00:00As you said you watched him do
00:02it at close range what stands
00:03out for you Clayton for him at
00:05third base it's just his hands I
00:08mean he is just he's always
00:09moving first of all if you
00:10watch him he's always moving
00:11he's always jumping with the
00:13pitch and then just his ability
00:15to get to balls with his glove
00:16is just incredible and then one
00:18of the best arms I've seen I
00:19think you could talk about him
00:20and Manny in this division
00:23especially Matt Chapman I mean
00:24those three guys right there some
00:27of the best third base arms I've
00:28ever seen and they're all in
00:30this division so there's not a
00:31lot of balls down that line or
00:32we feel great about getting
00:33knocks when we're on the Dodgers
00:36and like Oral said he makes a
00:38great habit of just taking
00:40unorthodox ground balls during
00:41batting practice he knows he can
00:44make the routine plays it's just
00:45everything else that he wants to
00:46work on he's a worker he's out
00:49there he's a he's a worker he's
00:50I know he's in the cage a lot
00:52too and it's you know we've
00:53talked about it we do some
00:54visualization things that I
00:56used to do used to do it too
00:57and you never he's always
00:59prepared you know so I'm
01:00hopeful he gets back to the
01:02player he can be popped up out
01:05in front of home plate and here
01:06it comes Arenado races in for

01:49around for another day and see
01:50the new ring and you know get to
01:52do all that with the guys so I'm
01:54excited about that it's a it's
01:55a new chapter for me which I'm
01:57super fired up about and you
01:59know at the end of the day this
02:01is such a great organization I
02:02think they're going to let me
02:03stick around a little bit too so
02:04it'll be great or all I think
02:06you just got surpassed for a
02:08humble brag of the broadcast

03:05you
03:07and
03:07you
03:08you
03:13I
03:14Now, as long as the numbers are
03:17at the full skills,
03:18which is the 1,203-string numbers
03:20from the kids' number and the player.
03:23Team 63 years this season,
03:25losing the leads in 347,
03:28which are the driver of the game at the school.
03:31And with the two of them,
03:32losing the number of kids in the middle of 60 games,
03:35with a selection on January 23,
03:37bringing 400 and 435.
03:40And we have a little right now,
03:41The free field line is all there.
03:45And it's in control.
03:46The Louisiana is around second.
03:48They take the third round of draw.
04:18.
04:27.
04:38From World Series hero to opening day starter, and Yama was on his game, Kirsch.
04:45Oh, man, it was so fun to watch.
04:47I mean, obviously, you talk about the split, what he threw, I think he threw 29 of him over
04:50there, and over half of the time, the Dimebacks were swinging and missing.
04:53The only pitch they really got to was his heater, and they got a few hits off his fastball,
04:57but cut or slider, curveball, he had everything working, great command, and finished it strong
05:02going through six.
05:02That was pretty fun to watch.
05:04Kirsch, did you ever split your fingers?
05:06Couldn't do it.
05:07I tried last year a little bit, and it just was horrible, but I did try it last year,
05:10because I couldn't throw a changeup to save my life for my whole career.
05:12So, someone said, hey, try to split, everybody's doing it, and didn't work for me then.
05:17And so, that's why I'm here talking to you guys.
05:19I think you did all right.
05:20Yeah.
05:21So, here's Blake Trinan out of the bullpen, and a big spot for his first go around here
05:26in 2026.
05:27Oral, what have you seen over the past couple of years from Blake Trinan?
05:31Well, Blake is finally getting healthy, so he can get back to his form.
05:34In the beginning of spring, he was lights out.
05:37He hit a few bumps in the road as he made some adjustments, but this is big for him.
05:42When he gets the ball going right to left with his breaking ball, and then that two-seamer
05:47that we just saw on the last pitch going left to right, he's almost impossible to hit.
05:55He's almost impossible to hit two and one on Moreno.
05:57It'll be him, then Arenado, and Santana.
06:01And off the sinker, he gets a fly ball into right center and a tough run and grab by Paez.
06:08Man, oh man, what an effort.
06:10Every step counted.
06:12It started with the pitch, and he got some movement from trying, and then Paez with the great break
06:17and the great route, accuracy on the route, speed with the legs, and great soft hands at the end.
06:23And this is a tough play right here, because an outfielder, he's reading the swing, and he sees the big
06:27swing from, from Gabby.
06:29And then all of a sudden, he gets a good read on it, making that nice running, diving play out
06:33there in the short right center field.
06:39One down, Arenado.
06:42First pitch swing, that's a base hit to center.
06:47Kersh, talk about movement with Blake Trinan as far as when you're not healthy, maybe the pattern of the movement
06:53compared to when you're healthy.
06:55Yeah, like you said, Blake looks healthy right now.
06:58I think that's the biggest thing for him.
06:59His arm angle looks a little bit lower, which is good for him.
07:01That means his sinker is going to sink, and you can already see the below.
07:05It's 96, 97, which I don't remember him at a time last year being that high, so that's huge.
07:10And then, you know, with the sinker, that ball was just a little bit up to Arenado right there.
07:14But when he's throwing that right with his sweeper, like that one right there, like you said, it's almost unhittable
07:19as a righty.
07:21And, you know, lefty, he's going to work in a cutter a little bit too at times, and they really
07:25need this guy at the back end this year.
07:27And I expect a big year from him.
