In a shocking development in the murder of student Divyanshu Jatrana, police in Dehradun paraded two arrested accused in public and made them apologise before students.

The incident falls under the Premnagar police station area, where Divyanshu Jatrana was fatally injured during a clash between two student groups on March 23 in Kehri village. He later died during treatment at a hospital.

Following a complaint by the victim’s family, police registered a case and initially arrested four accused — Yuvraj Kumar, Madhur Khandelwal, Shivam Sharma, and Ankit Bhardwaj — who were sent to jail.

During further investigation, seven more accused were identified. As some of them remained absconding, the SSP announced a reward of ₹25,000 each for their arrest.

Acting on inputs, police teams tracked and arrested two key accused, Prahlad Raj and Ankur Singh, from Bangmundi in West Bengal on April 9. They were produced in court and brought to Dehradun on transit remand.

On April 11, Premnagar police, led by Station House Officer Naresh Rathore, paraded the accused barefoot and in handcuffs in the area. During the procession, they were stopped in front of students and made to apologise.

Police stated that strict action would be taken against those involved in such crimes and that the accused were also taken to the crime scene as part of the investigation.
