00:00I believe it is to 17 yes to 17 on the season. That is 25th in the majors.
00:12Guerrero pulls one to short. This will get a run home.
00:15But Guerrero is out so a ground out produces a run to make it a one run game.
00:20Sosa's in Varsha the third but two down. He went to the slider and got him out front got him
00:25to roll over.
00:27And I think Urube will take that off the bat of Lottie.
00:35And here comes Chris Hook the pitching coach for the Brewers on his way to the mound.
00:42Sue Sanchez is the batter.
00:49If you look at the offensive differences between these two teams and granted the Brewers are a little bit better
00:56than the Brewers.
00:56The Blue Jays if you look at a number of different categories but then you look at the runs scored
01:00and they're way ahead of the Blue Jays.
01:02And it's almost entirely what the two teams have done with runners in scoring position.
01:07The Blue Jays are 217 with zero home runs with runners in scoring position.
01:12The Brewers came in at 291 with nine home runs with runners in scoring position.
01:17And Jake Bowers hit one tonight.
01:19It's just night and day the way these two teams have performed in key situations.
01:25And Leidy cashed in a run there but not with a hit.
01:31Trying to bring both in to tie the game.
01:33And they get one home now.
01:34It's up to Sanchez.
01:35Who is two for three on the night.
01:37The tying run at third.
01:38And Varsha can get a big lead because Sanchez is a left-handed batter.
01:41And he goes way off the line.
01:43Anything in the dirt could get interesting.
01:54Slider in there for a strike.
01:59Sanchez hit both fastballs off Mizorowski earlier in the night on his base.
02:04It's both fastballs inside.
02:15In the dirt but Contreras keeps it with him.
02:20Again anything that bounces away you know that Varsha will be thinking hard about racing home.
02:26And pretty tough to get down and block.
02:2899 sinker.
02:29You wanted to just try to pick it and he did.
02:32A lot of movement.
02:38Swing and a miss one and two.
03:01Just foul boy he almost squibbed that up the line to tie the game.
03:09It would have been his third hit of the game.
03:11Similar style.
03:12Just finding holes.
03:15He did go to the slider.
03:17I thought he was going to try to get him out with the slider.
03:19And he still might.
03:20But just missing.
03:21That third base bag.
03:23Maybe a foot.
03:34Again the 1-2.
03:36And it's fouled off at the plate.
03:47Good job by Sanchez getting to that pitch.
03:51Elevated at 97.
04:07And again the 1-2.
04:09And again the 1-2.
04:09And it's taken low.
04:13That was triple digits.
04:16With Sink.
04:29Now the 2-2.
04:32Grounded out to short.
04:33Ortiz has it.
04:35And the Blue Jays will get just the 1.
04:39To the bottom of the game.
04:40The Brewers lead 4-3.
04:50James Wan and Blumhouse bring you a new terrifying horror.
04:54In Lee Cronin's The Mummy.
04:56In theaters April 17.
05:02Bottom of the 8th inning here at American Family Field in Milwaukee.
05:06It's the Brewers for the Blue Jays 3.
05:10And as the Blue Jays got one in the top of the 8th inning.
05:13Still trailed by one.
05:14And here's Tyler Rogers into the game.
05:1635-year-old right-hander.
05:18Seven games.
05:19For the Blue Jays pitched on Sunday.
05:21A scoreless inning.
05:24From down under.
05:28Sinker slider to these righties.
05:30And mostly sinkers to lefties.
05:34Tyler Heinemann now.
05:35That's a good sign that he's good to go.
05:37Yeah.
05:38Back spasms bothering him.
05:40He didn't play at all over the weekend.
05:42But the off day yesterday.
05:43Got some treatment.
05:44Feels better.
05:45So he's in there.
05:45That allowed them to pinch at Sosa for Valenzuela.
05:491-1.
05:50The count on Brandon Lockridge.
06:12Bounced back towards the mound.
06:14Rogers has it.
06:15And on to first in time for the out.
06:18As we say hello again to Hazel.
06:19Tyler Rogers and Kevin Gossman were teammates for two seasons in San Francisco.
06:24But he also told me that Tyler Heinemann caught him for his very first career save back in 2019.
06:31Also as member of the Giants.
06:33The two of course reunited here with the Blue Jays.
06:37And Heinemann tells me that Rogers and that familiarity between the two can only be an advantage working together.
06:42Guys.
06:43No question about it.
06:44Tyler Heinemann has.
06:45He's bounced around.
06:46He's been around a little bit.
06:47Yes.
06:47Miami, San Francisco, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Boston, Toronto.
06:54He couldn't get enough of Toronto and they couldn't get enough of him.
06:57He's been with the Blue Jays three different times.
06:58And that's just the major league teams that he has been with.
07:02He's been with five or six other organizations in their minds.
