00:00Julio Rodriguez takes ball one
00:02Williams had a 2 18 ERA in the
00:04second half of last season it
00:06was tied with Tarek Scoble for
00:08the best in the American League
00:09and over his last five starts
00:11plus his one playoff start his
00:13ERA was one point four six so
00:15he finished strong just like the
00:17Guardians had to to advance to
00:19the playoffs one ball and no
00:21strikes here goes the runner at
00:23first throw down the second by
00:24Naylor good throw and Donovan is
00:26out.
00:28What a throw a seed from Bo
00:30Naylor that's exactly why he's
00:32behind the plate the offense will
00:34come well but the bottom line is
00:37the pitch receiving the game
00:38calling obviously rock it on
00:41behind the plate I thought Donovan
00:42had an excellent jump and a
00:45perfect throw it's gonna get him
00:51Naylor caught 27 runners trying to
00:54steal last year and he has one
00:57right here to gun down Brendan
00:58Donovan ball count goes to three
01:01balls and no strikes on Julio
01:03Rodriguez Williams having trouble
01:06with that four seed fastball to
01:08get it downhill even the called
01:09strikes seem to be above the
01:11belt ball for so two walks in this
01:17first inning now one of those
01:20walks erased on the caught stealing
01:22so Rodriguez a good base dealer in his
01:24own right takes over at first base
01:26with Josh Naylor coming up you see
01:28the 83 walks the most in the major
01:31leagues for Gavin Williams he said
01:33he did make a mechanical change
01:35around the midway point of the
01:37season where when his hands were at
01:38the resting position they used to be
01:40at the belt he brought them up to
01:42the chest and you see him there
01:43right across the letters that is
01:45something that he worked on that he
01:47felt got him a little bit more
01:48rhythm in his delivery a ground ball
01:50off the bat of Josh Naylor ends the
01:52inning with a force out for those of

04:121-0 Cleveland leads, top of the second.
04:14Let's send it downstairs to the third member of our crew.
04:16Here's Honey Watney.
04:17Well, we see Bo Naylor stepping to the plate right now,
04:19and Steven Vogt told me he thinks that he's poised to really break out this season.
04:23He's switched from a leg kick to a toe tap,
04:25and that's led to more consistency offensively.
04:28But he's also been more of a vocal leader on the team.
04:30So I asked him if perhaps his brother getting traded from the Guardians
04:34helped him to be more vocal and be more of a leader.
04:37And people I spoke with say the brothers are always close,
04:39but there is that older brother dynamic with Bo being the younger brother
04:44that may have freed him to be more of a leader in the clubhouse, Wayne.
04:47And it was Bo Naylor hitting a high fly ball to shallow right field
04:51as Rayleigh comes in for it.
04:52Young is out, but Rayleigh takes over the right fielder for the catch.
04:56It's an interesting question to ask because, you know, there was,
04:59Josh Naylor especially has just kind of a big personality to begin with.
05:02So you could see where Bo Naylor might feel a little bit lost
05:05in the shadow of the older brother.
05:07Well, that's tough, especially when you get to the organization.
05:09You have the older brother being successful,
05:11and you struggle offensively.
05:13But he kept working an excellent game caller and pitch framer.
05:17I think he's going to be a weapon.
05:18He seemed to have a fun time playing with his brother and team candidate at WBC.
05:23I think I agree a thousand percent that he's going to take the next step.
05:25Here's Reese Hoskins looking at the strike.
05:27Neither Naylor brother has hit much in the matchups against each other.
05:31Bo's one for 15, and Josh is two for 16.
05:33Well, nobody wants to buy dinner, that's what that is.
05:37Here's Reese Hoskins as he takes upstairs.
05:40Hoskins at one time was a very feared slugger in the middle of an order
05:44for the Philadelphia Phillies.
05:46Some injuries have derailed him a bit over the years,
05:48but he still hits the ball really hard.
05:50Look at his exit velocities, and he certainly is up there
05:53as far as the top in the major leagues
05:55as far as guys who hit the ball hard and hit it hard off.
05:59Posted a career-high hard hit rate of 46%
06:02last year, so the elder statesman still has
06:06the power to get his foot down.
06:08He's a good guy for a team like the Guardians to have around.
06:11He strikes out here on a high fastball from Kirby,
06:13and that's the second out here in the second inning.
06:17When we talked about in the first,
06:19that fastball is so important.
