00:00do when they're out there
00:00playing Clayton did you ever
00:03take part in the javelin the
00:04yoga.
00:06So I tried a couple of things
00:08it hurt a lot for me and then
00:11throwing the javelin he makes it
00:13look so easy and I I didn't
00:14spend a ton of time trying to
00:15figure it out but I did try it
00:17is that might be a homer that
00:20ball is crushed to right field
00:22and out of here to run home run
00:28on Geraldo Perdomo and the
00:30Diamondbacks have the first
00:33lead at two to nothing.
00:38They continue to swing and
00:39swing aggressively they're
00:41swinging it over 50 percent of
00:42Yamamoto's pitches the Dodgers are
00:44below 50 percent a lot more
00:45patient that Diamondbacks
00:48barreling the ball up right
00:50there.
00:51Well he got a foreseen fastball up
00:54in the strike zone and that's
00:55what the Diamondbacks had talked
00:56about trying to do it easier
00:58said than done sometimes but he
01:00got a pitch up in the zone where
01:03Perdomo has quietly the last few
01:05years become a superstar player
01:06for the Diamondbacks.
01:0920 homers last year 94 walks to
01:1383 strikeouts he hits every
01:16category including 27 stolen
01:20bases as he gets a big hug in
01:22his dugout Yamamoto ahead two
01:27strikes on Moreno or Moreno's a
01:30guy that you need to get back
01:32into the form he had when the
01:33Diamondbacks went to the World
01:34Series in twenty three.
01:36He just hasn't been able to to
01:38find that good offensive form
01:39that he had before you know he
01:41could throw runners out there
01:42behind the plate but he's got to
01:44be a big force for the D-backs
01:51offensively there's the splitter
01:53one ball and two strikes on
01:54Moreno Yankees won their opening
01:57day start and that's five in a
01:59row currently for them the
02:00Dodgers have won four in a row
02:02currently and are trying to
02:04catch those Yankees but now down
02:05to nothing.
02:09It'll be interesting as this game
02:11progresses and we will certainly
02:13see both bullpens the Diamond
02:16Backs don't have a left handed
02:17pitcher in their bullpen the
02:19Dodgers went and signed Edwin
02:21Diaz one of the state of the
02:23art closers in the game that
02:25Mets fans know very well there's
02:29a swing and a miss strike three
02:31on the slider one away but back
02:33to the Perdomo home run Louise
02:35on two strikes you see the
02:37location right there he just
02:38missed it up in the strike zone
02:40good power spot for Perdomo I
02:43think he knew he got it when he
02:45hit it fastballs what the
02:49Diamondbacks have picked on so
02:51far with Yamamoto stoic
02:57responses there's a fastball for
02:58a strike to Arenado Arizona last
03:05year this was an offense that
03:08tormented people to build big
03:11leads in games sometimes the
03:13least you saw it there you look
03:14at the scoreboard it's like 11
03:15to 10 in a Diamondbacks game
03:17last year they were eighth and
03:18home runs third and slugging so
03:21it's a strong offense yeah
03:23they're they're gonna slug they
03:24know that they know they can hit
03:26the problem was the bullpen was
03:28worn out by the middle part of
03:29the season and we had to use a
03:31lot of arms to go out there and
03:32try to patch up games when you
03:34don't have your starters going
03:35deeper in the game where you
03:36have those injuries it makes it
03:38pretty hard to to contend in the
03:40last two years they've missed the
03:42playoffs by a few games two
03:51strikes on Arenado Tory Lavello
03:53was reminiscing and not a
03:56positive way about two years ago
03:58with that doubleheader split with
03:59the Mets and Braves in 2024 that
04:02kept them out of the postseason
04:04and the way he was talking that
04:06is motivation certainly for him
04:08as Arenado swings through the
04:10splitter courage you were talking
04:12about the splitter we saw the
04:14curveball last inning what makes
04:16this splitter so good it's so
04:18hard he throws it so hard I mean
04:19it's 90 91 92 and look at the
04:22depth on this pitch I mean it's
04:23just the bottom falls out right
04:25at the last second so you know
04:27the goal in your pitching is to
04:28throw something as hard as you
04:28can and make it move as much as
04:30you can and so he's he's really
04:31dominating both of those factors
04:33and that was impressive another
04:35first pitch out right there
04:36keeping this pitch count down
04:37it's good fly ball to center and
04:41pie has puts it away on the
04:42Santana fly out but Geraldo
04:46Perdomo one of the breakout stars
04:47for the Diamondbacks gives
04:49Arizona a two nothing lead.
