A disturbing incident has been reported from Mandya district, where a young man was allegedly assaulted by toll plaza staff following a dispute over FASTag balance.

The victim, identified as Mahesh, was reportedly attacked at the Gananguru Toll Plaza two days ago while travelling with friends.

According to sources, the incident began when toll officials found insufficient balance in the FASTag account linked to his vehicle. Mahesh reportedly requested time to arrange the payment and attempted to reverse his vehicle while contacting friends for assistance.

However, the situation escalated after toll staff allegedly began verbally abusing him. Eyewitnesses claimed that the employees then seized his mobile phone and physically assaulted him.

Mahesh was reportedly chased, manhandled, and beaten by the staff, with witnesses alleging “goonda-like” behaviour at the toll plaza.

A video of the incident, captured on a mobile phone, has since surfaced online and is going viral, triggering strong public outrage.

Authorities have taken cognisance of the matter and stated that an investigation is underway. Commuters have demanded strict action, emphasising that violence over a payment dispute is unacceptable and raises serious concerns over safety on highways.
