00:01Dirt ball reads baby he's running
00:04Bobby swings and misses and Mike
00:06Cal is going to be in there with
00:08a stolen base good time to run
00:12David Hollins on the same page.
00:14You figure with Bobby with junior
00:15there if it's going to be a
00:16fastball you really do trust him
00:17to make contact the barrel it
00:19sale made a great pitch at 97 at
00:20the top of the zone but typically
00:22you're going to think he's going
00:23to go with that sweeping slider
00:24down and if he throws that that's
00:26a good pitch for Mike Cal to run
00:27on good slide here stay on the
00:35base that's a good sign too if
00:37he tweaked something when he
00:39stumbled into the dugout after
00:41the first inning not only did he
00:43return to his position but now
00:45he's stolen a base it's a great
00:47point great point right maybe a
00:48little sell to maybe the dugout
00:50notice something was going on
00:51sell it a little bit and all of
00:52a sudden take off get you a
00:53freestyle base Lane Thomas with a
00:59runner at second base Royals have
01:02already had a couple of pitches
01:03tonight that could have been a
01:07B.S. challenges and one of
01:10those was Thomas taking a called
01:13third strike in the first inning
01:14where the Royals elected not to
01:17challenge
01:22Lane's a better man than me right
01:24because I was up here tapping
01:25my head do it late do it but man
01:27that's situation right there two
01:29outs nobody on that was a smart
01:30no challenge by Lane but I'm
01:32sure he went back to the iPad
01:33and said man I wish I would tap
01:34my helmet on that but it's all
01:36right big knock here will make
01:42up for it good take three balls one
01:44strike and now sales at 50
01:46pitches continue to work and put
01:49pressure we saw Mike Hill on the
01:51defensive side check his card for
01:52defensive alignment where to be
01:54on the infield you see now the
01:56shortstop he's trying to get
01:57range on the left side you see
01:58Ozzie is almost kind of holding
02:00on Mike Hill Garcia just to make
02:02sure he doesn't get too big of a
02:03secondary because we need him
02:05score on a bloop right now again
02:06big game atmosphere ace versus
02:08ace got to take advantage of
02:10every opportunity
02:14fouled away and now three and two
02:16and that was 97 miles an hour
02:18from sale good aggressive swing
02:21from Lane I got 3 1 with the
02:22open base with Salvador Perez on
02:24deck I know Chris sales going to
02:26give you something to hit right
02:26there again it's 97 at the top
02:28of the zone it's an elite heater
02:30but Lane had the right right plan
02:32right approach on that swing
02:38and that is down and how about
02:41that take phenomenal take after a
02:4497 fastball at the top of the
02:45zone starts in the same spot at
02:47Chris sales devastating angle
02:50ball sweeps across the whole
02:51plate look at this take right
02:52here for Lane Thomas well we've
02:54said this since the first inning
02:55that the Royals don't have a run
02:58but they have two hits they have
03:00four walks so they are seeing the
03:03ball out of his hand yes and
03:05again Chris sale one of the best
03:06starters in the game the glaciers
03:08and Suarez are at the back end of
03:09that bullpen but the you continue
03:11to work the pitches you continue to
03:12get that pitch count up you're going
03:14to have someone that's going to
03:14have to come out of that bullpen and
03:16get some quality outs in the late
03:17innings and now Salvi hits it to left and
03:19that is going to be a dive and a tumbling
03:21catch by Eli White
03:32nice swing by Salvi kind of a all out do or
03:35die situation Eli White nice play
03:37hang with him boys keep putting the
03:38pressure on
03:40ball reagan's doesn't just share a
03:43first name of Cole Hamels this is a
03:45pitcher that he studied this is why
03:47I'm telling you Ryan forgive me if I
03:49call him Cole Hamels because look how
03:50smooth and similar this motion are
03:53these motion this motion is the ball's
03:55coming straight over the top and
03:56everything out of the hand looks the
03:58same is it going to be that explosion
03:59of a fastball at 97 miles an hour is
04:01going to be the change up that falls
04:02off the table everything's super
04:04smooth nice and easy out of hand and I
04:08mean that is a spitting image of
04:09Cole Hamels if I've ever seen him
04:11right
04:16and in a an abbreviated season which is
04:2013 starts last year he had a huge
04:23strikeout percentage that's 98
04:25strikeouts in 61 innings he has struck
04:29out three tonight all three came in the
04:32second inning and if we bring back
04:35these fancy numbers Ryan I know
04:37Chris Sale we've been talking about
04:38his slider and how that with
04:40percentage is elite guys can't hit
04:42it Cole Reagan's has a change up