07:06He's been with the Blue Jays three different times over the years.
07:09He's been with the Blue Jays three different times over the years.
07:14Two and O the count on Garrett Mitchell who swings through it.
07:17It's two and one.
07:22Four runs, seven hits, no errors for the Brewers.
07:24Three runs, eight hits, and no errors for the Blue Jays.
07:27The Brewers have left seven.
07:28The Blue Jays have left four.
07:34Outside.
07:35Three and one.
07:49And a ground ball backhanded out at short.
07:52Him man is a little trouble getting it out of the glove.
07:55And that may have been the difference.
07:59Garrett Mitchell gets down the line very well, and you just cannot afford a bobble.
08:05The man is frustrated with himself, just could not get a clean handle of the baseball in this exchange.
08:10And that bobble right there cost him.
08:20There's that speed again from this Brewers lineup that can put pressure on the defense.
08:25And let's see if Mitchell's in the mood to try to steal second.
08:28The batter was Joey Ortiz.
08:31Runner not going, and it's taken high.
08:33Ball one.
08:34You would think they would take a shot.
08:38Especially with that delivery from Rogers.
08:42And down at the bottom of the order, too, where extra base hits.
08:45Less likely.
08:49Not a big lead.
08:51Not going.
08:52And it's fouled off one and one.
08:54Not going.
09:11Mitchell three steals and five tries this year.
09:14He is running.
09:15It's bounced weakly to Guerrero, who's got to hurry.
09:19And he dives and gets him.
09:24A very quick athletic play by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to get the second out as Mitchell takes second.
09:33Well, this was a very athletic play by Vladdy.
09:35He knew when he picked up the baseball, he didn't have any help at first base.
09:39Ernie's going to cover the bag on the steal.
09:41He had to really dive out there as far as he could.
09:43Almost out of the baseline.
09:44Maybe I see the umpire did not indicate that.
09:47He just called him out.
09:49You're allowed three feet from where you're about to be tagged.
09:52And you know what else he did?
09:53He picked that ball up with his bare hand, but had to transfer it to his glove hand.
09:57To dive over.
09:58Very quickly because he was not going to be able to reach the runner with his bare hand.
10:01It was a really good play.
10:11Looking ahead to the top of the ninth, Eloy Jimenez, Davis Schneider, and Kazuma Okamoto.
10:16The scheduled batters, Tyler Rodgers, trying to make sure it is just a one-run deficit.
10:24It's Luis Renegifo, this time batting from the left side.
10:29He'll look at strike one.
10:47Bounced foul 0 and 2.
10:52In the Brewers pen.
10:54Their closer Trevor McGill is up.
11:11And that just misses a little bit high.
11:16Again, the Blue Jays do not have any challenges remaining.
11:18It's ball one.
11:32Now to play.
11:42The Brewers have lost five in a row.
11:44The Blue Jays have lost four consecutive series, three and nine in their last 12.
11:49Both teams struggling coming in.
11:53This is lifted on the infield for Jimenez.
11:57And it's a scoreless inning for Rodgers.
12:00Meaning it will be a one-run game going to the ninth here in Milwaukee.
12:05You're watching Rodgers, Blue Jays baseball on SportsCenter.
12:27This is a Blue Jays.
12:297 o'clock Eastern Time, Blue Jays Central, 7.40 first pitch on SportsNet.
12:34One, game two between the Blue Jays and the Brewers.
12:38Here, it's a one-run game.
12:40Milwaukee four, the Blue Jays three going to the top of the ninth.
12:43This is last chance for the Blue Jays.
12:46Down by one.
12:47And they will face the closer for the Brewers.
12:51But a guy in Trevor McGill, Joe, who is not off to a great start this season.
12:55Well, on Friday, he had some trouble.
12:57He did not record an out, allowing four earned runs.
13:00It was a mess of an inning for him.
13:03He's going for his fourth save here.
13:06Three walks and five strikeouts in his four innings of work this season.
13:11High 90s fastball with a curveball.
13:13Two pitches by Malloy Jimenez.
13:15I'm looking for that heater to try to tie this thing up.
13:17In that last outing, the Nationals bunted on him not once, not twice.
13:21But three times, there was a hit, there was an error, and there was a late throw.
13:26But the players the Nationals had up, and the situation is different than the kinds of hitters the Blue Jays
13:33are coming up.
13:33Aloy Jimenez, David Schneider, Kazuma Okamoto, you're not bunting here.
13:37You're trying to tie it up by getting some hits.
13:41But McGill does have trouble fielding his position if anybody were to hit the ball back in his vicinity.
13:52There's the first pitch curveball, and I'm sure Jimenez is looking for the heater.
14:01Jimenez tonight, 0 for 3.
14:05Swings over the top of the curve.
14:071 and 1.
