00:00Fired up to jump on the Rude Guest Hotline.
00:02If it ain't rude, it ain't right.
00:04And talk to our friend, Mr. Thor Nystrom.
00:07Just launched a new Substack.
00:08You can check that out at thorku.substack.com.
00:12Of course, check out all his work at Score North.
00:15Thor, what's up, buddy?
00:16How are you?
00:17I'm doing great, guys.
00:18How are you doing?
00:19We're doing well, man.
00:19We are good, man.
00:21We are good.
00:23One week till the draft.
00:25What do we know and what is BS?
00:30Man, we're going to find out in the next week, right?
00:33But we're getting so close.
00:35You guys know we're in silly season right now.
00:38So some of these things that you see every day in the news,
00:40I just sort of chuckle at it.
00:46So in a lot of ways, the draft starts at two.
00:49More and more, it seems like David Bailey's going too.
00:52Are you of that mindset?
00:56Yeah.
00:57Yeah, and that's been one of my bigger positions as far as betting
01:01in the prop market is betting David Bailey at two.
01:05That's been the guy that I've mocked to the Jets
01:07since the start of the process.
01:09I do buy the smoke there.
01:11David Bailey, he has that one, the biggest superpower there,
01:14the biggest trump card of those addressers that you could consider
01:18there at number two, obviously, with the pass rushing ability.
01:20And yeah, he is well within play for the number two pick.
01:24So in that case, I think most people believe he's going to the draft
01:29to us at three.
01:30And then you look at three and four.
01:32Some people see the interest of the Titans in forward love.
01:36Is there a possibility that you think he slips down?
01:39I do think it's a possibility, obviously, defenses as well.
01:43And which is the edge rusher that's going to get to number four there, right?
01:47So, I mean, that's the thing you're sort of considering there.
01:50But yeah, I think love is in play, you know, anywhere from there to the number seven
01:56pack.
01:56I think he's going somewhere in there.
01:57Um, do you have, listen, I, you study the draft closer than anybody, but do you have
02:06any reservations taking a running back between four and seven?
02:11Um, in a lot of draft classes, JP, I would say, yes, I do in this draft class.
02:17I absolutely do not.
02:19There is so few of the blue chip guys there at the top that would sort of demand that
02:24you go with the more valuable position and, and you've heard more of this as we've gotten
02:29closer to the draft that people talking about this year, toss out position value.
02:33I think that that's true because of the dearth of those blue chippers there at the top.
02:38And when you sort of, you know, unstack the deck of, of, of those shirt thing, blue chip
02:42type guys in a class, that's how you see guys like Jeremiah love Caleb Jones, uh, get
02:47moved up into that echelon that we're talking about top five, top seven.
02:52So as I mean, you, you obviously, we want to talk about number seven, um, give me a percentage
02:58chance.
02:59Jeremiah love gets to seven.
03:05I would say I'm going to say like 28%.
03:10Okay.
03:12So you really think the Titans are in play for him?
03:16Yeah, I do.
03:17I, I, I mean, I think all those teams up there are, you know, like I, I, I mean, I
03:21think
03:21I, I just think you have to have such a serious conversation about that, what he can do to
03:26the offense.
03:27Jeremiah loves ability to win down the field as a receiver, uh, before the ball has been
03:31thrown now, you know, the stuff that he displayed on the field last year at Notre
03:34Dame day, every single weakness of his game, it's like he systematically takes one out every
03:40single off season, one, one, one or more, and, and has become this complete back.
03:44So yeah, in, in this particular draft class, I, I do think he's in play pretty quickly
03:49there.
03:50Can we talk about the receiver position?
03:52Um, because for Washington receivers, the one that would make the most sense, right?
03:58Like just looking at the roster construction and how much receivers cost and free agency,
04:02but it doesn't seem, it seems like the consensus is dwindling on Carnell Tate being the top
04:09receiver.
04:09And there's a lot of conversations about what it could be.
04:13Yeah.
04:14And I, I'm sort of with that as well.
