00:08This is where you have to take care of the bottom of the order.
00:10They'll keep this at a three spot, and you're giving your team a chance still.
00:15Don't let it snowball from here.
00:28The Brewers have lost five in a row.
00:30They were just swept by the Nationals.
00:32They are 8-7 on the season after starting 8-2.
00:37Swing and a miss, 1-2.
00:40A lot of splitters to Mitchell.
00:41I'm sure he's just going to stick with that pitch.
00:46He's got a catch.
00:54Matos to lead.
00:56Not going.
00:58Line drive left field.
01:00Charging Sanchez makes the catch.
01:04Well, he was coming in with a full head of steam
01:07and almost looked like he pulled up at the last second,
01:10like he almost thought he came in too far.
01:15And he was keeping an eye on that runner at first base.
01:18Matos getting off that bag pretty far.
01:22Looked like as he caught it, he was thinking of maybe coming up firing.
01:25Yeah, he was.
01:25But he didn't get a grip on the baseball.
01:28He did.
01:29Last second adjustment there, didn't he?
01:30It could have been lights.
01:31It could have been, you know, maybe it was knuckling a little bit on him.
01:34Who knows?
01:35Here's Joey Ortiz, the shortstop.
01:38He could certainly be slicing off the bat of a left-handed hitter like that.
01:46I say Kevin taking care of the bottom of the slam.
01:49This is as a group taking care of the bottom of the slam.
01:51Because defensively, too, you've got to play defense behind him.
01:58Runner goes.
02:00And it's fouled off by Ortiz.
02:09Pat Murphy playing a little hit and run, maybe at the bottom of his order.
02:15About a 1-0 count, hoping for a strike, something he could handle.
02:19Murphy, a long-time head coach.
02:21They don't call them managers in college.
02:23A long-time head coach at both Notre Dame and then had tremendous success at Arizona State.
02:30There's a broken back ground ball.
02:32Slowly hit left side.
02:33Okamoto makes a good play to get Ortiz for the second out.
02:38Matos into second.
02:42Fastball in on his hands.
02:44You can hear the bat break.
02:45Okamoto does a nice job.
02:47Got to go for that baseball.
02:48Cut your shortstop off.
02:50Accurate throw to first.
02:51Nicely done.
02:53With the right angle.
02:54Made a good play.
02:55So two down and a runner with second for David Hamilton.
02:57And that brings Okamoto in a little bit to the edge of the grass.
03:07Shows bunt and takes a strike.
03:10So we mentioned Murphy.
03:11Tremendous success at the college level.
03:14And then Craig Council became the manager of the Brewers.
03:16And Council played for Murphy at Notre Dame.
03:20And he hired Murphy as his bench coach.
03:23Pat Murphy was the bench coach here for eight years.
03:24Then Council went to the Cubs.
03:27Murphy took over as the manager.
03:30And all he's done now is one manager of the year.
03:32Back-to-back seasons.
03:33How about that?
03:36And the best record in all of baseball last year.
03:38They beat the Cubs in the division series.
03:40Then were swept by the Dodgers in the NLCS.
03:48And this is an organization that has to do it very smartly.
03:52It's not a big payroll team.
03:54They're always in the bottom half.
03:55Even bottom third.
03:56Strong farm system.
03:59They traded Freddy Peralta from last season.
04:01Right.
04:02That was one of their first moves.
04:03And before that they had traded Josh Hader, Corbin Burns, Devin Williams.
04:09It seems like they make one of those deals almost every year.
04:12Try to replenish their system.
04:13But again, it's about really keeping payroll down.
04:16They'll trade a guy.
04:18But he's got a year or two before free agency.
04:20Figuring better to get something for him than just let him walk.
04:22And always going to the postseason.
04:25Seven of the last eight seasons.
04:27It is impressive.
04:35Used to be in the American League way back in the day.
04:38Used to be in the old seven-team American League East.
04:41With the Blue Jays.
04:43Became a National League team in 1998.
04:49There you go.
04:511982 went to the World Series.
04:52Lost to the Cardinals.
04:56Swing and a miss.
04:57And Gaussman gets Hamilton to end the inning.
05:00But the Brewers have the lead.
05:02Jake Bowers with a three-run homer.
05:04And it's three to nothing Brewers.
05:08Auto insurance and you could save more than $1,100.
05:13The Senators have punched their ticket to the playoffs.
05:17And tomorrow night they will wrap up the regular season
05:19by hosting the Maple Leafs on Scotiabank.
05:22Wednesday night hockey at 7 Eastern, 4 Pacific, on Sportsnet.
05:28Here at American Family Field.
05:30The roof closed with all kinds of storms in the area.
05:33Tornado warnings about an hour ago.
05:35But haven't seen a recurrence of that.
05:36All of our phones buzzed just moments before first pitch tonight giving us that alert.
05:42But hopefully things are calming down outside as this game moves to the fifth.
05:47Three to nothing Milwaukee with Nathan Lucas leading it off against Jacob Mizorowski.
05:53Lucas was called out on strikes his first time up.
05:56One of four strikeouts Mizorowski has so far.
06:01Grounded to short.
06:02A couple of steps to his right is Ortiz.
06:04And they'll get Lucas by a step.
06:13Mizorowski has been dealing their opening day starter this year.
06:18In his first what should be his first full year in the big leagues.
06:22Now Kazuma Okamoto steps in.
06:25Broke his bat hit a soft liner to second back in the second.
06:35And a slider for a strike.
06:52He's in the zone with his breaking pitch is better than he is with his fastball.
06:55That's a tough one.
06:58And he's in the zone in general much more than he normally is.