06:21It just stays true on the plane, goes through the target.
06:25Very difficult to be able to get on top of that
06:27with that high velocity, and now he's doing a good job thus far
06:31to be able to change the eye level as well.
06:33CJ Cephas is the left fielder for Cleveland
06:36as he fouls one off.
06:37We talked about Quan moving over to center field.
06:40It gives the Guardians some opportunities
06:42to play some of these young outfielders on the corners.
06:45They have Angel Martinez, they have Cephas,
06:47they have, of course, DeLauder, who's in right field today.
06:50And these guys are better on the corner spots
06:53than in center field, so it's opened up center field for Quan.
06:56And for a guy who's won four gold gloves in left field,
06:59they thought he made the most sense
07:00to get a good amount of playing time in center this year.
07:03Well, you're being a humble leader,
07:05you know, to be able to, you know,
07:06take the onus, change an angle,
07:08move to a different position.
07:09It's not every day that guys want that many gold gloves
07:12and moves the position,
07:13but if it's going to help develop the other players,
07:15the younger players, not only defensively,
07:17but help him become offensively,
07:19and that's exactly what he wants to do.
07:21All he wants to do is win.
07:22One ball, two strikes on Cephas.
07:25George Kirby has retired four in a row.
07:27A couple of strikeouts since the home run by DeLauder.
07:36This is outside with that change of two balls and two strikes.
07:44With that lower arm angle,
07:46sometimes you can get on the side of the baseball
07:48when you want to throw a slider,
07:50and that's what came out right there on that pitch.
07:52Former first-round pick.
07:53Now 28-years-old George Kirby
07:55gets Cephas to bounce one foul.
07:57Interesting year for Kirby.
07:58There were some dominant performances,
08:00and then there were others
08:01where he just got beat up a little bit.
08:03Gave up seven runs in the game against the Mets,
08:06eight runs in the game against the Rays,
08:07and, you know, game three of the ALCS
08:10when the Mariners had a chance
08:11to really put a chokehold on that series,
08:13he allowed eight runs against the Blue Jays.
08:15Two and two.
08:16Inside-out swing and a roller to the left side.
08:19It's Rivas with the off-balance throw
08:20to retire Cephas.
08:23One, two, three inning for Kirby.
08:25We are standing on the north slope
08:27here at Mraz.
08:58That's a great surprise.
09:02And this is Mark Hart,
09:04and the other one player,
09:05and this is Rosie,
09:06and the other one player.
09:09Rosie,
09:09and the other one.
09:13And it's all being known for her,
09:15and her seven-time goal skills,
09:17and just a 12-hourly first-track,
09:19and it's not going to be clear.
09:22And it's 16-3 minutes this season,
09:24and Rosie,
09:24and the other one player,
09:26which right's third,
09:27and the international league.
09:29And with the children,
09:30the Louisiana State University,
09:32the number of 60 people,
09:34under the stretch line,
09:35the 23rd, 435.
09:39And you can look right now,
09:40on the real line of this ball,
09:42the mayor,
09:43and the 15th,
09:44and the draw,
09:45and the Louisiana State University,
09:46and the 16th,
09:47and the 13th,
09:48and the 16th,
09:48and the 14th,
09:48and the 14th,
09:50and the 14th,
09:51and the 14th,
09:52the 4th,
10:05and the 18th,
10:07and the 16th,
10:15and the 21th.