04:17I think on my board, I think I have Carnell Tate, it's either nine or 10 and I've Jordan
04:21Tyson right behind them, 11 or 12.
04:23And I've said throughout, if there was no medical issues with Jordan Tyson, he would be my clear
04:29wide receiver one in this class.
04:30I think he would probably become the, the wide receiver one consensus in this class, but
04:35it's a totally different reality.
04:37It's like, you know, doing the thing of like, uh, if the Angelo Pons was four inches taller
04:42and, and 30 pounds heavier, then, then he would be right.
04:45Like we, we, we can't just sort of decide on evaluations.
04:47Oh, if this thing was, was this, but yeah.
04:50Um, I think that, that sets that sort of debate up there.
04:54And then I also think guys, the depth of this wide receiver class is pretty strong too.
05:00And I think that also goes into the thing of, do we really want to be the team that sort
05:05of jumps the gun on that wide receiver position first?
05:08Um, because in the subsequent rounds, we, we feel like maybe that's a position where
05:11you get good value at.
05:13So I know we look at the top seven and we're looking when Washington's at seven, when you
05:17come down to love, but are there any people that are behind Washington that may have enough,
05:23I guess, you know, uh, a draft capital to be able to move up and get in front of them
05:28to try and take a love.
05:30Yeah.
05:31I, I think that there's going to be a lot of interest in that for sure.
05:35Um, you know, there's been, uh, the ubiquitous rumors of the Cowboys trading up to the, the
05:40number six pick with the Browns.
05:42And, and we've had sort of a, an insider battle here the last couple of days of like, you know,
05:47that we saw that in several mock drafts that the Cowboys moving up.
05:51And then, um, you saw some reporting the other way of people saying, no, I don't think that
05:55that's going to happen.
05:56That's just one example of it.
05:58The Cowboys obviously have the ammunition, uh, to move up, but yeah, with a player like
06:02Jeremiah love in a sort of wild card, um, at a position like that in this class, when
06:07you're, you're, you have some teams down the board that are going to say, we don't like
06:11this draft class at all.
06:12If not this moment, then when for us to go up and make a big move and try to put
06:17together
06:18draft equity to make a move up like that up the board for a guy like Jeremiah love.
06:22So yeah, I, I, I definitely think that's in play and the way that the draft ends up playing
06:28out is going to be heavily informed by where does Jeremiah love eventually go there in the
06:32top five, top seven.
06:33Yeah.
06:34He's like the biggest wild card in all of this.
06:37Um, I, I, I totally agree.
06:39I'm curious where you're at on Ruben Bain.
06:43Um, be Mitch and I are of the mindset, whatever news has emerged teams probably already knew
06:49and their evaluations haven't changed.
06:52The only thing I think that could impact his evaluation is if some reports are saying he
06:58either didn't tell the whole truth or out or actually lied in interviews about the traffic
07:03incidents.
07:03That's the only thing I think NFL execs would care about.
07:08I, I, I definitely agree with that.
07:10Yes.
07:11And, and the on-field evaluation with Ruben Bain, um, I'm, I'm a huge, huge fan of his game.
07:16He's the number two overall player on my board and the top available.
07:19Well, non-quarterback, you know, I have Fernando Mendoza there at the top, but the, the on-field
07:24game, it's to me pretty close to unimpeachable.
07:27I don't care about the arm length.
07:28I've seen too much film of him dominating games.
07:31The other thing with him that doesn't get talked about enough, you know, people, he's
07:35a two, two, a defensive end.
07:37And we all know that he's really good against the run in addition to being a terror against
07:41the pass, but he plays more snaps than any of these interior defensive linemen.
07:45And not only in this class, you go back the last 10, 15 years, the percentage of defensive
07:50snaps played that, that, that kid, you can't get them off the field.
07:54And no matter what the game situation is, your defense needs him out there because he just
07:59wreaks havoc.
08:00So yeah, for, for me, such a valuable player on the field.
