00:00:00the Yankees and the White Sox. Hey everyone, I'm Meredith Marakovic. Ben Rice has been incredibly
00:00:06consistent for this Yankees offense all season long. As you mentioned last night, another home
00:00:12run for Rice. Earlier today, I had the opportunity to catch up with his hitting coach, James Rousen.
00:00:17Here is our conversation. James, last night we watched Ben Rice blast his 20th home run of the
00:00:24season. What has it been about his development that has allowed him to become this kind of hitter?
00:00:29Well, first of all, it's just a work ethic that he puts in every day behind the scenes. And then
00:00:33we get an opportunity to see what he does out here on the field. But Benny's been great. Like going
00:00:37back to 24 up until now, I mean, you just see the maturation and evolution of a hitter. A lot
00:00:43of
00:00:43at-bats, a lot of experience. And he's kind of putting that together and knowing how guys are
00:00:48trying to attack him. And we're able to see what happens when you put talent together with a guy
00:00:51who does his homework. What stands out to you about the adjustments he makes kind of within an at-bat
00:00:56and within a game? I think that's what the big leagues is. It's a big chess match. You come
00:01:00here, you do well, they make adjustments to you and you're constantly making them back. And I think
00:01:04that's what Benny's strength is. He does his homework. He's always looking at video. He's
00:01:08seeing how guys are going to attack him, but he's also watching the game and watching how the game
00:01:12unfolds and sees what the next move is going to be. That comes with experience and he's far beyond it
00:01:18for the time he's been in the big leagues and the experience and wherewithal that he's showing out
00:01:22there, it's super impressive. Now we see the product on the field and the production, but
00:01:27is there anything behind the scenes fans should know about Ben Rice? Yeah, Benny's great. Maybe
00:01:32one of the most sarcastic in a good way hitters that you're going to find. Sneaky, really funny dude
00:01:37behind the scenes. But that humor kind of permeates to his teammates. I mean, he's a fun guy behind the
00:01:44scenes, but he works really hard at his craft. This guy studies hitting. He's all about hitting.
00:01:49There's a reason why he's good because he's passionate about it and hitting is kind of an
00:01:53obsession for him. Well, I know you work hard, too, so I'm going to let you go. As always,
00:01:57thanks for joining me, James. Thanks, Meredith. And we appreciate James Rousen for doing that.
00:02:02I spoke to his teammate and friend Spencer Jones last night about what Ben Rice has been doing this
00:02:07season and he simply said they don't call him Benny Bombs for no reason. He is just getting started.
00:02:13Ryan, the Yankees sure hope so. He has been fantastic. He will bat second and DH for them tonight.
00:02:19Terrific stuff. Meredith loved hearing from James. And I mean, Ben Rice has been one of the best hitters
00:02:25in baseball this year. It's really that simple. Well, numbers don't lie. I mean, if you go down
00:02:30there, the offensive leaders, I mean, you see Ben Rice's name up there a lot. And you know,
00:02:35he had Aaron Judge to protect him for the first part of the year. But now he is really a
00:02:41guy that
00:02:42is part, if not the main part of the Yankee offense. I like learning from James that he's sarcastic as
00:02:48well.
00:02:48Yeah. Yeah. That's you can see. I mean, he's a smart guy. He was an Ivy League guy. But yeah,
00:02:53he does his homework on pictures. You know, he's just he takes what he's learned in the past to help
00:02:59him to go forward. Zero. Don taking the field for the Yankees in the middle game of this three game
00:03:05set against the White Sox. Here's the Chicago lineup that he will face. Chase Mydrov, 311 average
00:03:12over his last 19 games will lead off. Randall Gritchick will bat second. Miguel Vargas
00:03:17hits third. Then it's Colson Montgomery, former Yankee Everson Ferreira, Edgar Carroll,
00:03:23Braden Montgomery, Luis Angel Acuna, and Sam Antonacci to round out the White Sox starting lineup.
00:03:32And for the Yanks, it will be Carlos Rodon on the hill. You see the strong numbers for Rodon
00:03:42on the season. Take a look at the scouting report. Well, I mean, he's back in the New York
00:03:48groove. No doubt about it. 2.35 ERA in his last four starts. He just continues to get better.
00:03:54An old friend. You're talking about his old teammates, the Chicago White Sox. 3-0 in three
00:04:00career starts against his old team. And looking forward, I was just looking at it. He had Cole
00:04:05last night. Rodon tonight. Schlittler, Warren, and Freed coming back. I mean,
00:04:09this is a rotation I think the people are really going to talk about going forward.
00:04:14Hey, not only do you feel like you have a chance to win every night, you feel like your starter
00:04:17has
00:04:17a chance to dominate every night. Take a look at the defense behind Rodon. In the outfield,
00:04:23Caballero in left, Bellinger in center. Yankees trying to give Jason Dominguez some stability right
00:04:29now in right as he adjusts to that position. You have Rosario and Volpe on the left side,
00:04:34Chisholm and Goldschmidt on the right side. Canale Sanchez behind the plate.
00:04:41So the Yankees red-eyed coming into this game.
00:04:4714-5 since May 24th. They are first in runs scored and runs allowed over that span.
00:04:54And now a two-and-a-half game lead in the AL East. Their largest since April 25th.
00:05:02Rodon ready. And here we go at the stadium. We had strike one on a four-seamer foul right back.
00:05:10Well, I think the White Sox want to get out here today and close the book on last night because
00:05:14they came in with their hottest starter and the Yankees absolutely exploded.
00:05:18I guess in three home runs, double-figure runs.
00:05:24Inside, one-and-one.
00:05:32By the way, Yankees lead is actually now three games in the AL East because the Dodgers have
00:05:36already beaten the Rays today. I think Otani pitched that closing game today. So, you know,
00:05:42Yes, you are correct.
00:05:43It's funny because Chicago showed up and beat the Dodgers and then the Dodgers go home and beat up on
00:05:49the Rays. So, it's all working out for the Yankees. That's right.
00:05:52It's all working out for the Yankees to take up in the dirt, 2-and-2.
00:06:16Strike three is called.
00:06:19Jimenez behind the plate with a delayed call.
00:06:23But my draw down looking, let's take a look at the scouting report on Emil Jimenez.
00:06:29More high strikes, more inside strikes. I think we might have to add a remarkably delayed strike call.
00:06:35You know what? I was going to say, wow, this might see a challenge.
00:06:37And in the middle of my thought, we saw a strike three.
00:06:40That's right.
00:06:44Popped up behind the plate out of play.
00:06:48Now, almost like Jimenez or Tim McClellan back in the day,
00:06:52they would say strike, so you'd hear it at the plate, right?
00:06:55Even with the delay.
00:06:56And McClellan was probably the slowest.
00:06:58And you'd start to hear a kind of a roar back there.
00:07:01But you'd look back, is that striker in?
00:07:03Yeah, he'd punch you.
00:07:04Is that a strike or is a subway train rolling through?
00:07:06No, he was a good one.
00:07:08Yeah.
00:07:10But for us up here, you know, we can't hear it.
00:07:13So we need pitch calm or we can't really hear them.
00:07:21That one just misses two and one.
00:07:25I mean, Paul talked to you about the fastball and the success Rodon has had with it.
00:07:31Opponents three for 36 against it entering this game.
00:07:36Is that driven in the air to right field and deep.
00:07:39Dominguez back on the track with the catch for the second out.
00:07:46I asked Aaron Boone about the fastball and its effectiveness thus far for Rodon.
00:07:52And he said not only has the velocity been in the mid-90s, but all of the metrics that go
00:07:59with it
00:07:59have been really strong.
00:08:00The profile, the pitch for Rodon, strongest it's been in years.
00:08:04And he thinks it's because of his surgery.