04:44that has a higher with percentage
04:46of Chris Sale slider so that tells
04:47you how elite that pitch is for a
04:49put away pitch Drake Baldwin
04:53grounded out to short in the first
04:55inning now in theory you've been
05:00talking all night about how
05:01deceptive Chris Sale is with the
05:03arm angles in theory Cole Reagan's
05:05has a really nice easy delivery
05:07he has very simple mechanics
05:10clearly there's some deception in
05:12there but that probably speaks
05:13more to his stuff as well because
05:15he's not coming in sidearm or
05:17three quarters or doing anything
05:18funky on the mound every hitting
05:20coach will tell you just focus on
05:21the release point a lot of guys
05:23have crazy motions not Cole it's
05:24nice and smooth but where is that
05:26release point I want my eyes set on
05:28his release point we mentioned
05:30Chris Sale has that angle it's
05:31coming towards first Cole Reagan's
05:33is straight over the top and that
05:34creates that fastball at the top
05:36of the zone it's almost look like
05:37it's rising to the hitter you've
05:39got to get on top of it so if I'm
05:41trying to get on top for a 97
05:42mile an hour fastball I got to hit
05:44it way out in front and then we
05:45mentioned his change up how elite
05:47and how devastating of a put away
05:48pitch that is that's what makes
05:50that north south top of that is
05:52ripped to right field and that is
05:54going to hit the top of the wall
05:56and it's gone
06:00Drake Baldwin last year's
06:01National League rookie of the year
06:04homers in his second at bat of the
06:06season
06:17fastball down and in Drake Baldwin
06:18showing everybody why he was the
06:20rookie of the year last year it's a
06:21good spot 93 miles an hour at the
06:23bottom of the zone short porch 325
06:25here at Truist ballpark but when
06:27you hit a ball 110 mile an hour
06:29it's going to get out quick and that
06:30ball did just stretch right outside
06:32the stadium there for home now
06:35Albies homered in the first inning
06:38on a changeup and he hooked it just
06:40inside the left field foul pole
06:50Albies slams it into center field
06:54so he is two for two
06:59looks like another change up to just
07:01catches too much plate didn't leave
07:03it up as bad as the homer maybe did
07:05leave it up a little bit but again you
07:07see that ball in the box there the
07:09strike zone box just catching way
07:10too much plate you want to see that
07:12ball on the line on the corner
07:13whether it's down or away but when
07:16you miss these big league hitters
07:17that make you pay for it luckily it
07:18was only a single
07:24and here's Matt Olsen I think that's
07:27a sign too of Albies seeing Reagan's
07:31hitter as well because he's gotten
07:32two change ups at eighty four one he
07:35pulled into the corner that one
07:37probably wasn't down like he wanted
07:38to but it was fading away he didn't
07:40try and pull it yeah good swing to
07:42the opposite field there tells you
07:43he was on it solid out of hand the
07:45home run he caught it out front
07:47tells you he's fooled a little bit
07:48but he's still able to catch it out
07:50front and for a homer that when
07:52he saw it had a hand a little
07:53better some good read right there
07:55Ryan
08:00Matt Olsen grounded a single into
08:02right field his first time up he
08:07will strike out but man this guy
08:09gets those long arms extended he
08:12can hit the ball a long way from
08:14foul pole to foul pole and that's
08:16what's hard about being a starting
08:17pitcher you fall behind 2 0 you
08:19know Matt Olsen is swinging like
08:20it's the best heater coming at you
08:21green light right did a good job
08:24locating up and in there the whole
08:26goal right now Ryan I know it's 2-1
08:28count but you're trying to get
08:29something in on Matt's hands Matt
08:30Olsen to get a ground ball double
08:31play we've seen it happen to us a
08:33couple times so let's be on the
08:34other end of that here and get some
08:36momentum going back our way Albies is
08:39running and Salvi down to second and
08:42he's got it and Salvador Perez who
08:45led the major leagues last year and
08:48caught stealing percentage is one for
08:50one to begin the year let's go Nino
08:52that's what I'm talking about Salvi
08:53it's been a weird night so far
08:55there's been a lot of weird stuff
08:56happening play like that can
08:57change that momentum that's why
08:59he's the captain right here let's
09:00see what he's got I'll see Albies
09:02get a little shuffle looks like
09:03he was time to pull up a little
09:04bit try to get an early jump
09:06Salvi's all over it great throw
09:08great tag Bobby with you here and
09:13Reagan's does his part coming back
09:14from 2 and 0 and strikes out
09:16Olsen the Royals last year had a
09:19good year defensively and we
09:21shouldn't overlook the combination