07:31He's ahead on the very choosy Carlos Santana, who takes away Santana, the active leader in walks in Major League
07:47Baseball, with 1,300 and 30 of them in his career at age 39.
07:55And he leans back 2 and 1.
07:59When you're not healthy and your velocity's down, what happens with the ball, even though it's breaking the same, it's
08:05breaking earlier out of your hand and has a pattern that the hitters can pick up.
08:09When you have the velocity and the health and you get down the hill, the break is late.
08:14And the later the break, it's usually sharper and it's more deceiving to the hitter.
08:23There you see the games played.
08:24That's why the Diamondbacks go and get somebody like this for a moment.
08:28On opening day.
08:30As the tying run.
08:31It is twenty two hundred and fifth game.
08:35And Santana opens up to fly it to right center.
08:38Pi has is there to make the catch to go.
08:44But I think they picked up a guy like Santana and Nolan are not always for the simple fact that
08:49they've got a lot of games played.
08:50Plus they bring a lot of experience to this club that was in a World Series in 23 that.
08:57Almost really didn't belong there.
08:58There were so many young players.
08:59They just got hot at the right time.
09:01As a wild card and ended up slipping into the World Series.
09:04You feel like they were early that year, Louise.
09:06Maybe a year early.
09:08The way the maturity level of these guys are coming.
09:11I think that there was times where it looked like almost a deer in the headlights.
09:15But they played well when they had to to get there.
09:22See the last five seasons for Arizona.
09:26Winners of the National League with that eighty four win regular season.
09:31Wave and a miss man.
09:33That's the sweeper Clayton you're talking about with the east west from trying to.
09:37Yeah that one was so good.
09:39You know 1 0 count right there to be able to give him a swing like that is just nasty.
09:45I mean that thing is you can't hit that.
09:47You just don't swing at it.
09:48Hope it's a ball.
09:49We'll get another one.
09:52There was.
09:53Yeah he did.
09:54Yeah.
09:54And you'll get another one here too.
09:55Probably he's.
09:56They're going to expose a young player.
09:58Up there when they see he doesn't make an adjustment.
10:01That's what you talked about Clayton about.
10:03Having a.
10:03Veteran catcher like Will over there they.
10:06He sees it.
10:06He knows what he wants to call.
10:08Yeah.
10:08Let's see what he does.
10:09It makes the most sense to throw sweeper you're right but.
10:12Yeah they're going to.
10:13He did.
10:14It's a good take.
10:15It was a good take.
10:15That was a good one.
10:16So off of that.
10:17Where do you go now that you've seen him take one.
10:20It's really hard because.
10:21I don't know of Lawler's face trying and so obviously his sinker.
10:24Would be a great pitch right here but.
10:26It's hard to go away from the sweeper when.
10:28It's it's moving like that so.
10:30My guess is probably just another sweeper.
10:33It was.
10:34And he tied him up in knots.
10:36That was a good one.
10:38And he's got a.
10:42He's got a.
10:44He's got a.
10:45Blake trying and a face full of sweepers.
10:48To cut down Lawler at stretch time.
13:08La Playa awaits Freddie Freeman just been told Freddie Freeman nominated for an Academy Award for his acting in the
13:20Will Ferrell video.
13:21Look out Oh Tony gets hit by the just entering Taylor Clark who will not be receiving any holiday cards
13:29from the Dodger fans.
13:37Taylor Clark pitched for the Diamondbacks a few years ago came back signed as a free agent from Kansas City
13:45last year.
13:46You see that pitch up and in a tonic pointed at Santana coming to you show hey where's the armor
13:57on that because of course that's his pitching arm that leads when he's a left hand hitter.
14:05Good to see he's all right he's over at first and here is the newly minted Dodger Kyle Tucker.
14:11Kersh we just saw one of the many faces of Shohei Ohtani who's just fun to watch.
14:17Yeah he's he's a blast you know I think right here if he gets hit by the pitch they're up
14:20to.
14:21I wouldn't be surprised if he gets hit by the two I wouldn't be surprised if you try to see
14:23him steal a base right here the Diamondbacks thing the same thing.
14:26I just thought it's a good situation to run.
14:28I don't know how far the runners I really haven't seen him since he was a starter here a long
14:32time ago but I know I know Moreno throws really really well back there but if there's something they can
14:38pick up to get a good jump I wouldn't be surprised if Shohei tries to go right here.
14:41He's kind of kicking out his leg after the dive back as well but I mean look he is just
14:48visual there's always some reaction you can read his emotion yeah he's always doing something we don't know what he's
14:56doing but as long as he keeps getting knocked so we get one of found away by Tucker I mean
15:05we know Shohei can run he was twenty for twenty six last week.
15:11That's the last year on the bases who's the fastest Dodger fastest dot show he's probably the fastest for a
15:21key case call me over he wants me to come over keep it no keep that's definitely not the fastest
15:26that's funny I'm trying to think who else we have that's the second throw over by the way Clayton so
15:35we'll see if he activates here we've got to go after two.
15:41He holds this time and he holds this time and that's a climbing strike on a changeup.
15:44He has with his range but we don't see him steal a lot of bags yeah I think I'm going
15:49to stick with Shohei yeah potty some tail when they get going pretty fast but yeah I think Shohei Kim
15:57if he was active and you could say yeah yeah for sure for sure Tony dancing off a first that's
16:03a take on a change up two and two.