00:08:06He said, you know, he's been pitching with it, you know, maybe not having quite the life that it can.
00:08:12And now it does thanks to getting that arm fixed.
00:08:15Well, it filters down if your fastball is better than your breaking ball is better.
00:08:19And when you start to lose your fastball, then you lose a little spin on your breaking ball.
00:08:22And it's yeah, what he has learned to throw at the past few years where he really couldn't even extend
00:08:27his arm.
00:08:28Now he's able to fully extend it and get the full movement of the pitches he wants to throw.
00:08:37First start in right field at Yankee Stadium for Jason Dominguez.
00:08:42We saw him in right in Toronto over the weekend as that'll make the seats.
00:08:49Dominguez did not start yesterday after having a tooth pulled.
00:08:55Man, he's got a new tooth through a hole in his mouth today, huh?
00:09:03But good to go out there.
00:09:08Rodon, try and make it a quick top of the first.
00:09:12Here comes the one two from Rodon.
00:09:15Hit hard in the left field, a base hit for Vargas.
00:09:18Caballero races over to cut it off. Vargas is going for two, the throw.
00:09:23Not in time. Vargas in there standing with a two-out double.
00:09:27Well, Vargas, we talked offensively, what a year he is having.
00:09:30And he's just adding to it here.
00:09:32You know, he was thinking double right out of the box.
00:09:35And Caballero actually played this ball pretty good.
00:09:37He cut it off, but the only thing is you kind of have to round it off
00:09:41and kind of reverse pivot to get anything on the throw.
00:09:44You know, you're not able to, but played well from Vargas immediately,
00:09:48not thinking anything but double.
00:09:56Remember those days where you don't slide.
00:09:58It's easier to slide.
00:09:59You don't know how beat up your toes and feet get when you, you know,
00:10:03you stutter step in that dirt with the spikes on Vargas.
00:10:07I mean, just around the ball and just kind of hammers it to left field.
00:10:10Boy, if you look at his numbers again, we talked about it last night.
00:10:14Probably going to end up in Philadelphia in the All-Star game.
00:10:17That's why you slide into second, even if it means almost tearing your rotator cuff.
00:10:21Right, Paul?
00:10:22It, uh, it's sometimes it's just easy.
00:10:31You can go watch Paul slide in the DS and 97.
00:10:35That was a beauty one.
00:10:36Yeah, trick slide.
00:10:40We go around.
00:10:41He did wanted to take a look at it here.
00:10:50I think it went out there, but, you know, it's going to be so interesting right next year
00:10:53when they really have that ruling.
00:10:55Yeah, up the Czech's wing.
00:10:56I don't know if that would count, right?
00:11:02Whether or not you're breaking the plane at the baseline.
00:11:10The one, two, his foul back, we're talking about him, Kony, last week.
00:11:18It really is the one call that still hasn't had any sort of real measurements implemented on it.
00:11:25I mean, it's just completely subjective when you look at the Czech swing.
00:11:28Yeah, I never understood how the, you know, they could call it that quick and the Bach move to me.
00:11:33That's another one.
00:11:34Yeah, there's no rhyme or reason why some are barks and some are.
00:11:38So now that Czech swing, he didn't go.
00:11:42I think they keep a quarter, just flip a coin.
00:11:53Colson Montgomery slugging 514 against lefties this season, eighth in the majors
00:11:59against left-handed hitters, one spot behind Ben Rice.
00:12:06Rice will bat second against the lefty Anthony Kaye in the bottom of the inning.
00:12:14But suddenly what looked like it was going to be a quick efficient one, two, three, Vargas battles,
00:12:18doubles, now a longer at bat here for Montgomery and pitch number 20 coming for Rodon.
00:12:24And there will be a 21st.
00:12:48Montgomery, I mean, if you look at his stats, he leads the American League on shortstops and home runs.
00:12:53But a lot of times he slides over to third base as he is tonight against lefties where you get
00:12:58Acuna
00:12:59playing shortstop.
00:13:01That is tap foul.
00:13:11You see the numbers and profile on Montgomery.
00:13:14Twenty-second overall pick back in 2021.
00:13:19Fifth in the AL and homers since he debuted.
00:13:22Ninth pitch of the at bat upcoming.
00:13:25That one's in the dirt.
00:13:36So the count now full on Montgomery.
00:13:43Here's the payoff from Rodon and Montgomery put not quite at a bat here.
00:13:50He's going to turn it to down there with the umpire.
00:13:52First base umpire.
00:13:53Just turn it to you like that.
00:13:57See that very often.
00:14:00Showing off the skills.
00:14:03Another three two coming.
00:14:04This will be the tenth pitch of the at bat.
00:14:06Make it the 11th.
00:14:11And there will be a 12th pitch of this at bat.
00:14:15Yeah this is frustrating for a pitcher.
00:14:17Obviously trying to put him away.
00:14:18And then all of a sudden you've got a guy just battling and battling and it.
00:14:23You can't lose your concentration.
00:14:25Hey we got a champion in the booth back here.
00:14:28Josh Arden's a bit.
00:14:33With three two.
00:14:35Finally won the battle.
00:14:37Popped up.
00:14:39Behind second.
00:14:40Volpe there to make the catch.
00:14:42And in the inning.
00:14:44Yeah Josh Arden and Jalen Brunson here in the booth.
00:14:49Fresh off a championship.
00:14:57Bottom of the first inning.
00:14:59And after a long at bat from Colson Montgomery.
00:15:03Carlos Rodon wins the battle.
00:15:05And holds the White Sox off the board.
00:15:07Let's take a look at the Yankees starting lineup.
00:15:09Paul Goldschmidt, Ben Rice, Ahmed Rosario going to hit third.
00:15:13Bellinger cleanup.
00:15:14Jason Dominguez follows him.
00:15:16Then it's Chisholm, Caballero, Volpe, and Sanchez.
00:15:22And on the mound for the White Sox.
00:15:24Anthony Kaye, the left-hander.
00:15:28We'll go for Chicago.
00:15:32Six and one with a 4-3-4 ERA.
00:15:37And you take a look at the scouting report.
00:15:42And he's back home, Ryan.
00:15:44Let's go with that.
00:15:45He's a Long Island guy.
00:15:46A native but also back as a starter since he came back from Japan.
00:15:50And cleared customs.
00:15:52Yeah, he cleared customers and a couple new pitches.
00:15:53He learned a sinker and a cutter.
00:15:55And then he's brought it back within pitch much better.
00:15:58And the big splits.
00:15:59Lefties really struggling.
00:16:01143.
00:16:02But righties 3-0-1.
00:16:04So it's the righties night tonight.
00:16:06Paul Goldschmidt a 2-98 average on the season now.
00:16:11As he has continued his success, whether lefties or righties.
00:16:17But wow, as he matched lefties.
00:16:25A 4-19 batting average against lefties.
00:16:29That is second in baseball.
00:16:31A 5-14 on base percentage first.
00:16:46And the count two and one.
00:16:52Swing and a miss from Goldschmidt.
00:16:55Another home run last night for Paul Goldschmidt.
00:17:00I mean the numbers don't lie when you're talking about what he does against left-handed pitching this year.
00:17:05Well over 400.
00:17:11And he taps that.
00:17:14To stay alive.
00:17:15I was walking through the tunnel, Ryan.
00:17:17And I saw him over there doing some drills.
00:17:19And I just walked over and was talking to him.
00:17:21It was so interesting to me.
00:17:22Because he's been around the game so long that he's still kind of an old school hitter.
00:17:26Yeah.
00:17:26But he does have access to all the analytics now of everything.
00:17:29But he was talking.
00:17:30And I was, you know, worried about staying on top of the ball.
00:17:33Almost like you were chopping down.
