00:00so big nfl news uh that a lot of people seem to have an interest in and that is a
00:05replacement
00:06refs so the the contract the nfl has right now with the union that represents nfl officials
00:13uh that that deal's coming to an end and they're they're haggling over like a minuscule amount of
00:19money so the nfl offered these uh referees in a multi-year deal basically a six and a half percent
00:26raise year after year after year and the average ref is already making six figures for what we know
00:31is a part-time job that controls the outcome of billions of dollars of money uh invested in the
00:37product right so the nfl referees came back and said six and a half percent's not enough we want a
00:4310 raise year over year and we want a two and a half million dollar marketing budget now that went
00:50out of quite understand so let's just put that to the side because i truly i'm not well read enough
00:56on it to know what they'd want to do with a two and a half million dollar marketing budget i
01:00just
01:00don't understand why nfl referees need that right but the nfl offered six and a half percent annual
01:07raises like there are referees right now making north of two hundred thousand dollars a year i think the
01:15starting salary is just under two hundred thousand dollars a year these are guys that while i know
01:22they're committed to their craft and they want to get calls right they don't every single year what
01:28do we complain about more than anything else in the nfl officiating we don't know if it's a catch if
01:34it's not a catch we don't like how they spot the ball where they spot the ball we don't like
01:40holding
01:40calls and this call and that call we are more critical of nfl refs than we are of home plate
01:45umpires
01:46in major league baseball right yes and the nfl said we appreciate what you guys do they've always
01:53defended them publicly and now they're offering these guys a six and a half percent raise every
01:59single year of a five-year contract uh to maintain uh some peace between the uh the nfl and the
02:07officials
02:08and the the officials said no we're greedy man we want more now i do not know a single industry
02:16sports included where i can go to my boss and say if you don't give me the guarantee of a
02:2410
02:24raise every single year then i'm holding out because i don't get 10 raises you don't get 10
02:33we all collectively get the old and i love this one when our employers give us this one we're going
02:40to give you a cost of living raise okay how much is that anywhere from two to four percent
02:47yeah excuse me that's right two percent to four percent so let's take a guy making fifty thousand
02:55dollars a year all right a four percent raise on fifty grand is two thousand dollars two thousand
03:04dollars spread over fifty two weeks is how much oh i know i'm good at math forty bucks a week
03:12that's the raise you just got for cost of living and these guys who every one of them has a
03:19second job
03:20a real job monday to friday they fly in on saturday they do the game on sunday they fly home
03:28on sunday
03:29night and they're handsomely paid for it six and a half percent is not enough for them they want ten
03:35percent and they want this mysterious two and a half million dollar marketing fee which again i don't know
03:44what that is tyrone but i know this that the nfl are announced yesterday that they are now going to
03:50pick up the phone and call the unions representing division one referees division two referees and
03:58even division three referees now let me speak to division three for a second because i do know a
04:03little bit about that having a son that played division three college football you do not want
04:10division three referees officiating nfl games these are glorified junior high school gym teachers who do
04:19not do a good job officiating division three football and i watched it with my own two eyes
04:27for the last three years okay division two go ahead division one of course i would think an sec official
04:34could be an nfl official tomorrow a couple rule changes but not hard to figure it out and every now
04:41and then you got to be careful when you try to make a point and get greedy because if you
04:47don't think
04:48the nfl will tomorrow hire all of your replacements then you don't know the nfl
04:55you