16:08Who's the fastest guy in this booth it's got to be you oh that's now we're really the way we
16:15ran away the way we ran away from Herschel or last night two to take on another change up three
16:25and two three straight change ups for Clark it's always an interesting pitch for me.
16:32It's not easy when you have first base open but Santana is slightly off but that big hole over there
16:37and you throw him change ups that let him slash it through the hole a lot easier.
16:42There goes Ohtani that's launched to right center field and here comes the speed you're talking about Ohtani races around
16:50third and he can backstroke home an RBI double on the first hit as a Dodger for Kyle Tucker and
17:00it's five to two.
17:01They got to get the ball Kersh yeah his first one that's a good one that's a good feeling to
17:06get that one out in the first first game I didn't look did he a nice swing right there did
17:21Tucker do the Freddie Freeman at second base I never did like did he taught him.
17:26He's got to loosen up the hips though well there was like a there was like a class by Maggie
17:33Rojas right he taught him how to do it I heard that's why the hips didn't move as much as
17:41key case normally do the authentication going on right there for his first hit as a Dodger baseball's greatest superhero
17:49the authenticator taking care of the double for Tucker.
17:54But again it's a relentless lineup and it is a difficult matchup to not have left handers in that bullpen
18:03regardless of reverse splits and Apple spoke to center Mookie Betts an RBI single it is six to two.
18:29There's another pitch up in the strike zone stays right to the middle of the field stays on top of
18:34that ball nice line drive swing the center to bring in Tucker guys the Diamondbacks bullpen last year had an
18:43ERA.
18:43Just short of five they were four eighty two that's twenty seventh in baseball and now the Freddie champ well
18:57this has been a struggle for the D-backs forty two different players made at least one appearance last year
19:03for the Diamondbacks out of the bullpen.
19:04Wow.
19:07Seventeen different guys recorded at least one
19:09save.
19:11It's a record record in major league.
19:13But a lot of guys with some of the players
19:28The Andy Freeman launches left field way back
19:32there to the wall and a beautiful jumping grab by Waller.
19:37very similar to a catch he made in
19:40spring training recently right at
19:42the wall to take extra bases from
19:45Freeman boy that's a great play
19:47out there tough angle to to go out
19:49in that corner in Dodgers
19:50Stadium they see him tracking it
19:53makes it nice and looks speaks for
19:54the fence he's a great athlete
19:57first round former first round
19:59pick with the Diamondbacks short
20:01stop turning into an outfielder
20:03and he compared it to playing
20:05wide receiver growing up like
20:07being a slot receiver track the
20:09ball go get it and look he has not
20:12played much outfield at all his
20:13first game in the majors this is
20:15very recently eight days ago
20:18against the Cubs almost the same
20:21body movement and he's just got a
20:25good knack for the baseball I
20:26think that's this is going to
20:27make him a better overall player
20:29be able to relax as a hitter and
20:31go out there play the game the
20:34right way being an outfielder now
20:36instead of in the infield you
20:37can relax a little bit more you
20:39feel that Louise relaxation
20:42there's no doubt I was an
20:43infielder when I came up and when
20:44they of course I had Ken
20:46Caminetti playing playing third
20:50base so I was a bag well and
20:52myself for all third baseman so
20:54we were going to put you at
20:55first and and I ended up going to
20:57the outfield this is first game
20:59playing in a three level stadium
21:00too by the way which is not easy
21:02to do and I mean you saw a small
21:04amount of games in the
21:05Dominican just to go get his feet
21:07under yeah and you know we talk
21:11about the different levels here
21:13you know in spring training
21:14you're playing in smaller
21:15ballparks now you've got a third
21:17deck up here and the ball just
21:19the angles and everything looks
21:20different coming off the bat
21:32right back at it on opening day
21:38Will Smith the World Series
21:56hero first short arms Clayton the
21:59change of right into that down and
22:02in spot that's a that's tough
22:04was gonna was gonna handle that
22:05a lot of the time so that's just
22:07a tough tough pitch but that's
22:09what he does that's what he does
22:13that's gonna be it for Clark and
22:16the Diamondbacks right out of the
22:18gate with a lead of two nothing
22:22and then suddenly it's eight on
22:24answers by this Dodgers offense
22:31Will Smith on opening day at
22:35Dodgers Stadium this team in
22:38blue a wash it runs
23:08.
23:10.
23:10.
23:11.
23:12We're going to get that we're going to come
23:13and as well we know,
23:15it works for a 7th full skills
23:16with just a 12.3 straight-yard racetrack
23:19and it's not going to be clear.
23:22Game 60-3 games this season
23:24closing on the exit at 347.
23:26We're trying to figure it out.
23:27We're going to be casual.
23:29And with the children,
23:31closing on the distance,
23:3211 of the 60 teams
23:33with a selection on January 23,
23:36bringing 400 and 35.
23:37And move around for the field.
23:53Good luck with the football.
24:31first pitch a strike.
