
00:18But certainly keep a track of everything. I land. I'm able to watch the end of these games.
00:23Eagles lose at home to the Panthers.
00:26I was never wrong about Bryce Young. I was just early, Brian.
00:29Bryce Young is a baller. It just took a little while.
00:33So the Eagles lose first shoe to drop.
00:36The Giants lose to your Saints.
00:39Not my Saints. They just lost to the Saints.
00:42I've never been a Saints fan.
00:44I know, but you liked them going into this year.
00:46But they bench Jameis. They go to J.J. McCarthy, who actually gives them some juice.
00:51I was pretty surprised.
00:52He gives them juice because he just won that game.
00:54Give the team a week to prepare for him. He's garbage, too.
00:57I agree with you, but he at least aired it out.
00:59I mean, he went deep.
01:01Brian, this is remarkable.
01:03He had 243 yards passing on 11 completions.
01:08I mean, he did something.
01:10But regardless, Giants lose.
01:12And then in the nightcap, Dallas loses.
01:16I watched that whole game.
01:17It was enjoyable.
01:18I couldn't fall asleep.
01:20It was just so good.
01:22B, for all the talk about Dallas' defense, which is a problem, okay?
01:28Green Bay converted 11 of 18 third downs.
01:31You can't get off the field.
01:32I mean, you stink.
01:34Their offense isn't good.
01:35We heard so much talk about the Cowboys' offense.
01:38Pickens, Lamb, Javante Williams.
01:40Dak's going to go throw for 5,000.
01:42Well, he got the hell beat out of him last night.
01:44That offensive line sucked.
01:45Dude, they can't – the Dallas collapsed so far this season.
01:52I mean, they're 2-4.
01:55Like, their offense is supposed to be this juggernaut, and they just aren't.
01:58And I find that really interesting.
02:01If you watch them play – this is the thing with Dallas.
02:05When I see a lot of very good football teams out there,
02:09you see some level of chemistry and cheer for each other.
02:13That team right there, when C.D. get the ball, pickens start bitching.
02:20When pickens get the ball, C.D. stops running.
02:23They don't play, like, hand-in-hand with each other to try to help each other out.
02:28They – like, if one person not getting it, the other one sulks.
02:32And that's basically how that team is.
02:34That team has been like that for some years now, where they are not together per se.
02:39Do you remember – I think I said this last week, and it's kind of easy to dismiss
02:43because they're two excellent players.
02:45And when you have two excellent players on the field, the thought is you're better.
02:49But I swear that offense is better when they only have one of the two of those guys.
02:55Because last year, pickens killed it largely when Lamb was out.
02:58Even earlier this year against Tampa – I guess that was only two weeks ago –
03:02they – Lamb went out late in that game, and then the offense started to move
03:06because George Pickens on those little inside slant routes seems relatively unstoppable.
03:11But you're right.
03:12It's like they're trying to massage egos or something with the two wideouts,
03:15and it's just sinking the offense as a whole.
03:18And I think when you look at Dak, Dak is the guy who wants to please.
03:21So he'll throw pickens about four, and then, oh, he got to make sure he gets C.D. four.
03:27And I think defense is going to catch on to that.
03:29You know, but that team does not seem to be playing with the level of confidence
03:34they had early on in the season.
03:36No way.
03:37I mean, absolutely.
03:39And if you look at the NFC East, and I'm not trying to, like, sugarcoat
03:43what Washington has been so far, because you are what your record is.
03:47They're 1-4-1, coming off one of the most – I mean, just inexplicable.
03:531-3-1.
03:54Don't be being predicted stuff, man.
03:551-3-1.
03:56I'm sorry.
03:57But, like –
03:572-3-1.
03:59Dude, Brian, if they can get to 2-3-1, they'll be a half game back of the Giants.
04:05Yeah.
04:07The entire division, as it stands right now, has a negative point differential.
04:11The Giants are minus four through six games.
04:15Eagles are minus 31 through six games.
04:18Watch out for what could happen in Philly, because that thing could get sideways.
04:21Yeah.
04:21Dallas, minus eight through six games.
04:25And Washington, minus 34 through five games.
04:28But they have a chance tonight.
04:30And I'm fully aware of the records and the numbers.
04:34You know, I don't think you have to be a mathematician to understand expectations for Washington are low tonight.
04:40But there is a reason they play the game.
04:44There you go.
04:44Well, you know, and the thing about it, like, you know, I know fans live from week to week.
04:48And a lot of us in the media, we write stories based off of week to week.
04:54But when you say this thing is a marathon, it's a marathon.
04:57Totally.
04:57Because you never know what's going to happen.
05:00You just got to get yourself right.
05:01And the thing about Washington, and I know I've said this for some years now, I need to see them
05:06play all three phases.
05:07Because I haven't seen that happen this year, for sure.
05:10And I haven't seen it happen a lot last year.
05:12But if they can just get themselves together, they can do some things.
05:18They can do whatever they wanted to do from the beginning of the season.
05:21Because right now, their division has put them in position to say, okay, let's write this stuff and get right.
05:27And then they got teams coming up.
05:29Let's be real.
05:30You know, they don't need to be doing this, but we can do stuff like this.
05:33The Rams look like something wrong with them.
05:36You know?
05:37Philly?
