KANPUR: In a unique punishment, the Kanpur Police on Saturday arrested and publicly shamed a man who molested and assaulted a minor girl. The accused, identified as Yash, was apprehended near his residence in Saket Nagar for the September 8th incident in Kidwai Nagar.
According to reports, the Class 11 student was returning from her coaching centre when Yash, accompanied by 8-10 friends, stopped her, held her hand, and tried to force her to walk with him. When she protested, he slapped her three times and spat on her. When other students from the coaching centre intervened, they were also beaten by Yash's group.
The victim's mother, a widow and resident of Juhi Colony, filed a police complaint on Friday. She stated that Yash had been harassing her daughter for the past three years.
After his arrest, the accused begged for forgiveness, reportedly telling police, "Sir, forgive me, from today I will consider every girl as my mother and sister." In response, the police made him wear a placard with the same apology written on it. He was then paraded around the police station premises with folded hands and was seen limping during the act.
DCP Dipendra Nath Chaudhary confirmed the arrest and stated that a video of this unusual punishment was made to "teach him a lesson." A case has been registered against the accused.