10:27Friday night baseball on Apple TV presented by Verilux lenses with Dontrell Willis and
10:32Heidi Watney I'm Wayne Randazzo we're here at T-Mobile Park in Seattle this is our aerial
10:37coverage brought to you by our Goodyear drone cam beautiful ballpark beautiful city always a good
10:44time at T-Mobile ballpark it's a great city to have the drone cam out and about some great
10:50shots along the water the buildings downtown and a Super Bowl champion over there in the
10:55Seattle Seahawks once again great running game that was a fun game to watch I guess they
11:04dominated that Super Bowl against the Patriots Randy Rosarena takes ball one is good Super
11:10Bowl to watch if you certainly had a rooting interest in the Seahawks and most of the country
11:14just hoping for a good game and the Seahawks put the foot on the neck as long as the Bears
11:18didn't win I'm sorry we did you know I missed you all due to Randy Rosarena now a funny way
11:27of showing it almost came to Seattle for that NFC Championship game and a good one
11:332-0 on a Rosarena a weird beef that unfolded during the World Baseball Classic I wasn't sure if they
11:41were even being serious or not between a Rosarena and Raleigh I'll see you in Seattle right now it's a
11:48war
11:48where they're super close and they squash that beef and you love it love to see the games and ship
11:54and Williams walks another hitter that's three of the first five that Gavin Williams has led on base
12:00with a base on ball so there's a rain another good base stealer too
12:04there's a board to lead off here in the second brings up Lou Grayley who cracked a home run last
12:09night
12:09career high twenty two home runs in two thousand twenty four for Seattle battled some injuries last year but
12:16he seems to be all smiles because he's finally healthy yeah had some oblique problems last year Raleigh and
12:23see if he can get in there a little bit more often this year
12:27dominant can zone hitting behind him another guy looking to get more at bats this season who
12:32had some good performances last year too so the Mariner is with a pretty good stack of left-handed
12:38hitters throughout their lineup
12:44Raleigh sends one out toward left center this one's hit pretty well
12:46Kephas is back on the track to make the catch
12:49a Rosarena has to run all the way back to first he had to retouch second base and he's just
12:54barely there in time as
12:56Bo Naylor backs up the throw coming in from the outfield excellent baseball on both sides I'd love the awareness
13:01by Randy
13:02Raleigh and Rosarena he thought that ball was gonna get down he was gonna try to score
13:07great angle
13:08Jump and angle he looked to see how much time he had
13:13Kephas fires and make sure you hit the cutoff man I hate when they overthrow the cutoff man
13:18Give your infielder a chance to get the guy out trying to retreat back to first but Kephas
13:23There's not a lot of outfields in baseball that can keep that ball in the ballpark great route
13:28certainly was a good catch by Kephas and now brings up the D.H. can zone
13:32who had a couple of home runs himself last night and the Baroners and Guardians both were knocking the ball
13:38out of the ballpark yesterday and it is usually a pitcher's ballpark especially early in the season
13:46knocking the cover off that ball to the Marine layer
13:49there's the big hitters who suffered for Seattle yesterday
13:57Rodriguez
13:57Rodriguez Raleigh and Naylor were combined 0 for 11 with six strikeouts the only hit
14:02from the middle of the barren order came from a Rosarena last night
14:07some of these peripheral hitters that were doing the damage yesterday including Kenzo
14:13one ball no strikes
14:162 and 0 Kenzo did hit 300 last year
14:19in about a half season's worth of games he hit 11 home runs
14:23I feel like maybe with more at bats you can even get more impact out of Kenzo
14:28one ninety six in two thousand twenty four and so
14:31big-time boost and also how do you match him up
14:34to continue that that confidence at the plate
14:36you see a three at the beginning of the batting average and that gets your attention in this day and
14:39age
14:40here's a pop-up as Rocchio the second baseman goes out
14:43and he has it in fair ground
14:46two down with a Rosarena stuck at first
14:51brings up Cole Young here's the damage Kenzo did last night
14:56able to get the foot down early
14:58and it doesn't take much for him to generate that type of power
15:02short swing through the baseball
15:05man that's a long way in any ballpark so you see that type of power man you've got to give
15:11him enough bats to continue to
15:12have strikes on awareness of knowing the pitches he needs to attack
15:15it's three eighty to right center here he hit it to the left of that mark so
15:19it was a long shot from can zone Cole Young looks at a strike by getting the full Gavin Williams
15:24experience here he's walked three hitters
15:27but he has not allowed to hit he's a tough guy to square up
15:31but Stephen vote said it he said that's what gets him in trouble a walk here walk here then something
15:37hard hit but if he eliminates the walks he's a tough guy to square up
15:40Williams in the throat at first keep in mind he had four pick offs last year so these pickoff attempts
15:45to first base might irritate the crowd but they are with intent as he tries to hold down the opposing
15:51base runners
15:51for a guy that's six six he's very athletic
15:55six six two fifty they call him the big rig
15:59Gavin Williams on a Fayetteville North Carolina
16:02to keep fear high school
16:06you see that movie Cape Fear that was a good movie actually
16:11that was a good movie
16:13but love his athleticism especially when you're a big guy like that you have to be consistent to be able
16:18to get downhill sometimes that fastball he's behind it
16:21I think that's why he's a radical strike though
16:25when fouled straight back by Cole Young we'll see if Young can have an uptick offensively for himself this year
16:33played in seventy seven major league games last year and hit only two eleven four home runs for Young we
16:40saw a very good defensive play by him in the top of the inning
16:45top of the first one ball two strikes some good moments in the minor leagues at two seventy seven at
16:51Tacoma last year
16:53see if the offense can come around for guys just twenty two years old a former first round pick
17:06Rosarena started then stopped it strike three called the young
17:10you know Williams has been with the base on balls but no Mariners have touched second base yet it's one
17:15nothing got prime would like to welcome you
17:17come around for now
17:46that
19:18Well the automated ball strike challenge system is here.