24:32Let's take a break to Max Muncy from the newcomer Andrew Hoffman into the ballgame who made his debut in
24:39May of last year out of this Diamondbacks pen in his mid 20s and look Louisa it feels a little
24:48bit like the same kind of game as we saw last year for Arizona yeah it really does I mean
24:53the bullpen was definitely not one of the strengths in the last few years for us and once again here
24:59you know they took advantage of gallon in the fifth
25:02inning and then they got to the bullpen they scored four in the fifth and then here again four in
25:06the seventh so this Dodger team they strike they strike fast and they'll get you some crooked numbers up there
25:12when they have to gallon had their number for a while Dodger one for thirteen to start the game but
25:18since then they're eight for fifteen with two home runs so but or you know I'm in a hurry and
25:24curse when when a team sees a guy a couple times after that first time around
25:28you start gauging pitches and trying to make adjustments up there and you know the offense will do that to
25:35you and then as a pitcher you guys got to try to stay on top and switching it up yeah
25:39you saw that with Yamamoto tonight at the top you know third time through with Marte Carol and Peridome will
25:45start to mix it up throwing the backdoor cutters and it's no different for these guys hitting you know when
25:50you when they start seeing a guy know how they're going to attack
25:52they can adjust and they can get going and find a different pitch to hit if it's not going good
25:56first time through so like you said there's just never a time to relax especially especially with two strikes the
26:07Dodgers have six two strike hits tonight their approach has been fantastic and you know we talk about the edges
26:14of three world championships and what they've learned when they were disappointed and they would pick apart the closer
26:22most games against the best hitters and against the best pitchers and they would figure out what they have to
26:27change and hitting with two strikes and putting the ball in play and not striking out was a major topic
26:32and I know Kirsch can add to that yeah absolutely I think you know these guys putting the ball in
26:39play moving runners all those different things are so it's so important you know the guys at the bottom of
26:44the lineup right here they should they would be hitting the bottom of the lineup anywhere else with Teo pies
26:49whoever's going to hit ninth Miggie right now and
26:52you know you know they start moving the lineup doing what they can do and get going back to the
26:56top and getting those guys four or five at bats every night it's going to be you know it's it's
27:00what we've seen all along it's what it's how it was designed it's how Andrew wants it yeah and I
27:04think what you just saw there a second ago you saw Mookie Betts talking to one of the hitting coaches
27:08I think these guys are very good at talking to each other communicate and there you see it again I
27:14mean these guys are going over game plan what they want to do what approach they want to take and
27:18I saw a couple of players doing it to each other like after an at bat they
27:21they talk to each other about okay this is what he's got let's try to stay off of this pitch
27:26go after certain pitches and counts you know they talk about a lot that I always over here is you
27:31know they they see the pitches and they know what they're throwing but it's it's what it feels like in
27:35the box which I always thought was interesting they're like hey this ball gets on you you feel it it
27:40feels heavier that you know hey this slider you see it it's slow it's you see it early don't worry
27:45about it and just stuff that you don't get on a scouting report you only get when you're in the
27:48batter's box and it's pretty insightful as a pitcher
27:51here to see bouncing ball to second base Marte and they do turn two so that'll do it for the
28:02seventh inning but a big inning for Los Angeles Tucker a double Betts a single in the Will Smith home
28:09run and it's a big lead for the Dodgers
28:12sets it up after some bad moves everything's going on going to show up it at
28:20the madrix has almost done in but it's now I don't love that you don't have to stop.
28:26Let's go.
28:26What people think we mentioned here?
28:30What people do have the problems with becoming an OP team team and a guy in the WEI field team
28:38in there is the only NFL team and we're not going to serve yet that it can continue to conduct
28:40out pretty much better and make it to
28:42135.
28:43A little break now for the real life.
28:46This ball is here, and they came in in the draw.
28:50The role is here in the second base.
28:52It's in the third and now.
28:53And it's in the last.
28:55All right.
28:56I think you did our first team.
28:57All right.
28:59Come on.
29:02All right.
29:03All right.
30:35starting April 19th the NBA
30:37playoffs are coming to NBC and
30:39Peacock whatever calendar
30:41program you use just X off
30:44Sunday all year long football
30:47basketball baseball here on NBC
30:50Sunday night we are your
30:52destination for sports whatever
30:54sport is your favorite sport but
30:56if you haven't watched Nicola
30:57Jokic and you're just a baseball
30:59fan like go watch some of his
31:01distributing some of his
31:03passes it is just brilliance
31:06for the Denver Nuggets is Alec
31:08Thomas leads off against Will
31:09Klein who got a whole show as he
31:14came into the game the lights
31:15went off you got drop kick
31:16Murphy's going on you throw four
31:18innings in a World Series 18 in
31:20a game and the entertainment
31:22folks are on board oral 74 pitches
31:25that all hover around 100 miles
31:27an hour he does have a breaking
31:28ball there it is right there and
31:30talk about changing speeds going
31:32from 100 down to 85 15 mile an
31:35hour north south most of the time
31:37because of the high fastball and
31:39then the twelve to six curveball
31:41that played through one of the
31:43best ever with the left arm I
31:45didn't throw 85 miles an hour
