00:10the news that apparently a lot of people knew but nobody broke the news which is a little strange
00:15but it was a story that reuben bain of course uh star miami hurricanes pass rusher everybody thinks
00:24is i mean at the worst going to be a top 15 pick but i think he's probably going to

00:3010 at the worst you would think good things don't happen to the dolphins but there's a story
00:36uh that he broke yesterday that reuben bain was involved in a fatal traffic collision in miami
00:44march of 2024 so this was going into his sophomore season after which was probably his worst college
00:50season a lot of a lot of injuries that year but maybe this had something to do with it as
00:54well
00:55um but this is just from the article according to records and reports reviewed by the read optional
01:01the incident had not previously been reported uh bain then a sophomore at the university of miami
01:08was driving on i-95 in miami 4 a.m on the 17th of march 2024 when his vehicle struck
01:15another before
01:17careering into concrete barriers on both sides of the highway according to police crash records reviewed
01:22by the read optional one of the four passengers in his uh in bain's car was destiny betts a 22
01:27year
01:27old college student from georgia who was visiting miami for a spring break he she uh suffered
01:33incapacitating injuries and was rushed to rider trauma center on the scene never regained consciousness
01:37she died on june 13 2024 after spending three months in a coma uh second passenger was hospitalized
01:44with injuries two others were miami uh miami hurricanes players including wesley the saint
01:49um both teammates of bain at miami at the time both eligible for the nfl draft in 2026
01:55the police crash report states that bain operated his vehicle in a careless or negligent manner
02:02following the collision with a second vehicle bain's car owned by a company of miami sports 27 inc
02:07struck the east concrete wall before being redirected into the wall uh the west concrete wall when it
02:13came to arrest it was later told uh sustaining disabling damage no field sobriety test was
02:18administered at the scene bain was cited for careless driving that charge was dismissed approximately
02:24two weeks before betts died as she remained in a coma um so it goes on to say that there
02:29was a uh
02:30you know she was there was a gofundme for her league sources say that they are aware of the incident
02:35and continue to investigate it remains unclear if it will affect his draft position quote uh it feels like
02:41it could be a laramie tunsel situation all over again a league source told the read optional it
02:45doesn't feel like he has been transparent with us we are concerned about the multiple incidents
02:49another team executive said uh bain also had a careless driving in 2025 that was uh that that
02:56citation was also uh dismissed so this story comes out obviously it's kind of like the first thing
03:03that's uh been a red flag that's been put on room main that's i guess character wise outside of his
03:09uh
03:10outside of his short arms it's like the only other thing on him that this article did reach out to

03:17family and this should be put out the read optional reached out and uh this is what destiny's family
03:23said to this author it said as her family remained deeply committed to honoring the memory in a meaningful
03:28and appropriate way destiny's passing was a result of a tragic accident that occurred several years ago
03:34while the loss remains incredibly painful for our family we have worked hard to find peace and move
03:39forward at this time we are not seeking public attention surrounding this tragedy and respectfully
03:45request that our family's privacy be honored we also wish mr bain the best as he continues his life
03:49and career see that's nice that's that is a family that definitely it's great it's crazy how these
04:00stories come out now you know right when he's about to get drafted when the canes were doing well and
04:06there was the early talk of heisman talk you know for him there was no mention of this story it's
04:11always
04:12right when somebody's on the precipice of accomplishing a big feat that this story comes out this is
04:19unfortunate and you know thoughts and prayers to that with that family yeah you know lives were lost
04:24so you know it's it's a very unfortunate it's unbelievably yeah it's an unbelievably sad thing
04:29that happened to this family and this woman and it's i'm sure a a very tragic thing than a scary

04:35that you know reuben bain apparently went through as well but who's bringing this up at this moment and
04:41if it's there if the family's not the one that's bringing this up or mentioning this why would
04:46somebody want to like like look at yourself in the mirror sometimes like don't you have any
04:49like respect like why would you want to bring this up this is a this could be what if the
04:55family was
04:55moving on they didn't want to remember this sure they've been trying not to remember this and then
04:59all of a sudden now this gets public traction a national traction now it's out in the public again
05:05well the thing that's interesting the thing that's uh interesting about this is like yeah it would feel
05:09like when this person who does who's quoted in this article an executive who says well we don't feel like
05:13he's been transparent it's almost a laramie tons is like well do they want reuben bain to drop like
05:18is that why this is out there because you know then the follow-up then thereafter is the other
05:23reports are there's apparently a lawsuit around this that was settled years ago now i don't know if
05:29that's an insurance company i don't know maybe more details will come out but i don't know if that's
05:33an insurance company i don't know if that was reuben bain i don't know if it's uh anybody representing
05:38reuben bain or what settled it i don't know if it's i don't even know if it's settled with the
05:41family or if it's with the vehicle that he hit i don't know um but look situations like this are
05:49awful should it you know ruin reuben bain's career if he wasn't charged with anything if he wasn't
05:55you know even given a sobriety test that was there if there wasn't anything like look driving at 4 a

