In a chilling case from Akola, police have arrested three accused, including the husband, in the brutal murder of a woman whose half-burnt body was found near the Annapurna Mata Temple.

The deceased has been identified as Ravina Pawar, who had delivered a baby just days before the incident. Her husband, Sadiq Shah Tashreef Shah, along with his mother Nurabi Shah and brother-in-law Irfan Shah, have been taken into custody.

The case came to light on Monday after police recovered a partially burnt body within the jurisdiction of Dabki Road police station. The victim’s face was severely charred, making identification difficult initially. Her identity was later confirmed through police outreach and investigation.

During the probe, the husband appeared before police and confessed to the crime. According to investigators, the couple, who had a love marriage, were frequently involved in disputes. On the night of the incident, an argument allegedly escalated, following which Sadiq strangled Ravina to death.

Police said the accused, along with family members, then hatched a plan to dispose of the body and destroy evidence. The body was dumped near the temple, and petrol was allegedly poured on the face before setting it on fire to prevent identification.

CCTV footage and technical evidence helped police trace the accused, who had taken shelter at a relative’s house.

Sudarshan Patil stated that the accused have been remanded to police custody till April 13, and the investigation is ongoing to establish the full motive.

In a tragic development, the victim’s newborn infant, just a few days old, is currently under medical care. Authorities have initiated steps through the Child Welfare Committee to ensure the child’s protection and care.