09:23of the pitchers paying attention to
09:26the runners and Salvi and Freddie
09:28Fermin and Carter Jensen Luke
09:30Mailey throw him in there the
09:32Royals allowed 31 fewer stolen
09:36bases than anybody else in the
09:38major leagues and just look at the
09:41outcome of this ending so far with
09:43two outs that's a huge play Cole
09:45had a 2 0 count to Matt Olsen with
09:46the guy on first nobody out all
09:48of a sudden try and run on Salvi
09:50with that 2 1 count he guns you
09:51down now we've got two outs nobody
09:52on let's get out of this hook foul
09:57and individually for Salvi he
10:00threw out forty four percent
10:05you see the gold on the chest
10:07protector right there he's got it
10:08for a reason multiple of two
10:13outside on Riley two balls in one
10:15strike he took a walk in the first
10:17inning
10:29and the center field to the clock
10:31stealing is huge
10:33that's a run if Albie swiped second
10:36base
10:36instead it's a two out single for
10:39Riley that Cole looks like he's
10:41trying to get a feel for the
10:42change of Riley's fooled on this
10:44one because he gets it way out in
10:45front loops in there for a single
10:47catches a lot of play but I see
10:49Cole making the adjustment right
10:50there he's trying to get a feel for
10:51the change of it's getting lower
10:52and lower still caught a little bit
10:53too much play but I see making the
10:55adjustment out there Cole
10:56Reagan's trying to find a way to
10:57get comfortable settling out there
10:59at 60 pitches but again we got two
11:01outs let's get this guy out right
11:02here at the plate
11:07going one on Eli White who is
11:10perhaps Cole's biggest out tonight
11:13Reagan's in the bottom of the
11:15first got two outs on three
11:16pitches but then he gave up a
11:17home run a single and a walk and
11:20the Braves were poised for more
11:22offense but Cole made a good
11:24pitch in on White and grounded out
11:26to third holding the Braves to
11:28just that one run
11:30another good pitch oh that
11:31change up that's the change up
11:33Cole's been trying to throw there
11:34all night starts middle zone just
11:36falls off the table all the way
11:42by White and now Haas we begin to
11:45be concerned a bit with Cole
11:47Reagan's pitch count as he is
11:49averaging 20 over 20 per inning
11:53that's the benefit on the
11:54offensive side of swinging at
11:55good pitches not swinging at
11:57pitchers pitches you continue to
11:58work that pitch count up close is
12:00trying to find a comfort zone out
12:01there like we said like we've
12:03mentioned you can tell he was
12:04trying to get comfortable with
12:05the change up the one he just
12:06threw to Eli White oh was the
12:08one he was looking for right
12:10there but yeah typically you
12:11don't want to see 63 pitches
12:13right here in the bottom of the
12:15third and it's one and two so
12:22that means White becomes another
12:25potential big out for Cole from a
12:28pitch count perspective it's
12:33looking like we're gonna get a
12:34chance to see what both bullpens
12:35are made of here I immediately
12:37think of the offensive side for
12:39the Kansas City Royals and a guy
12:40like Jack Kags Caglio that is I
12:43mean you start thinking of the
12:44back end of this bullpen we've
12:45got a long way to go before we
12:46get there but typically if you're
12:48not in the starting right lineup
12:49right around the fifth inning is
12:50when you start to go under the
12:51tunnel in the cage and start
12:53identifying in the bullpen who
12:54are the guys that might come off
12:55the bench to face and if I'm
12:57thinking of Jack Haglione I'm
12:58thinking of Suarez I'm thinking
13:00of Iglesias if I'm him get him
13:03an iPad and lock in on both those
13:05guys and get ready for the
13:06fastball because you don't know
13:08when that at bat's gonna come
13:09but now's the time to start
13:10getting warmed up for that late
13:11time high leverage situation two
13:18and two on white and he got him
13:25with a good change up so again
13:27Eli White is an important out for
13:28Cole Reagan's as the Braves add
13:30one more on the home run by
13:33Baldwin time for discipline that
13:40delivers brought to you by
13:42Vanguard and the defense for both
13:45teams Chris Sale already has two
13:46ground ball double plays only the
13:48Rangers made fewer errors last
13:51year than the Braves the Royals
13:53were on that list for fewest
13:56errors in the major leagues and
13:59we told you about defensively
14:01last year how the Royals manage
14:03the running game very well they
14:05also were third in the major
14:07leagues and outs above average the
14:10Braves were fifth in defensive run
14:12saved when you get a pitching
14:15staff like we do you don't want to
14:17like the Kansas City Royals do you
14:18want to limit ninety feet as many