19:22You get two failed challenges per game.
19:24Keep them around if you're successful.
19:26Pitcher, catcher, batter can do it.
19:28They have to do it immediately.
19:29No other gestures are allowed.
19:31No help is permitted from the bench or from anybody else.
19:34So you're on your own and we haven't seen a ton of action when it comes to the ABS system.
19:41But I think it will be something that comes more and more into play as players kind of get used
19:45to it.
19:45I really think coaching staffs really took a hold on who they really trust, especially behind the plate.
19:53Guys that have a really good percentage of receiving strikes, framing.
20:27I mean, definitely take that out of the hands of the pitcher.
20:29I mean, it's going to be the middle for the Guardians.
20:30Especially Arias because you love the defensive metrics, especially his arm strength.
20:36One of the better shortstops in the league.
20:38It's pushed for Oki on the second base as Arias strikes out here.
20:41The Guardians are going to play a lot of close games, so they need those good defenders, too.
20:45They can't give up too much defense for offense.
20:49Good pitching staff primarily year to year.
20:52As Arias goes down on strikes here.
20:53Kirby has his third strikeout.
20:55But Cleveland played 83 games last year that were decided by two runs or fewer.
21:00And they won a lot of those games.
21:02They won 50 of them.
21:03That seems to be the life of the last two seasons, trusting that bullpen.
21:07And being able to make the right moves, have enough depth, timely hitting, stellar defense all over the diamond.
21:17And here's Brian Rocchio playing second base.
21:20Rocchio, born in Venezuela.
21:21They were the winners of the World Baseball Classic, but he played for Team Italy as Italian grandparents.
21:27Italy and Venezuela squared off in the semifinal with the Venezuelans coming back late to knock the Italians out of
21:34the tournament.
21:34I know you were proud.
21:35I know you were proud.
21:39Francisco Cerville and Team Italy.
21:40It was incredible.
21:41Beat Team USA.
21:43First round.
21:45How come you wouldn't split that espresso machine with me in the auction?
21:48They got $16,000 for that espresso machine.
21:50You know what?
21:51I'm way longer than Apple.
21:52I'll do that next year.
21:53I'll do that for you, Cat Daddy.
21:54As long as you play nice, I'll do that for you.
22:01We got, we have, we're back to just regular old Gatorade now.
22:04Watered down Gatorade too.
22:07Here's a line drive right center field.
22:09Rodriguez a good jump coming in and makes the running catch.
22:13The wrong guy to hit that ball.
22:14Regardless if he's hitting the ball or not, his jump off the bat, his range, one of the best in
22:20all of baseball.
22:21Love his, I love his athleticism.
22:24Two outs here in the third as Rodriguez comes in to grab this one.
22:35Steven Kwan grounded to third base his first time up.
22:39Let's go down to Heidi.
22:41Well, Cleveland fans are screaming for Travis Bazzana as you guys are talking middle infield.
22:46He's the second baseman of the future for Cleveland.
22:48He had a pretty good spring and a decent shot to make the team.
22:51But Steven Vogt told me with his oblique injury sidelining him a lot last year, he needs more playing time.
22:56But that he's going to be a huge impact player for this organization.
22:59I spoke with a member of the front office as well.
23:01He said Bazzana could get the call pretty soon, guys.
23:04We'll wait and see when that comes for him.
23:07Certainly it will be sooner than later, you'd figure.
23:09Two balls, no strikes on Kwan.
23:12He looks at a strike over the outer half.
23:14George Kirby's retired seven straight.
23:16The only base runner for the Guardians was De Lauder when he ran around the bases.
23:21Following his third home run in the first two games of this season.
23:28It's inside the Kwan three balls, one strike.
23:45There it is.
23:47Just under our booth here.
23:50I'm telling you.
23:51For so many inches.
23:54You called it earlier once you figured out where our booth was going to be.
23:58I'll never bet against you, young man.
