00:00Welcome back to Yankees Baseball on Prime. We are getting closer in the Bronx to first pitch.
00:06Game 3 of the four-game series between the Yankees and the Angels is set to get underway in just
00:11a little bit.
00:12Hey everyone, I'm Meredith Marakovitz coming to you from Monument Park.
00:16A life is not important except for the impact it has on other lives.
00:21Those are the words of Jackie Robinson.
00:23And all throughout Major League Baseball, we are celebrating the life and legacy of Jackie,
00:28who on this date, 79 years ago, broke the color barrier.
00:33Thank you, Jackie. Without you, you breaking the way or setting the way, it's special in my career for sure.
00:44And I just really respect everything you had to go through to break that barrier.
00:49It's incredible getting a chance to wear 42. I go back and think just about the legacy that Jackie left.
00:56I think about the hardships, the tough times he went through, and he continued to show up to work and
01:03did his job.
01:04It's just amazing to me that, you know, I'll sit here and complain about getting booed every now and then
01:09or a call not going my way, but, you know, this guy had everybody coming after him.
01:16It didn't matter what was going on. You know, it was tough circumstances at the field and away from the
01:21field.
01:21And for this guy to continue to be like, to persevere, I'm going to show up every single day, do
01:26my job.
01:27And just, he paved the way for a lot of us to be able to play this game, including myself.
01:32So, it's, you know, you've got to take a moment every time we have Jackie Robinson Day
01:38and I get to kind of look at that jersey. I put the 42 on, you know, I try to
01:41just sit back
01:41and just really think about what this truly means and just the honor it is.
01:46Thank you, Jackie.
01:48And I think we all share the sentiments of John Carlos Stanton in saying thank you, Jackie.
01:53You heard Aaron Judge say all players today are going to be wearing number 42 on their jerseys.
01:58Also, there will be a Jackie Robinson patch on the hats.
02:02And this is new this year, Michael.
02:04Inside the hats, there's actually a picture of Jackie Robinson
02:07and essentially what looks like the back of his baseball card,
02:10sharing his accomplishments and his stats throughout the course of his career.
02:15Michael, we'll send it back up to you.
02:17Thank you, Meredith. What a great initiative by Major League Baseball.
02:20I thought Judge's words were so, so perfect.
02:23And for our younger viewers, if you haven't read all the stories, you should.
02:27Because he didn't just do something for sports, but he did something for this country as well.
02:35All right, let's take a look at the Angels lineup.
02:37That will face Louis Heal, Meadow, Trout, and Shonowell at the top.
02:40Adele, Moncada, and Peraza in the middle.
02:43Lowe, Ohapi, and Frazier at the bottom of the order.
02:47And they will be facing that man.
02:4911 starts in 2025, 4-1, 3.32 ERA.
02:57He made one start.
02:59That was on Friday in St. Pete.
03:01Lasted just four innings.
03:03Let's take a look at the scouting report.
03:04Well, you've got to sharpen it up.
03:06His debut in Tampa on Friday, not his best.
03:09Four innings, three runs, three walks.
03:11You've got to throw strikes.
03:12I mean, it's always been the case.
03:14If he pitches ahead, he has more than enough stuff to be successful.
03:18Turn back the clock.
03:192024 Rookie of the Year, 15-7.
03:23171 strikeouts and 151 innings.
03:26It's there.
03:27If he's healthy, Luis Heal has an opportunity to be a big part of this rotation.
03:31And he deals a first-pitch strike as we are underway here in the Bronx.
03:35Swing and miss, 0-2 on Neto.
03:38Neto, 1-for-9 in the first two games of the series.
03:41So, Yankees getting the table setter out.
03:44And the guys after him have done a lot of damage.
03:50Angels have scored 17 runs in two games.
03:53Ten of those runs coming via the homerun.
03:56Seven homeruns.
03:58Pitch outside.
04:00That's a good sign.
04:01The 97 miles an hour.
04:02If his fastball is around that number, then he's feeling pretty good.
04:12That one is clubbed down the left-field line.
04:15It is a fair ball, and it bounces into the seat.
04:19It's a lead-off double for Neto.
04:21Well, this has been the Angels since they walked into Yankee Stadium a few days ago.
04:25They get behind in the count.
04:26They fall behind, and then they wait for a mistake.
04:28And that's a mistake.
04:29A hanging slider ends up bouncing right inside the left-field line for a lead-off double.