00:17:35He has that same vision.
00:17:36Obviously you don't swing the bat that way.
00:17:39But you have the vision of that which keeps you through the strike zone that much longer.
00:17:43That's what you would do in right field over and over again, right?
00:17:46So you did come to a few.
00:17:47Yeah.
00:17:47You know.
00:17:54Three and two on Goldschmidt.
00:17:58And he rolls that softly to short.
00:18:01Acuna.
00:18:02One down.
00:18:04Take a look at the White Sox defense.
00:18:06Antonacci in left field.
00:18:08Pereira in center.
00:18:09Montgomery in right.
00:18:10We have Colson Montgomery at third.
00:18:12Acuna at short.
00:18:13My draw off that second.
00:18:15Miguel Vargas at first.
00:18:16And Edgar Caro is behind the plate.
00:18:21And here is Ben Rice.
00:18:26Ben the first left handed hitter for the Yankees with 20 homers through the first 71 team games.
00:18:32Since Curtis Granderson did it back in both 2011 and 2012.
00:18:39We're talking about 14 years ago now.
00:18:42What Ben has done.
00:18:47Did you see all the comparative.
00:18:49It's like nobody's done this since Aaron Judge.
00:18:52Yeah.
00:18:52Yeah.
00:18:52Since Aaron Judge.
00:18:54You know if you were coming up as a young player.
00:18:56And you know you're trying to get these historical facts.
00:18:59He had Aaron Judge ahead of you and every every aspect.
00:19:08And when he was doing what he was doing it was.
00:19:10Not since Mickey Mantle.
00:19:12Not since Joe DiMaggio.
00:19:14Babe Ruth.
00:19:15Yeah.
00:19:23One two to Rice.
00:19:24Cute foul.
00:19:36I loved hearing Meredith's conversation with James Rouse and Yankees hitting coach about Ben Rice as well.
00:19:45How sarcastic he is.
00:19:46Yeah.
00:19:47You know what.
00:19:48If you think about it with the adjustments he made.
00:19:50You know it's to get to that pitch right there.
00:19:52He's opened his stance a lot from where he just came up where you know kind of.
00:19:57Gets that hip out of the way where you can really get to that inside pitch quick.
00:20:01He's got to be careful that you stay in there to cover the outside bench and he's been able to
00:20:05do it.
00:20:16And another one two coming to Rice.
00:20:19And Rice reaches out lines that to right field with a catch made on the run by Montgomery.
00:20:27Two down.
00:20:28He just kept him on the end of the bat enough to keep it in the ballpark.
00:20:32And that is the you know the.
00:20:34The problem with the lefty is you really have to cover the ball away to keep the barrel of the
00:20:39bat on the baseball.
00:20:40And that ball just ended up up the end of the bat.
00:20:44And here's Ahmed Rosario.
00:20:46Batting third tonight.
00:20:50Last eight games just two for his last 17.
00:20:52But we know historically the strong numbers against lefties at two ninety four batting average.
00:20:58Seven ninety six OPS.
00:21:04To out nobody on bottom of the first middle game of a three game set.
00:21:08Yankees a twelve to win last night.
00:21:27The two out.
00:21:28The two out.
00:21:29Rip to left field.
00:21:30That is a fair ball down into the corner.
00:21:33Rosario headed to second and he is there for the two out double.
00:21:40Rosario is in there tonight because he hits left handers and he has his whole career.
00:21:44And again he is so quick inside that this ball does not give him a problem.
00:21:49This line is in the left field.
00:21:51Easy double.
00:22:06Here's Cody Bellinger.
00:22:08We talk about lefties who.
00:22:09Have hit lefties well.
00:22:11That is Bellinger.
00:22:14Since last year number one in all of baseball.
00:22:18In batting average by a lefty against left handed pitching three twenty three.
00:22:24As Rosario leads off second.
00:22:27And Bellinger takes.
00:22:30Ball one.
00:22:46Ball one in their first strike one and one by the way next half inning we're going to get to
00:22:59chat with a couple of guys.
00:23:01They've been through a couple of champions and they've been through a lot but you know I don't know if
00:23:04they've been through you up here in the ring of this line but they've been through a lot the last
00:23:07couple of weeks up.
00:23:08Josh Arden.
00:23:08Jalen Brunson will join us as Bellinger turns on that.
00:23:12Clips it high.
00:23:13And gone.
00:23:14Out to right.
00:23:16Cody Bellinger continues to smash lefties.
00:23:21Well lefty on lefty does not affect Cody Bellinger.
00:23:24And as soon as you mentioned that boom it's two to nothing Yankees.
00:23:29And again he keeps that front shoulder in there so well.
00:23:32And has the ability to turn on it.
00:23:34We talked about Kane really shutting down lefties.
00:23:37Cody Bellinger not to lose a lefty on lefties.
00:23:40You combine that with just how good he's been at home.
00:23:45And hits two nothing Yankees here in the first.
00:23:54Bellinger his OPS near 1200 at home this season now.
00:24:00That front hand but the shoulder stays in there and Kay did not want to leave that ball in the
00:24:05inner heart as part of the plate.
00:24:07That's what happens to him.
00:24:09Here's Dominguez the switch hitter batting righty against the lefty Kay.
00:24:16Opening up it clears that hip but he's able to stay back and just drive and pulls the hands in
00:24:22a little bit.
00:24:22Just gets enough on the barrel.
00:24:25But one one tap weakly to short.
00:24:29Lacuna will make the play with the Yankees on the board.
00:24:33Cody Bellinger a two run shot and we get to chat with Josh Arden Jalen Brunson coming up next here
00:24:39on Prime.
00:24:47The NBA came to prime this year and we have a couple NBA champions joining us on Prime right now
00:24:53at the booth in Yankee Stadium.
00:24:55Jalen Brunson Josh Hart here with us.
00:24:57Thank you for being with us fellas.
00:24:59Appreciate you man.
00:25:01Any sleep yet.
00:25:02A little bit.
00:25:03A little bit.
00:25:05You know this city as you guys you've known throughout this journey and now you're experiencing first hand.
00:25:12It's it's clamored for a Knicks championship for decades.
00:25:18What has it been like just in the aftermath.
00:25:20I mean how would you describe what you felt from the fans in the city over the last few days
00:25:25since you guys won the finals.
00:25:27Man it's chaotic the love the support that they're showing.
00:25:32I haven't paid I haven't paid for a meal yet.
00:25:35So it's amazing.
00:25:36But it's a good thing in New York.
00:25:38A great thing.
00:25:38But they've shown so much love man.
00:25:39It's been amazing.
00:25:41How about for you Jalen.
00:25:43I mean that's a good example right here but yeah it's been fantastic.
00:25:48I think it's something that you go out there you're just trying to win do whatever you can to win
00:25:55for your team or whatever and then once you do it you just see all the love and respect.
00:25:59I mean you see along the way but then when you when you achieve a goal and it's it's a
00:26:04lot of love and it's just it's it's something that I won't tell you again at all.
00:26:09I just remember going through that time where you're in the locker room world series you guys I mean we
00:26:15were twenty five twenty six guys you know twelve fifteen.
00:26:18Nobody knows what you're going through except the people in that locker room when you walk away from it it's
00:26:24there for the rest of your life that's the cool thing I always thought about winning.