14:20times as you give away a free
14:21ninety feet and limit the outs
14:23you don't want to give away any
14:24freebies to these big league
14:26rosters and he took a walk
14:32against Sale back in the second
14:33inning your teams in Kansas City
14:42defense and I wonder in your opinion
14:45how much of that was talent and how
14:48much of that was attitude that we
14:49are going to be a good defensive
14:51team we're going to take that
14:52seriously certainly both and I
14:54think again once you add the team
14:55element into everything that makes
14:57a huge difference when you see
14:59guys checking the cards they're
15:00moving different spots you want to
15:02be moving in sync you almost want
15:03to see the whole entire group move
15:05as one that way you're covering
15:07every possible spot you can on the
15:09field get a look right now at the
15:10Braves infield obviously the
15:12rules are different you can't
15:13shift but you can tell right now
15:14the shortstop playing up the
15:15middle Austin Riley almost seems
15:17like he's playing shortstop but
15:19they're all in sync moving to
15:20that right side as one ouch and
15:27that is not where Jonah Heim
15:29wanted it he was set up down in a
15:30way and that ended up inside on
15:33Vinny Doug Ennings home plate
15:36umpire take one off the knee get
15:37that hand out of there Vinny as
15:40well Vinny's thinking man I got
15:42hit I think in the jersey the
15:44first at bat I don't want to take
15:45another one but I will take the
15:46on base percentage that's for
15:47sure I said a walk he was it was
15:54actually ruled a hit by pitch and
15:58now Vinny pulls it into the
16:00corner and I say ruled because
16:02that's how it goes down in the
16:04box score but I'm not sure
16:05that's what we saw in the replay
16:07as long as he's on first base we
16:08won't question it either way and
16:14now sales getting ready to throw
16:15his sixtieth pitch and again
16:20Haim is set up down in a way
16:22that's out over the plate and
16:23Olsen bobbles that has time to
16:26get it to sail for out number one
16:30so that'll bring up Starling Marte
16:33and let's go to Joel been around the
16:34league a long time but first for us
16:36to get to know him and I I asked him
16:38growing up in the Dominican how old
16:40was he when he started to be a fan of
16:43baseball was it two years old three
16:46years old he said actually no later at
16:48eight eventually Vladimir Guerrero
16:50became his favorite player but he
16:51didn't play a whole lot and then he
16:53was playing once a week and a local
16:55coach in his town said you need to be
16:57out here every day not just on
16:59Saturdays he started to push him and
17:01at 11 or 12 years old that's when
17:03Starling realized maybe I've got a
17:05future here in this sport even as he
17:07watched other guys signing at 16
17:09years old he signed later than that
17:11there was no interest in another
17:12coach finally sat him down had him do
17:15a soft toss drill said all you can do
17:18every single time is hit to the
17:20opposite field that is when things
17:22started to change for him ended up
17:24signing with the Pittsburgh Pirates
17:25made his debut in July of 2012 and he
17:29said to some people and a coach he
17:31said it was in Houston I'm swinging at
17:34my first pitch and I'm gonna hit a home
17:36run and he did and here he is all
17:38these years later nickname for him guys
17:41Tato not Poppo like you Haas oh look
17:43who came in to visit us Joel Goldberg on
17:45site Tato okay I can get that you're a
17:48nickname guy and by the way I didn't hear
17:50whatever bad you said about me because
17:51I was in an elevator I only heard it
17:53be attached Joel it's all I love
17:54Joel be back baby love you back
17:56Joel's been treating me like a rookie
17:57I had to throw a little jab in there
17:58back at him you know I had to right
17:59Ryan I have to let him know right
18:03away you're not going to take that
18:04from him that's right Jonathan India
18:10first time up took a walk getting some
18:14non-competitive pitches from Chris
18:17Sale and now the same here two balls
18:18there's no strikes and he's been
18:20looking hitterish all night hasn't
18:22flinched just looking at his own
18:23one spot good swing two O's the
18:28hitters count there again your
18:29sale grid fastball 95 miles an
18:31hour want to get it going there
18:33especially with two outs you put
18:34the barrel ball gets up going just
18:37at the top of the zone it's got
18:38that ride at the top that makes
18:39it that much harder to hit says
18:41ninety five feels like ninety
18:42seven I'm going to take that
18:48fastball the other way two balls
18:50two strikes and again hard to
18:54time up he's mixing up the angle
18:56and that's why again hitters
18:57coaches will tell you try your
18:58best to pick up on the release