04:35And it's just time and time again Yankee pitchers have not been able to put the Angels hitters away.
04:44Especially this guy, Mike Trout.
04:46Three homeruns in the first two games.
04:48Neto, big lead off second.
04:54High fly ball right field.
04:56Judge back.
04:57He has room.
04:59Makes a catch.
05:00Tagging Neto.
05:01Here's the throw.
05:02And Neto goes back.
05:03Throw comes all the way to third.
05:06And he was deep and right there, Paul.
05:08Yeah.
05:09He got a lap because he kind of threw it a little higher than he wanted because it was not
05:12able to be cut.
05:13But Neto knows Aaron Judge not only has a good arm, he's extremely accurate.
05:18Everything fundamentally is perfect.
05:21Stay back.
05:21Stay back.
05:22Run.
05:23Catch.
05:23Go towards your target.
05:25And stay on top.
05:25A very true throw time and time again.
05:30So they retire Trout.
05:32Here's Nolan Seanowell.
05:40Come by arrow trying to check back Neto.
05:44Neto one stolen base on the year.
05:46But, you know, now that there's one out, you do have to worry a little bit more.
05:51That he might possibly try to steal and get to third base.
05:55Now you don't have to worry.
05:56He goes to third base on that ground ball, but two outs.
06:00Take a look at the Yankee defense.
06:02We've already seen Judge in right.
06:04Grisham is in center.
06:05Bellinger is in left after having yesterday off.
06:07Go the other way in the infield.
06:08McMahon, Caballero, Chisholm, and Rice back at first.
06:12Austin Wells behind the plate.
06:13Stanton is the DH.
06:17Here's Joe Adele four for nine in the first two games of the series.
06:28And the pitch high.
06:33Well, this is a really good opportunity for heel.
06:36The pitch is way out of a leadoff double.
06:38You talk about a confidence builder to walk off this mound.
06:41If he can save this run.
06:47Slider misses outside, 2-0.
06:53Angels are 9-9.
06:55And the Yankees are 9-8.
07:02One guy that you really don't want to give in to.
07:05And that ball's a little bit out of the strike, so he's got a good swing and a miss.
07:08He has had a good year offensively.
07:11Hitting 3-15 coming into the game.
07:13I was watching him hit batting practice today, Michael.
07:16He hit a couple balls.
07:17Like Aaron Judge hits him.
07:19I mean, all the way out in the mid-bleachers above the State Farm.
07:22So, unbelievable power.
07:34Umpire behind home plate is the crew chief, Lance Barksdale.
07:38He's considered hitter-friendly, and it's pinned, too.
07:40He's had 12 calls challenged, just five overturned.
07:44Fewer strikes up and down, fewer inside strikes on lefty batters, and Lance in his 27th big league season.
07:54Five ball, left center.
07:56Grisham there makes the play, and he works around the leadoff double as the Angels strand one, and the Yankees
08:02come to bat.
08:07For the first, now, it's the Yankees' turn against Jack Kohanowicz.
08:11Take a look at the Yankees' starting lineup.
08:13Trent Grisham will lead off, batting second, first baseman Ben Rice, and Aaron Judge will hit third.
08:18Cleaning up Cody Bellinger.
08:19John Carlos Stanton bats fifth.
08:21It's Chisholm in the number six hole.
08:23And the bottom third of the order, Wells, Caballero, and McMahon.
08:28So, let's take a look at Kohanowicz and what he's about.
08:31His number's much better than they were last year.
08:33This will be his fourth start, 2-0, with a 3.24 ERA.
08:38Yeah, his lifetime number's not great, but he's off and running this year.
08:42Good start to the season, 2-0, and he's coming off a great start in Cincinnati.
08:46Seven innings, two hits, and only gave up one run, and he will pitch to contact.
08:5055% ground ball rate, which is third in the American League.
08:54Only 12.8% strikeout rate, which is the lowest in the American League.
08:59And more soft stuff.
09:01He's throwing more change-ups, and he's using a higher angle of his arm,
09:06which makes all the sense in the world to me.
09:08He's 6'7".
09:09The higher you get your release point, the harder it is for a pitcher or a hitter to pick it
09:14up.
09:17And the righty deals.
09:21And what directly over the top is doing for him is making his change-up better.
09:26Because when he dropped his arm a little bit, it's harder to throw the change-up that way.
