00:00What makes Love appealing to me, though, you can use him as a hybrid player.
00:05You can put him in the slot.
00:06He can score from the slot.
00:09He can score from the backfield.
00:10He is an explosive, game-changing type player.
00:14But again, you drafted two running backs last year,
00:16so I don't know that spending your highest draft pick this year
00:23would be the smartest way to go about your roster construction
00:26when you have other needs.
00:27Matt Foreman, assistant GM of the Guardians, is going to join us at 8.40 this morning,
00:31so about 14 minutes away.
00:33First question is going to be about Travis Bazzana.
00:35Next couple of questions, obviously, going to be about these young guys
00:37and obviously Chase DeLauder.
00:38Matt Foreman, 8.40 this morning.
00:40What you just heard was Darryl with us just moments ago talking about Jeremiah Love.
00:45In the classic sense to me, it would be poor roster construction.
00:49Darryl is right.
00:50However, I need talent on the offensive side of the football
00:53because there are people going,
00:54Well, Kenny, if you're bringing up how DeJuan Jones suffered
00:58because of the hiring of Andy Dickerson,
01:00couldn't other guys have suffered because of the other people?
01:02And I said to Xavier P. on social media, which is brought to you by?
01:05Shivan Jewelers, Cleveland premier jewelry store.
01:08At 8.27 and 0.7 seconds for those scoring at home,
01:11I have to say that that's a hell of a point.
01:13None of us really like Chad O'Shea, so they should be better.
01:16How much better?
01:17I'm not sure.
01:18These guys aren't wizards.
01:19They're hopefully going to be good football coaches for this team.
01:22But in a classic sense, it would be poor roster construction.
01:28But I can still put both guys on the field.
01:31I can find a way to have Quinshawn Judkins and Jeremiah Love on the field.
01:36And I think they're going to try to trade down.
01:38I think everybody thinks they're going to try to trade down.
01:40Majority of Browns fans, they might not like it,
01:43but they predict that they're going to try to trade down.
01:46What if you're one of these other teams, I mean, you only got 10 minutes in real time,
01:50and I know they have conversations before all this,
01:53but they're going, I'm just not going to give up that much to move up there
01:56to go after a guy, like, I'll trade with you,
01:58but you're not going to get what you would get in a good draft.
02:00I'm not going to make this move with you.
02:02And you're going, well, maybe this player is going to be so much better
02:05than all the other ones.
02:06I think running back has become more important here over these last couple of years.
02:10That's important to note.
02:10So, yeah, it would be kind of a tough sell because it's a running back
02:15and you took two last year, but he's still a fabulous player.
02:20I just, I think that they could have way worse ideas than Jeremiah Love.
02:24So, it's interesting.
02:25I'm trying, as I've said throughout the whole process,
02:28to be more open-minded this time around,
02:30but running back for whatever reason is just the place I can't go mentally.
02:36Even if you told me he's guaranteed going to be a good player,
02:41I'm like, well, okay, but that seems like a big-time luxury.
02:46And to put a...
02:47The best running back in the NFL right now,
02:48what if I told you he's going to be B. John Robinson?
02:51Well, okay.
02:51What if I told you he's going to be B. John Robinson?
02:53I mean, he's incredible, but how many wins has he helped the Atlanta Falcons 2?
02:58You still need a quarterback.
02:59You still need a quarterback.
03:00You need offensive line.
03:01You need quarterbacks.
03:01So, that's part of the problem.
03:03He's been the most dynamic player, one of the most top five dynamic players in the NFL.
03:08Are we sure that there's going to be a lineman there that can help us?
03:11Because they went...
03:12You're 100% true.
03:14They went free agency with four-fifths of the offensive line.
03:16So, am I going to take Spencer Fano and stick him over at left tackle?
03:19Because if he was the best left tackle, because he played left tackle before and got replaced there,
03:25if he were the best left tackle for Utah, he'd have just been playing left tackle.
03:29Yeah.
03:30CeCe Malinoa, great player.
03:32Am I just going to draft him and stick him over at left tackle?
03:35All of these offensive linemen have flaws.
03:36And what am I going to do?
03:37Lump has less flaws.
03:38Overdraft a Monroe Freeling?
03:40It's just the position.
03:41And then not have him trot out there in the first series of the season because he's not ready?
03:44Part of me thinks it's two-pronged.
03:46If they were to take him at six overall...
03:49Love or who?
03:50Love.
03:50Okay.
03:50What does that tell me about Judkins?
03:52Does that mean they are very worried about Judkins, and so now last year's second-round pick is already doomed?
03:57No, I don't think it has to say that.
03:59Okay, but that I'm just saying.
03:59I don't think it has to say that.
04:01Is that part of the math?