19:00point Chris Sale's got a lot of
19:01moving parts that's flying all
19:03over the place and he'll mix up
19:04that release point so that's why
19:06that two O just fastball you
19:07know you're going to get is a
19:09little harder to time up than a
19:10normal one because of that arm
19:11slot change that is fouled away
19:21both lefties have had pitch count
19:24issues early in the game sale
19:25could use a quick inning as he's
19:28moving up on seventy both
19:33offenses taking good at bats
19:35creating a lot of pressure for
19:36the opposing starting pitchers
19:38and like we mentioned it looks
19:39like it's going to come down to
19:40the bullpens but great pitch over
19:44the inside edge so sale has walked
19:48four and struck out five
19:53it is a beautiful night in
19:56Atlanta right now it is seventy one
19:58degrees two nothing Braves as
20:02Dubon is off balance just enough
20:05and flies out to Lane Thomas
20:09Mauricio Dubon is 0 for 2 first
20:13pitch out with the pitch count
20:14climbing up there around sixty
20:15eight pitches is huge starting
20:18pitchers Cole Reagan's he's
20:19going to understand even if I
20:20don't get out to the start that
20:21I want to the ability to settle
20:23in the ability to still eat up
20:24quality innings there's a lot of
20:26value in that so seeing a lot of
20:28growth right now Paul Reagan's
20:29continue to get these quality
20:31outs quality innings Jonah Haim
20:38takes a high strike he walked in
20:40the second inning one and one on
20:55the second time Ozzie Albies with
20:58two outs in the first inning
20:59Homer inside the left field foul
21:01pole and then Drake Baldwin
21:04Homer just over the brick wall in
21:06right field it accounts for the
21:08only two runs of the game down and
21:13away and Salvi is going to go in
21:15the books asking for the first ABS
21:18challenge in Royals history and
21:20And I'm with him Ryan let's see the results because I was with Salvi I was tapping powered by T
21:26-Mobile and powered by a good decision by Salvi has two challenges remaining one for one great decision by Salvi.
21:34Holding my breath there to find out the results I can't imagine what it's going to feel like in a
21:37big situation.
21:42It's amazing pitch to pitch you watch guys you're trying to settle in to change the momentum of the game
21:47we saw Salvi throw the guy out at second change momentum.
21:49Eli White those change ups that Cole Riggins was throwing him really felt like Cole settled in after those pitches.
21:58A lot of foul ground here off of the line so that's out of play.
22:04Well back with Trader was asked many times during spring training about ABS and how they're going to work on
22:11it in spring training.
22:12He did reveal early on that the plan was that as Haas pointed out earlier that.
22:18For now only the catcher when the Royals are on defense will ask for a challenge.
22:23But then he also said you know we've got to figure out who's good at it.
22:27I mean some guys have a better feel for the strike zone.
22:30And I think too similar to a hitter hitting three you know some guys probably just won't be comfortable asking
22:36for a challenge.
22:37Great point.
22:38Yeah.
22:38This is something that's going to work its way out.
22:41And I mean there were there were guys in spring training that were making really good calls on ABS and
22:49some guys are making really bad calls on ABS.
22:52It must be nice to have a spring training for a team to work on.
22:55It felt like all of our guys were representing us well.
22:57But at the World Baseball Classic didn't really have a chance to work on it as a group.
23:02That's a one-out walk to Heim.
23:06And for Reagans that is his third walk of the night.
23:09And a lot of free base runners.
23:11Chris Sale has given the Royals four by way of a walk or a hit batter.
23:17And now Reagans has given away three.
23:20And this is Michael Harris who struck out on a slider in his first at-bat.
23:25You can see a little frustration on Cole's face right there.
23:28You can tell he was starting to feel good.
23:29Get back in the groove a little bit.
23:31Lost Jonah Heim.
23:33And now Harris hits it well to right field.
23:36And that is home run number three for the Braves tonight.
24:01Just a couple breaking balls that are catching too much play tonight for Cole.
24:04This is a slider.
24:06Middle end.
24:06Michael Harris takes full advantage of it.
24:08We mentioned the short board right there in right field.
24:11The core is like below the chop zone.
24:13And that went right over there.
24:14A good piece of hitting from him.
24:16Cole Reagans disappointed himself by getting the breaking ball.
24:19Just catching too much played again.
24:22I don't imagine that had something to do with a game plan for Harris.
24:26Because Cole struck him out with that slider.
24:29And his first at-bat.