24:01I'm staying alert.
24:03We'll count here on Kwan, who grounded out to third baseman Donovan his first time.
24:09Going that way again, trying to keep this one fair, and he does.
24:12Base hit for Kwan.
24:13So a two-out single falls in.
24:16We'll keep this inning alive for De Lauder, who cracked his third home run of this young season in the
24:23first inning tonight.
24:24Talked about it after the first home run in the first inning.
24:27His power is short to the baseball.
24:29What I mean by that, he doesn't even have to finish his swing.
24:32He's just back to ball.
24:34And I love that he barrels it, and I love that he's showing the swag already.
24:37He knows his impact, and he has to be a weapon, especially in front of Ramirez.
24:42Well, you'll start to hear it if De Lauder keeps hitting home runs like this.
24:47Because it has been a long time since a Cleveland outfielder hit 30 home runs in a season.
24:52You have to go all the way back to Grady Sizemore.
24:54Wow, that ball flies in Cleveland to right very well.
25:02One ball, no strikes on De Lauder here.
25:08He was the first player to go deep twice in his first regular season game in the Major League since
25:15Trevor Story did it in 2016.
25:18Only a few Cleveland batters have ever done it in their first Major League at bat the way De Lauder
25:23did yesterday.
25:25Oh, tight is that right there.
25:27See that shortness on the swing?
25:29Yeah, yeah.
25:29On that despite barely swinging him.
25:31Well, he's athletic.
25:32And I think already in his young career, he has a really good sense of the strike zone and pitches
25:37that he handles.
25:38Now, Kirby got on the side of that, and that ball had a cutting action and tied him up.
25:42And I think he's going to see more pitches where he can't get extended.
25:45Also, pitches down in the way to see if he can offer at it.
25:48One and two.
25:49He takes strike three calls, so Kirby mows him down this time.
25:52Four strikeouts for George Kirby.
25:54It's still 1-0 Cleveland.
25:57Good morning, everybody.
26:17It's all right.
28:18The new U.S. home of Formula One.
28:20We're going to that one in Vegas.
28:21We get our finest suits.
28:23We in the building.
28:24We're always going to get us some time.
28:25Best believe that.
28:27New phones too.
28:28Oh wow.
28:30You know Rivas leads off here in the third inning as he takes ball one.
28:34Rivas the starting shortstop with J.P. Crawford on the shelf to start the year.
28:38Shoulder problem for Crawford who had very little spring training action.
28:45Crawford such a leader for this Seattle ball club both on the field but emotionally as well.
28:51A thousand percent.
28:53But the captain tone center defensively what he can do.
28:58He can go big fly first pitch with the best of them.
29:01And so they all rave about his energy.
29:04When he's healthy.
29:05That's a totally different line of not only at the plate but defensively as well.
29:10It's two balls and one strike on Rivas.
29:13Three walks issued by Gavin Williams with no hits allowed.
29:16He's on his way to a fourth walk which would be one in each of the first three innings to
29:21start the inning.
29:23Brendan Donovan walked to begin the first then a Rosarena in the second.
29:27Now it's three balls and one strike on Rivas.
29:30As Williams delivers a high strike.
29:33Rivas didn't like it but didn't tap his helmet either.
29:39Hitters can shrug their shoulders.
29:41Stomp their feet.
29:42They can do whatever they want to do in there.
29:44But if they don't tap their helmet it's all irrelevant.
29:47He kind of wanted to.
29:48But he understood his role at the bottom of the lineup.
29:50I'm not going to.
29:52But you know a lead off walk here is a big deal.
29:54You get on in front of Donovan and Raleigh and Rodriguez.
29:57So we'll see.
29:59But three balls two strikes the count now and Rivas.
30:03Foul behind home plate.
30:04Yeah but you don't want to lose their privilege for the season early in the season.
30:08If you're wrong.
30:09Especially this feels like a tightly contested ball game once again.
30:13Two pitchers battling it out.
30:17You get that walk.
30:18The conventional way of rolling the lineup.
30:21Full count pitch coming.
30:23And Rivas turns on one.
30:24Hits it deep to right.
30:25Over fourth to water on the warning track.
30:27Makes it.
30:28Juggles he falls in.
30:30As De Lauder could not hang on.
30:32Now Rivas heads for third.
30:33Here comes the throw.
30:35It's too late.
30:37But De Lauder had that for about two-thirds of the way down.
30:41And he just couldn't hang on to it.