31:48how do you throw a curveball at
31:49heart this guy is unbelievable and
31:51you're seeing highlights here of
31:52game three of the World Series when
31:54we were out of pitching and we
31:55needed him to go four innings and
31:57I mean just he should never buy
31:59a dinner in Los Angeles after
32:01that he really propelled us to
32:02win that game and put us at a
32:05chance for Freddie to do what he
32:06did in the 18th there what did
32:08you think when he came out of the
32:10bullpen Clayton well we always
32:12knew he had unbelievable stuff you
32:13know we always knew you know
32:15that's kind of stuff we had when
32:16they traded him over from the
32:18Mariners I think it was just a
32:19control and a command issue and
32:21you know you got to give a lot
32:22of credit to our guys helping
32:24him with his mix and that's a
32:25tough hop and keep it right and
32:27he just he's really turning
32:29around pound in his own super
32:30confident and it all came
32:32together for that World Series
32:33game do you see a mechanical
32:36fix that all of a sudden got him
32:37in the zone a lot of people
32:38concentrate on the front side the
32:40glove side you know I don't know
32:41exactly what they did work on I
32:43just know that he his hips are
32:45probably the most mobile that
32:46you've ever seen you go watch
32:47him in the weight room and he
32:48looks like he's doing things
32:49that no hip should have should
32:51be able to do so he's obviously
32:52a huge dude but the mobility
32:54that he has and he's obviously
32:56really strong too he so he's
32:57kind of got the whole package
32:58and probably easy to adapt and
33:00basically everything that I
33:02couldn't do he can do so it's
33:03pretty fun to watch Will
33:04Klein or Shakira different kind
33:07of hips different kind of hips
33:08there's pitching hips you know
33:09the Dodgers talk about the bowl
33:11all the time and that's like our
33:12strength department's thing and
33:14the bowl is like the midsection
33:16into your hips and being able to
33:18use that well and it really
33:20helped me in my career with my
33:21back and they do a great job
33:22here trying to figure that out
33:24for you our generation the bowl
33:25with something you ate out of
33:26yeah no not here hey you know I
33:30think honestly with with him I
33:32think when he looks around the
33:33field he sees all these
33:34superstar players you don't want
33:36to be the weak link and I think
33:38he he focused in and tuned in
33:40there with him maybe so yeah I
33:42was a great inning though that's
33:43pretty fun to watch one two three
33:45on nine pitches football clock
34:15did not be good
34:19they just paid money so yeah
34:23all right
34:24well
34:25and
34:27and
34:27and
34:27we
34:28all right
34:30it
34:34thanks
34:35yeah

36:26World Series MVP Oral Hershiser
36:30here World Series hero Luis
36:32Gonzalez three times Cy Young
36:35winner MVP in 2014 Clayton
36:37Kershaw down at field level and
36:40an oral 1988.
36:42We showed we showed all the stuff
36:45you did on the mound.
36:46You had three hits as well in
36:49that.
36:50Postseason they did not in the
36:52World Series itself.
36:54Remember that Kersh turn back the
36:55clock.
36:55Pitchers hit.
36:56Oh my gosh.
36:57Yeah.
36:57I think it's a better product now
36:59that we're out or.
37:00You do.
37:01Yeah.
37:02I think it's better to have
37:03show a hitting with me.
37:04We're going to have a DH but I
37:06had a good time doing it.
37:07But yeah it's it's better.
37:09It's better.
37:09Let me ask you courage though.
37:11Is it is the only reason that
37:12you say that because you gave
37:14up hits to pitchers like
37:17including guys who played in
37:19this game tonight.
37:21Who was playing in this game.
37:23Blake Trinan.
37:25Oh geez.
37:26That doesn't.
37:26Did he.
37:27Yeah that was his first hit
37:27wasn't it.
37:28It was his only hit.
37:30Oh God.
37:31Oh good.
37:31Glad he has that on me.
37:33But the one thing about
37:34pitchers hitting that I would
37:35tell you that I would miss if
37:37I was playing.
37:38It really made you know what
37:40your stuff looked like.
37:41If you felt good and you knew
37:42the guy in the mound that you
37:43were facing and you're up there
37:45hitting and you see the ball
37:46well off him you're like I'm
37:47going to have a good night
37:48tonight.
37:48My hitters are going to get to
37:49this guy.
37:51Yeah 100 percent but we
37:52wouldn't have show on our
37:53team if we didn't have a D.A.
37:54So that that made a huge
37:56difference in these last few
37:57years.
37:58Well we have two choices here
37:59Clayton.
38:00We have two pieces of video.
38:01And we're going to choose the
38:02one that you're going to like
38:04instead of the Blake trying
38:05and hit.
38:05How does that sound for your
38:07for your NBC debut.
38:08I'm nervous but I'm ready.
38:09No I think you're going to
38:10like this one.
38:11We have the Blake trying and
38:12hit from 2014 all loaded up.
38:14But our producer Matt
38:15Porzello said let's not do it.
38:18We're going to do we're going
38:20to show something else about
38:21pitchers hitting as this three
38:23to come from Hoffman and it's
38:26poked to right field it's a base
38:27hit for Pa has who's had a very
38:29nice day at the plate.
38:30He's two for four with a three
38:32run homer up opening day.
38:35Clayton Kershaw you could swing
38:36a little bit huh.
38:38Oh yeah.
38:38That was a fun day.
38:39What do you got.
38:40Look at that big.
38:43I mean well that was kind of a
38:45nuke don't you think center
38:46field.
38:47You know what I was just upset
38:48the team scored after you
38:50because I wanted you to throw
38:51a shot hit the home run and
38:52have the perfect game for a
38:53pitcher.
38:54Thank you guys.
38:55Thanks for letting me see that
38:55on opening day.
38:56That's that's a rival game to
38:58Dodgers Giants.
38:59Yeah that was my favorite
39:00opening day right there.
39:01That was pretty special.
39:02That was my only homer so I'll
39:04keep that.
39:05Did you know it was gone.
39:06Off the bat.
39:08Well we'll ask in a second but
39:09first this.

39:28Off the bat.
