00:00You mentioned it about developing today's quarterbacks.
00:03He said technology is hurting the development of the quarterbacks by, you know, they have those earpieces.
00:08They had those earpieces.
00:09And he said, when I got to the line of scrimmage, I had to dissect a defense and I had
00:15to find my landmarks.
00:16I had to find my pre-snap reads.
00:18He said it was for me to go to the line of scrimmage.
00:21And Marty was in my ear telling me, you have to figure it out.
00:25Well, technology today, Joe, you know, you're telling the quarterback where to go with the ball.
00:30Do you think technology and those earpieces again when it comes to the development of the quarterbacks is hurt the
00:36game?
00:36Because you guys had to rip defenses apart by your knowledge.
00:41I don't think it's hurt the game, Dan.
00:43I think it's hurt the development of a quarterback.
00:45And I do believe in Marty completely because those communicators get cut off with 15 seconds to go.
00:52They ought to move that up to cut him off at 20 seconds.
00:55Cut the coaches off at 20 seconds.
00:57Give me a chance in the huddle to look at an Art Monk or to look at a Gary Clark
01:02and say, Larry, listen, if the guy sits on you on this route, just take it up past him.
01:07The quarterback cannot communicate with anybody in the huddle to have a conversation to set up a play.
01:14Now it's just it's regurgitating what the coaches said.
01:18A lot of times now, certain people like John Gruden was very smart.
01:21He would just you'd have a plea sheet on your wrist.
01:24He'd say, number one.
01:26OK, then you then you're able to be able to that way the communicator makes sense.
01:30But I agree with Bernie.
01:31The development of the quarterback position is getting worse and worse and worse because you don't see live action.
01:37You don't get game time experience.
01:40And you're going to have to develop in a slower way.
01:43And to me, if you don't have the people around you, it's going to be a tough road to be
01:47able to play the game the way it should be played by the quarterback.
01:51Do you agree, Joe, that the development of the quarterback and also the development of what you just said with
01:57practice time with the O-line, how are you going to develop these offenses when you don't have enough practice
02:03time?
02:04Hey, developing a offensive lineman, Joe, and a left tackle, that's a lot more difficult than what people think when
02:11it comes to developing a defensive tackle.
02:14So it's the limited time in practice.
02:16How do you overcome that?
02:18Well, you know, Dan, it is difficult.
02:21The only way you overcome it is you have to reconcile yourself to the fact that the first two regular
02:27season, possibly first three regular season football games are preseason games.
02:33From a conditioning standpoint, from a physical standpoint, from a developmental standpoint for the players as well as the quarterback.
02:41But that's what you're going to see.
02:42That's why you see the ball on the ground so much.
02:45That's why the mistakes are made so early.
02:47Because you never get a chance to make a mistake in preseason.
02:51Plus, the other thing is, you know, I mean, I played in a game when there were six preseason games.
02:55Do I recommend it?
02:56Absolutely not.
02:57I played when there were four.
02:59Four was a good number where coaches could evaluate a player.
03:03If you're a free agent trying to make a football team now, every play in practice is so vitally important
03:09to your ability to make the football team.
03:12Every play is so important.
03:15Every thought, every time you line up, every time you try and catch a ball, the pressure is immense because
03:22you don't have the time to make a mistake or learn.
03:27Joe Theismann played in an era, folks, where you had three-a-days.
03:30I was a little bit involved with those three-a-days back then.
03:34So I think it's just right.
03:35Joe played in the era where you had six exhibition games and you had three-a-days back in the
03:42day.
03:42So, again, we'll continue more with our friend Joe Theismann.
03:45Real quick, Joe, 30 seconds here, though.
03:48Jaden Daniels, his ceiling.
03:51What do you think of his ceiling?
03:53I'm excited for him.
03:54I think he's going to have a great comeback here.
03:56The offense is going to be a little bit more protective of him, and I think he's going to really,
04:00really do well.
04:01All right, guys.
04:01Please do.