05:38Philly, something wrong.
05:39No, it's things that are coming up now to where it's not going to be what we thought it was
05:44from the beginning of the season.
05:45And that's the thing about it.
05:46Like, when you start talking about a season in the off season and before everything starts, when everybody is healthy,
05:54we can predict stuff based off of what it should be.
05:57According to what the records were and the health and what you saw last year.
06:03But once the season starts and things start happening, that's where you have to readjust.
06:08And right now, they, look, they have not played some good football.
06:13But they're still right there if they can start taking care of business.
06:17Totally.
06:18B, I mean, even going back to when the schedule dropped, whatever that was, first week of May, my thought
06:24throughout was, like, you just got to tread water early because you're going to have opportunities late.
06:29And a lot of the opportunities late, I was thinking, I mean, weeks 12 and 13, you got back-to
06:34-back games at Arizona and at Tennessee.
06:36And that Cardinals team is plucky.
06:38When they show up, they can be tough.
06:40They beat L.A. yesterday, right?
06:42They beat the Rams yesterday.
06:43But you've got Arizona and Tennessee on the road.
06:46Tennessee just won a game.
06:47But, like, you can't count anything out.
06:50But all of a sudden, the stretch after the bye here, Philly looks like a mess.
06:55Looks like you're going to get Tanner McKee there.
06:56The Rams at home.
06:58I mean, that's back-to-back home games against teams with stars, certainly, but teams with, you know, losing records.
07:05Then you get the Giants at home.
07:09Because I wanted to get connected early here in California.
07:12I was listening in probably, like, the last 20 minutes of the junks.
07:15And I thought Bishop said it really well.
07:18Washington kicked the Giants' ass for 53 minutes.
07:22Obviously, the end of the game matters the most because you didn't get away with the win.
07:26But they were the better team in that game for most of the game.
07:30And now they might be going to J.J. McCarthy.
07:32Who knows exactly what the Giants are doing?
07:34But you come out of that bye with three, I would argue, quite winnable games.
07:39And, I mean, then it's Cincy at Monday night at home, Arizona, Tennessee.
07:43Like, the door, whether or not the door should be closed doesn't matter.
07:48The fact that the door is open is all that matters.
07:51And I just think if you can get a win tonight as unconventional and as surprising as that may be,
08:00it completely changes everything.
08:02It does.
08:03It absolutely does.
08:05And, listen, man, when I was looking at the games yesterday,
08:09and I'm watching teams that I feel are supposed to just roll, and they're not.
08:15And they're not rolling, not because they just played bad.
08:18Like, I hear people trying to say, like, you know, how some teams just play bad offensively.
08:22No, no, no.
08:23Green Bay made Dallas offense play bad.
08:26I mean, they, look, they were on his butt.
08:30And who was it I watched yesterday?
08:32Every time the dude got under center, they blitzed him.
08:35What game was I watching?
08:38And every time they blitzed him, they got to him because they were running play action and different things.
08:43Every time he got under center, they blitzed him.
08:46And they stopped him.
08:47So, they, this is now, this is where coaches, see, this is not just a player getting better thing.
08:54Coaches got to start now finding that one little thing that may get you over the hump.
09:00Because as I watched that game yesterday, I can't remember the damn game.
09:03I watched so many damn football, so much football yesterday.
09:06And I normally don't have a good chance to watch games like this, Jay.
09:09Every time the quarterback got under center, they say, yeah.
09:11Every time he gets under center, they blitzed him.
09:12If you watch that many games on a Sunday, it means it must have been cold at home.
09:17Like, something kept you in the house.
09:19Yeah, yeah.
09:19When the grandkids up?
09:20It was a little chilly.
09:20It was a little chilly.
09:21Okay.
09:22Because I know B. Mitch on a Sunday when he doesn't have to work.
09:25That's a bike ride and a golf course and eight racks of ribs outside on the smoker.
09:30I was trying to think of a game I was watching when they, but every time the dude went under
09:35center, they blitzed him.
09:36And they got to him.
09:37Well, I just think there was a period of time where there were a number of teams we would have
09:43dismissed as dead, right?
09:45I think the Browns, we dismissed out of hand before the season.
09:50They're now 4-2.
09:51Yeah.
09:52I think the Texans were 0-4.
09:54All of a sudden, they've won two in a row.
09:56They beat the Jags in London.
09:58To me, the Texans are a not-dead-yet team.
10:01Hell no.
10:01With a defense like that, you're never dead.
10:03Exactly.
10:04Exactly.
10:04The Panthers, I think, it started kind of ugly.
10:07I think the Panthers are a not-dead-yet team.
10:10I don't know if the Eagles are dead yet.
10:13That's a hard team to bury.
10:15But they're 2-4 and have real offensive problems.
10:19Earlier in the year, the Steelers looked terrible.
10:21All of a sudden, they're 4-2.
10:24The Cardinals, I don't think that's a playoff team, but they have the same record as the Rams now.
10:30They're both 2-4.
10:32The Packers, early in the year, looked dead.
10:35All of a sudden, they're 4-2.
10:37Like, a football season is a living, breathing organism that morphs and evolves over the course of five months.
10:45And we are still relatively early in this thing.
10:48And say what you will about a lot of results that did not go their way.
10:54But Washington has a chance tonight, man.