07:02Kevin Gossman are probably thinking about.
07:04But that home run that he gave up.
07:07And now Pat Murphy.
07:09And it looks like a member of the training staff of the Brewers coming out to the mound.
07:13I think this was initiated by the catcher Contreras.
07:17Because Mizorowski was waving him back.
07:18And I think Contreras is saying no, no.
07:20He saw something.
07:21It looks like Mizorowski is laughing.
07:23So it looks like everything is okay.
07:25But that was a little bit unusual.
07:27Or maybe did he do something that looked like it could be pain related.
07:30But it was misinterpreted by his catcher.
07:37Right there.
07:38Is he holding his side maybe?
07:40That's where Contreras said, hey, hey, hold on now.
07:42Well, you can understand why Contreras reacted the way he did.
07:47And you can't let pitchers talk you out of those.
07:50Because if he did that, it could be something bothering him.
07:54Swing and a miss.
07:55And he strikes out Okamoto for out number two.
07:59Did not throw him a fastball in that at bat.
08:02Well, Okamoto is seeing more and more spin.
08:04And again, remember I talked earlier about his pull swing.
08:08If you're pulling off the baseball, the pitches away from you and going away from you are going to be
08:14much more difficult to handle.
08:15And they're taking advantage of him right now.
08:21So two down for Andres Jimenez, who was called out on strikes in the third.
08:28Two hits for the Blue Jays.
08:29They both belong to Jesus Sanchez.
08:44The other thing that Mizorowski does, he's got a low release.
08:48So that low release, plus he's six foot seven, great extension.
08:53So it's just tough to pick up, I'm sure, for hitters.
09:04It's as though he's still holding that right side, isn't he?
09:07Yeah, I think Contreras was on to something.
09:09And they may have a talk with him in the dugout after this inning.
09:12The way he put his right hand on his hip again after that pitch.
09:17Jimenez lifts one high and deep to right field.
09:20And it is gone.
09:24Number three on the season for Andres Jimenez.
09:27And the Blue Jays have their first run of the night.
09:30Well, Andres Jimenez will tell you that he's thinking more middle of the field
09:34and keeping the ball down, low line drive oriented.
09:37But he has got some pop in that bat.
09:40And we will see him do this on occasion.
09:42And this was a no-doubter.
09:49What a nice start.
09:50He is off to this season.
09:51And he did this last year as well.
09:53But remember, played through some injuries later on and really had some slumps during
09:59the middle of the season as well.
10:00But a lot of optimism that he could be a much more productive offensive player this year
10:06than he was a year ago.
10:07And that's called staying on the fastball because you're down in the count one and two.
10:10But I'm sure he is just cheating to fastball.
10:12It's in off the plate.
10:13So to get to that pitch, you have to be just sitting on it, cheating a little bit.
10:17And he gets the barrel there.
10:19That's how you have to beat Miserowski.
10:27If he throws a breaking pitch away, you may look silly, but you have to take that gamble
10:31when you're facing a tough, tough pitcher.
10:33It's just 15 and a half games in, but he is the club leader in home runs and RBIs.
10:47Grounded over the mound, right to Ortiz at short.
10:50He'll throw out Valenzuela to retire the side after four and a half.
10:54Brewers three, Blue Jays one.
10:56Let's get an update with Jamie Campbell.
10:59Dan, this is the in-game tracker brought to you by Bet365.
11:02Let's start at Yankee Stadium.
11:05It's a very good left-handed swing, and this is a pretty good fastball.
11:09Ian off the plate.
11:10Not only does he get the barrel to it, but you keep it fair.
11:13You keep that straight.
11:14Normally hitters will come around that base when they'll hook it foul down the right field line.
11:18Great swing overall, but even better is the approach.
11:21Selling out a little bit with two strikes.
11:23It's a gamble hitters don't usually take, but you have to when you're facing a high-powered right-hander like
11:28Miserowski.
11:28So they get one of the three back.
11:32That's a big run, too.
11:33After giving up three, you come back, you punch back with one.
11:37You're right back in this ballgame.
11:39Bottom five, top of the order for Kevin Gaussman to deal with.
11:41Sal Freelich, William Contreras, and Bryce Terang.
11:44Freelich is one for two, had a base hit his last time up.
12:08The 0 1 and Gossman quickly out
12:13in front 0 and 2 71 pitches now
12:16as he gets to work here in the
12:17bottom of the fifth at a pretty
12:24long first inning in terms of
12:25pitch count quick second and
12:27third and then the long fourth
12:29including that three run home
12:30run by Jake Bowers.
12:50The Yankees are having a tough
12:52time tonight.
12:53The Angels are up on them six to
12:55nothing in the Bronx.
12:56The Angels have hit four home
12:58runs in that game.
12:59A wild game between the Angels
13:01and the Yankees last night in
13:02Yankee Stadium.
13:03Mike Trout hit two homers Aaron
13:05Judge hit two homers and the
13:11Angels took a 10 to 8 lead to
13:13the bottom of the ninth inning.
13:14Sent Jordan Romano to the mound
13:16and Romano had been very good so
13:18far this year giving up a run
13:19had he had not given up a run
13:21until last night gave up a two
13:22run home run to Trent Grisham to
13:24tie it and then eventually a
13:25wild pitch thrown by Romano
13:27brought in the winning run for
13:28the Yankees as there is ball for
13:31a lead off walk to Freelich and
13:33that's the third walk given up by
13:35Gaussman who as we all know does
13:37not usually struggle in that
13:39department and that fastball
13:42uncharacteristically got away
13:43from Kevin not even close.