39:29Were you sure.
39:30No.
39:30Did you see how fast I was
39:31running.
39:31I thought that's I could even
39:33run that fast now if I tried
39:34but I had no idea.
39:36I thought it was probably a
39:37line out to center field but
39:38you know opening day
39:39adrenaline and all that I
39:40find I mustered one out over
39:41the fence and just yeah it's
39:44a really fun day.
39:45It was awesome.
39:45Did you see how shallow the
39:46center fielder is playing.
39:48Yeah no respect Tom.
39:49Come on.
39:50No respect.
39:52The thing about Kirshen is
39:54hitting he was a tough out.
39:55He grinded it out no matter
39:57what he was in there
39:58shortening up.
39:59I don't know what you would
40:00do with the new ABS system
40:01your your stances were so low
40:03sometimes.
40:04Yeah.
40:04Just change it up.
40:05Keep the computer guessing.
40:11A quick look at the box score.
40:13That was Angel Pagan in center
40:16field.
40:17OK.
40:18Yeah.
40:18So just in case.
40:20No respect.
40:20You wanted to know.
40:21OK.
40:22Yeah.
40:22You're welcome.
40:23Here's for you.
40:24In case you run into him on
40:25the rubber chicken circle.
40:28Throw the first.
40:30Who'd you hit it on.
40:32Who was the.
40:32George Contos relief pitcher
40:34for the Giants.
40:35Yeah.
40:35See how quick he knew that
40:37answer.
40:37Oh yeah.
40:38Absolutely.
40:38I thought.
40:43Two and oh.
40:45Tony takes a big rip.
40:48Two and one.
40:53We watch it no tiny swing the
40:55bat so well and from one great
40:57left handed hitter to curse
40:58down there another great left
40:59handed hitter.
41:01I was showing before show hey.
41:03You know.
41:07Two and one.
41:10Three balls and a strike.
41:12But again to your point though
41:13I think it's a it's a good one
41:14to mention about the batting
41:16stances your stance doesn't
41:17matter anymore.
41:18The strike zone based on the
41:19challenge system is all about
41:21your height as measured by
41:23Major League Baseball and a
41:24lot of guys have shrunk this
41:25year.
41:26Fifty seven percent of your height
41:27is the top of the zone and
41:29twenty three percent of your
41:30center your height is the bottom
41:31of the zone.
41:33That's a rainbow out to
41:34center field and Alec Thomas
41:38squeezes out number two.
41:39I still think it's going to be
41:40difficult for an umpire
41:41especially if a hitter spreads
41:43out and kind of squats down a
41:44little bit to call that high
41:46pitch if he sees you know he's
41:49looking at the hitter and he
41:50sees that it's right it's out
41:51of the zone although that may
41:53be his strike zone but when
41:55he's crouched down it's not I
41:59think we're going to be on a
42:00huge learning curve the
42:01catchers the umpires the
42:03hitters the pitchers have
42:04pretty much been taken out of
42:06the equation.
42:07Yeah we saw one at least as of
42:09the time we hit air we saw one
42:11challenge by a pitcher today
42:13but it's going to be pretty
42:14rare you feel like right oral.
42:16I think so just because your
42:17eyes are moving and very few
42:19people land as solid as you
42:20should to keep your eyes still
42:22enough to be able to read the
42:23pitch.
42:23We we all think we know the
42:25strike zone from the mound.
42:27That was Peralta right earlier
42:29in the game was he the one
42:30the challenge I believe so.
42:31Got it right too.
42:32Yeah.
42:33But it's funny the
42:34competitiveness like I was we
42:36had Tarek Scooble on during a
42:37Tigers spring training game.
42:39And I said were you going to
42:40challenge yourself leave it to
42:41the catchers.
42:42And then the next start he
42:44challenged one like curse you.
42:46You know you're competitive
42:47right.
42:47If you know you can challenge
42:48you might think about it.
42:49Yeah.
42:50You know I think with the
42:51catchers nowadays though like I
42:52know our guys will rush you
42:54know you said Barsi guys like
42:55this that are just so good at
42:56moving the ball around to make
42:57it look good.
42:59You can't trust your eyes out
43:00on 60 feet away because I I
43:02thought some balls were right
43:03there and then you go back and
43:04look and I'm giving the evil
43:06glare at the umpire for no
43:07reason you know.
43:08So it's like three or four
43:09balls off so these guys can
43:10just move the ball and make it
43:12look so good.
43:14So yeah I wouldn't trust
43:15myself but yeah I might be so
43:16competitive sometimes I just
43:17do it anyway.
43:20Dodgers seven two strike hits
43:22that's a take it's two and two.
43:23Did you have an evil glare or
43:25over.
43:26Yeah.
43:26I was going to ask Kirsch and
43:27this is the worst broadcaster
43:28rule to break two outs two
43:30strikes but did you want your
43:32catcher to support you when
43:33you're on the mound and then
43:34tell you later in between
43:35innings that no it was a ball
43:36Kirsch.
43:37That's a good question.
43:38I think more than anything.
43:40Yeah.
43:40He just needed to keep me from
43:41getting tossed.
43:42That's the biggest you dodged
43:47the question about your evil
43:48player.
43:49I did.
43:49Nice guy with spectacles.
43:51Yeah.
43:52I they the umpires nicknamed me
43:55the surveyor so I would just
43:57kind of stand and just look in
43:59like I was trying to see that
44:01that was a strike.