08:04And obviously each team, you know, as you guys know, you know, this goes with medical,
08:08this goes with character.
08:09Um, this goes with every little question of the evaluation that's going to be up to
08:13each of the 32 individual teams.
08:15They're going to have conversations about that.
08:17And how does something like that raise your risk threshold for, for each of those individual
08:22teams?
08:22That's obviously a discussion.
08:24They're all going to have to have after they have discussions with, with Ruben Bain and
08:27people around that situation.
08:29But just as far as that, the on-field evaluation, like I said, I'm big, big fan of Ruben, Ruben
08:34Bain's
08:34game.
08:34I'm happy to hear you say that.
08:35Cause I know a lot of people just look at the arms and they start finding the reasons
08:39that not that dude is a, is a baller.
08:42I'm talking about what the violence he played with on the football field.
08:46That's what you wanted as a defense, a defensive player.
08:49The best thing that I heard about that, the Ruben Bain, that the lack of length, this process
08:53is, is evoking it to Mike Tyson in boxing with the power of being able to overcome the lack
08:59of reach.
08:59When you have thunderous power like that to punch through the, the, the, the, the, the,
09:05it tends to mitigate a lack of reach.
09:08Um, you know, as, as you've seen in boxing with Mike Tyson, as you see over and over again
09:12on the football field with Ruben Bain, he's going to punch right through your reach advantage.
09:17Talking with our buddy, Thor Nystrom here on the rude guest hotline.
09:20Give him a follow at Thor KU.
09:22One of the most thorough draft evaluators in the game.
09:26Hey, um, give me a couple, let's, let's jump out of the top 10, right?
09:31Which is dominating our conversation.
09:33Let's give me a couple third or even Saturday picks.
09:36You really like.
09:38Yeah.
09:39A couple of guys that I'm, I'm higher on than, than other folks.
09:42I'm, I'm a big fan of Wisconsin address or Mason Rieger.
09:45Um, I, I have been all process.
09:47I see him solidly as a mid round, uh, type, uh, address in prospect, a guy who's capable of
09:53doing multiple things there, but he can definitely get after the quarterback that that would be
09:57one guy that I would toss out.
09:58You guys brought up cornerbacks and maybe this is top of mind, but Latrell McCutcheon
10:02senior, uh, that the tall, big corner boundary cornerback from Houston, a big fan of his
10:08game, um, against consensus.
10:09I don't think he gets talked about in the neighborhood of some of those big boundary
10:13cornerbacks, but he probably should.
10:15And with, with Washington, I, I feel like I should hit on this, that the, the big boundary
10:20cornerbacks in this class that are immediately playable, I feel like there's depth in this
10:25class, at least to the middle rounds with that.
10:28There's just so many of those different guys.
10:30Ephesians price sock is one of them.
10:32Uh, that, that, that Neil kid, um, uh, more from Florida, uh, to Cario Davis, the other
10:39guy, the, from the other side, from Ephesians price, like at Washington, there's, uh, we'll
10:44leave from, from Texas.
10:45And I could go on and on and on Demings, the, the FCS kid.
10:48But there's so many of those long outside boundary cornerbacks.
10:51I feel like that's what there's a few position groups in this class where even when we say
10:56this draft class is down, that that's true, but there's depth at some positions where you're
11:00going to get a good deal later on down the line at the draft slot that you're in.
11:04If you pick that position, I think boundary cornerbacks, one of those in Washington needing
11:08to add size in that cornerback room.
11:10I think that's something that, that they ought to consider and monitor, you know, once you get
11:14outside of day one, that is something that they should absolutely monitor because, you
11:20know, Trey Amos was really good for them last year, dealt with the injury and they do need
11:24to get some guys on the edges.
11:25Um, Thor, I know you're going to be slammed.
11:27Thank you for the time, bro.
11:29Thanks so much, guys.
11:30Appreciate you.
11:31Appreciate you.
11:31All right.
11:31That's our boy, Thor Nystrom.
11:33Give him a follow at Thor KU.