00:26:26Yeah it's it's we see that we see the ups and downs every single day when obviously the cameras aren't
00:26:32on and so when we um like when we go out there and achieve a goal like that obviously it
00:26:36makes it that times worse that much more sweeter but um I mean the ups and downs of the season
00:26:43now we had a roller coaster ride to say the least but um the fact that every time something happened
00:26:47when we got more together our chemistry grew and then it just felt like we were more complete of a
00:26:53group and so um it's a journey for sure that one poked into right field of base hit first and
00:26:59second year nobody out Jalen you you are just absurdly clutch it feels like you know any big moment if
00:27:07it was a close game just kind of knew all right this is this when Jalen Brunson's gonna take over
00:27:11how would you describe your mentality your confidence in
00:27:15those moments um it starts with my work ethic um that's where I get the confidence from um I've said
00:27:21this a little bit over the past a couple days but like it's I'm not being I'm not afraid to
00:27:25fail and so if I if I come up short in those moments I know my coaches my teammates everyone
00:27:30has my back and I'm gonna be better the next time you know this is how I've been and I
00:27:35have great teammates that have always had my back since day one so um I know we joke a lot
00:27:39we always get on each other but uh this this man he makes sure he makes sure that my confidence
00:27:44is always up there
00:27:44but it's so you notice I'm on your right I can't let you go left so right Josh gonna get
00:27:50the rebound anyway but it's it's like you need a bucket to go to you if there's a 50 50
00:27:55ball Josh you're coming up with it it was unbelievable see you guys go through the playoff run it's just
00:28:00it showed everybody's personality and what teams are I absolutely love it that's the thing the connectivity of your team
00:28:06is Rosario is gonna turn this double play five four three look at Josh with the fist bump we got
00:28:11a real Yankee fan over here in Josh Hart
00:28:14Josh how about that connectivity especially for you guys who went to Nova together I mean how real was that
00:28:22bond that you formed in college and how tangible was the way it affected your success during this playoff run
00:28:28and the way you guys have built over the last couple years you just have so much confidence in each
00:28:33other you know Kel has made so many big plays for us offensively defensively one game game winning blocks and
00:28:41you know like you guys said this guy's clutch all we got to do
00:28:44and make sure we're you know down one or tied at the last minute of the game and we're gonna
00:28:50get from the ball and more times than not we're gonna come out with a W so that you know
00:28:55camaraderie that we built at Nova would really feel like we were fours in fire together and you know doing
00:29:03it with them is you know special now we've been many times you've come to the ballpark and we always
00:29:09hear the Elston Howard story so take me through this how are you related to Elston Howard
00:29:15so it's my so he was my dad's uncle okay so my dad they grew up in St. Louis and
00:29:21he went to Cardinal games you know when the Yankees were in town and he went into the dugout and
00:29:26stuff like that so
00:29:27so you know no doubt the family obviously unfortunately wasn't able to meet him but it's cool because it's kind
00:29:36of a full circle moment more so you know for my dad because he was in those dugouts when he
00:29:40was a kid and now he's you know going to Yankee game going to Knicks game
00:29:44that number's hanging up there for a reason you know he was a great Yankee how about the parade tomorrow
00:29:50fellas how much you looking forward to this I'm excited yeah rest up yeah rest up tonight man so you're
00:29:57gonna be refreshed for tomorrow I mean that's what I'm thinking right as much as I'm sure you guys have
00:30:02have been going with with little sleep up until this point if there was a time to get some recipe
00:30:07tonight before tomorrow right yeah a lot of caffeine a lot of sleep enjoy tomorrow because when it's over they're
00:30:11gonna expect another one
00:30:14Paul you've experienced and we're gonna be able to keep things right here with Jalen and Josh at the end
00:30:19of the inning and Rodon getting out of it you've been through it he's been through it a few times
00:30:24what would you want these guys to know as they get ready to go down the canyon of heroes tomorrow
00:30:29for one thing they can never take it away from what you just accomplish it'll never go away you'll be
00:30:34celebrating this year after you have like I said enjoy it because New York's gonna expect another one and there's
00:30:40nowhere to win better than New York
00:30:42what have guys been telling you about tomorrow what the experience might be like
00:30:47that this is gonna be crazy it's gonna be chaotic but just to be in the moment live it up
00:30:52celebrate it with your friends celebrate your family celebrate with your teammates because you never know if you're gonna be
00:30:58here again you want to be here again that's the goal but be present and celebrate you know you talked
00:31:05about the fans and some of the some of the interaction you've had I'm wondering because obviously you see the
00:31:10reactions
00:31:11has there been any interactions from people that have stood out more than others maybe maybe some of the fans
00:31:17said you or there's something that has really hit about what this title has meant to certain individuals as they've
00:31:24come up to celebrate you guys in the aftermath of this
00:31:28or maybe there's one sentiment that you've heard repeated over and over again that that has really struck a chord
00:31:33with you guys I would say that there's been a lot of guys that I've you know that's talked to
00:31:39us and like you know I
00:31:40I watched this moment with my dad or me and my dad dream at this moment and it was always
00:31:44you know a connection to family it's what's so special about New York is you know that that family connection
00:31:51like this is generations of Nick fans all celebrating as one and I think that's you know the constant well
00:31:58fellas we appreciate you being up here congratulations on the championship enjoy tomorrow and enjoy the game tonight thanks for
00:32:06giving us so much time appreciate it thank you thank
00:32:08thank you thank you thank you you got it you got it you got it congrats sailing good well you
00:32:12too so Josh Hart Jalen Brunson spending some time with us here on Prime after the NBA came to Prime
00:32:23this season and receiving a nice ovation as they head out here at the stadium
00:32:41and jazz chisholm jr steps in
00:33:05all right well the chance of God from Brunson to Paul O'Neill to me Paul so we'll take I
00:33:10was starting I was the only one calling it you know what you're around people who win is there's just
00:33:16an aura now around it and you know by them walking into the clubhouse can only jumpstart the Yankees of
00:33:24you know this is what is possible that's such a neat thing I always think you know for this city
00:33:30whenever there's
00:33:31there's any team that's winning it does feel like the teams that are in season then that have a chance
00:33:37feel that energy get activated in some way jazz chisholm jr having a laugh right now as I think we're
00:33:49having some of that pitch clock engagement funniness that we've seen with Caballero as well it's starting to rub off
00:33:56a little bit but you know why we were talking here I mean Rodon he you gotta have an ending
00:34:00right there you you
00:34:01you get a two run lead really quick and then boom a couple guys on and then a double play
00:34:05and you're out of the inning what a huge inning for Rodon and the Yankees
00:34:11and a challenge here ABS powered by T-Mobile and a challenge the White Sox are going to win as
00:34:21Chisholm will be down on strikes
00:34:29so one away here in the second and here's Jose Caballero and there's a ball one at 0.
00:34:55this is going to call D-Mobile and it's gonna be in the first starting off.
00:35:01the White Sox are going to challenge again.
00:35:05Well I was testing his luck but that's about as much as you'll see a catch-or-miss buy.
00:35:12You know what Michael it has always said during the year we got to keep like the top ten.
00:35:16In a barrel.
00:35:17That might be in the top ten.
00:35:19And you know what's amazing about it Paul and it just speaks to how incredible your knowledge of the strikes
00:35:25you are.