30:43It fell out of his glove along the warning track.
30:45And it turned into three bases.
30:47A triple for Rivas.
30:48When De Lauder was hustling over to his left.
30:53Tried the basket catch.
30:54And it popped out as he had his momentum.
30:58One tap.
30:59Another tap.
31:00And all of a sudden hits the wall.
31:01And Rivas is off to the races.
31:03He sees that ball down.
31:06Gives it another glance once it's down.
31:10Turns on the burners.
31:12And here's a pot fly by Brendan Donovan.
31:16Arias the shortstop backs up to call for it and make the catch.
31:19That will not get Rivas off of third.
31:22So leadoff triple.
31:24Now a man on third with one out.
31:25After the pop-up by Donovan brings up Calarone.
31:33So much talk around this Mariner team when it comes to the expectations of what's ahead.
31:38They are favored to win the American League West.
31:41It's their favored to win the American League outright.
31:43And it takes a whole seven-month journey to get there.
31:48And Cal Raleigh, well, you can't have higher expectations than what kind of season he put together in 2025.
31:55Hitting those 60 home runs.
31:57Infield in for Cleveland.
31:58Ball one.
31:59But what does the weight of those expectations do to a guy like Raleigh or to a team like the
32:04Mariners?
32:05Well, you have to have a good locker room to keep everyone grounded.
32:09And let's say one day at a time.
32:11Yes, they want to get back to that American League championship.
32:14And you think about all the things that went right, all the things that went wrong.
32:18Well, this is a very long season.
32:19A very tough grind.
32:20Excellent pitch by Williams.
32:22Understanding the situation.
32:23Raleigh wanted to get something elevated.
32:25But we talked about it with Dan Wilson.
32:27I thought he had a good perspective of it.
32:29He says, I lean on my coaching staff.
32:31I trust these guys.
32:32We like the ads that we have on.
32:35We just go out there and play baseball.
32:37Easier said than done when you have a team across you that grinds you down.
32:41So, this is a good early test for this locker room.
32:43Ball.
32:44Two balls and one strike on Raleigh.
32:46It's worth asking because Raleigh didn't hit very much in the WBC.
32:50So far, five plate appearances this season.
32:52He has struck out four times.
32:54And that's obviously extremely early.
32:56The season just started.
32:57But, you know, you start to think about some of those things overlapping in a period of time.
33:02As Raleigh chases a high fastball and it's 2-2 because now the weight of the world is on these
33:09guys.
33:09Absolutely.
33:10And you talk about some of the guys that have struggled coming out of the WBC and not getting that
33:14full scale of the spring training.
33:16So, you're definitely not going to watch this Kyle Raleigh.
33:18But a bunch of guys across the league.
33:20How's Logan Webb going to come back?
33:22How some of these guys that really did get a full scale of that spring training is very important.
33:28So, situational hitting.
33:30In a big spot right now for one of the best hitters in all of baseball.
33:33It's 2-2.
33:34And Raleigh, it's a tap or foul pass first.
33:37Gavin Williams was the best in the American League last year with runners in scoring position.
33:42Opponents only hit 158 against him.
33:45So, Williams really does buck up in these moments.
33:54It's the lowest ever by a Cleveland pitcher as far back as the data goes since to 1974.
34:002-2.
34:01Chopper foul again.
34:02This one handled by Eric Young Jr., the first base coach of the Mariners.
34:08That's my guy.
34:10Senior hit a home runoff beat.
34:12I haven't stopped hearing about it since.
34:15His dad was a pretty good player, Eric Young Sr.
34:18Raleigh struck out his first time.
34:20Two balls, two strikes.
34:23Swing and a miss.
34:24Strike three.
34:2699 on the fastball upstairs and Raleigh punches out again.
34:29Talked about Williams and the ability to change eye level.
34:33When you look at that sequence, he threw a couple breaking balls down.
34:36Raleigh offers that.
34:37And all of a sudden, he throws that fastball, it plays up even higher than 99.
34:42It looks so enticing, especially right at the eye level.
34:45Raleigh thinks he can get on top of that baseball and beats him.
34:49So, now two outs.
34:50Rivas still at third.
34:51And here's Julio Rodriguez, who walked his first time.
34:54He takes ball one.
34:56Williams again with his back against the wall,
34:58trying to shut down the opponent much like he did throughout last season.
35:05Heal Rivas with a triple in and out of the glove of Chase to Lauder in the right field corner.