13:48Gaussman did not walk anybody in
13:50either of his first two starts
13:51against the A's or the Rockies
13:52and then walked two and five and
13:54a third against the Dodgers.
13:56Here's Contreras 0 for 1.
14:03Shutdown inning here is so
14:05critical because the Blue Jays by
14:07getting that run back and they
14:08just feel right back in this
14:09game if they don't score there I
14:11guarantee you that dugout is
14:12pretty flat over there down 3 0
14:14facing Miserowskis do you got to
14:16put a zero up here to keep that
14:17momentum in your favor base hit
14:22into right field for Contreras up
14:25to second goes Freelich.
14:34Contreras got to a fastball again
14:36this went out over the plate
14:37catches a lot of play down to 93
14:39from Gaussman smoking it into
14:42right.
14:47and the Brewers are threatening the
14:49first two have reached to the
14:51bottom of the fifth for Bryce
14:55Terang one for two had a base hit
14:57and scored last inning Komodo even
15:01with a bag at third Guerrero
15:03backed up at first
15:09and Gaussman jumps out in front
15:11and Gaussman jumps out in front
15:34of the game in 2018 came out of
15:35high school did not make his
15:36major league debut until 2023 as a
15:4023 year old and has just been
15:42getting better and better every
15:43year.
15:48Two balls and a strike.
15:57It's a team that does not chase a
15:59whole lot so that's Kevin's game
16:01is to try to get them to chase that
16:02and split her down they've been
16:03pretty good in that department
16:04tonight.
16:25And a cold strike it is two and
16:27two and activity in the bullpen.
16:31Braden Fisher has just gotten up.
16:37Everybody had a day off yesterday.
16:39Obviously Fisher has had two days
16:40off he pitched two innings on
16:42Saturday didn't pitch Sunday.
16:44Now full.
16:53A tough spot here you've got a guy
16:55that's not chasing the splitter
16:57down the last thing you want to
16:58do is give him a three two
16:59fastball on the plate and a low
17:08fastball fouled off still full.
17:20Take your chances with that
17:21splitter maybe throw that one that
17:23carries the bottom of the zone.
17:25As opposed to the put away
17:26slitter.
17:27Three two again and it's a fastball
17:30and it's fouled back.
17:32It's been finding a little more
17:34velocity here on these last couple
17:35of pitches both of them ninety
17:36five.
17:46A number of ninety fives here in
17:48this at bat to terrain big spot
17:49here in the fifth inning swung on
17:52and miss he got him for out
17:53number one.
17:55There it is kept it close enough
17:57and I think it's the two fastballs
17:58ahead of that pitch you've got him
18:00in swing mode and that's why it's
18:02so important for Kevin to be in
18:03the zone with this four seam
18:05fastball get the hitter in that
18:06swing mode and that may have
18:08helped him get that swing and
18:09miss on the splitter.
18:13Now Gary Sanchez.
18:18Flied out to left in the first
18:20walked and scored in the fourth.
18:23It's been working him inside.
18:26First two plate appearances.
18:32All in one Sanchez after a number
18:37of years with the Yankees played
18:39for the twins the Mets the
18:40Padres the Brewers the Orioles
18:42and out back to the Brewers.
18:46Still a dangerous power threat.
18:53Thirty three years of age.
19:05All in one Sanchez look back by
19:07Gaussman and the 0 1 got him the
19:10swing over the top of it on two
19:17back to back splitters to get
19:19ahead.
19:31Tried it again Sanchez wouldn't
19:33chase he had worked some fastballs
19:35inside on Sanchez earlier this is
19:37the time that maybe after these
19:39splitters you could sneak a fast
19:40ball in there maybe jam him and
19:42get a weak round ball because he's
19:44a guy you can turn to on.
19:53Long look back at Freelich the
19:55runner at second.
19:56On the appeal did not go and it
19:59is two and two.
20:04I think he's told us how he wants
20:06to get him out.
20:08Splitters.
20:11All four pitches in this at bat
20:13so far that fastball in on his
20:15hands right there exactly what
20:19you asked for very shallow
20:22center field and it'll be
20:24Clement to make the catch for the
20:26second out that was tricky nice
20:29job by Ernie the outfielders both
20:31Varsho and Lucas were taking a
20:33while to come in usually you'll
20:36see the outfielder try to call
20:37the infielder off but Ernie
20:39stays with it something he has to
20:41do but he did a little twirly to
20:42there to Varsho kind of looking
20:45strange and an alert Kevin
20:48Gossman getting to second base
20:49trying to get out of this inning.
20:53So two down can he finish it off
20:55he's got to deal with Jake
20:56Bowers who homered off him his
20:58last time up.
21:03And a strike catches the outside
21:06corner barely if it did and it's
21:08going to want real high target that
21:10time from balance will remember
21:11the homerun was a fastball down in
21:13the zone out in front oh and to
21:25trying to elevate this time because
21:27on the homerun last ball down in
21:29the zone and he raked it out of
21:31there going the other way it's a lot
21:35of power to the opposite field sure
21:36is what's the setup from balance
21:38whale here.
21:42Oh to pitch and a broken a
21:45backgrounder rolled up the middle
21:47him and has got a hurry and they get
21:49him by a step and after the first
21:52two reached Kevin Gossman does an
21:54outstanding job to get out of it and
21:57Jimenez makes the play behind him and
21:59it's still three to one Milwaukee now
22:01at the end of five.
22:07Back again this season Barbie Day
22:10returns to Rogers Center on May 9th
22:12the first 15,000 fans will receive a
22:15reversible Barbie bucket hat celebrate
22:18all things Barbie with music performers
22:20and activities throughout the ballpark.