00:35:25the strike zone is right it's
00:35:27Caballero gets drilled and
00:35:30will take first like two and a
00:35:32half inches looks I mean it's
00:35:34so far out of the strike zone
00:35:35but it's it's two and a half
00:35:36inches you know it's not a huge
00:35:39measurement but that's just how
00:35:40precise the strike zone is and
00:35:43all of your awareness of it is
00:35:45as you guys play and Aaron Boone
00:35:50wants to check on Caballero
00:35:52still shaking up a little bit in
00:35:54the aftermath of that yeah right
00:36:09off that right big toe area you
00:36:17know what do you want to do here
00:36:19that's a back foot there is you
00:36:21go there you act like you know
00:36:24you're hobbled right yeah it hurt
00:36:26but then you steal on the first
00:36:27pitch that was always like a
00:36:29little trick you can little
00:36:30gamesmanship here's Volpe we'll
00:36:46see if Caballero does have the
00:36:49legs to go he's inching and first
00:36:57pitch a ball both be at three hits
00:37:03hits last night six hits over his last
00:37:17four games after he had just three
00:37:19the previous nine and this is what
00:37:23we've seen against lefties Volpe will
00:37:26start it short and Caballero start
00:37:29somewhere else on the diamond
00:37:30typically the outfield Caballero
00:37:40started and stopped now scampers
00:37:42back to an oh yeah he kind of is
00:37:44very tough to for coming over to
00:37:46pick up being a lefty and you
00:37:48know he loves to get that running
00:37:49like walk towards second base it's
00:37:52very hard to time against the
00:37:54left handed pitcher and again
00:38:05Caballero started and stopped us
00:38:07to slide back in there safely I
00:38:10just saw Caballero when he's
00:38:12leaving on Sally stays way back
00:38:14and then walks towards the line
00:38:16that's what we were taught a long
00:38:18time ago and it was a perception
00:38:20from the pitcher that you weren't
00:38:21off the base that far and then
00:38:23as you start walking towards the
00:38:24baseline you're in a running
00:38:26position Volpe waves and misses
00:38:37Bobby Valentine used to have
00:38:38John Oliver would try and back
00:38:40that at first base Todd Zeal used
00:38:43to walk in front of you and things
00:38:44like that yeah drive me crazy I
00:38:46remember getting picked off one
00:38:47night because of here goes
00:38:51Caballero as the pitch is fouled
00:38:53down the right field line finally
00:38:56got a good jump but nothing nothing
00:38:57Volpe could do I mean he's in a
00:38:59hole with the plate he's got to
00:39:01try to swing and a strike but he
00:39:02did get a great jump there timed
00:39:04well.
00:39:20And a check on Caballero is back but
00:39:30that move right there as a baser
00:39:31really doesn't help because it
00:39:32was just a show me that you know
00:39:34he's got a better move but you
00:39:36know you don't know whether you
00:39:37want to trust that he's not going
00:39:38to come over there again not going
00:39:40this time Volpe powers that into
00:39:42left center field that will get
00:39:44down and go to the one more
00:39:46Caballero rounding third he's
00:39:49headed home Volpe into third with
00:39:51an RBI triple and it's three
00:39:54nothing Yankees.
00:39:57Buck rated back by Volpe just
00:39:59hammered out of the left center
00:40:00field but boy it's so much fun
00:40:03and when you've got speed on the
00:40:04bases speed at the plate the
00:40:06four seed fastball is caught up
00:40:08to it stayed on it and just drove
00:40:10it to left center field Caballero
00:40:18wasn't even busted at full speed
00:40:20knew he'd be okay also wonder if
00:40:22he's affected a little bit by the
00:40:24hit by pitch there you know he
00:40:26looked back and about halfway
00:40:28from second to third and look
00:40:29back and he saw himself that he
00:40:31was going to score easy so he
00:40:32shut it down a little bit.
00:40:43First triple this season for
00:40:45Anthony Volpe Sanchez puts one in
00:40:47the right that will get down for
00:40:50a base hit Volpe will score and
00:40:53the Yankees keep hitting hits for
00:40:55nothing.
00:40:56Well you're really actually kind
00:40:58of happy this ball falls in
00:40:59because Volpe had to kind of
00:41:01creep down the line so far that he
00:41:03was not going to be able to get
00:41:04back the change up pretty good
00:41:07pitch still sinking away to stay
00:41:09with it and poked it to right.
00:41:10Like I said watch Volpe he doesn't
00:41:12go back immediately so it kind of
00:41:14gets caught in the middle of the
00:41:15base pass this ball's caught he
00:41:17doesn't score you can't tag.
00:41:19He doesn't have to be able to get
00:41:22Here's Goldschmidt takes strikes
00:41:25a one Bellinger to run over the
00:41:27first.
00:41:28Now these two runs here in the
00:41:29second immediately you want to
00:41:30freeze and get back and read it
00:41:32but he was so far but obviously
00:41:33when he hits the grass you know
00:41:36it's not deep enough to score
00:41:37in a sack flight but if he has
00:41:38to die for the ball and you're
00:41:40tagging up you'll score and you're
00:41:44the right ball once he danced off
00:41:46the way he did he needed that
00:41:48ball to drop or obviously had no
00:41:50shot where there's all kind of
00:42:04hits hit right field right now
00:42:06because if you look at the
00:42:07defense Montgomery on the right
00:42:10field almost on the warning
00:42:12track asking Caballero Tim
00:42:16Lynchage saying are you OK.
00:42:35You look at this yeah I mean
00:42:36anything over his head's in the
00:42:37seats anyway you see a white piece
00:42:39of marker it's like a bread crumb
00:42:41how to get back to it.
00:42:45And Goldschmidt watches that just
00:42:48whisper over the outside corner
00:42:51three and two.
00:42:53Yeah.
00:42:54So that's the normal positioning
00:42:56maybe right.
00:42:56Basically in Yankee State in the
00:42:58kind of where you want to play.
00:42:59He's going sideways not in.
00:43:01Oh OK.
00:43:02Go in a little bit.
00:43:03Two strikes coming in a little
00:43:05bit.
00:43:05He had to be called in from the
00:43:07bench because like I said
00:43:08there's no reason to play that
00:43:09deep because anything over your
00:43:10heads going to the seats three
00:43:13to Goldschmidt that inside out
00:43:16swing fouls it away.
00:43:26That was interesting as you saw
00:43:27that ball fouled off and Kay was.
00:43:29We talked about he learned the
00:43:31sinker and he learned to cut her
00:43:32while he was in Japan because
00:43:33the high fastball because of the
00:43:36way they hit.
00:43:37They fouled that high fastball
00:43:39off and it's a strikeout pitch
00:43:40used here fly ball right center
00:43:45Montgomery to make the catch for
00:43:48the second hour.
00:43:49The second hour.
00:43:56I mean pretty great story with
00:43:58Anthony Kay that he goes over
00:44:01there last two seasons in Japan.
00:44:03Has great success comes back
00:44:05here as 20 family members and
00:44:08friends in the house tonight for
00:44:10this game hasn't gone his way
00:44:12thus far.
00:44:13Well if you look at his numbers
00:44:15and you know it's six and one.
00:44:17It's pretty strong.
00:44:19Yeah for a starting pitcher and
00:44:21he's been really good of late
00:44:23last seven starts five and over
00:44:25the three to two former first
00:44:27round pick by the Mets went to
00:44:28UConn.
00:44:30See those last two seasons in
00:44:32Japan and has been really
00:44:34effective over his last eight
00:44:36starts.
00:44:40One and one.
00:44:47Rice flew out to write his first
00:44:49time up.
00:45:20three and one.
00:45:26And Rosario on deck.
00:45:39three.
00:45:46One.
00:45:58And that's outside ball four.
00:46:01Rice walks in and continues for
00:46:04Ahmed Rosario who got the
00:46:06offense started with a double with
00:46:09two outs in the first.
00:46:11Yeah we've gone over his career
00:46:13and then you know he can swing
00:46:15the bat and especially against
00:46:16left handed hitters.
00:46:17So you know this is the
00:46:19opportunity where Aaron Boone
00:46:20puts him in the three hole.
00:46:22All of a sudden boom.
00:46:23Now he has an opportunity in a
00:46:24big situation to do what he does
00:46:26best and that's hit left handed
00:46:28pitchers.
00:46:29Back ball about to the mound.
00:46:32To chat with Kay.
00:46:54The Yankees with two in the first.
00:46:57The Bellinger homer two already
00:46:59in here.
00:47:00In the second.
00:47:02The RBI triple from Volpe.