35:10Since then, a pop-up and a strikeout.
35:13That's Rodriguez weaving at that breaking ball.
35:16We talked about Kyle.
35:17We also have to worry about Rodriguez.
35:19He's typically a slow start in the first half of the season.
35:22And he also played at the WBC.
35:25Really didn't hit that much.
35:27Another guy that really didn't get enough spring training at bats.
35:31How can he factor in another breaking ball gets a whiff from Julio Rodriguez.
35:37So, it's one ball, two strikes, and Williams has him set up here.
35:44Now, you have options when you're ahead of the strike zone.
35:47You can double up with the breaking ball down or another fastball elevated.
35:52Here, Rodriguez, you're just trying to spoil a pitch, and hopefully he makes a mistake.
35:56Something he can drive.
35:57One ball, two strikes.
36:00Oh, Rodriguez got one in the zone there, but it was a little late to recognize it.
36:06Yeah, I'll usually cut three when I throw those pitches.
36:10At least.
36:11That's a slider that Bo Baylor wants down, and now it's a cement mixer middle.
36:17Two whiffs on that pitch.
36:19Didn't quite get the third one down far enough.
36:21One and two.
36:22Swing and a foul.
36:23Temp strike three.
36:25So, Gavin Williams pitches around the leadoff triple.
36:28Squanders a scoring chance for Seattle in the third.
36:31With hotels and vacations.
36:33Skulls and vacations .
36:34Mm-hmm.
36:36Yeah.
38:36It's time for a Sage Manager interview here with Dan Wilson.
38:38George Kirby.
38:39He's pitched pretty well.
38:40Gave up a home run.
38:41Chase DeLauder.
38:42How do you guys get him out?
38:43I'll tell you what.
38:44He's been swinging the bat very well here in this first part of the series.
38:46And I thought George handled him very well the last time, you know, making sure he doesn't
38:50get his arms extended, keeping the ball inside.
38:52But he's been a tough customer.
38:54Cal Raleigh had a season for the ages last year.
38:57How do you keep him from putting too much pressure on himself this year?
39:00I mean, Cal is, he's a winner all around and he's all about winning and wants his team to win
39:05and he's going to be just fine.
39:08You know, he's, he does such a great job for us back behind the plate, contributes running
39:13this pitching staff.
39:15And, you know, he does so much for us.
39:17And I know he's going to have a great year again.
39:19Thanks, Dan.
39:20Cal Raleigh was the MVP runner-up in a very tight MVP vote at the end of last year with
39:26Aaron Judge.
39:29Two balls and no strikes on Jose Ramirez who grounded out.
39:33Up to the strike here.
39:34It's two and one.
39:35Ramirez was third in that MVP race.
39:37When Judge and Raleigh got all the first place votes, there was plenty of room at the
39:42top of the ballot for Jose Ramirez after another incredibly impressive season.
39:47It's this ball sharply and it's Cole Young again.
39:50Young didn't have to die for this one, but two well-struck balls to the right side of
39:55the infield have landed in Young's glove.
39:57You're going to trust that defense.
39:59Young, they're athletic.
40:04Ground balls are such, I mean, you're falling behind a tough hitter.
40:08You know you have to challenge him and you would be able to beat that guy and get him on
40:11the ground.
40:12You've got to get that out.
40:13So, he keeps the defense on their toes.
40:15If you get some early outs and get the offense back in, more times than not, you guys are
40:19going to win that ball game.
40:20Kyle Manzardo here goes fishing for strike one.
40:23Ramirez now has had six top five MVP finishes in his career.
40:28He's a star.
40:30I mean, everything he does, his legs, his power, tightly hits, and he wants to stay and cleave.
40:37And he certainly will.
40:39He has signed through 20-32.
40:40But, you know, sometimes you get robbed of one of those hits.
40:44And here's Cole Young doing that to Ramirez in the first inning.
40:47Yeah, got to buy him some keen crab after the game for that type of play.
40:51You know, pitchers buy a lot of dinners, man.
40:53And I love what Naylor's staying on that nice little pick.
40:57One ball, two strikes on Manzardo.
41:01Manzardo's from Idaho.
41:03You don't get a whole lot of baseball talent coming out of the state of Idaho.
41:06But, here is the 25-year-old Manzardo.
41:11Had a chance to play it.
41:13The Boise Hawks loved it.
41:15No, no, no, no, no, no.