44:02Yeah.
44:03I can see it.
44:04Yeah.
44:04I did not get any evil stairs
44:06but I would like set up my
44:07tripod and.
44:11Three and two on Tucker who
44:13just picked up his first
44:14Dodger hit last inning.
44:17and he takes.
44:24Baseball is back and right now
44:25FanDuel you get a profit boost to
44:28bet tonight's matchup live.
44:30Just head to the FanDuel app and
44:31get in the show with a boosted bet.
44:33And.
44:36It's our guy Anthony Rizzo who is
44:38back in the day and that rundown
44:40you've you've seen it right
44:41courage the rundown where he
44:43yells Frederick.
44:44Yes.
44:45Freddie Freeman.
44:46Yes I have.
44:47I have.
44:47I think they face each other too
44:49like Rizzo struck him out or
44:50something pitching.
44:51At one point.
44:52We'll have to ask Anthony down
44:54the line here when he joins us.
44:55Yeah.
44:56He's doing this.
44:57Oh look out.
44:58Mookie bats stuck in cover.
45:00It came inside.
45:02That's another plunking.
45:03Ohtani got hit in the seventh.
45:06And bats had to peel away.
45:10What's it like on the bench
45:11right now curse.
45:11I know my culture what it would
45:13be like.
45:14Yeah.
45:14So I think.
45:15You know we're reasonable
45:16people oral I think.
45:18I think.
45:19Okay.
45:20I think Clark hit Shohei with a
45:21cutter.
45:22Yeah.
45:23And then Mookie got hit with.
45:25What looked like a bad like
45:27hanging slider.
45:28So either way it doesn't look
45:29great because it's both first
45:30pitch on each at bat.
45:32So.
45:33Guys aren't loving that.
45:34You don't want to see that
45:35especially with those two guys.
45:36But.
45:37I think they'll probably let it
45:38go for the time being.
45:39But if both of those are
45:40fastballs.
45:41I think you'd see a little bit
45:42more.
45:43Chirping from the dugout.
45:44Yeah.
45:44My day was I bright tooth for
45:46tooth and it didn't matter
45:47when it happened.
45:48The only one you get away with
45:49is the backup curveball.
45:51Yeah.
45:51But everybody in the ballpark
45:52except the umpire that
45:53warns both.
45:54Yeah.
45:55Just knows that that wasn't on
45:56purpose.
45:57Or Clayton you just jump in
45:58their pool later in the year
45:59right.
46:00Oh.
46:00We can't do that.
46:02Is that how it goes.
46:03Yeah.
46:04We got in trouble for that.
46:05Yeah.
46:05Come on guys.
46:06Couldn't do it.
46:07Couldn't do it.
46:09It's all right.
46:09The Diamondbacks have beat me
46:10plenty over the years so it's
46:12even.
46:13Jason just cut me by the knees
46:14right here in the box.
46:15Wow.
46:16No.
46:17It's not.
46:17It's not a you thing.
46:18It's not about you.
46:20It's just about swimming.
46:21People just enjoy swimming
46:22right Clayton.
46:23Of course.
46:23Here's Freddie.
46:24Let's go.
46:25Here's Freddie.
46:28First pitch away ball one.
46:30Boy Hoffman Hoffman is really
46:32struggling right now with his
46:33command.
46:34And he's got a tough hitter
46:36right now.
46:41Seven grand slams.
46:43That's a lot of it bats.
46:44In a big spot.
46:46Freddie Freeman rips it to first.
46:48Santana knocks it down.
46:50His throw is there.
46:52To retire the side.
46:54Freeman put a hurt on it.
46:55Santana got in front of it.
46:57The Dodgers have three outs to
46:59get for a win.
47:06Four out.
47:16Pretty much anymore.
47:24There are two guys that get
47:25It's a wrap!
47:25Look for everybody to Vr.year!
47:29What's
47:30happening now? You're
47:32watching musician and the 81
47:32303 16966. Oh Lord.
47:33That what is
47:34The Internationalhancer.
47:34That's so admired.
49:19You're watching opening day on NBC presented by Adobe.
49:258 2 Dodgers with the lead couple of four run innings Perdomo a two run homer Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up
49:34a Perdomo home run in the fourth.
49:36But the seventh inning the Dodgers swelled offensively as they typically do and they lead eight to two as Tanner
49:46Scott comes out of the bullpen.
49:48The left hander who is such an important piece for this Dodgers team the league hit his fastball better last
49:54year or what do you want to see from him to start this year.
49:58Well Tanner likes to throw to one side of the plate.
50:00We've got a lefty on the field that did that for a long time and ended up in the Hall
50:03of Fame.
50:04But Tanner needs to use both sides of the plate and get that breaking ball.
50:08You see a guy that loves to live with his fastball start off his 2026 with two breaking balls.
50:16It's got to be music to the ears of Dave Roberts as two strikes went away again that gets flicked
50:25down the left field side and Hernandez slowly into foul ground for our number one.
50:31If there's somebody on the Dodgers staff that needs to have a hot start it's Tanner Scott it's one thing
50:37to throw well in spring training it's another thing when you revisit the place the first year where you had
50:43a real rough year and you really couldn't find it throughout the year don't end up on the playoff roster
50:48to win the World Series but now you're back as an integral piece and it would be great for him
50:53to have a fast start.