14:12Again, Davis Schneider on deck.
14:15Kazuma Okamoto due up third.
14:21Fastball just off the corner.
14:23Ball two.
14:24That's a cut to that fastball running away from the righty.
14:29Remember, the Blue Jays, if it were to come to this, do not have any challenges remaining.
14:33The Brewers do have one.
14:38Ball three.
14:58And that is lined hard, but just fouled down the left field line.
15:04Wow, that ball was up and in off the plate.
15:06Jimenez gets to it.
15:08And just misses that line.
15:15He's on the fastball.
15:25That ball will usually hook more off the bat of a right-hander and hooked a bit.
15:28Just enough to go foul.
15:30So it's three and two.
15:34And it's ball four.
15:35And the Blue Jays have the leadoff man aboard.
15:40And are we going to see Miles Straw pop out of the dugout here to run for him?
15:44We sure are.
15:45This is the last bench player the Blue Jays have.
15:48Straw to run for Jimenez.
15:52That's a great plate appearance by Jimenez in a key situation, waiting out McGill.
15:57He goes with a 3-2 curveball.
15:58He's able to lay off.
16:03Now, Davis Schneider.
16:05Boy, you never know when the moment of A finds you.
16:07Davis Schneider did not start in this game.
16:09Came on as a pinch hitter in the seventh.
16:11And now he's up here in a huge spot here in the ninth.
16:20And it's strike one to Schneider.
16:33If they had a challenge, he would have used it and he would have won it.
16:37But they don't have a challenge.
16:39Look at where Contreras is setting up, how far inside he is.
16:44McGill is a guy that you can run on.
16:46But Contreras has been very good behind the plate this season, throwing.
16:51See if he doesn't maybe give Schneider the shot.
16:53I think eventually Straw's got to try to steal this base.
16:56But maybe not yet with nobody out.
17:06A well-hit ball.
17:07Deep center field.
17:09Off the wall on a bounce.
17:11And it skips off the top of the wall.
17:14And the ruling is that it went out of play over the wall and then came back.
17:20Schneider with a double straw has to stop at third.
17:27What a big hit by Davis Schneider.
17:30He got a fastball right in the middle of the plate and down.
17:34Exactly where he likes it.
17:41And did it hit?
17:43It must have gone up and over and hit the green wall.
17:45Yes, it was behind and then bounced back onto the field of play.
17:49So, Straw has to be held at third.
17:52What a big swing for Davis Schneider.
17:57Especially after that first pitch.
17:58It looked a little up and in.
18:01That was called to strike.
18:02I don't think he hit his spot there.
18:04We know Davis handles that ball very well.
18:08Louie Varlin and Jeff Hoffman are both up in the bullpen.
18:17The Blue Jays second and third.
18:19Nobody out for Kazuma Okamoto.
18:22One for three tonight.
18:23Had an infield hit his last time up.
18:28Straw at third.
18:30Infield creeping in for the Brewers.
18:34And Okamoto takes ball one.
18:40He should try to emphasize as much as possible.
18:43Thinking more right center.
18:45Staying on that ball.
18:45Letting it travel and shooting something hard.
18:48Preferably in the air.
18:49To right center.
18:54You hit a fly ball that way.
18:55You might not only get a run home.
18:57But you might get Schneider to third with one out.
18:59Exactly.
18:59The last thing you want to do is get in pull mode.
19:01And we know that's his natural swing path.
19:03Because you'll roll it right over to the left side of that infield.
19:09Through the left side.
19:10A base hit.
19:12Straw will score.
19:15Schneider stops at third.
19:16And Okamoto has tied the game.
19:22Unless you hit a ground ball to the left side and it goes through.
19:25That works.
19:26I think McGill got him to do exactly what he wanted him to do.
19:30He got the pull side ground ball.
19:32But it found a hole between the infielders.
19:41They have tied it up here in the ninth and still nobody out for Andres Jimenez.
19:49One for three.
19:50A home run in the fifth.
19:52Infield in for the Brewers.
19:58And that is at the knees for a called strike.
20:02Call me crazy Dan.
20:03But would you.
20:04Bunt.
20:05Would you put a bunt down here with nobody out.
20:07I thought he might do it that first pitch.
20:09I would let him swing.
20:11He's swinging it pretty good.
20:12Yeah.
20:12I was thinking like safety squeeze.
20:14Yep.
20:27Find a way to make contact.
20:29Get something in the air.
20:30Get it to the outfield.
20:32Davis Schneider is now the runner at third.
20:36Tyler Heinemann is on deck.
20:51The 0-2 fights it off.
20:55Nice job.
20:56That's a tough pitch to get to up at the top of the zone.
21:14Another 0-2.
21:16And it's bounced to the right side.
21:18Terrain's got it.
21:19But a run will score.
21:21And the Blue Jays have taken the lead here in the ninth.