24:30Yeah.
24:31Pitches will tell you it's not the pitch selection.
24:32Sometimes it's the execution.
24:33I think that's what Cole will tell us for that pitch.
24:50And Acuna swings and misses and Cole's thrown a couple of fastballs by him tonight.
24:55Acuna has grounded out to first.
24:57And struck out.
24:59And he played just 95 games last year because of an Achilles injury.
25:08You mentioned Ronald Acuna Jr.
25:10He's got some family ties.
25:11A couple of cousins.
25:12Mike Kale obviously.
25:13And I'll see this Escobar.
25:14But man this is a young star in our league when he puts it all together.
25:17He's already won an MVP.
25:19It feels like with so many guys it's just a matter of being healthy.
25:22But pride of Venezuela both guys represented not only in the World Baseball Classic but now
25:27they go on to Kansas City and Atlanta and continue to represent.
25:34Long run for Marte and he's there.
25:37And there are two down in the bottom of the fourth.
25:41Well the Royals opener is coming up on Monday against Minnesota and there's still time to get
25:45Royals season tickets with options for every schedule and every budget.
25:50You can choose a traditional plan or go flexible.
25:54Secure your season ticket package at Royals.com slash season tickets.
26:14Drake Baldwin hit a line drive home run over the wall in right field his first time up.
26:19Cole Reagans last year gave up seven home runs in 61 innings.
26:25He has allowed three home runs tonight in four innings.
26:29And that's the first time in his big league career that he's given up three home runs in one start.
26:37And we know what type of pitcher Cole Reagans is not being able to see much of Drake Baldwin here
26:41to him would win the rookie of the year last year.
26:44Watching his at bats off on left left Cole Reagans matchup.
26:47It's just really impressive.
26:48It shows you why he won the rookie of the year.
26:50He's an elite catcher that can hit.
26:52That's why he's open day DH because they want that bat to play for a long time.
27:01He's got a fastball splitter.
27:02Especially fall to see the bullpen getting hot.
27:04Bailey falter.
27:06Worked in the first game by covering spring training and it probably was one of the smoothest outings.
27:10I saw Bailey falter to have.
27:11Just nice and fluid out of his hand.
27:13He's got a fastball splitter.
27:18That's how he thought about it but will not challenge.
27:21I was still holding my breath thinking he might.
27:23It was close low and away.
27:24But again look at the situation.
27:26We might need that in a bigger spot when we come back.
27:29Later on in this game.
27:33Three balls two strikes on Baldwin who was born and raised in Wisconsin.
27:38But was drafted out of Missouri State.
27:47And he's going to be on with a walk.
27:51So that's the second in the inning and fourth in the game.
27:55And that brings up Albies.
27:57With a runner at first base and two down.
28:00And before Albies comes up.
28:01Here comes pitching coach Brian Sweeney.
28:06And while they talk it over here's a message from Rally House.
28:09The season starts at Rally House.
28:12From jerseys and hats to tumblers for game day.
28:14It's where outrageous selection meets every fan's style.
28:21So a good time to have a chat with Cole Reagan.
28:24Probably a good time to talk about throwing a changeup to Albies who has two hits off the changeup tonight.
28:30Yeah we mentioned the first one.
28:31He was out front.
28:32Pulled it for a homer.
28:33It still looked like he was fooled.
28:35Cole just left it up.
28:36And the second one it looked like he saw a little better.
28:38Drive the other way.
28:39It was located on the outer half.
28:41Probably wanted to get it down a little more.
28:42But I got to imagine right now pitching coach Brian Sweeney is going out there saying hey come on.
28:47I need your best pitches right here.
28:48This is a good chance he'll be your last hitter.
28:50Rolling up on 88 pitches.
28:52So let's bear down here.
28:53We got confidence in our offense to come tie this up.
28:56A lot of ball game left.
28:57Let's bear down here and make your best pitches to Ozzie.
29:09Fastballs in for a strike.
29:13These guys are better than me Ryan.
29:14They're showing some discipline because if I'm Ozzie Albies right there I might have tapped the helmet again.
29:19But everyone says you want to take the emotion out of it so I couldn't imagine being in the box.
29:23Because I feel like I'm tapping the helmet every time.
29:25Had him reaching.
29:27And Marte runs to the line to make the catch.
29:31And that ends the inning with the Braves hit their third home run.
29:34Michael Harris drives in two and Atlanta leads four nothing.
29:40Four nothing Braves in Atlanta as we take a look at the Vanguard scoreboard.
29:50And pitch count is an issue for both sides.