50:57I think he's pitching in this inning too with a purpose because I believe that they wanted Corbin to get
51:05an unorthodox at bat here.
51:07They don't want to get him hot and good at bat here carries over and into tomorrow and then you
51:11flip Perdomo over here to hit right handed.
51:14Once he had a first two gone quickly.
51:17You know sometimes those last at bats in a game that you're going to lose can carry over in a
51:21game too.
51:22You have a good at bat get a knock.
51:23You start feeling good about it and I think Dave Roberts knows that and wants to kind of keep these
51:28guys off balance in that last A.B.
51:30I think it's a really good point.
51:33You know there's all this fanfare of opening day and it's 53,000 plus here and what a show and
51:38a cinematic presentation by the Dodgers folks.
51:42But then you have to go do 161 more times and there's a lot to weigh for a manager as
51:49the Diamondbacks tried to avoid just running through their bullpen.
51:55I mean they just couldn't get anybody coming out of there that was effective to get these guys out of
52:01course you're facing a Dodger team that's got some really good offensive players you know Will Smith comes up with
52:06some big two out hits and Freddie didn't have any hits but he hit the ball extremely hard and I
52:11didn't have anything to show for it.
52:16Meantime Dodgers pitchers if this is caught are going to close the game retiring 18 of the last 19.
52:23Mookie Betts makes the catch.
52:24And the two time defending champions.
52:27are in the win column on opening day.
52:318-2.
52:32The Dodgers take care of the Diamondbacks.
52:35Thanks, sir.
52:36Yamamoto with the W.
52:37He also gets some run support,
52:39which he didn't get much of, yes, last year.
52:42So watch out for a possible Cy Young candidate
52:45having a big year.
52:46He would be the first ever Japanese-born
52:48Major League Baseball player to win a Cy Young award.
52:52And he would like that hardware, certainly.
52:548-2.
52:55The Dodgers win.
52:56More to come on the other side
52:58from Dodger Stadium after this.
53:19.
53:20.
53:2063 years this season, losing 18 to 347,
53:24which runs third, and then as well.
53:27And with the two of them, losing on the distance,
53:30and the middle of the 60 games,
53:31with a sledge line, losing 33, 400, and 435.
53:37If you look right now,
53:38we're going to be real-minded,
53:39this ball is a bear, and it came in,
53:42and it's wrong, losing the eyes,
53:44and it's 18 to 35, and it's not a draw.
53:47And the second is now on the line,
56:14Check out these Peacock Picks of the Week.
56:17First, Ted is back.
56:18Stream a new season of the series from Seth McFarlane.
56:21Then bring home the wonder of Wicked for Good.
56:24Streaming now on Peacock.
56:25And come back for more MLB action on Sunday Night Baseball.
56:29The Guardians face the Mariners.
56:31Live this Sunday, 7 p.m. Eastern.
56:32Only on Peacock with Rick Manning and Ryan Roland-Smith and Adam Adovino.
56:38Downstairs, Bob Costas is with Kyle Tucker off his first Dodger hit.
56:43Bob?
56:43All right, Jason, thanks.
56:45Double, RBI double, and a run scored as the Dodgers scored four in the bottom of the seventh, broke the
56:50game open.
56:51This is your first game that's counted as a Dodger, taking spring training out of it.
56:56How does it feel to wear the uniform of the two-time world champions?
56:59It feels great.
57:00Hopefully, you know, at the end of this year we can become a third in a row.
57:04But, I mean, it started off well tonight.
57:07Audience and, you know, the fans coming out and supporting us was unbelievable.
57:10It sold out.
57:11I mean, they come out and support us, and we try and do the best we can for them
57:14and try and win as many games as possible.
57:16So it's an unbelievable night.
57:17You played on an Astro team that was very successful, that was a winning culture there.
57:22You played with the Cubs, Wrigley Field, all that history, that fan base.
57:26This is great in a different way.
57:28How is it different?
57:30I mean, each city and team's unique.
57:32You know, you never play with the same team twice.
57:34There's always a little bit of a shakeup with the roster.
57:36But, I mean, I've played with some unbelievable players and teams in the past,
57:40and this is another one of those teams.
57:43So, I mean, there's some phenomenal players on this roster and, you know, phenomenal people.
57:48They love the city of L.A. and try and do the best for everyone that comes out and supports
57:52us.
57:53So we're sure to try and ride this all year long.
57:55When you look around this clubhouse and you see Shohei Otani and you see future Hall of Famers like Mookie
58:02Betts and Freddie Freeman
58:03and what Yamamoto did last year in the postseason, this is something that may be just a cut above with
58:10all due respect to any other situation.
58:12Yeah, I mean, the ownership group here in the front office has done a phenomenal job with putting this roster
58:17together and, you know, doing their part.
58:20So we've just got to come out and do ours.
58:22So, I mean, you know, none of these games are given to you.
58:25You've still got to go out and earn every single one of them.
58:27So we've just got to continue working hard and playing hard and trying to win as many games as possible.
58:31Good starters at Dodger.
58:33Thanks for stopping by, Kyle.
58:34Appreciate it.
58:34Kyle Tucker, back upstairs to Jason Bonetti.
58:36Bob, thank you and thanks to Kyle Tucker as well.
58:39A strong outing in Game 1 in Dodger Blue.
58:43We'll wrap it from up here in the booth.
58:45Coming up after this, the Dodgers are winners 8-2 on opening day on NBC.