09:30So now he's got that pitch to offset his other pitches as well.
09:36And it's worth, Paul, because last year he had a 6.81 ERA.
09:40And that was the highest for any major league pitcher who threw 100 or more innings.
09:46Yeah, height is an advantage as a pitcher.
09:49I mean, you're so, you know, you talk about the window.
09:52Grisham, a little ground ball there.
09:54Easy first out.
09:56But you talk about the little window that you kind of pick up the baseball release point-wise.
10:00And all of a sudden you throw a guy who's 6'7", it's a totally different way.
10:04You shut the other window and try to open up another one.
10:07And you're really not used to it.
10:10And the Angels, as a pitching staff, raving about their new pitching coach, the veteran Mike Maddox.
10:17Maddox really knows his stuff and he's had success at a lot of stops in the big leagues.
10:25Here's Ben Rice.
10:29One and O.
10:30Yeah, Mark Gubizai, good ex-pitcher in the major leagues, does their television.
10:35And he was in here earlier talking about, you know, he's talked to, about staying tall.
10:42You know, use it as an advantage.
10:44I mean, pitchers understand release points can mean a lot.
10:47Nice play by Neto.
10:48Took a base hit away from Rice.
10:51Take a look at the rest of the Angels' defense.
10:54Lowe, Trout, and Adele.
10:56Just on Neto.
10:57Frazier's the second baseman, so that's your keystone combo.
11:01Barraza third.
11:01Sean Ola first.
11:02Ohapi behind the plate.
11:04Moncada to DH.
11:12You know, slow motion when you make a nice play as a middle infield, it almost looks like ballet out
11:16there.
11:16It's perfect.
11:18You know, you mentioned Gubizai, Paul, in some ballet.
11:23And he was telling me that you were a 500-hitter lifetime against him.
11:29He was a really good pitcher, too.
11:31Yeah, he, I mean, you knew what you were getting.
11:33A really, really good slider in the sinker.
11:35But, you know, he wasn't down about it.
11:37No.
11:38Why?
11:38He said, I kept him in the park.
11:39Yeah, he said he didn't give up any home run.
11:41I didn't know those numbers.
11:42But, you know, he comes in every day.
11:44He said, I owe him pizza.
11:45I said, well, why not owe you pizza?
11:46You're more than welcome to have a piece.
11:47But, hey, he said, I gave you bacon your whole career, so you owe me some pizza.
11:52That's Mark on the left and Wayne Randazzo.
11:54They're play-by-play guy on the right.
11:55Really good broadcasting group.
11:590-2 on Judge.
12:061-2.
12:09We got 6-7 against 6-7, right?
12:12Aaron Judge.
12:13Somewhere, my daughter's on 6-7.
12:14Yeah.
12:171-2.
12:18Drill deep to right field.
12:20Going back and down.
12:22Track.
12:22Wall.
12:23See ya.
12:24Into the judges' chambers.
12:26A long home run the other way.
12:28And the Yankees lead 1-0.
12:39Well, I'm sure he's going to like Jackie Robinson today from now on and lead off home run in the
12:44first inning.
12:44But, you know, when you start to see Aaron Judge handle pitches away and just shoot him into the seats
12:49like he did right there,
12:50you know he's starting to really get locked in.
12:53I mean, he has been swinging about this series and he's continuing right there.
13:03Here's Bellinger.
13:10That seventh home run for Judge, that leads the American League.
13:14Yeah, that just got a little bit too much of the plate.
13:17I thought it was on the outside corner, but it was kind of outer half.
13:20And, uh, Aaron Judge doesn't need to get poor happy.
13:24He does not have to pull the baseball to hit it out of the ballpark.
13:27And that's so nice to know that two-seam fastball just did not have a lot, enough movement and had
13:35a little too much of home plate.
13:37I was going to say number 99, but I guess he's number 42, took him in the seats.
13:44What an advantage, Paul.
13:45This is his 88th career home run in the first inning.
13:49You know, you worry about some guys, their pregame and how they get ready for a game.
13:55Well, you don't have to worry about Aaron Judge, his first inning at-bats, as good as anybody in the
13:59league.
14:02So, he only trails Babe Ruth with 126, Mickey Bantle with 103.
14:08And, uh, he's passed Lou Gehrig and Derek Jeter.
14:17And there's a walk to Bellinger.
14:30I was going to bring up Jean-Carlo Stead.