00:47:04And single from Sanchez.
00:47:06First and second two out.
00:47:08And that is.
00:47:10Ball one.
00:47:11To Rosario.
00:47:15We've learned to just pause a
00:47:16moment.
00:47:17Because the men has.
00:47:18Exactly.
00:47:19He'll get us.
00:47:20I'll let you call.
00:47:20Yeah.
00:47:2230th pitch of the inning up coming
00:47:24here from Kay.
00:47:29Rosario drives out in the air to
00:47:31right center.
00:47:32In the yard as Pereira will make
00:47:34the catch.
00:47:35To end the inning.
00:47:36But the Yankees add two more.
00:47:38Four nothing through two.
00:47:48On prime as Carlos Rodon is on the mound for his third inning of work as the Yankees lead the
00:47:54White Sox for nothing.
00:47:56Carlos Rodon is making just his seventh start of the season and it's very clear he is trending upwards.
00:48:03Last three starts that he was on the mound the Yankees won those games and you've seen steady improvement from
00:48:08Rodon all along the way.
00:48:10In speaking with pitching coach Matt Blake he said there are a lot of reasons to be encouraged.
00:48:14Ryan you touched on one of them his fastball and the way it has been playing this season.
00:48:19In speaking to Blake he felt like that pitch profile and velocity is very similar to what it was last
00:48:25year.
00:48:25But the results are clearly a little different and a little better so far.
00:48:29You can tell by the way batters are swinging.
00:48:32They're often late with their swings.
00:48:34Not as much hard contact.
00:48:36One area that they would like Rodon to improve a little bit are the walks.
00:48:40We had one walk earlier in this game.
00:48:42But you look at the last three games combined eight walks for him.
00:48:46They feel as though sometimes he tries to get a little bit too fine.
00:48:49Kind of tries to get to the edges too much.
00:48:51And he runs into trouble there.
00:48:53He said he needs to use more of the outside quadrant.
00:48:55But have faith in his stuff.
00:48:57Don't worry about trying to be too fine.
00:48:59His stuff is good enough to get the job done.
00:49:02Great stuff.
00:49:03Meredith.
00:49:05With an incredible pick for our number one.
00:49:09You just got to time this what they call Ole.
00:49:13You just kind of swipe at it.
00:49:14It says hope that it hits and stays in your pocket.
00:49:16The way to come in or go back.
00:49:20Pretty good when it works.
00:49:24Eyes on the ball right.
00:49:25Yeah.
00:49:27Jazz added a little extra velocity at the end of that Ole.
00:49:31Well you know if you're going to knock it forward it stays in the pocket that way.
00:49:35But if you look at that pocket you don't really have much room for error.
00:49:38No.
00:49:43Here's my draw.
00:49:55Broken bat in the left that will dump down in front of Caballero for a base.
00:50:00It is my draw is on.
00:50:05Little indecision there right when this ball is hit.
00:50:08And you know Caballero he's a great utility guy.
00:50:11But you know what when you have to play all the positions.
00:50:14The outfield sometimes the ball comes off that ball was a jam shot.
00:50:18So it didn't have to carry.
00:50:19But he thought initially off the bat.
00:50:28He's going to swing and a miss.
00:50:31Here's Gritchick who.
00:50:34Is with the Yankees.
00:50:36Earlier this year.
00:50:38DFA on April twenty ninth.
00:50:40He has been a fantastic.
00:50:43Platoon DH corner outfielder with the White Sox.
00:50:50Said yesterday it was good to see his former teammates understood that.
00:50:54They had a loaded bench and he was not first on the totem pole.
00:51:00I'm very happy to now mentor these young hitters that he has in Chicago.
00:51:06As he hammers that over the leap of Rosario and into left field a base in.
00:51:12So a couple of White Sox on with one out in the third.
00:51:21Well because it was hit so hard and.
00:51:25My drop had to freeze at first base not knowing if it was going to be caught or not.
00:51:29So he was not able.
00:51:31To advance the third.
00:51:32So we're not still has.
00:51:34A double play ball in option.
00:51:43For the first.
00:51:46Forty seven pitchers thus far for O'Don.
00:51:55one who needed twelve pitches to
00:51:58retire Montgomery for the final
00:52:00out of the first kind of set the
00:52:02tone pitch count wise as that
00:52:05pitch is going to be challenged
00:52:11so an ABS challenge here from
00:52:15Sanchez who knew that that hit
00:52:18the corner game inches going to
00:52:43now on Vargas who doubled his
00:52:53first time up VO to God I'm
00:52:57looking at ninety seven mile an
00:53:01hour for Seymour and Vargas tied
00:53:03up two way and we were talking
00:53:05about his fastball and how
00:53:07successful he's been with it and
00:53:10it's actually picked up a ticker
00:53:12two at ninety seven you didn't
00:53:13see that last year he became more
00:53:15of a pitcher with the change up
00:53:16and the big slider always had a
00:53:18good fastball he's got an elite
00:53:20fastball hitters under hitting
00:53:22under a hundred off of it
00:53:24combined all year Montgomery
00:53:42at that twelve pitch at bat in the
00:53:44first before Rodon won the battle
00:53:50and 0 and 2 on Montgomery that sinker
00:53:55has a lot of added velocity this
00:53:57season for Rodon one and a half
00:54:01miles per hour on average he got
00:54:05that one up to ninety four pitch
00:54:06that he had previously averaged
00:54:09around ninety one and a half miles
00:54:11an hour so I went to here on
00:54:21Colson Montgomery with first and
00:54:24second two out pitch line in the
00:54:28air to right field in deep to
00:54:30main gas looking up that is gone
00:54:34it's a new ball game as Colson
00:54:37Montgomery takes the 0 2 pitch up
00:54:41and out to right his 18th home run
00:54:44of the year a three run shot it's
00:54:46a 4 3 game we talked about his
00:54:49power one guy that you just cannot
00:54:50make a mistake to and it really
00:54:52wasn't that bad of a pitch off
00:54:54speed though which allowed the
00:54:56lefty to get the bad head out
00:54:58drive it into the short forks
00:55:01to try to do a slider and it just
00:55:03didn't have it it's going to fight
00:55:04at the end right to the barrel
00:55:07of a left handed they're not a
00:55:09brand new game now talks about it
00:55:14before Montgomery eighth in the
00:55:16majors and slugging percentage
00:55:18against left handed pitching as
00:55:19a left handed hitter and yeah
00:55:24I think a lot of regret about that
00:55:27pitch you could see for a
00:55:39reaction way outside and you know
00:55:42it ended up middle away which
00:55:44gives you the ability to hack in
00:55:49from the left.
