00:00Plenty of dry, sunny and rather warm weather to come for many of us this week, but the devil is
00:06in the detail, so worth looking at that.
00:08Thank you for joining me for this week's Week Ahead Forecast.
00:11Let's start off looking at the bigger picture currently, and there's high pressure sitting to the north of us,
00:16and it's this that's going to be firmly in control this week, really taking holds on our weather,
00:21which is why it is going to be largely dry, not totally dry.
00:25We did have some showery rain across northern parts on Monday.
00:28That is now starting to clear away, but we will wake up on Tuesday morning with a fair amount of
00:34cloud
00:35across some central southern parts of Scotland, northern England, and across some parts of Northern Ireland.
00:39A few spots of mostly light, drizzly rain, a lot of this breaking up and actually clearing away towards the
00:45west as we go through the day.
00:47So by the afternoon, for many, well, it is going to be dry, and there will be plenty of sunshine
00:52on offer.
00:52Some cloud here and there across some parts of Wales, southern England.
00:56And also some high-level cloud, turning the sunshine a bit hazy, perhaps, towards the southwest.
01:01But yes, most places seeing a lot of blue sky.
01:05And with that then, well, temperatures are rising.
01:07Mid-teens for many places feeling a little bit fresher, where you're exposed to that breeze coming in from the
01:13North Sea,
01:14so towards some eastern parts.
01:16But further west, yeah, mid-teens looks quite likely, so feeling pretty warm in the sunshine.
01:20Do need to factor in, as we go through Tuesday, across parts of the southwest, Devon Cornwall, for example,
01:26but also some other southern coastal parts, the winds will be strengthening.
01:29And so we could have some strong, gusty winds.
01:32They'll make it feel cooler.
01:33And yeah, it is going to be particularly breezy indeed.
01:37Later, as we go through Tuesday and into Wednesday, there is this feature towards the southwest of us.
01:42That's going to get ever so closer towards us, so there is a front pushing its way in.
01:47So we wake up on Wednesday morning with, well, it could be a touch of frost in some places, where
01:52we have the clear skies.
01:53A thicker cloud towards northeastern parts, but a lot of this is going to burn back towards the coast as
01:59we go through the day.
02:00And then towards the southwest, with that front arriving, things are going to turn increasingly cloudy here.
02:05So a thicker cloud arriving, even some outbreaks of rain perhaps for the Isles of Silly, the tip of Cornwall,
02:10likely to see a bit of wet weather here.
02:13Elsewhere, largely dry.
02:15A few spots of rain where the cloud is thick enough towards the northeast, but most of us avoiding these,
02:19having a largely dry day.
02:21Plenty of sunshine away from the far northeast and later on the southwest.
02:25And with that sunshine then, temperatures again rising compared to Tuesday.
02:30We're looking at highs around 17, possibly 18, maybe even 19 Celsius towards the southeast and across some western parts.
02:37If you're stuck under that cloud towards the North Sea, it's going to feel pretty cool, if not cold, really,
02:42with some places struggling in single figures.
02:44And we do still have some strong gusty winds towards the south and the southwest, so there will take the
02:49edge off the temperatures a little bit as well.
02:51We're talking gusts of around 50 miles per hour, maybe a bit stronger over the moors, over parts of Devon
02:56and Cornwall.
02:58Then, through Wednesday night, we still have this low pressure system towards the southwest of us, but that's not really
03:03causing us any issue.
03:04It's the high pressure towards the north that's still firmly in control, and that means we stick with the fine,
03:11settled weather that we're going to have.
03:13Perhaps a bit more cloud, some low cloud, some murkiness first thing on Thursday morning.
03:17But again, most of this is going to burn back once the sun comes up, and so just some northy
03:22coastal parts sticking with low cloud.
03:24Here, most places, though, turning largely fine, largely sunny.
03:28Again, lots of blue sky around for most of us.
03:31And with that and the warm air sticking around for a little bit longer, temperatures day by day are going
03:36to be rising,
03:37so more likely to get into the very high teens, perhaps even low 20s for some parts towards the south
03:43and towards the west.
03:44Still always feeling that bit colder towards those northy coastal parts down the eastern side.
03:49That breeze coming in and a bit more cloud lingering in some places, keeping temperatures pegged back a fair amount.
03:56Towards the south-southwest, where it's been quite windy, quite blustery through Tuesday and Wednesday, the winds will be easing.
04:02Not totally light, not totally calm, but it's not going to be as blustery as it will have been through
04:07the preceding few days.
04:09And then high pressure stays in control as we go into Friday, so again, it is going to be largely
04:15fine with all the nights through this week,
04:17where we get clear skies, there could be a few pockets of mist and fog developing, and also a touch
04:22of frost in prone spots.
04:23And that's a similar picture on Friday, so yes, it could be a bit of a chilly start,
04:26but I'm actually expecting a little bit less low cloud around on Friday towards eastern parts compared to some of
04:32the earlier days in the week.
04:34Nonetheless, it is still going to be a bit cool for some towards those eastern coastal parts.
04:39Aberdeenshire, for example, may only stay in single figures, perhaps in some parts towards Aberdeen itself,
04:45just about getting to highs of around 11 or 12.
04:48But then further west, and yeah, temperatures again, very high teens or low 20s for some places,
04:53so pretty warm for this stage in the year, and that's because there will be plenty of sunshine
04:59and the winds easing down a little bit still.
05:01Always through this week, worth bearing in mind, there will be some pretty high levels of tree pollen
05:05that could cause some problems, and also some high levels of UV, particularly on Thursday.
05:10Do take precautions if you're going to be out in the sun for only a long period of time.
05:15Into the weekend, and there is likely to be a front coming in from the west,
05:19so western areas could see a bit more cloud, could be some showery rain,
05:23could be a few spots of rain towards the northeast,
05:25but then the high pressure is set to build back in as we go through the latter stages of the
05:29weekend.
05:30So whilst, yes, Saturday could bring some showers, perhaps a few spots of rain here and there,
05:35for many it's going to be dry, and if anything, Sunday looks even drier and even calmer
05:39with plenty of sunshine and feeling pretty warm again in that sunshine as well.
05:45That's fairly welcome news, the calm and largely dry weather forecast for this weekend
05:50if you're taking part in the London Marathon, which is on Sunday.
05:53If you are, very good luck to you.
05:55We will, of course, be updating you with the forecast as we get nearer the time,