29:55Cole Reagans who is up to 90.
29:58And Chris Sale who is coming up on 70.
30:03Sale had his first 1-2-3 inning.
30:06And the Royals fourth.
30:08And now he gets Collins, Jensen, and Garcia.
30:12The Royals have had four gift base runners from Sale.
30:19Had a hit batter and a walk in the second inning.
30:21Two walks in the third.
30:24And Sale has benefited from a couple of ground ball double plays.
30:29And he's been able to balance out those free bases with five strikeouts.
30:36Dubon has been busy tonight.
30:38And then he throws a strike to Olsen.
30:39And Isaac Collins who grounded into one of those double plays.
30:43And he's out number one in the Royals fifth.
30:46As an infielder with Chris Sale, you know you're going to be busy.
30:48If he's not striking guys out, you're probably going to get some weak contact on the ground.
30:52So you've got to keep, stay on your toes and be ready at all times.
30:56But we've got to get to base runners right now, Ryan.
30:58Good time for young Carter to work a good at-bat.
31:00Let's see how he adjusts after seeing a couple different slider sweeper type breaking balls from Chris Sale.
31:04And that at-bat number one.
31:11It's the second time Carter has had a good swing at a slider.
31:14He's not flailing at it.
31:16Got a good look at it.
31:16He just missed.
31:17And Sale struck him out with that pitch in the third inning.
31:20And it looked like he was ready for a first pitch slider there.
31:22He's taking good swings.
31:23He's seeing it well.
31:24At least it looks like he is.
31:27That's exactly where you want that slider to start.
31:29Right at you.
31:30When it comes over the plate, he's just missing just a little bit.
31:36But again, there's nobody in the minor leagues.
31:38There's nobody you have faced up until this point in your career with a breaking ball like Chris Sale.
31:43There's just a good chance it's not the same type of movement.
31:47And now he's starting to settle in.
31:49He's retired seven of the last eight.
31:52Going back to Michael Garcia's walk and stolen base in the third inning.
31:58And Kel has begun the year with a single, a walk, and a steal.
32:08Left center field.
32:10And it's going to hang up there for White to backpedals onto the track.
32:14And Sale has another one, two, three inning.
32:17And now he's retired eight of nine.
32:23Kansas City Royals baseball is presented by Flight by Yingling, the next generation of light beer.
32:37Here is Bailey Falter coming on to face Matt Olsen, Austin Riley, and Eli White after the Braves hit three
32:45home runs against Cole Reagans over four innings.
32:49And his first pitch is a slider in for a strike.
32:52Now, the bulk of these numbers came for Bailey with the Pirates.
32:58And he was working on a career year in the first half.
33:03And into the early part of the second half with the Pirates.
33:06And then the wheels came off when he joined the Royals.
33:13Olsen is going to challenge, or is he, or is he not?
33:16Or is he, no, he's going to ask for his timeout.
33:20But anyway, Falter just made a handful of appearances for the Royals.
33:24And his ERA was over 11.
33:26He was also fighting a left biceps strain.
33:30But as Haas pointed out earlier in the game, he had a strong spring training, for what it's worth.
33:34Yeah, always tough to get traded midseason.
33:37But it looked like spring training.
33:38He was dialed in.
33:39It looked like everything slowed down for him.
33:40It was a fresh start.
33:42And, I mean, it was as smooth as a spring training outing, I think, as I've ever seen.
33:46It was against right after Michael Walker came in the game.
33:49And, man, it was just nice and easy out of his hand.
33:52And we mentioned the extension with those fancy numbers, Ryan.
33:54We'll get into that a little bit.
33:56Bailey Falter certainly has a lead extension.
34:00It's going to look in slider.
34:03And it's paying off right there with that slider to Matt Olsen because what the extension means is he is
34:07releasing the ball eight feet further than anybody else.
34:11So it's 60 feet, six inches.
34:12He's releasing the ball eight feet closer.
34:14But right there with Matt Olsen, it's a slider.
34:17It's a fastball that you want to get on top of because it has so much life.
34:20So you're cheating to get ahead of it.
34:21All of a sudden, Bailey throws the slider right there.
34:23That's good pitching for me.
34:25Love what I'm seeing again, Ryan, right here, day one.
34:29Here's Austin Riley with one out.
34:36So, again, quick with that extension.
34:37I'm not sure I explained that right.
34:38I rushed it a little too much.
34:40But when he's releasing the ball, he's essentially cutting down the distance.
34:44So he's gaining ground with his release point because of how much gain, how much ground he's gaining from his
34:48release.