14:39Michael, you better know the players by face tonight.
14:41Yes, you do.
14:42You can't rely on the number.
14:45Everybody's wearing 42.
14:49And there's a strike.
15:07One thing, Paul, and you know this, baseball players are quite superstitious.
15:12So, Stanton have a great game yesterday.
15:14So, the red belts off.
15:15The red spikes are off.
15:22Pikes it off and fouls it off.
15:24So, a couple hits last night.
15:25We're still sporting the red tires.
15:27That's what you're saying?
15:28I would think so.
15:42You know, the cool thing about everybody wearing 42, because when it first started happening,
15:46people just wore 42 in the font of their team's colors.
15:49But now the 42, they were, that's the Dodger blue 42.
15:52Yeah, it does have, it's got a different, uh, piping or shaping.
15:56What do you call it?
15:56Piping?
15:57Different color, really.
16:02And that's tipped into the glove of Ojapi.
16:05And that'll do it.
16:07But the Yankees take the lead.
16:08Another leadoff home run.
16:09So, number 99 hits number 88 for his first inning home run.
16:14A long blast right in front of the Chambers.
16:161-0 games.
16:29We go to the second inning.
16:32Yoham Moncada will lead off against Louis Ciel.
16:34The Yankees have a 1-0 lead on the judge home run.
16:40They're hoping Moncada can really get it going offensively.
16:43He's been about pretty good in this series.
16:45You know, had a pretty solid year last year.
16:48If you break it down, they had 14 home runs.
16:50But he only played in, like, 83 games.
16:52He earned a thumb.
16:53He earned his knee.
16:54So, he didn't have a lot of action.
16:55So, they're hoping that a full season, he can throw up some big numbers offensively.
17:01First two games, four for nine.
17:05Angels have a little pressure.
17:07People on the Angels feeling the pressure.
17:09Their new manager, Kurt Suzuki, one-year contract.
17:14Perry Manassian, the head of baseball operations, one year left on his contract.
17:20So, they know they have to produce in order to stay here.
17:26And Manassian and Suzuki tied together.
17:29Suzuki worked as an assistant to Manassian in the front office.
17:32And then, surprisingly, got named the manager.
17:36Fly ball.
17:38Grisham drifts over.
17:39One down.
17:42Now, Heal's first start.
17:43It was against the Rays.
17:45We'll take a look at the Arsenal on StatCast 3D by Google Cloud.
17:49Well, the four seam and the sinker, that, to me, are his bread and butters.
17:53I mean, he needs to throw those for strikes.
17:56If you want to show a changeup, great to a lefty.
17:58You want to throw sliders off the plate for strikeout pitches, great.
18:01But you cannot miss with that slider out over the plate when you have that good of a fastball.
18:07Peraza with a fly ball to right center.
18:10Drifting over as judge.
18:11Two down.
18:13And, Meredith, you spoke to Louis Hill the other day.
18:16Michael, looking at that first start, one thing he was not particularly pleased with was his command.
18:20He had three walks in that one.
18:22Never really felt like he was in a great rhythm on the mound.
18:25He said he went back to the drawing board and kind of tweaked his mechanics a little bit.
18:28Nothing major.
18:29Just fine-tuning it a little bit that he thinks will serve him well tonight.
18:34Another thing, he wants to continue to try to be aggressive on the mound.
18:37That's one thing Matt Blake talked a lot about prior to that first start.
18:40And you noted it, Michael.
18:41You've already seen his fastball at 97 miles an hour.
18:45We just saw a 96.
18:47On average, that fastball was 95.1 in that first start.
18:54Something Joe Girardi noticed as well.
18:55He gave up a home run on a slider and then threw his fastball softer.
19:01I mean, when you start messing around with other pitches, a piece of hitting there,
19:05shooting the ball over to the left side, you start messing around with a lot of pitches.
19:10I think it takes away from your fastball.
19:12I'd love to ask David Cohen this because, you know, you see guys working on cutters or tweaking their two
19:18-seamer,
19:18and all of a sudden you've lost the gift that you have, and that's the 97, 98-mile-an-hour
19:22fastball,
19:23to try to invent other pitches.
19:26Well, the interesting thing about last year, and his numbers were not terrible,
19:29but he was so dominant in the first half in 2024 is that I had scouts tell me he's painting
19:37out there.
19:38He's pitching like he's an artist.
