A freeze is on the way for the Northeast tonight, but the cold conditions won't stick around long. Bernie Rayno breaks down when warm air will arrive.
Transcript
00:00A widespread freeze Tuesday night in the Wednesday morning across the northeast.
00:04Plants and early blooms are at risk, but this cold snap won't last long.
00:10Much warmer air surges back into the northeast and midwest by the end of the week.
00:16But let's talk about the cold.
00:17High pressure across the midwest will be diving southeast in the wake of a storm later Tuesday and Tuesday night.
00:24And as that high pressure settles across the northeast, clearing skies, there will be light wind and dry air.
00:31Temperatures are going to plummet, in fact, tonight across the northeast.
00:34This will likely be the coldest night until the upcoming fall.
00:39Temperatures in the 20s in most locations and some spots will get into the teens.
00:44Any outdoor plants that are sensitive will suffer the consequences of this freeze.
00:52Now, the cold continues along the eastern seaboard on Wednesday as high pressure builds eastward.
00:58But relief will already be felt in cities like Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland.
01:02And then by the end of the week, once this high pressure leaves, all the warm air that's been building
01:08across Texas is going to come northeastward pretty quickly.
01:12Take a look how temperatures change.
01:14Let's start in Washington, D.C.
01:15We go from Wednesday feeling like mid-March to Friday feeling like mid-May.
01:23Same story in Boston, a sharp incline as we head toward the end of the week.