22:22Grab your tickets now at Blue Jays dot com
22:25slash promotions got some Jays fans
22:29scattered around American family
22:31field here for this midweek series
22:34between the Blue Jays and the
22:35Brewers it's 3 1 Milwaukee top six
22:38and the top of the order to face
22:39Jacob Mizorowski Ernie Clement getting
22:41his third look at the hard throw
22:43and right hander.
22:48The man is over to most of his
22:52teammates are also over to the only
22:54exceptions they sue Sanchez two for
22:57two with a couple of base hits and
22:59Andres Jimenez one for two with a
23:00home run bounce to short backhanded
23:04by Ortiz good play to get him.
23:11That's what Mizorowski does by
23:13setting up the fastball a couple
23:15of times just gets you out front of
23:16the slider because one that's why
23:18when he gets ahead like that it
23:20wasn't like that at the start of
23:21the game but he is just throwing
23:22firing strike one to every hitter
23:25since number two hitter again
23:27tonight is Dalton Varshow strikeout
23:30and a fly ball to left and Varshow
23:33hits one a long way to right field
23:35free look back at the wall it's
23:38gone third home run of the season
23:44for Dalton Varshow and the Blue Jays
23:47are back within one.
23:54Oh don't look like he was just
23:56trying to be on time to the fastball
23:58and he timed that slider up from the
24:01right handed pitcher it's coming into
24:03him and with his bat speed when he
24:05squares it up the chances leaving the
24:07ballpark boy is he hot right now seven
24:11seven for his last 17 including three
24:14homers and two doubles here's
24:18Vladdy that's the benefit of having
24:23a breaking ball coming into you
24:26coming right into his swing plane
24:28and he did not miss it that's just
24:35off the corner activity now in the
24:38Milwaukee pen the lefty is D.L. Hall
24:42the righty is Grant Anderson now
24:51Guerrero shoots a ball to right
24:53field and that's a base hit blocked
24:57by Freelich to keep it in front of
24:59him but it's a one out single for
25:00Guerrero well I'm not sure if he's
25:05trying to bury this line look like
25:07maybe he was trying to backdoor it
25:08but the danger you have when you're
25:10pitching to Don Varshow is that
25:12breaking ball and off speed pitch of
25:13any sort coming back into him right
25:16into that swing plane it's a big
25:18mistake to a very dangerous hitter
25:23took him a while to get going this
25:24year but boy is he going right now
25:26and now William Contreras may be
25:28buying a little bit of time for the
25:29bullpen to get going and now here
25:34comes Pat Murphy this could be it as
25:36the Milwaukee manager is making a
25:38slow stroll out towards the first
25:39baseline the left hand hitting
25:42Jesus Sanchez is due up and Murphy
25:44just made the signal he wants the
25:45lefty in D.L. Hall so Mizorowski out
25:49of this game with a one out here in
25:57the sixth catch every game of the
26:01Stanley Cup playoffs it all begins
26:03Saturday on Sportsnet now the Blue
26:09Jays have gotten back into this one a
26:11fourth or a fifth inning home run by
26:13Andres Jimenez and then another home
26:15run here in the sixth from Dalton
26:16Varsho and you can see the image of
26:18left-hander D.L. Hall as Pat Murphy has
26:21gone to his bullpen of our show
26:22enjoyed that his third of the season
26:25and here is Hall who in his third year
26:27with the Brewers came over in that same
26:29trade with Joey Ortiz for Corbin Burns a
26:32couple of years ago has not given up a
26:34run has not given up many hits Joe but
26:35he has had some control problems had
26:37some control issues and against the
26:39lefty Sanchez you'll see a lot of the
26:40sinker sweeper combination see if
26:43Sanchez can't get on to one of those
26:46sinkers Guerrero the tying run at
26:47first one out and that's outside ball
26:50one he has walked six in his seven
26:56and two-thirds innings although he has
26:57not given up an earned run yet this
26:59season fly ball left center playable for
27:10Mitchell he'll make the catch Guerrero
27:13will take about four five steps off
27:15the bag to watch the throw but then
27:16retreat to first two down so now
27:25Aloy Jimenez D.H.ing for the second
27:29game for the Blue Jays with George
27:30Springer on the I.L. Jimenez two
27:32for four on Sunday 0 for two and a
27:33couple of fly ball outs tonight
28:00at least as of now Nathan Lucas is
28:02still in the on deck circle but a
28:04lefty on the mound Hall's got to
28:05face him he's got to face three
28:06batters and the Blue Jays do have
28:08Lenin Sosa Davis Schneider among
28:10others in that dugout he's ready
28:14he looks ready bouncer to first and
28:18the play will be made by Bowers to
28:21retire the side the Blue Jays get
28:23the one on the Varshow Homer and
28:25are back within one here in
28:38Milwaukee don't miss loony dogs night
28:41presented by Schneider's every
28:43Tuesday home game of the twenty
28:44twenty six season last week over
28:46one hundred thousand loony dogs were
28:49consumed the next loony dogs night
28:51comes your way April 28th grab your
28:54tickets at Blue Jays dot com slash
28:57tickets and one of the mainstays one
29:03of the most recognizable things here
29:05in Milwaukee forever and ever and
29:06ever the sausage race they've got the
29:10president's race in Washington the
29:12sausage race here Kevin Gossman back
29:16on the mound to begin the bottom of
29:17the six a little up and in ball one
29:20to Luis Matos you and I guessed
29:22wrong on this yes I love this though
29:24and I just wonder if Kevin Gossman
29:25is saying to his manager there is no
29:27way I'm going five innings this
29:29team needs length out of its
29:30starters that took the mask right