19:41He's not overpowering people like he did last year.
19:43And maybe the injury scared him off of him and he thought he would re-injure himself,
19:47but he was not aggressive last year.
19:49He was, again, trying to invent things on the mound.
19:53Yeah, there's certain pitchers that have to pitch perfect, and, you know,
19:56because they don't have the velocity, they don't have the great stuff.
20:00So, you know, they're control pitchers.
20:02Well, he was not that type of pitcher.
20:04I mean, he's a power pitcher at heart, and that's—you can use a lot of the plate,
20:09not just the corners with that kind of stuff.
20:12One and two on Logan Ohapi.
20:14They've held down Ohapi, one for eight in the first two games.
20:17This is a four-game set.
20:21Heal has thrown seven of eight first pitch strikes.
20:30Keeping low close.
20:50Two and two.
20:54Two outs, one on.
20:56A couple of hits for the Angels already, but the Yankees lead 1-0 on the judge homerun.
21:05Warner goes.
21:06That one's popped up and now to play.
21:12Heal is going to take a chance, but two outs.
21:16I'm sorry, low.
21:18He's got one stolen base on the year, but with two outs, you know,
21:21you try to get a little better jump, better leads, and give an opportunity.
21:28The hitter to drive you in from second.
21:37In the second, Angel Strand 1, we go to the bottom of the inning, it's 1-0 Yanks.
21:51April 15th marks Jackie Robinson's historic MLB debut.
21:56Robinson's courage and determination in the face of adversity is as much an example now as ever before.
22:03Join baseball in commemorating Jackie Robinson Day and visit MLBtogether.com slash 42 to learn more.
22:10What a quiet and dignified tribute by Jazz Chisholm to Jackie Robinson.
22:16The way he's wearing his pants, loose and blousey, just the way Robinson did.
22:21Nice touch by Jazz to do that.
22:27And he usually wears his uniform quite form-fitting, but not tonight.
22:41Chisholm's still looking.
22:42He's looking for a swing, hitting 177.
22:45He's one for six in this series.
22:47Yeah, waiting in some pitches.
22:49Just thinking at what you were saying earlier about Stanton.
22:51You know, if Chisholm has a big, big night tonight, he might be Jackie Robinson for the rest of the
22:56year.
23:00That's how Jackie wore the pants, as you can see.
23:03And Jazz lost up right around just below the knee.
23:09So 3-0.
23:12And a strike from Kochanowicz.
23:26And the big righty deals.
23:303-2.
23:38Austin Wall's on deck.
23:50And that just missed.
23:52Good take by Jazz as he leads off with a walk.
24:03Wells, two hits and six at-bats, and has two walks in this series.
24:08In fact, he's reached in six of his last 15 plate appearances.
24:16Jazz has six stolen bases.
24:19Tapped in front of the plate.
24:20Kochanowicz.
24:21Bobbles loses the play at second, gets the play at first.
24:26Yeah, one little bobble that just goes to show you how a little extra speed.
24:30You know, Jazz runs extremely well.
24:32Most players, you bobble it.
24:34Yeah, you still get the out, but not with Jazz.
24:36All right, I can't get a handle.
24:37I better get it out somewhere.
24:38All right, so here's Caballero.
24:56You see his height as much as it helps him on his release point.
25:01He's very slow to the plate.
25:02Six-foot-seven, high-leg kick.
25:05That's what Jazz, I mean, this would not be a bad time
25:08to try to steal third base.
25:16Two-and-oh.
25:33And the pitch.
25:35Three-and-oh on Caballero.
25:39Case in point, he is really taking a long time, you know,
25:43to throw the pitch to hold Jazz close.
25:46He's almost lost the hitter.
25:48Got the arrow with 3-0 right here.
25:56And that's ball four.
25:58That's the third walk so far in the game for Kahano.
26:02It's that read last night.
26:06I don't think the Yankees had a walk last night, right?
26:08Zero walks that don't happen in the major leagues anymore.
26:12Here's Ryan McMahon.
26:16Still looking for his first extra base hit.
26:18He has five hits and 39 at-bats.
26:20He did a 128 starting season.
26:24And the Yankees have a recipe for a double steal
26:27out there on the bases.
26:31Both Jazz and Caballero each have six stolen bases.
26:48Take a second look there.
26:50You seldom see Aaron Boone with a jersey on, right?
26:53With the Jackie Robinson, number 42, everybody.