21:29What a great at-bat by Jimenez.
21:31Got to that 0-2 fastball up and away to stay alive.
21:34You foul it off.
21:35You get another pitch.
21:36And he's able to just put this ball in play.
21:38And good things happen.
21:41Davis Schneider right in the middle of it.
21:43With his booming double.
21:46Sometimes you don't have to hit it hard.
21:48You just got to put it in play.
21:50And Jimenez did that with a couple of strikes on him.
21:56So, runner at second, one out for Heinemann, who hits it foul down the right side.
22:04Heinemann did not play at all in the Minnesota series.
22:09Dealing with back issues.
22:10The last time Heinemann played was the last game of the Dodgers series.
22:28McGill steps off.
22:45Oh, would have won the count.
22:48Foul back.
22:49Going to.
22:53Now that the Blue Jays have the lead, it is just Jeff Hoffman up in the bullpen.
23:00That contact ability pays off again.
23:02That's a tough pitch, too, for Jimenez to get to.
23:04But he went right down to get it.
23:06The curveball almost on the ground.
23:08And we shouldn't forget, and you pointed it out, Eloy Jimenez drawing that leadoff walk.
23:12That was a good at-bat as well.
23:15Did not go.
23:18Really, everybody has done their job.
23:20Each guy has executed here in the ninth inning.
23:22You think you're coming up down one with the bottom half of the lineup.
23:25These guys have had some great at-bats.
23:27Nothing bigger than what that guy did.
23:28David Schneider with a double.
23:35A fly ball shallow left down the line.
23:38And caught by the left fielder Lockridge for the second half.
23:45For the Brewers, it's going to be the top of the order coming up at the bottom of the ninth.
23:51Freelich, Contreras, and Terrain.
23:57This is the first lead the Blue Jays have had in this game.
24:01Ernie Clement would love to add to it.
24:12And it's in the left for a base hit.
24:15Okamoto is getting the wave.
24:17And will score.
24:20Out at second is Clement.
24:23But he drives in another run.
24:27An aggressive send by Carlos Fablos.
24:30Because Okamoto does not run well.
24:33But the throw up the line.
24:35And Clement with a big extra run.
24:38And the Blue Jays will take a two-run lead to the bottom of the ninth.
24:48Kazuma Okamoto with an RBI single.
24:51And then again, he is not a really fast guy.
24:54And we understand there were two outs.
24:56You're more aggressive.
24:57But Carlos Fablos sent him.
25:00He was giving it everything he had.
25:03And the Lockridge throw was offline.
25:05And the Blue Jays scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning.
25:09How good does he have to feel with how much he has been struggling to be in the middle of
25:14an inning like that.
25:15And help the Blue Jays take a two-run lead to the bottom of the ninth.
25:18So nice to contribute in different ways as well.
25:20And a great job by Clement.
25:21And that rounding first and continuing on, sometimes that will force the catcher out from the plate to come and
25:26get you, making sure that runner scores.
25:30So it's Jeff Hoffman on in the bottom of the ninth.
25:35Eight games for Hoffman going for his third save of the season.
25:38Two walks and 17 strikeouts for Jeff in his seven and two-thirds innings of work this season.
25:45He has been outstanding.
25:48And he has faced 34 batters and struck out exactly half of them, 17.
25:55And he starts Sal Freelich with a strike.
26:01Top of the order.
26:03Freelich, Contreras, and Terrain.
26:06Okamoto in on the edge of the grass at third.
26:08Guerrero guarding the line at first.
26:13That's high.
26:19That two-run lead, and Trevor McGill's had it tough the last couple of outings.
26:24Gives you a little freedom as a closer.
26:31Hoffman falls behind, two and one.
26:49Now, three and one.
26:55This is what I meant by the freedom.
26:56I think he can go after him with the fastball here.
26:59Now he's behind three and one.
27:02Make the first guy beat you with his bat.
27:08But a leadoff walk is immediately going to bring the tying run to the plate.
27:25Now, William Contreras, one for three with a walk.
27:28Now, William Contreras, one for three, five, six, six, seven, four, two, one.
27:40On the appeal.
27:42Did not go.
27:43It is ball one runner goes and
28:00it's ball two and here are the
28:03Brewers kind of doing Brewers
28:05things here in the bottom of the
28:06nine just trying to be a
28:08distraction.
28:10Now this takes a double play out
28:12in this situation you could see
28:14Contreras squared no intention to
28:16to bump that ball and that's the
28:18key that run does not necessarily
28:19mean anything but it takes you
28:21out of the double play so a the
28:23lead off walk and then be the
28:25stolen base so what you want to do
28:28now is just treat this like you're
28:29facing the hitter never mind the
28:31runner on second he means
28:32absolutely nothing need to go get
28:34three hitters up getting louder
28:40here at American Family Field
28:41right now the Blue Jays just took
28:43the lead trying to secure a
28:45victory.