29:33off of Valenzuela but he tells
29:35David Rackley he's all right one on
29:36one is he pitching inside to right
29:38he's a lot more than we're
29:39accustomed to seeing tonight that's
29:41what it seems like to me I love it
29:42yeah he doesn't have a two seam
29:45fastball that's going to run in
29:46there so why not throw the four
29:48seamer in there it's been getting
29:49inside on a lot of these right
29:51handers he's always been much more
29:58of a north-south guy with a fastball
30:00splitter combo rather than an east
30:02west guy is now good buddies Fisher
30:05and Flewhardy are up
30:06simultaneously in the Blue Jays pen
30:17driven to deep left center field a
30:20long run for Varshow he'll have to
30:22play it off the wall got it back in in
30:25a hurry and Matos turned around and
30:28went back to first that's about as
30:31long of a single as you'll ever see we
30:33have seen more and more opposing
30:35base runners trying to take advantage
30:37of the arm of Don Varshow what do you
30:38do when you get to the baseball get
30:41rid of it as quickly as possible and
30:43that will shut down a runner Dalton
30:45bare hands this ball off the wall get
30:47rid of it and immediately the runner
30:49shuts it down I think he had a shot to
30:52go to second base but because he saw
30:53them saw him bare handed so quickly he
30:55stopped Kevin Kiermaier used to tell
30:57me that all the time his first goal is
30:59just get rid of it get rid of it as
31:01quickly as you can and try to scare him
31:02back to the base and it worked worked it
31:05shouldn't work because we've seen the
31:07struggles don'ts had throwing after his
31:09shoulder surgery Brandon Lockridge is
31:13running at first for Matos and John
31:15Schneider has come to the mound and
31:17called for Mason Flewharty so Kevin
31:21Gosman does get into the sixth but
31:23faces just one batter gives up the base
31:27hit and now they will hand it off to
31:29the bullpen
31:35well Dalton of our show knows he
31:37doesn't have the strongest arm in the
31:38world but if you can get to it quickly
31:40and get rid of it quickly you can scare
31:43him back every now and again and Luis
31:45Matos was halfway to second then
31:47turned around and went back and it's
31:49the way he picked it cleanly off the
31:50wall too with his bare hand and
31:51menace ends up missing the baseball I
31:53still think as an opposing base runner
31:55you still have to challenge him even
31:57though he comes up with it cleanly
31:58like that he is going to try to get
32:00it to the cutoff man as quickly as
32:01possible or to that base so Kevin
32:05Gosman done for the night Lockridge
32:09the pinch runner that runner his
32:10responsibility Mason Flewharty is in
32:12to face the left hand hitting Garrett
32:14Mitchell who squares and takes down and
32:16away ball one
32:23both Vladdy and Okamoto charging hard on
32:26that bunt attempt
32:27it's hit hard right at them they might
32:29have a shot at second base
32:34popped up back into the screen one
32:36and one
32:38Lockridge runs very well so it would
32:40have to be a real bad but hard right
32:42at you to think about going to second
32:44it's going to be a real bad ball
32:45Milwaukee will play this brand of
32:47baseball more than most bottom part of
32:56the order Mitchell the number seven
32:58hitter he squares again and it is
33:02two balls and a strike the hardy
33:08pitched a scoreless inning striking
33:10out a pair on Sunday against the
33:19against the game and the first
33:19wins Lockridge the lead being held
33:36on by Guerrero Okamoto in at third
33:41it is outside now three and one I
33:52don't think he'll be running with
33:53nobody out with the left hander on
33:55the mound that will neutralize in a
33:56little bit ball four so it's first
34:06first and second with nobody out wonder
34:14sometimes to that hitter squaring can
34:16distract the pitcher and look like
34:18flew hard he's fighting the zone that
34:20whole at bat now the shortstop Joey
34:22Ortiz who has hit a couple of ground
34:24balls to third and he's a possible
34:28bunting candidate as well it's a
34:32little bit different here because it's a
34:33force play at third right so maybe a
34:35little bit easier to get the lead
34:37runner depending on where he bunts it
34:39such good speed on the bases though all
34:41you've got to do is get it on the
34:42ground and a pitch clock a timing
34:45violation on Ortiz so it's going to be
34:480 and 1 I wonder if that changes their
34:52game plan now that they just lost a
34:54strike he squares nice and early
35:03keeps it out there and bunts it to
35:05third perfectly executed by Ortiz to
35:08advance the runners on a sacrifice
35:13well you can't lay it down any
35:15better than that he butts it right
35:16at the third baseman you force him to
35:18come and field the baseball so that
35:20the runners can move up Lottie's
35:22charging hard Okamoto's coming his
35:25only play is the first base textbook
35:29so it is second and third with one
35:31out of Alan's whale has gone to the
35:33mound the infield looks like they're
35:36going to be playing in and out Pete
35:38Walker wants to join this
35:39conversation it is a pinch hitter
35:43Luis Renjifo is in the on next
35:46circle the bat for David Hamilton
35:48that's what all this is about
35:52veteran switch hitting infield
35:54former Angel you can see him right
35:56there with his right hand looking
35:58back to his hitting coach and
36:00mimicking the release points of
36:02pitches as if to say he's got this
36:04and a this and a this right the
36:06cutter and the sweeper from Flew
36:09Hardy he's mixed in the odd changeup
36:11away to righties but I don't think
36:12we're going to see it these big time
36:14situations