27:03And a strike to McMahon.
27:22Ground ball.
27:23And a great grab there by Frazier.
27:26Turns it into an out and saves a run
27:28as the runners move up second and third two outs.
27:31Yeah, you're not going to know how this inning plays out
27:33until we look at this at bat.
27:34But this saved a run and possibly a big inning,
27:37a great play there by Frazier
27:41to keep that in the infield and get a huge out.
27:45Kahano wins.
27:47Moves to his left and down goes Frazier.
27:50Oh-ho!
27:53Down goes Frazier.
27:54That was Howard Cosell, wasn't it?
27:56Amazing call.
27:58It was against George Foreman.
28:00And he went down, I think, six times.
28:03Should have just stayed down the first time
28:05and saved himself.
28:071-0 on Grisham.
28:08Yankees have runners on second and third and two outs.
28:21Oh, strike one-on-one.
28:23She came to the ballpark today with that on your mind.
28:26Down goes Frazier.
28:27You think, I just hope this guy dies for one.
28:30I did not come to the ballpark thinking.
28:32Really?
28:32Yeah, I can't even tell you what I was thinking
28:34going to the ballpark.
28:40It's a big two-run single for Trent Grisham.
28:51And it's 3-0 ends.
28:53Well, Trent Grisham.
28:53Five RBIs off the bench the other night
28:56and a huge hit here.
28:57Two out hits when you're almost out of an inning.
29:00Just kill pitchers.
29:01Change-up.
29:02Not a bad pitch.
29:03He just goes with it.
29:09Any time you stay with that change-up,
29:12you have such a tendency to be out in front,
29:14kind of rolled it over.
29:15He stayed through it.
29:16Shot it through the left side.
29:18That's a big hit for the Yankees.
29:20Ben Rice takes a strike.
29:26See how the bat hits the ball and goes through it.
29:29It does not come around it and kind of give up on it.
29:31And if you do that with an off-speed pitch away,
29:34you're just going to roll it over to second base.
29:45The Yankees up 3-0.
30:00You have to admit Paul's a great spot in front of Judge.
30:05They're not blocking you.
30:06Absolutely.
30:07No doubt about it.
30:11But you do these things intentionally to, you know,
30:14that Rice is swinging the bat as good as anybody on the club
30:17all year.
30:18And so to have protection where you just can't pitch around
30:21it, great opportunity for Rice and the Yankees.
30:37Two and two.
30:41Well, you see, the under-the-hood numbers,
30:44they're all excellent.
30:47Hard hit rate tops.
30:50100 percentile.
30:54Ground ball.
30:56Grabbed by Neto.
30:57Steps on the bag and that'll do it.
30:58But two walks and a hit.
31:00The Yankees two runs and a 3-0 lead.
31:10It's time for How About That, right, Miller?
31:13Of course, about Jackie Robinson.
31:15First UCLA athlete to earn varsity letters in four sports in one year.
31:21Baseball, basketball, football, track.
31:23First Black Network TV sports analyst hired by ABC for the Major League Baseball Game of the Week,
31:282065, and his older brother, Matt Robertson, won the silver in the 200 meters at the 1936
31:34Berlin Olympics, finishing just a smidge right behind Jesse Owens.
31:41That's pretty cool.
31:42They had some athletes in that family.
31:45Unbelievable.
31:49Want to know on Adam Frazier high five ball right center judge back.
32:11He's on the track.
32:12He's at the wall.
32:13Oh, see ya.
32:14A homerun for Frazier, and the Angels are on the board at 3-1.
32:22You know, Michael, you need to say, and, you know, down goes Frazier.
32:25Well, he got off the mat, and he should have.
32:27But he went deep, though.
32:28Now it's downtown goes Frazier.
32:30That's where you get up, right?
32:36Hey!
32:37He's a pretty long home, Michael Frazier.
32:38How's that going?
32:39We're friends.
32:40Well, Frazier, they love him as a player.
32:42At the bottom of the lineup, just because he makes a ton of contact.
32:45He wrote a few home runs.
32:47That ball right there.
32:48He also was reaching for it.
32:50Didn't quite make it to the catcher's glove.
32:54Pits the net all upstairs.
33:00Well, everything is in sync there.
33:02You see that ball going right off the sweet spot in the bat.
33:10One on one.
33:15Meadow doubled down the left field line in the first inning.
33:18He was stranded at third.