28:47Remember the Brewers have lost five
28:48in a row they're dealing with their
28:49own stuff.
28:53To a three look at second.
28:56Contreras good fastball hitter
28:58they're trying to stay away from
28:59him but they've been missing with
29:00the first two pitches Hoffman sets
29:10and the 2 0 and a strike two and
29:32one ground ball to second Clement has
29:35it on to first for the out free
29:43he'll take that two it comes back
29:45with a fastball stays away from him
29:54again so runner at third one out
30:01not everybody on the infield backed
30:03up except Okamoto's playing a little
30:05bit shallower but that's just the
30:07kind because of the speed of
30:08Terang the kind of hitter that he
30:09is as Terang takes ball one and
30:14pitch coming in just low one for
30:18four tonight a base hit and a run
30:20scored back in the fourth chop foul
30:31one and one a three run top of the
30:39ninth inning for the Blue Jays the
30:42runs driven in by Okamoto Andres
30:45Jimenez and Ernie Clement Davis
30:47Schneider with a big double in that
30:48inning as well.
30:50Trying to hang on and win it outside
30:56two balls and a strike Okamoto has
31:04backed up further at third outfielders
31:08straight away on terrain round ball
31:17through the left side for a base
31:19hit that will get a run home and put
31:23the tying run aboard
31:31to rank so tough fastball up and out
31:35there he just bounces it the other
31:36way but finds the hole on the left
31:45side and he runs very well being held on
31:51by Guerrero the batter is Gary Sanchez
31:55there he goes Sanchez taking throw down
31:58down not in time behind him and did
32:06everything he could to get rid of it
32:08quickly but just not a lot on that
32:09pitch was called a strike the batter
32:11is challenging the pitch was called
32:13a strike and Sanchez is challenging
32:16that pitch was called a strike the batter
32:18challenging I think the David
32:30Rackley the home plate umpire is
32:32waiting for the technology to start
32:34up here now it looks like it's
32:36coming and it is a strike Paul's
32:44confirmed Milwaukee has zero
32:46challenges remain so the tying run
32:49is at second with one out of the
32:50bottom of the ninth it is 0 and 1
33:06on Sanchez swing and a miss good
33:09spot for the slider 0 and 2 good
33:13spot for the slider good spot against
33:15Gary Sanchez if he can duplicate
33:17that that's a good spot to stay for
33:18a couple pitches wrote again right
33:20do it again and maybe again if you
33:22miss Sanchez using his timeout
33:31remember the home run that he hit
33:32off Braden Fisher is a curveball but
33:35his middle in and up backed up on him
33:42Hoffman out in front 0 and 2
33:47threw it again but on the appeal
33:49no swing says Chris Guccione the crew
33:53chief down at first
33:56put it in a good spot as a catcher
33:58sometimes you feel like you got to
34:00watch Tyler Heinemann back there he
34:01sees the bat asked for the appeal do we
34:04get it oh thought he had him
34:11so Hoffman has shown Sanchez three sliders in
34:15this at bat
34:18look back in the one two got him with a
34:21fastball two down
34:28wow Hoffman made a great pitch right
34:30there after all the sliders down they
34:32try to elevate and I'm sure they're
34:33going to elevate once if it's a ball
34:36they're thinking go back to the
34:37slider but he gets the swing and
34:38miss up top so two outs in the
34:42ninth inning and here is Jake
34:44Bowers one for four hit a home run
34:46in the fourth inning the tying run at
34:50second and the first pitch outside
34:54ball one I know it's really unusual
35:16to put the winning run on base but
35:19the way Bowers is swinging it it's
35:21two and oh you've got a right handed
35:22hitter and Lockridge on deck do you
35:25well there's our answer I was going
35:27to say pitching him very carefully
35:29there's our answer you know what I
35:32think this is the play yeah yeah
35:34you don't want Jake Bowers to beat
35:35you no
35:41so an intentional walk and now it'll
35:44be a righty righty matchup with
35:46Brandon Lockridge
36:08the pitch I think that was for real
36:14or just wanted to look one over
36:15and maybe mess with Hoffman or
36:18maybe mess with Okamoto down there
36:19trying to draw him in trying to gain
36:21any advantage he can you got to
36:22believe he's trying to cash in the
36:23tying run here
36:29the 1-0
36:33outside
36:33ball two
36:36well I think he's right where he
36:37wants to be just missing off the
36:40outside and when I say right where he
36:42wants to be sliders away is a good
36:44play against Lockridge the 10th
36:48bottom of the ninth here in
36:50Milwaukee the 2-0 pitch outside
36:55again ball three on deck hitter
37:04left-hand hitting Garrett Mitchell
37:15in there three and one