00:55:59swing at a miss that will end the
00:56:01inning but not before Colson
00:56:04Montgomery deposits a three run
00:56:06shot it's a right leave for a
00:56:07dog disgusted three a three run
00:56:16over to make it a 4 3 game how
00:56:18about a little how about that how
00:56:20about that yeah well not Colson
00:56:22Montgomery broke the 30 year White
00:56:24Sox Stroud becoming their first
00:56:26first round high school pick
00:56:28since ninety five to reach the
00:56:29majors calm effortless demeanor
00:56:31and earned the nickname Big
00:56:33Smooth and how about Indiana high
00:56:37school basketball had a standing
00:56:39walk on opportunity with the
00:56:42Hoosiers but went the route of
00:56:46baseball and 18 home runs tied for
00:56:55fifth in the American League it
00:56:57looked like there was some
00:57:00regrets about the pitch selection
00:57:02in the aftermath of that one I
00:57:03don't know if it's the pitch
00:57:04selection or just the location I
00:57:06mean when you want to throw that
00:57:08ball off the plate away and you
00:57:10miss away you're going to get
00:57:13hit you know you've got to throw
00:57:14that ball so it looks like a
00:57:16strike and ends up off the plate
00:57:20to one to Bellinger and it's
00:57:23three and one so Yankees
00:57:27offense has to go back to work
00:57:28against Kay Bellinger a two run
00:57:32homer in the first that got the
00:57:35scoring started for the Yanks
00:57:41ball here was that road on pitch
00:57:43ball yeah see a way away and it
00:57:45ends up just playing middle away
00:57:47and anything right there you
00:57:50know you can see the frustration
00:57:51of showing that he didn't finish
00:57:53the pitch and get it off the
00:57:54plate away Ballinger somehow got
00:57:58to that ball on his body to
00:58:00foul it off and then the breaking
00:58:01ball this one starts right at
00:58:03you you know comes over the
00:58:04middle really nothing you can do
00:58:06other than open up and does
00:58:07hammer and foul you see the OPS
00:58:10against left handed pitching
00:58:11since last season third in
00:58:13baseball amongst left handed
00:58:15hitters and Ballinger again
00:58:17rips that to right field that'll
00:58:20land softly into the corner and
00:58:23Cody Ballinger is at second with
00:58:27right off double look at that bad
00:58:29Ryan it is so cool to see a hitter
00:58:32foul off a tough pitch to get
00:58:35another one and then get
00:58:36something you can handle I mean
00:58:37that to me is hitting at its best
00:58:40I mean the pitch before really
00:58:43nothing to do other than foul it
00:58:44off which he did then he gets a
00:58:47mistake and hammers it for a
00:58:48double to right field ball we talk
00:58:53about this quite often but it
00:58:56bears mentioning again he is the
00:58:57kind of player the more you
00:58:58watch him just the more you
00:59:00appreciate his greatness
00:59:01obviously you could just look at
00:59:02his numbers and know what a good
00:59:04player he is but when you watch
00:59:06him day in day out he's just
00:59:07such a good baseball player right
00:59:09when you add his defense his
00:59:10base running his instincts and
00:59:12just everything together you're
00:59:15looking you know what he's not
00:59:16in left field tonight which he
00:59:18usually is but you know you're
00:59:19looking at the probably the best
00:59:20left fielder yeah American League
00:59:22all around and he's going to get
00:59:24to third year on this wild pitch
00:59:37not the boldest effort to block it
00:59:39but it gets scored a wild pitch
00:59:46and field in but to all and it's
00:59:51the way you know I'm Jason
00:59:52Dominguez it's not like he's
00:59:56trying to pitch around anybody
00:59:58yeah you don't have an hour on
00:59:59the board yet you start pitching
01:00:00around people you're setting
01:00:02yourself up for a big inning see
01:00:06if Jason has the green light
01:00:07three you know and taking three
01:00:12and one the media is after his
01:00:17medley of caffeinated beverages
01:00:19really contributed in Toronto a
01:00:22big home run and a big double
01:00:24back to back games three one to
01:00:30short that will not get the job
01:00:32done as Acuna will throw out
01:00:35Dominguez one away as Bellinger
01:00:37stays anchored nobody out you're
01:00:39you're seeing the ball through as
01:00:41a runner at third base and
01:00:42unless you get a good read on a
01:00:44chopper or something like that
01:00:45because even by not scoring
01:00:46there you're still at third base
01:00:48with one out now you would assume
01:00:52that you might go in contact with
01:00:54Bellinger's good wheels there is
01:00:58jazz struck out looking his first
01:01:01time up here's a fastball for a
01:01:08strike ninety six over the outer
01:01:09third on one Bellinger really
01:01:13can't get that big of a lead
01:01:15either because as you look down at
01:01:18third base Montgomery is really
01:01:20close to third base so you can
01:01:22usually get only get off as far as
01:01:23the third baseman is 0 and 2 is
01:01:29jazz chases there the sweeper
01:01:37that have been better against the
01:01:39lefties this season then he has
01:01:42been throughout his career
01:01:44batting average up OPS up both
01:01:46quite a bit in his career two
01:01:51thirty two against lefties six
01:01:53seventy six OPS but this year two
01:01:55fifty six and seven sixty three
01:02:09one two and it's two and two on
01:02:12jazz.
01:02:35He's got a swing swing and a mass
01:02:36what a perfectly placed sinker and
01:02:39jazz down on strikes you said it
01:02:43Ryan I mean the sequence there
01:02:44was a way away away and then
01:02:45you're going to try to throw a
01:02:47perfect two seamer to just come
01:02:49in the barrel well done you see
01:02:54how stiff he is there because
01:02:56he's looking away and then all
01:02:57of a sudden you see it in and
01:02:58you're just going to try to make
01:03:00a swing at it so now can come by
01:03:03arrow pick up his teammates after
01:03:07Bellinger was at third with
01:03:09nobody out and did he go no soft
01:03:16ground out from Dominguez to
01:03:19Acuna who was in it short and
01:03:21then the jazz strikeout
01:03:58in the first strike two and one
01:04:18and one guy by arrow trying to
01:04:22punch it pops it up and K will
01:04:25make the catch to end the innings
01:04:26the Yankees waste the leadoff
01:04:29double from Bellinger we go to
01:04:30the fourth for three Yanks
01:04:39to prime this Sunday at 2 30 p.m.
01:04:41live from naval base Coronado in
01:04:44San Diego the first ever NASCAR
01:04:46race on an active military base
01:04:48honoring the Navy as part of
01:04:50America 250 NASCAR hits on prime
01:04:56Edgar Carol leads off here for the
01:04:59White Sox to the fourth Yankees
01:05:02for White Sox three and Rodon
01:05:04deals strike one it's impressive
01:05:07you got a little Spanish accent
01:05:08when you said you know sometimes
01:05:10I'll roll that are for you mix it
01:05:13in I think at the notch he is my
01:05:15best work tonight Kyle Teal on his
01:05:33way back for the White Sox who
01:05:34would figure to be a big boost
01:05:36behind the play for a team that
01:05:38can already hit because they
01:05:41haven't gotten much offensively
01:05:42from Carol or from Romo down
01:05:52straight back I wanted to ask you
01:06:00something you know how we've
01:06:03talked about the White Sox and a
01:06:04lot of hitters who have credited
01:06:06the director of hitting Brian
01:06:09Fuller for reworking their swings
01:06:11as Carol singles in the left
01:06:13helping them either resuscitate
01:06:16their careers or just grow through
01:06:18minor league struggles and get to
01:06:20a place where they're impacting
01:06:21the major league level now
01:06:23organizational structures have
01:06:25certainly changed when it comes to
01:06:26even that title right in recent
01:06:28years with the director of hitting
01:06:29you think back your career there
01:06:32was someone who influenced your
01:06:33hitting more than any other
01:06:34coach wise so one guy who stands
01:06:37out I mean every guy you were it's
01:06:40kind of like a manager you know
01:06:41you learn separate things from
01:06:43every one of your managers who
01:06:44hitting coaches are the same but
01:06:46the one time that I really made a
01:06:47huge change was with a leg kick
01:06:50was when Rick down and you know he
01:06:53was patient he was to stay with me
01:06:55and you know I can say that Chris