36:22this is where the speed of the
36:24Milwaukee Brewers comes to play when I
36:26said coming into this series they're
36:27not swinging it a whole lot they've
36:29got guys injured they're going to try
36:30to create havoc this inning is
36:33showing it right here this where
36:34defense becomes critical Lockridge the
36:38runner at third Mitchell at second one
36:40out and the infield in for Renjifo
36:46fouls it off 0-1
36:51I like the idea of throwing that
36:53cutter from Flew Hardy in on the
36:54right handers hands you're trying to
36:56get him jammed so that he can't flip a
36:59baseball out to the outfield to cash in
37:00a run in the air because Renjifo's
37:02batting for the right side Okamoto's
37:04playing very close to third base and
37:06that prevents Lockridge from getting
37:08much of a lead over a third and that
37:12could be the difference in the play
37:13at the plate if there were to be
37:15one
37:19couple of strikes on him and and
37:21obviously Dalton Varshow's got
37:22information about Renjifo with two
37:24strikes because he just went to a
37:25whole different part of center
37:26field after the count went to own
37:28two two strikes going up now that's
37:32a foul ball he's going for the swing
37:37and miss there but I still like the
37:39harder pitch the cutter in on Renjifo
37:41right here I think by flipping that
37:43sweeper out over the plate slower
37:45speed you're allowing him even if
37:46you're out front to flip the barrel
37:48to the baseball to flip it out to
37:49the outfield so the the cut in stay
37:52hard yes and maybe a ground ball to
37:54third or something like that or a
37:55jam shot pop up any of that yeah but
37:57nothing hard hit to the outfield if
37:59you stay in and it's got to be
38:00elevated to right there again swing
38:05and a miss and a big second out for
38:07flew Hardy well he will take it it
38:10wasn't perfect they were trying to
38:12come up and in and he missed up and
38:14away but it worked not Renjifo's best
38:22swing two down and now flew Hardy has
38:26a lefty lefty matchup with Sal
38:27Freelich the infield can back up
38:30although Okamoto is still playing
38:32even a step or two inside the bag
38:34at third and a Freelich takes a
38:37strike free look a pop up a base
38:44hit and a walk strike two and you
38:58saw Valenzuela had to reach for it it
39:00wasn't where it was designed to be but
39:01it was in the zone good job by
39:03Brandon too he set up away but look
39:05where the pitch is he goes over there
39:06but he holds it there gives the umpire a
39:08good look to get the call the 0-2 pitch
39:12that's high you don't always get those
39:15calls when you have to reach across your
39:22body the Brewers threatening flew
39:24Hardy trying to keep it at a one run
39:26game the 1 2 pitch he went around and
39:33flew Hardy gets up he walked the
39:37first battery face but then he
39:39retired the next three the last two
39:41by strikeout and Mason flew Hardy gets
39:45the job done folks why not come out to
39:54the ballpark for a little Sunday
39:55afternoon baseball April 26th it's the
39:58Blue Jays taking on the Guardians
40:00first pitch is set for 1 37 a p.m.
40:03get your tickets now at Blue Jays dot com
40:06slash tickets double of hockey fans here
40:10at American Family Field in Milwaukee and
40:12we've got a good ball game going it's 3-2
40:14Milwaukee top seven left hander Angel
40:17Serpa is into the game Serpa pitched on
40:20Sunday against Washington took his first
40:22loss of the season just two-thirds of an
40:24inning giving up four runs and he will get
40:27Davis Schneider he's a left hander that
40:29will use the sinker slider combination a
40:31lot and a lot of sinkers to right handed
40:33hitters so Schneider pinch hitting for
40:36Nathan Lucas and the seventh inning is
40:49underway with a strike couple of
40:50defensive changes for the Brewers as
40:52well Lockridge stays in the game
40:53and left and run he foe stays in the
40:58game at third Schneider productive in
41:08limited opportunities oh man that is
41:17as big a hack as he can take and he
41:19is known as a guy who takes a big
41:21hack slider is coming back into his
41:30game I think he was trying to tie the
41:32game swing and a miss Serpa will get
41:37him one down are you a Rodgers
41:45customer watch for Canada's winning
41:47inning during the game when the Blue
41:49Jays get a hit you could win amazing
41:50prizes courtesy of Rodgers beyond the
41:53seat one down here is Kazuma Okamoto
41:580 for 2 Okamoto hitting in the seven
42:23spot tonight Serpa a big part of team
42:26Venezuela the winning team in the WBC he
42:30made six scoreless appearances in the
42:32WBC for Venezuela that is going to be
42:39gloved on a couple of bounces it's
42:41short a great play by Ortiz but
42:43Okamoto beats it out for a base hit
42:49well it cost Okamoto a bat but he
42:52will make that trade right now for
42:54certain great effort by the shortstop
42:58Ortiz coming up but Okamoto just beats
43:00it out so the tying run is aboard
43:05with one out of the seventh and
43:07here's Andres Jimenez who was a
43:09teammate of Serpa's of course on
43:11team Venezuela at the WBC a man has
43:17homered his last time up his third
43:32of the season grounded to third on
43:37the second for one in the back to
43:39first that's a 5 6 3 double play
43:42turned by the Brewers and that is
43:44that for the Blue Jays here in the
43:46top of the seventh
43:55a pitcher's duel early between Kevin
43:57Gossman and Jacob Mizorowski
43:59Jake Bowers with a three-run homer in
44:01the fourth for the Brewers the Blue
44:02Jays responded with home runs from
44:04Andres Jimenez and Dolphin Varsha
44:06it's a one-run game going bottom seven
44:08and here's Braden Fisher six games for