37:22I don't think he wants to grew
37:24another fastball like that when I
37:25don't doubt he does go back to the
37:27slider here
37:29shook Heinemann off once to get to
37:31what he wanted
37:36did it
37:36down the right side of it out of
37:38play three and two he did go back
37:40to the fastball and it beat him
37:42and I'm thinking Lockridge must be
37:43thinking slider to the way he was
37:45late on that fastball
37:47but now they each have a bit more
37:49information based on that last
37:50pitch is the chess match right here
37:52and now the runners will be on the
37:54move to rain from second and
37:56Bowers from first
38:00and Lockridge will use his timeout
38:11they're on their feet here in
38:12Milwaukee Hoffman trying to finish
38:14it off
38:16the 3-2 pitch
38:19fouled back
38:23a little closer a little closer to
38:25being on time for that and that
38:28was the hardest pitch Hoffman's
38:29thrown to that was 97
38:41he's got the one he wants
38:46and again the 3-2 and it's hit in the
38:50left a base hit and the Brewers
38:54have tied it here in the bottom of
39:14the 9 he went back to the slider
39:16trying to get it out there but look
39:17where it ends up he gets tons of
39:18plate now I know he's got to keep it
39:21on the plate because if not he walks
39:22him
39:24but you got to be thinking there if
39:25you miss with the slider you walk
39:27him you get the lefty then you go
39:28on him with your splitter there's so
39:29much going on there I think Jeff
39:30wanted that ball way more
39:33so now Garrett Mitchell's got a
39:35chance to win it two on two out
39:39and it's low ball one
39:41Bowers came around to third
39:43Lockridge went into second on the
39:45play
39:48Okamoto even with a bag but way off
39:51the line at third everybody else
39:52backed up on the infield
39:58swing and a miss at a splitter away
40:00one and one
40:05what a ninth inning the Blue Jays get
40:07three in the top half the Brewers
40:10two to tie it here in the bottom
40:18half the 1-1 outside ball 2 Hoffman
40:25about to throw his 30th pitch of the
40:28inning
40:48and Louie Varlan has gotten back up
40:50so if there's a walk here we could
40:53see a pitching change look like he
40:54just said he's ready
41:04a slider for a strike three and two
41:18a slider for a strike three and a
41:19the winning run at third
41:20the winning run at third
41:23and time
41:48The 3-2.
41:50Ball four.
41:54That will load him up and it looks like that's going to lead to a change.
42:00Here's John Schneider and he wants Louie Barlin.
42:05Jeff Hoffman could not finish it off Joe and it started with a lead off walk.
42:10The lead off walk.
42:11I go back to that Sal Freelich plate appearance couple of splitters fell behind ends up putting
42:16them on.
42:16Got to go after that lead off guy.
42:26A blown save for Jeff Hoffman tonight as the Brewers get two in the bottom of the night.
42:30They have tied it at six.
42:32The bases are loaded with two down.
42:33John Schneider has now Joe gone to Louie Barlin to try to get this game to extra innings.
42:39Louie Barlin has been excellent.
42:41The Blue Jays need him to be excellent for one batter right here to force this thing into extra innings.
42:51It'll be Joey Ortiz who is 0 for 3 and hitting just 2 0 5 on the season.
43:02The runner at third is Bowers representing the winning run.
43:08And Barlin out in front 0 1 1.
43:27Good curveball good spot not much Ortiz could do with it.
43:33Back to back curveballs from Barlin.
43:48And he got him struck him out on three pitches and this game will go to extra innings.
44:04I'll tell you what started off as a real pitcher's duel between Jacob Mizorowski and Kevin Gossman.
44:09This one got wild late.
44:11The Blue Jays three in the top of the night to take the lead.
44:13But the Brewers two in the bottom half to tie in extra innings here in Milwaukee tonight.
44:19The new pitcher for the Brewers right-hander Grant Anderson.
44:22Anderson will face Dalton Varshow to start things off with Ernie Clement, the automatic runner at second base.
44:29Eight games for Anderson.
44:31That whip is under one.
44:33He's walked forward and allowed four hits in his eight and two-thirds innings.
44:38He's also struck out nine.
44:39Got some speed out at second.
44:40Ernie Clement is that runner.
44:42Varshow, Guerrero, Sanchez.
44:44Fourth game this season for the Blue Jays to go into extra innings.
44:48They are one and two.
44:50Renjifo in on the grass at third.
44:53And Varshow takes it outside.
44:55Ball one.
45:02Four seam and sinker.
45:04Only the sweeper and changeup.
45:12Varshow skies one to shallow right center.
45:17Vreelich comes way in and makes the catch.
45:20And obviously not nearly deep enough for Clement to go anywhere.
45:28It's the right guy you want at the plate right there.