41:16That was a foul ball.
41:17Good job by Will Little, the home plate umpire, expressing that quickly.
41:21And that the ball was touched off the bat and then hit the ground.
41:29Excellent call.
41:30He's been on top of it with the strike zone as well as this play right here.
41:33He's doing it so loudly and expressively.
41:35Everybody in the crowd can understand it.
41:37One ball, two strikes.
41:39And it's hard to fouls for you behind home plate.
41:43Well, that tells me from an umpire standpoint that you're in control of the game.
41:47You have conviction of what you're seeing.
41:49So, you haven't seen too many of the catchers turn back and say,
41:54Are you sure?
41:55Get that little head nod.
41:57It's a really good flow of the game.
41:59Lance Barksdale, the crew chief over at third base.
42:02Two balls and two strikes now on Manzardo.
42:07Manzardo got his first big league taste a couple of years ago
42:10and had a good final month of the season
42:13and then provided some thump in the postseason as well that year for the Guardians.
42:19Swings and this was a foul tip at Saturday night for strike three.
42:23Either way, five strikeouts now for George Kirby.
42:26Yeah, Kirby seemed really in sync with the mechanics.
42:29Like how the ball's coming out of his hands.
42:31Not only with the fastball, but now
42:33the secondary stuff is starting to land.
42:36Very enticing pitch, but change speeds like that
42:40and have that depth changed down.
42:41Too much to cover.
42:42Kirby is the all-time major league leader in strikeout-to-walk ratio.
42:46Has nearly seven strikeouts for every walk.
42:50He has five strikeouts with no bases on balls today.
42:53Jacob deGrom is second on that list all time
42:56with five point three seven strikeouts for every walk.
43:00Kirby almost seven strikeouts way ahead of the pack
43:03on the all-time list in terms of strikeout-to-walk ratio.
43:09There's a chopper hit softly by Bo Naylor.
43:12This will be another quick inning for George Kirby.
43:43This will be another quick inning for George Kirby.
44:09Here we go.
44:14This is a good morning to give up in a comma,
44:16and as well as being known for a 7 at the full schools,
44:19with just a 12.3-string number,
44:21and it's not going to be clear.
44:24Team CFC 390s this season,
44:26losing my team's in 347,
44:29which runs 3rd, and being carried out as well.
44:32And with the two of them,
44:33it's not going to be 16 years,
44:36with a selection on 233, 400, and 435.
44:41You can get a little break now,
44:43and a real line is this one.
44:45This is Mr. Mayor and Miki Hennig,
44:47who is the I to the second 8-sexy in the third round.
44:51This is a good one!
44:53I'm a kid.
44:54I'm a kid.
44:55I'm a kid.
44:55I'm a kid.
44:56I'm a kid.
44:56I'm a kid.
44:57You need to get a little bit.
45:04You need to get a little bit.
45:05Thank you, Tom.
45:06Thank you, Tom.
45:23We have another stage manager interview here with Stephen.
45:25We're going to start with Gavin Williams.
45:27He gave up just that one hit that was kind of a fluky hit there.
45:30But a couple of walks.
45:31What are you seeing from him?
45:32Yeah, I mean, Gavin's stuff is really good tonight.
45:34A little bit of hit and miss with the command at times.
45:36But, you know, he dialed it in there and got himself out of that jam.
45:39That's what he can do.
45:40He can miss bats.
45:41Chase DeLauter, three home runs, two games.
45:44What makes him so good?
45:45He's balanced at the plate.
45:47And, you know, he's aggressive.
45:48You know he can hit any pitch at any time and he's ready for it.
45:51But it's been a fun start for Chase.
45:53And hopefully we get some other offense going as well.
45:55Thanks, Stephen.
45:57It's been a fun start for Stephen Vogt.
45:59Here's a check swing from Josh Naylor.
46:01It's his brother, Bo, grabbing it and throwing him out.
46:04That's just what you dream of in the backyards of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
46:08Yeah, you're going to get a text for that.
46:10Get jammed.
46:11Jammed, oh, jammed.
46:13That's what you're going to text him.
46:15Excellent fastball cutting action by Williams.
46:18He knew Josh was going to be very aggressive.
46:21He's been like that his whole career.
46:22You see that cut action at the end.
46:28He's definitely going to text.
46:30He's got to get that foot down a little bit early, a big man.
46:37And one out here's a Rosarena who walked his first time.
46:40Amen.