44:11Fisher now he's pitched eight in the
44:12third innings just one walk against
44:14the Twins 10 strikeouts pitched two
44:15scoreless innings on Friday against
44:18the Twins striking up four
44:23back into the bullpen has been very
44:25very good for the Blue Jays William
44:28Contreras is going to lead it off two
44:29three four in the Brewers lineup here
44:32this inning
44:35and Tarras a walk
44:37popped up and foul territory and then
44:39he's got a base hit Davis Schneider
44:43remains in the game and left and
44:44that'll move Jesus Sanchez over to
44:46right after Schneider pinch hit for
44:49Nathan Lucas everybody's booing but
44:54it was a curveball and it's one and
44:55one
45:09high fly to shallow left over towards
45:12the line it's going to be Jimenez the
45:14shortstop going way out there to make
45:17the catch one down
45:20well I just really takes charge here
45:22and that's what you want from your
45:23shortstop especially with Davis
45:25Schneider just entering the game in
45:26left field
45:28take charge take control and
45:31take it yourself
45:36one down for Fisher and now Bryce
45:38Terang one for three singled and
45:40scored in the fourth
45:43little buckle there from Terang on
45:45that breaking ball in for a strike
45:46he trains got that big leg kick and
45:48he really rides that back hip
45:51that's what drives his success maybe
45:53slow it down with those slower
45:54curveball Fisher's thinking
45:59and again in there and so in two
46:01back to back curves for called
46:03strikes
46:04hitters like this will have that
46:06back front leg up and they'll be
46:07in that back hip ready to hit and
46:09fire on a fastball but
46:11only mess with their timing with the
46:12slow breaker
46:16Fisher opting for the slider there
46:17and it's fouled off
46:35high fastball for ball one
46:40Abner Uribe is up in the Brewers
46:43pen and he falls into the nasty
46:46category we say that a lot
46:49don't be at the knees for strike three
46:55cold and out number two well
46:57Braden Fisher really threw him a
46:59wrinkle by slowing up those
47:01breaking pitches and Brandon
47:03Valenzuela may have bought him his
47:06pitcher a strikeout looks like it's
47:08just below the zone a nice job again
47:10by the young catcher really feeling
47:12comfortable behind the plate right
47:13now Brewers still do have one
47:15challenge remaining but Terang
47:16hopes not to use it the Blue Jays
47:18are out of challenges two down and
47:20here's Gary Sanchez
47:23and he has kind of a late swing on
47:25that slider there and swings under
47:27the bottom of it it's own one see
47:28some funny swings at Fisher's
47:30slider right it can sometimes almost
47:31look like it's backing up
47:41he got a lot of this one though and
47:43hits a towering fly ball to left
47:46and into the second deck for a home
47:49run to make it four to two
48:00well you said it earlier Gary Sanchez
48:02is a very dangerous hitter
48:07Braden Fisher opted to go back to that
48:09curveball but he left that in his
48:11wheelhouse hung on the inner half
48:22first run given up this season by
48:25Braden Fisher
48:26and the lead is back to two for the
48:32Brewers here's Jake Bowers who gave
48:35them that lead with a three run homer
48:37back in the fourth one and one
49:06two balls and a strike and that's at
49:25the knees good spot there for the
49:26left on the third left curve ball
49:27two and two
49:33Bowers asked for his timeout
49:35and we see Fisher shaking and then
49:40nodding as he before Bowers
49:41gets back in the box Valenzuela
49:43is sending the sign out his way.
50:00We talked earlier about Fisher
50:03using that fastball a little bit
50:04more just to be a little more
50:05unpredictable haven't seen a lot
50:07of them tonight.
50:12Didn't throw it there the slider
50:14fouled back he got three called
50:16strikeouts with the fastball on
50:19Saturday and all of them were
50:20down near the knees and he told
50:21us Graham Johnson the bullpen
50:24coach for the Blue Jays said he's
50:25trying to get the ball down aim
50:27for the plate like aim for the
50:28ground where the plate is try to
50:29spike it.
50:30Yeah.
50:31He stays with the curb but it gets
50:32Bowers so he strikes out two in
50:34the inning but he does surrender a
50:36home run to Gary Sanchez it is for
50:38two Brewers at the end of seven
50:39and time now for a Blue Jays
50:41Central update with Jamie and
50:43Madison.
50:54On Sunday and you could be next
50:57sales are open for the next 50 50
50:59homestand jackpot and there are
51:01some incredible prizes up for
51:02grabs including a trip to see the
51:04Blue Jays in Boston and a dream
51:06getaway to Bora Bora.
51:08This is Blue Jays dot com slash 50
51:1050 to get your tickets from
51:11participating provinces.
51:14Have you ever been to Bora Bora?
51:16No.
51:16I haven't either.
51:17Should try it.
51:19I don't think they have a
51:19professional baseball team.
51:21I don't need to go work.
51:22Yeah that's true I was thinking of
51:25Leisure.
51:26Yes it is for two Brewers go to
51:28the top of the eighth inning and
51:29here is Abner Uribe.
51:32Uribe six games he gave up a
51:34couple runs in his last outing
51:36two of the three runs he's given
51:37up this season happening in his
51:39last outing high 97 plus mile
51:42per hour sinker and a slider two
51:43pitches.
51:43And Lenin Sosa is going to make
51:46his Blue Jays debut pinch hitting
51:49for Brandon Valenzuela just
51:56acquired yesterday for a minor
51:59league outfielder and either a
52:01player to be named later or cash
52:02considerations off to a slow
52:04start with the White Sox this
52:06year last year hit twenty two
52:09home runs and drove in seventy
52:10five he is an aggressive hitter.