04:02Also, when you, on a bad football team, and I hate to say it,
04:07I know you're taking him because you think he'll help the bad football team become a good football team,
04:11but when you have a running back on a bad football team with the carries, the wear and tear, the
04:17hits,
04:18we know that running backs are really only, for the most part, they all can't be Adrian Peterson,
04:25but for the most part, four years.
04:27You get four years of guys, and what, you're wasting one of them on this team?
04:32Well, I got one year out of Trent Richardson before.
04:34Terrible, terrible reference.
04:35I know.
04:35He did have a good year.
04:36People cannot deny.
04:38He did have a good rookie year.
04:39We got the only good year out of him.
04:40We did.
04:40That's 100% true.
04:41And then, when Joe Banner pulled off that trade, that's the only good move that Joe Banner made.
04:45I'm not giving him any credit.
04:46But all I'm saying is, it's tough to subject.
04:50Jim Arce pulled off that trade.
04:51Rest in peace.
04:52We even saw last year the toll of playing on a bad team for a rookie running back.
04:58We saw that with Judkins.
04:59And it ultimately led to him being taken out on a stretcher.
05:01But say I take Jerry.
05:02Okay.
05:03Well, that was a throw out of the backfield.
05:04I know.
05:05So, let me throw this at you.
05:06Yeah, you got two running backs back there.
05:08So, I got Quinchon Judkins.
05:09I got him.
05:10Now, last year, your problem was, is that anytime number 10 was in the backfield,
05:13out of a single back, people basically knew that number 10 was going to be getting the ball.
05:16So, you were up against a lot of loaded boxes.
05:18You had eight, nine in the box there.
05:20Well, if I got two back there, I made a joke to somebody else earlier this week.
05:23I said, I think we might see the first 11 man in the box since the 1920s.
05:27Well, you could put a guy.
05:28Now, I'm starting to call him B. John Robinson.
05:30You take Jeremiah Love.
05:31You split him out.
05:32You send him in motion.
05:33Maybe he lines up in a loaded up Y.
05:35And all of a sudden, you're spreading out your offense.
05:37And you don't even have to throw out of that offense.
05:39I could turn around and hand it off to Quinchon Judkins.
05:41And then I got an unbounce looked over on the left or right side.
05:43And maybe I can get a few yards.
05:44And I can keep everybody honest.
05:46So, then I can throw out of that set if I want to do it again.
05:49Like, he gives you options.
05:51And I don't want to.
05:53Like, he was not my first thought.
05:55He was not my first thought.
05:56Like, I didn't do barely anything on him other than the writing.
06:00Just because I figured they weren't going to take him.
06:04But now, as more time goes by.
06:06And we're getting more guys who you are trying to fit round pegs and square holes here.
06:13Well, hell, Tone.
06:15If you can't get anybody to trade up with you, that's going to give you anything good.
06:20And you're kind of stuck.
06:22Sorry, I know what they took last year.
06:24But this is still a hell of a football player.
06:25You could come away with a hell of a lot worse.
06:27And if you're trying to draft for need because it's the Browns, I'm going to assume you're going to come
06:32away with something worse here.
06:33So, you might just be stuck.
06:35It's going to be a tough sell.
06:36But I'm going to have to remember all this stuff if they actually do.
06:39Because I'm going to assume that if they can't move out of six, if Love's still on the board.
06:44Like, say Carnell Tate's off.
06:45Say Carnell Tate's taken away.
06:46Like, he would be the easy pick.
06:48Granted.
06:49I should have said that earlier.
06:50Six overall.
06:51Tate's still there.
06:52Love's still there.
06:52Fish in a barrel.
06:53You'd probably take Tate, right?
06:55Wide receiver.
06:56You need wide receiver help.
06:57Heard the Carr brothers talking about it.
06:58That's fair.
06:59But if Tate's already off the board, you could find yourself in a situation going, hey, if no one's going
07:06to move up with me,
07:08I'm just going to assume if they just take Jeremiah Love, I think that they like him and they could
07:12be happy with him.
07:14But I would also say, yeah, no one's going to be moving up and giving you all the stuff that
07:18you want or that you deserve out of that pick in a normal year.
07:21I'm not going to sit there and pout that they got a good football player.
07:24And I do think he's going to be a good football player.
07:25In fact, that's the hard thing about this.
07:27When it came out of your mouth, I did have to think and take a step back.
07:31Like, I kind of feel like he's more of a guarantee than almost any other player in this draft.
07:36Like, think about how crazy that is, what I just said.
07:38And yet, I'm sitting here at number six on a bad football team saying, I don't want the guaranteed good
07:42football player.
07:43But it just has to do with the position that he plays.
07:47And that's just a big part of this sport right now.
07:52And I'm almost more willing to take a risk at an offensive line or even a wide receiver before I
08:00want to take the running back on a bad football team.
08:02Just seems like a luxury.