45:30You know he can pull the baseball.
45:31But Dalton just couldn't get to that elevated fastball and popped it up to shallow right.
45:41So one out with a runner at second.
45:43And here's Guerrero.
45:51Guerrero one for four tonight.
45:53Had a base hit in the sixth and then drove in a run on a ground out in the eighth.
46:11Down and away a ball and a strike.
46:14Now that this game has gone to extra innings this is important to mention.
46:18Both teams were out of ABS challenges.
46:20But if you are out you get one back at the beginning of an extra inning.
46:24So each team does have one ABS challenge now.
46:33Guerrero lines it.
46:35Deep left field.
46:36And it's off the base of the wall.
46:40Clement is in to score.
46:42And Guerrero is in to second base with a double.
46:45And the Blue Jays have taken the lead again.
46:55Levladi got this pitch up in the zone.
46:57And it was a no-doubter over his head.
47:00Just a matter of whether he was going to get out of the park or not.
47:02But after a couple of sinkers he comes back with that sweeper.
47:05And he leaves it up right in the middle.
47:08And he scores easily.
47:14So Guerrero drives in the go-ahead run.
47:16It is 7 to 6.
47:17And now the Brewers have intentionally walked Jesus Sanchez to bring up Miles Straw.
47:25Straw came into the game as a pinch runner for Eloy Jimenez in the ninth.
47:29The last position player for the Blue Jays.
47:32So Straw will bat.
47:38Straw is the DH.
48:02And now Straw lines it into the left field corner.
48:08Guerrero is in to score.
48:10Sanchez is getting the wave.
48:12And he is in as well.
48:19Miles Straw with a two-run double.
48:26How many times last year did we see Miles Straw step up with a big hit in a big situation?
48:34This went right out over the plate and he hooks it right into the left field corner.
48:46What a clutch hit.
48:48It is 9 to 6.
48:50Straw's running.
48:52And the throw to third is not in time.
48:56He steals third with one out.
49:00That is a potentially a big 90 feet.
49:04You see him shuffling.
49:05He's trying to time that pitcher up.
49:06And he did.
49:07Very close at third.
49:08It looks like the hand is in there.
49:10Looks like the Brewers are challenging.
49:15Here comes Chris Guccione, the crew chief.
49:21Milwaukee is challenging the safe call.
49:23Third base.
49:30This game has had a little bit of everything.
49:32Man, oh man.
49:38Seems like a long time ago that Jacob Mizorowski was pitching with Kevin Gosman.
49:43Man.
49:55Too close to overturn.
49:57I think I would think so.
49:58I mean, I don't see clear and convincing evidence he's outed.
50:03It's pretty much bang, bang.
50:05After a review, the call on the field is overturned.
50:07It's overturned.
50:08Oh, man.
50:09Wrong again.
50:10Wow.
50:16So, good challenge by the Brewers to a race draw.
50:20Now it's two out and the base is empty.
50:32Davis Schneider, who had that big double in the ninth inning.
50:40And a half swing, two hopper to first.
50:43That will be that.
50:45But the Blue Jays, in large part due to Miles Strong.
50:49And the big hit by Guerrero in front of him.
50:51Now lead by three.
50:58So, three runs in the top of the tenth for the Blue Jays.
51:02One on a Guerrero double.
51:03Two on a straw double.
51:05And it is nine to six going to the bottom of the tenth.
51:10Miles Strong DH-ing, right?
51:11So, he's not even in the field.
51:12So, so strange.
51:14Like, Strong's not in there for defense.
51:16He was in there after pinch running for Jimenez.
51:19The DH state of the game.
51:20Big two-run double.
51:21But Louie Varlin got the big strike out of Joey Ortiz to just send this game to extra innings.
51:26And now looking to finish it off.
51:28Bottom ten.
51:30Ortiz is the runner out at second for the Brewers.
51:33And the batter is Luis Renjifo.
51:38Two big hits in this game.
51:40Davis Schneider and Miles Strong coming from guys off the bench.
51:43Did not even start the ballgame.
51:45That's using them all.
51:46Mm-hmm.
51:50In there at the knees.
51:52One and one.
51:58After Renjifo, top of the order.
52:00Freelich and then Contreras.
52:08And a called strike.
52:11One and two borderline pitch.
52:14But it is a strike and it's one and two.
52:17Here on Renjifo.
52:27Back to the mound.
52:29And Varlin made the right play.
52:31If it's a one-run game, you go for the runner going from second to third.
52:36But you could see in that moment, he instantly thought, get the sure out.
52:41Your natural reaction is to turn to the runner.
52:44And that's a great thing by Louie.
52:45Right here, he just said, no.
52:47Understand the score.
52:48You play the scoreboard up three.
52:50We're counting outs right now.
52:51That's number one.
52:56The runner at third does not matter.