01:06:58Sham has helped me about big big
01:07:00situations because he had been in
01:07:02them and Tony Perez and with the
01:07:04Reds about you know what to look
01:07:06for with guys on base so you take a
01:07:08lot of things from a lot of people
01:07:10the mental part and the physical
01:07:13mechanics well speaking of physical
01:07:16yeah Carlos Rodon he's saying I'm
01:07:20good I'm good and something in his
01:07:23guy yeah said I said so I can't get
01:07:26a bug in your head to Rick Downs
01:07:35was the one who introduced the
01:07:37light kick for you though we
01:07:39started working on spring training
01:07:40and I got to opening day made an
01:07:42out and I'm like you know I got a
01:07:43bag this thing I'm in trouble but
01:07:45you know you stick with it and it
01:07:47completely changed
01:07:55it's just like a little bit of
01:07:55going to get it right into Brad
01:07:56Montgomery I mean how long Paul
01:07:59mechanically you make a mechanical
01:08:00switch like that how long before
01:08:02you actually felt like this is
01:08:04comfortable it's funny you you
01:08:05feel it immediately but then do
01:08:08you trust it enough to take it
01:08:09into a game with the game winner
01:08:11at second base that's yeah you've
01:08:13got to get over the middle thing
01:08:16because soon as you don't think
01:08:18about it a change you go by right
01:08:20back to where you were naturally
01:08:21and that usually if you're making
01:08:23a change you're changing
01:08:24something you don't want to be
01:08:25where you were I tell you
01:08:28something I really did and I look
01:08:30back and I did it intentionally
01:08:31every year going into the playoffs
01:08:33going in the World Series I would
01:08:35change something just a little
01:08:36bit maybe move your foot and
01:08:38injure you know wait just because
01:08:41it made you aware of your
01:08:43mechanics we're in big at bats and
01:08:45things like that you kind of got
01:08:46away from all that was going on
01:08:49that's that is a fascinating
01:08:52nugget though because usually
01:08:54you guys say they don't want to
01:08:56think about anything mechanical
01:08:57up there for you it helped you
01:08:59block out the situation right
01:09:00Wow didn't always work we have to
01:09:07go back and look at what certain
01:09:10postseason adjustments were right
01:09:12there's not a hitter that's played
01:09:14the game that you can't look at year
01:09:16after year that their stance is a
01:09:17little different their hands are a
01:09:19little different it's just it it
01:09:20becomes a comfort when you leave in
01:09:23your car after the last game and you
01:09:25come back to spring training you get
01:09:26it you know you start hitting
01:09:27everything has changed a little bit
01:09:29yeah and it's just the way it is
01:09:34that's probably not a swing that
01:09:36Montgomery is going to want to
01:09:37duplicate you know you do put
01:09:39videos together about your good
01:09:41and bad ones and you never watch
01:09:43the bad ones that's not going to
01:09:44be on the real right there that's
01:09:47just a good slide man you know
01:09:49he just buried down on the back
01:09:51foot fouled straight back
01:10:22and it's one and one well you can
01:10:30see the likeness of Acuna to his
01:10:32brother looking at him in the
01:10:35face Ronald four years older and
01:10:52about the younger brother Brian
01:10:53he's an infielder in the twin
01:11:00system Louise on Allen Ronald did the
01:11:03lineup card exchange and the
01:11:05Braves were in town last week and
01:11:19I think a lot of people have got
01:11:19Yeah I can see a ball.
01:11:24Two or two.
01:11:42Swing in a miss good change up
01:11:44there from road on six strike
01:11:46out it's funny early in that
01:11:49count he threw the old one
01:11:51fastball up and in and it's
01:11:53probably not intentional got
01:11:54away from a little bit but as a
01:11:55pitcher you got to realize you
01:11:57got to use that pitch to set up
01:11:59something and because he did he
01:12:01allowed this change up down on
01:12:03the way to become a strikeout
01:12:09here's Anthony and a check over
01:12:14on Carol.
01:12:32Just miss want to know we were
01:12:37giving you the numbers last
01:12:40night and the Nazi and a leading
01:12:4215 hit by pitches most through
01:12:45a player's first fifty three
01:12:46career games since the eighteen
01:12:48hundreds kid Elberfeld who was a
01:12:56Highlanders captain so we got some
01:12:59Yankee ties there.
01:13:16one mostly an infielder in the
01:13:18minors but playing left field in
01:13:21the White Sox because that is
01:13:23where the playing time is right
01:13:25right now from Chicago two and one
01:13:52the Yankees for Rodon two outs
01:13:55here in the top of the fourth
01:13:56Yankees a four three lead to a
01:14:00two on Antonacci down and away
01:14:10and the count is full on Sam
01:14:15Antonacci Carol will be off 3 2
01:14:222 outs.
01:14:303 2 foul straight back good
01:14:38life on the basketball that was
01:14:39ninety six again see what he
01:14:52goes to on another three to
01:14:54two tipped into the glove went
01:14:57to a sinker and Rodon with his
01:15:00third straight strikeout now
01:15:01seven on the night we go to the
01:15:03bottom of the fourth.
01:15:13Prime Angel race in the Atlanta
01:15:15dream take on Kaitlin Clark in
01:15:17the Indiana fever and a can't
01:15:19game this matchup all tips off this
01:15:22Thursday.
01:15:22That's tomorrow at 7 p.m.
01:15:26Eastern I always a fun matchup was
01:15:32Indiana Chicago now Indiana Atlanta
01:15:34Kaitlin Clark the reigning Eastern
01:15:36conference player of the week.
01:15:40Atlanta Chicago all I think about
01:15:42is Larry Bird and Michael George
01:15:44that's where you're from right.
01:15:46This is the time they hear where
01:15:48basketball is basketball.
01:15:51Yeah.
01:15:54Larry Bird coach in Indiana against
01:15:56Michael to.
01:15:57New here is Volpe who smoked a
01:16:06triple to left center field drove
01:16:08in a run his first sit back off
01:16:11three hits yesterday.
01:16:22And Volpe goes the other way this
01:16:24time hit it hard but right at
01:16:25Montgomery one down with a couple
01:16:28great at bats the first line
01:16:29drive to left center field score
01:16:31to run and now a line drive to
01:16:32right center just depending on
01:16:34the location of the pitch once in
01:16:38a while you just see a hitter
01:16:40and you say don't change stay
01:16:41right there yeah here's Ali
01:16:48Sanchez an RBI single his first
01:16:52time up to drive in Volpe and
01:16:56look like Carol was not pleased
01:16:59with that ball call but was not
01:17:01going to barter the final ABS
01:17:03challenge and that's the
01:17:07strategy of the right it's not
01:17:08just about do you think it was a
01:17:10striker a ball it's about is it
01:17:12worth the risk Carol's already
01:17:14been wrong once today do you
01:17:16want the responsibility of being
01:17:17the guy who is the reason your
01:17:19team doesn't have anymore I mean
01:17:21you're looking at the situation
01:17:22fourth inning and you've got one
01:17:24out it's the first pitch of a
01:17:26count you know it's just a very
01:17:28awkward way to lose a challenge
01:17:36well similar to what we see in
01:17:37basketball right do you want to
01:17:39yeah that ball was out of bounds
01:17:40on the other team it's the first
01:17:42quarter with seven minutes to go
01:17:44do you want to use a challenge for
01:17:46that of course in basketball you
01:17:51can challenge twice that's your
01:17:55capacity here you could be wrong
01:17:58twice broken bat one operative
01:18:06third tough play not made by
01:18:09Montgomery and Sanchez is on with
01:18:13one out here in the fourth jam
01:18:16shot and it must have had a lot of
01:18:17spin on it because he had plenty of
01:18:20time just like a humpback but he
01:18:22kind of ran himself into a short
01:18:25hop and did not make it an easy
01:18:26play another step forward he
01:18:28almost catches on the fly but came
01:18:29off the heel of his glove it's
01:18:31going to be an error of
01:18:33Montgomery you see the spin on
01:18:37that ball it hit and actually went
01:18:39back to his right which caused a
01:18:41go off the heel here's Gold
01:18:44Schmidto for two so far tonight
01:18:49it's going to be a good one but
01:18:50Sanchez gets on in front of the
01:18:52top Goldschmidt up and Rice
01:18:55behind him one and one