34:50So if he has a seven and a half extension or if he's getting seven and a half feet of
34:56extension, that means that 60 feet, six inches, whatever that cuts the distance down to, the ball is just getting
35:01on.
35:01You quicker because instead of seeing it, you know, back towards closer to the ear, you're seeing the ball just
35:06that much closer to you at the plate.
35:11There she deflects it to Junior, who plants his feet and throws late.
35:16And Riley will be on with one out.
35:22Let's check the replay out here.
35:24Almost another outstanding play from that left side.
35:26But just off the edge of Mike Kell's glove there.
35:28Bobby Witt just making sure Austin Riley's running out of the box.
35:31Just in case he's not, we've got to play.
35:33But almost a great play for Mike Kell.
35:36And it goes down as a base hit.
35:39So Riley's on for a third time.
35:43Bringing up Eli White.
35:50Fastballs at 93.
35:51Well, right before Austin Riley reached, Bailey Falter threw a fastball at 94.
35:57That was basically right down the middle.
36:00I'm still old enough to remember that when someone's throwing 94, you're like, man, this guy's throwing 94 up there.
36:05But it's a different day and age now.
36:07But as you're explaining extension, I thought that was a good example right there.
36:12That a lot of pitchers can't get away with 94 right down the middle.
36:15But yeah, you can tell it plays up.
36:18I'm still new to the information because I'm trying to explain it to the best of my abilities.
36:22But it's amazing.
36:23It's amazing how we can figure out what the deception is.
36:26What makes this guy so difficult to hit back?
36:28Like you said, Ryan, it was, oh, it's a sneaky fastball.
36:30But now you can identify what the deception is.
36:33And for Bailey, it's the extension.
36:35Salvi's going to challenge this one.
36:37I agree.
36:38But catcher's challenge and ball call.
36:41Powered by T-Mobile.
36:43Salvi is one for one so far tonight.
36:47And now he is two for two with almost identical pitches.
36:51Which is getting about, what, about an eighth of the baseball at the bottom of the zone?
36:57Just barely clipping the zone.
36:59Hopefully the umpire Doug Ennings has got to be saying, come on, are you kidding me?
37:02I've been locked in.
37:03I've been calling a good game so far.
37:05And those are the two that I'm going to get overturned.
37:13And White gets jammed, but he's going to drop it out into center field in front of Thomas.
37:19And the Braves have two on with one out.
37:22And that's Eli White's first hit of the season.
37:27Fastball looked like it got in on him.
37:28White did a good job staying inside of it.
37:31Catching a little too much plate again, but just falling in for a single.
37:34Right in front of the lane out there in center field.
37:40One down.
37:41Good time for a ground ball.
37:42Get out of this.
37:47And it's Mauricio Dubon.
37:55Dubon as a hitter is 0 for 2.
37:56He's had a good night defensively.
37:58It's short and he's getting a shot.
38:00To start.
38:02It's short.
38:02Because Ha Sung Kim, who was signed to a one-year contract, a former teammate of yours,
38:09is out recovering from surgery on a finger.
38:14And Dubon is a two-time Gold Glove winner.
38:17The catcher is challenging the ball call.
38:20And again, it was down at the bottom of the strike zone.
38:24Salvi is 2 for 2.
38:27Powered by T-Mobile.
38:28He is 3 for 3.
38:30Pitch is a strike.
38:31Guys, you see, it retains two challenges.
38:34That one got a lot more of the strike zone.
38:36And we're putting the trust in Salvi's hands.
38:38And you're seeing why.
38:39He's doing a great job back there tonight.
38:41Seeing it well.
38:41That one caught a little more plate.
38:44With the first two, man, touching the edge.
38:51And we know that Salvador Perez is respected by big league players as much as anybody.
38:56That even Dubon had to give him a little pat on the chest.
39:00Say, you're on a roll, man.
39:02Not me, man.
39:03Come on.
39:04Don't get me, Salvi.
39:05He must have knew.
39:06He must have had the same feeling Salvi did.
39:07He must have had the same feeling as well as he was in.
39:10Dubon has two gold gloves.
39:13Two of the gold gloves that are newest to Major League Baseball when they started rewarding utility players with gold
39:19gloves.
39:20He has a couple of those.
39:21If you can play shortstop, that is huge value as a utility player.
39:27So you mentioned with Hassan Kim going down.
39:30He is a good shortstop.
39:31Dubon getting an extended look to play every day.
39:38Second strikeout for Falter.
39:40A little swinging.
39:42Registered as a splitter.
39:45Nasty pitch right there.
39:47Falter with...