52:59Here's Sal Freelich.
53:01That one sails on Varlin up and in.
53:03Ball one.
53:08You know, with everything happening quickly and your heart rate elevated, not everybody does that.
53:13But a smart play by Varlin to get an easy out at first.
53:18Now a fly ball to shallow center.
53:21Varjo coming in.
53:23Will make the catch.
53:24The throw to the plate on a bounce.
53:26The runner stays at third.
53:28And there are two outs.
53:34This is the Louie Varlin we have seen all season.
53:38Absolutely dialed in.
53:39Yeah, the velocity is up.
53:40The fastball is good.
53:41We're seeing him use all of his pitches.
53:43Look at that.
53:44He's going to pull out the card himself just to make sure.
53:46I know how I want to face Contreras here.
53:51The tying run is in the on-deck circle.
53:54In terrain.
53:56The Blue Jays and out-of-way.
53:59And a swing at a base 0-1.
54:15Down and away.
54:22They got him at the trade deadline last year for Minnesota.
54:27And he has taken his game up a notch here in the early going of his second year as a
54:32Blue Jay.
54:35Ground ball to the left side.
54:37Oh, and Okamoto reached for it and deflected it in the left.
54:47The third baseman cutting in front of the shortstop.
54:50And the general rule is, if you can get it, go get it.
54:54But would he have been better off letting Jimenez get it with Contreras not running all that well down to
55:01first?
55:01It's a general rule, and I'm saying leave this for your shortstop.
55:05Andres Jimenez was surrounding this baseball.
55:07It wasn't as though he was diving for it.
55:10And that's where you have to know where your shortstop is playing.
55:13Andres is ready to glove that ball.
55:14And now a base hit in the right center for Terrain.
55:25Up to second goes Contreras.
55:33So when the shift is on and when guys are moving around to the infield,
55:37you want to make sure you know where everybody is.
55:39And I think if Okamoto knows Jimenez is right there, you just let him take it.
55:43He's squared up for it.
55:46So it is 9-7, a meeting on the mound.
55:49The tying run is at first.
55:51The winning run is at the plate, and it's Gary Sanchez.
56:05They've had success staying away from him tonight.
56:08Kevin was coming inside at times.
56:12And the home run off Fisher was a backup breaking ball,
56:15not designed to be on the inner half.
56:17Sanchez has never faced Farland.
56:24Contreras at second.
56:26He doesn't matter, Terrain at first, he does.
56:32He's the tying run.
56:35And the first pitch from Farland is down and away, ball one.
56:40And Heinemann is challenging.
56:42Remember, you get one back if you don't have any.
56:44It's called a ball to pressure, challenging.
56:47In extra innings.
56:52And it is unsuccessful.
56:56Toronto is out of challenges.
57:02Probably not a bad time to take a shot.
57:05You get one in the inning, get ahead of Gary Sanchez.
57:070-1 is a big advantage.
57:111-0 fastball drilled in at 98.
57:14It's 1-1.
57:30And just missed ball two.
57:34That one just off the corner.
57:36And again, they just used their challenge.
57:37So, nothing Heinemann could do there.
57:45A stressful night of baseball.
57:49Fouled off.
57:50And it's 2-2.
57:51As Farland has shown Sanchez nothing but the fastball so far in this at bat.
58:02Does he stay with it?
58:03Or does he go to the knuckle curve?
58:07The 2-2.
58:08Ooh.
58:10Time called.
58:12Heinemann stepped out from behind the plate, I think.
58:15Was the clock getting down?
58:16Maybe the clock was getting down.
58:18So, Heinemann basically took a disengagement.
58:21Stepped out, took a mound visit, I should say, to prevent it from going to ball three.
58:25Now, everybody ready to go.
58:28And another fastball fouled back.
58:39Surprised he hasn't thrown a curveball yet.
58:41I thought he would mix one in here, but seems adamant about staying with the heat.
58:46Another 2-2.
58:48Did he go?
58:49He did!
58:52Sanchez goes around.
58:53Varland goes to the curveball, and he strikes him out to end the ballgame.
58:58As the Blue Jays win a wild one here in Milwaukee, 9-7 in 10 innings.
59:05A wild one indeed, and the key word is win.
59:09John Schneider and the Blue Jays will take this win any way they can get it.
59:14The lineup was relentless all night.
59:16The pitching started by Kevin Gosman was pretty darn good until they hit a couple hiccups here late.
59:21But Louie Varland eventually makes a big pitch, the one he had to.
59:25What a crazy game.
59:27They got some clutch hits late in the 9th, in the 10th.
59:31Varland takes it home in the bottom of the 10th, and the Blue Jays win the opening game of this
59:35series 9-7.
59:37It is time now for Sportsnet Central, presented by KFC.
59:41Here are Ken and Ivanka.