33:24Ground ball.
33:26Caballero.
33:35He told you the Angels are nine and nine.
33:38Check this out, Paul.
33:39They've been two and two, three and three, five and five, six and six, seven and seven, eight and eight.
33:45The only one they missed was four and four.
33:47Well, it looks like they're on the way to 81 and 81.
33:50But you're not great.
33:51No, that's not going to get you to the playoffs.
33:56There's a strike to Trout.
34:25They're a good spot for a change up.
34:27I don't know if that was Wells call.
34:29He'll feel like he needed to.
34:31But you get Mike Trout in a fastball count and you challenge him.
34:35You're going to be asking for another baseball.
34:49And Mike Trout down swing.
34:51Yeah, back to back.
34:53Really good change up.
34:54Great movement down on both of them.
35:00I think that Mike Trout does sit off speed with two strikes.
35:04Off speed meaning a breaking ball usually.
35:06A lot of times as a hitter, you don't pick up the spin of a change up as easy as
35:11you do a breaking ball.
35:12And that's why I always thought it was probably the best one-two combo in baseball.
35:17It's always been and always will be fastball in the changing.
35:26Want to know on Sean Owell.
35:32You know, we joked around about them being 81 and 81, right?
35:35They've had 10 straight losing seasons.
35:39They have not had a winning record since 2015.
35:43Nice play by Jazz.
35:45Gets up.
35:45Fires.
35:46Got him.
35:47Put a star next to that one for Jazz Chisholm to end the inning.
35:51So Frazier gives him a run.
35:52And it's a 3-1 Yankee lead.
35:55But Jazz stopped him right there to end the inning.
36:06The telecast presented by authority of the New York Yankees.
36:09It may not be reproduced or retransmitted in any form.
36:11The accounts and descriptions of the game may not be disseminated
36:14without express written consent of the New York Yankees.
36:31So, Judge hit his seventh homerun of the year in the first inning.
36:34And it was the opposite way.
36:36First opposite field homerun of the year for him.
36:39He's pulled five and one to center.
36:44And that one's pulled and knocked down by Peraza.
36:48Fires the first and picked by Sean Ebel to get Judge.
36:53Well, it's never been a question about Peraza's defense.
36:57His positive hit extremely hard from Eric Judge.
36:59He didn't quite get it.
37:00They got an easy bounce back to his hand and strong enough arm to still get Eric Judge.
37:08It's a quick reaction to to bare hand that ball and get rid of it.
37:16Bellinger takes high.
37:31Scott the other way.
37:32Bellinger walked in the first.
37:34In the series, one for five.
37:36He had yesterday off.
37:43Grisham and Rice, who also didn't start, ended up being used as pinch hitters in the game yesterday.
37:51And Bellinger had a bat and actually was sniffing the end of it, but he never did get up to
37:55the plate.
38:05And that one is looped into right center field.
38:07That's going to dunk in for a base hit.
38:09It gets past Adele, backing up is Trout.
38:12But Bellinger gets the second with a double.
38:16That's hustling out of the box.
38:17And a good read as soon as Cody Bellinger saw that Adele, it got by him.
38:23He did not hesitate.
38:24And again, the play is in front of you as you run it down first baseline.
38:27But if he doesn't come up with it, chances are you can just cruise into second base, which he did.
38:36At this point, he just opened it five.
38:38And you know, wow, he got by him too.
38:46We talked to game one where Adele has really worked on his defense.
38:51It's always been kind of a question mark.
38:53His power is his offensive numbers.
38:55He always felt like we're going to be fine.
38:57But defensively, he's been pretty solid this year.
39:04The double by Bellinger, third hit for the Yanks.
39:11And they've also drawn three walks.
39:13So they've had the good old traffic.
39:18We had a little traffic today, too, didn't we, Mike?
39:21A little bit more than it's been, yeah, a little bit more.
39:23Not terrible.
39:28It's one of those words that, now that we use it in baseball, it could be a good thing or
39:32a bad thing.
39:33Baseball's good.
39:34Deegan's bad.
39:35Deegan is horrible.
39:37I know when I get through all the game notes, and I'm not even on the Deegan yet, coming from
39:41Westchester, it's a bad day.
39:43Yeah, not great.
39:47And Stanton strikes out for the second time against Kochanowicz, two-way.
39:56High target, then right down the middle.
40:03Up at the fastball.