52:16He plays second third and first
52:19but is not a great defender he is
52:22a below average defender but they
52:25got him to start against lefties
52:27and John Schneider said at times to
52:29start against righties at least
52:30until some of the other guys get
52:31healthy.
52:33They're looking for a bit of a
52:34spark.
52:36There's a strike and it's two and
52:37one.
52:38Well he knows right now the Blue
52:39Jays need a base runner he needs
52:40to find a way to get on to bring
52:42that tying run to the plate and
52:44the lineup turns over.
52:52Twenty six years of age from
52:54Venezuela again two sixty four
52:56twenty two homers seventy five
52:57driven in last year only walked
52:59eighteen times struck out one
53:02hundred and twenty seven times.
53:05But it was productive because of
53:07the power.
53:15the power to center field dropping
53:17to center field dropping for a
53:17base hit.
53:21Let's go to Hazel Sosa told me he
53:24wasn't expecting the trade he said
53:26it was very surprising obviously
53:28because he felt a little sad to
53:32leave the Chicago White Sox and
53:34join the Blue Jays.
53:35But right now he's feeling good and
53:37he was told that he will get his
53:38opportunities to play something he
53:40didn't get a whole lot of in
53:42Chicago earlier this year.
53:44Dan Hazel thank you.
53:45They the Blue Jays optioned Tyler
53:48Fitzgerald to Buffalo to make room
53:49for Sosa.
53:51Here's Ernie Clement.
53:53So it's top of the order.
53:55Clement representing the tying run.
53:58Ernie tonight.
53:59He's got a good one side 0 for 3.
54:13Hooked foul.
54:14Front of the slider and it's 0 and
54:162.
54:18You're gearing up for the ninety
54:19seven you might be out front of
54:21the slider but the big part of.
54:23Sosa getting on base is depending
54:25on what.
54:25Ernie can do you've got two big
54:27time power bats coming up in
54:28Varsha and Gladi and you've got a
54:30big hole on the right side of the
54:31infield right now as well.
54:34On the appeal he went around
54:36Clement didn't like it but he is
54:39out that is out number one.
54:42Now the good slider from Uribe and
54:45Ernie just cannot hold up.
54:47Very close.
54:53That's the worst half a second
54:55right there when you feel like he
54:57didn't go and then when you look
54:59down at the first base umpire
55:00you're just hoping to see his
55:01hands come up.
55:02Here's Dalton Varsha.
55:09Varsha homered his last time up.
55:14His third of the season and they
55:16have all come in his last four
55:18games.
55:26Swings over the top of it one and
55:27one.
55:31Tommy Dance and Tyler Rogers both
55:34getting loose.
55:37Good sink to that pitch from the
55:39Reba.
55:43And ninety nine.
55:47Broken to bat fly ball shallow
55:50center and down for a base hit.
55:52Sosa's trying for third and is
55:56safe.
55:59Or will he be?
56:01The Brewers may have a look at it.
56:04Sosa made the turn and came to
56:07third is called save.
56:08Varsha was into second.
56:11Will the Brewers challenge?
56:15They are going to.
56:17This was a little bit too
56:18aggressive I think when you're
56:20down two runs this late right in
56:22front of the center fielder.
56:24Garrett Mitchell has a good arm in
56:27center.
56:35The throw was off to the left a
56:37little bit.
56:38It is his left leg which was his
56:41lead leg isn't the one that
56:43eventually got to the base.
56:45His back foot got to the bag.
56:49And did that happen before the tag
56:51on the chest?
57:03He seems pretty relaxed about it
57:05right now talking to Ren Hifo but
57:07this is a nervous moment in his
57:09Blue Jay debut.
57:11The call on the field is safe.
57:13Will that make the difference?
57:15Will that be the difference?
57:30The awkward slide could be what's
57:32making this difficult to determine.
57:45There's the crew chief Chris
57:46Guccione.
57:53They are having a long look at
57:55this one.
58:04This might be the longest one of
58:06these we've seen this season.
58:08And it's a big one.
58:09And could it be because of the way
58:11he bounced at the bag the way he
58:12went in so hard?
58:16Either way it was too much of a
58:17gamble for me in this situation.
58:19Down two.
58:20Down two.
58:20Take the 90 feet.
58:21You've got two on.
58:23And one out.
58:24And Vlade coming.
58:25Those are all things you have to
58:26consider as a base runner.
58:30And we'll see.
58:31Hopefully he gets away with it.
58:35Here it comes.
58:42Maybe not.
58:45After the call on the field stands,
58:47a runner is safe.
58:48Milwaukee will lose our challenge.
58:50They dodged one there, Joe.
58:52Yep.
58:53The way Garrett Mitchell was coming up
58:55making that throw and he's pretty
58:56he's got a good throwing arm.
58:58He was just off to the left of here.
58:59And that's what cost him.
59:01And he took a gamble.
59:03So it did and won.
59:04That was about as close as it gets.
59:06And the Blue Jays,
59:07it feels like they were fortunate
59:09that that didn't get overturned.
59:11So now the tying runs
59:12are in scoring position.
59:14There's a base open.
59:15The batter is Guerrero.
59:21Infield is back.
59:23And Guerrero takes it for a strike.
59:26This is an interesting move by Pat Murphy.
59:28Now he would be the go-ahead run
59:30if you put him on.
59:31But clearly he's saying
59:32I'll take my chances.
59:33So Sanchez in the on-deck circle
59:35providing a little protection.
59:36This is the Blue Jays' first at bat tonight
59:39with a runner in scoring position.
59:44An area in which they have struggled
59:46really ever since
59:47about the first four games of the season.
59:51They are near the bottom in the majors.
59:54And how they have done
59:55with the runners in scoring position.