06:02i know everybody jumps to the conclusions that hey something must have been amiss here we don't know
06:08i mean listen i've you know you've driven on i-95 before there's been some some crazy things i don't
06:14know if somebody could have been on their phone i don't know what the reasons are um but it's just
06:19unbelievable yeah just you you hear like something like this like man that's just unbelievably awful
06:24that he went through something like this um but look i'm gonna be transparent with you if you told me
06:31today you know all this does this mean you want your team not to draft him i'm gonna tell you

06:54like the jalen carter situation right where he was alleged he was racing right and he drove out and
06:58he ended up like getting a car ride back to the uh right and he was it wasn't that like

07:03started with reckless driving which i believe is worse than careless maybe i'm sitting here and i'm
07:08justifying it because obviously we have a lot of love for reuben bain um and then you know i can't
07:14deny that there's any part of that because obviously that's probably the number one player that i would
07:17want the miami dolphins to draft but i also don't think that's something that happened two years ago
07:24something that he wasn't charged with anything on and the family seems to be very at peace with
07:30uh and and and okay with him i don't think that's something that is that something that should ruin
07:37his career ruin his life and here's another thing to be we're in nasty times right now where somebody
07:44it might be an agent whose player that they want to go to a particular team or get drafted higher

07:50than reuben bain people might be putting these stories out just to have teams in fan bases start
07:56looking at individuals like oh i don't know if you want to draft this person you know even though we
08:01there are some fan bases that might not mind this that could see this if this was an accident and

08:06don't want to hold one um one situation they don't want to hold that on against a person
08:13and there are others that might so this you haven't heard anything about reuben bain other than the
08:18short arms right and yeah this was happened a couple years ago i bet you've talked to the people
08:24from about reuben bain from that incident from that accident they probably tell you that changed him
08:29and he's a different player or he's just not what they're perceiving uh what the media is perceiving
08:36yeah i mean you're listen you're not not that like again we don't know what happened but again this
08:41is something that happens when he's what 18 19 years old right you know you're gonna be in the midst

08:47you're gonna be in the midst of of growing up um hell listen if he was the one that was

08:53know again i don't want to you know speculate but like if he was the underage one and there were

08:57who were over 20 in the car maybe he was the one who was designated driving that night and you

09:03something didn't happen and you know the accident happened i don't know and it would be foolish of me
09:08to just speculate on what happened all i know is it sounds like reuben may went through something
09:12really heartbreaking the fan uh that a heartbreaking incident that obviously somebody lost their life
09:18and that there's there's no coming back from that there's no coming back from that is it something
09:24though that should take him out of the first round it should ruin his nfl career i don't know man

09:38i don't think but it does feel nefarious like it feels like oh because here's the other thing so
09:44everybody comes then out there afterwards and they're like oh yeah all the teams knew about this
09:48everybody seemed to know this was around reuben bain but it's only being reported now which means
09:54somebody feels like they wanted him to drop right that's what i'm saying because it's everything to me
09:59is always timing the same way with laramie tunsel like you the the stuff all the way to like what

10:05hours right before he's about to get drafted the day of you having these players still going to
10:11teams meeting many teams doing last minute interviews there you get around the execs you
10:18talk to other agents you probably starting to get a gauge of where certain players might be drafted
10:23and if you i would think as if you look at the film reuben bain's film jumps out at you
10:30so
10:31they might be a person or a team that's interested in taking reuben bain high that another agent might
10:39want their player to be go to that situation or might want to be drafted there so yeah i think
10:44there's a lot of like you know trickery going on in the back in um in the back in the
10:48background but
10:49it's just interesting that literally two weeks no not even two weeks we're literally what 11 days like
10:5610 days away 10 days and then this comes out like this didn't come out during the national
11:01championship this thing come out during the postseason didn't come out before it didn't
11:05come out in his college career that's it had to come out at all in his college career didn't come
11:08out during his college career which yeah it's surprising but the thing is is you know there was
11:15a citation that was dropped wasn't even charged with anything right like they i mean that's the other
11:20thing you're talking about two years that you would you would have hoped it went through the proper
11:24channels of being investigated everything looked upon and if they found him they deemed them not
11:29to be um any more than a you know the ticket that they gave him that he didn't do anything

11:36then you got to accept that and the other thing is the other family the family of the victim has
11:42accepted this right and we don't know we know apparently it's reported there was a lawsuit
11:47we don't know who they sued we don't know we don't know who sued we don't know if that family
11:51got a settlement we don't know if that's somebody else we don't know if that was through an insurance
11:56company we don't know it's just reported on that so it's a lot of murkiness uh around it it's an
12:03it's i just say like it's it's an unfortunate thing i'm finding the timing of it pretty curious
12:09if you told me today hey you know this the dolphin still draft i don't think this is something
12:17that i want that would deter me from john eric sullivan drafting the guy because it happened
12:22a couple of years ago and you know people are saying well this one we don't think he's been
12:27transparent well okay is he the only one because everybody else seems to think that they know about
12:31this um it just wasn't out there for the public to know and and look these draft candidates they do
12:40everything on them to try and find everything about them so i don't know