05:00is
05:08nice
05:09yes
05:25we
08:30I'll carry out a sensei.
08:30I'll carry out a sensei.
08:31I'll carry out a sensei.
08:45It takes a lot of patience.
08:46It's a lot of stability a lot of
08:48breathing a lot of core strength
08:49and a lot of small movements a
08:52lot of stability and not a lot
08:54of weights and it works and it's
08:56working for Yama and I have a
08:58hunch that you know Yama stays
08:59healthy and keeps doing what he's
09:01doing for another two three years.
09:02There's going to be a lot of
09:03people rethinking what it takes
09:05to stay healthy in this game
09:06because you know obviously Yama's
09:07not a big guy and you look at
09:09Gallen out there he's not a big
09:10guy and these guys are pitching
09:11hundred and eighty hundred and
09:12ninety innings and Zach made
09:13thirty three starts last year so
09:15maybe there's something to it.
09:17Who knows.
09:18Which teammate for all of you
09:20anybody who wants to jump in as
09:22it's one and two on Freddie
09:24Freeman and Freddie gives us a
09:27ride to left field Lawler is
09:29back which teammate would you
09:31have been most likely to carry
09:32you.
09:34You think about that.
09:35I'm going to read this promo
09:35MLB together is baseball's
09:37platform embodying the sports
09:39commitment to philanthropic
09:40causes and mental wellness
09:42efforts by teams players in the
09:44league to learn more and scan
09:45the QR code or visit MLB
09:46together dot com.
09:49Which teammate would you have
09:50been most likely to carry
09:52around for core strength.
09:53Well I'm not going to pick
09:55social Mike social.
09:58Sorry social.
10:00I'll tell you I'll tell you
10:01what after game seven I would
10:03have carried Yama anywhere he
10:04wanted to go anywhere.
10:06No kidding.
10:07That's true.
10:10I mean you got to turn back the
10:11clock and our audience has got
10:12to be over 50 years old to know
10:14the players I'm going to say
10:15come on go for it.
10:16I'd take Steve Sachs.
10:18Okay.
10:19He Sachs would have some
10:20balancing and he'd be strong
10:21enough to grasp my neck and not
10:24lose balance.
10:26I would say a guy like Reggie
10:28Sanders this guy was physically
10:29fit all the time and he always
10:32ate well and was always well
10:33prepared out there.
10:36Reggie Sanders kind of a big
10:37dude though.
10:38I mean I felt like my legs I can
10:40hold him up a little bit maybe
10:41Craig Council or somebody like
10:43that.
10:44Hope counts enjoyed opening day
10:46now he's getting talked about
10:47strong as I was it would have
10:48been a fat boy.
10:51Two and two on Will Smith.
10:53How about Zach Gallin he's
10:55carving tonight just the one hit
10:57so far and he's two outs through
11:00the fourth inning here at Dodger
11:02Stadium.
11:04That ball toward right center
11:05field but playable for Alec
11:07Thomas another efficient inning
11:09for Gallin we are through four.
11:39two feet.
11:41One, two, three.
11:55Thank you, everybody.
11:56Yoo is there a five, there a
11:57three, a five.
11:57Three, two.
11:58Two, three, three.
11:59Three, two.
11:59One, four, three, two.
12:01Four from a man.
13:27Dodgers trying to join a very exclusive club in Major League Baseball the Yankees from 36 to 39 and 49
13:35to 53 and a couple of those against the Brooklyn Dodgers in that streak for the Yankees then the athletics
13:40the Yankees again.
13:41It would be the fifth three feet in Major League Baseball history and they just unveiled that 2025 banner here
13:50tonight.
13:51But to nothing Arizona the lead on the Geraldo Perdomo to run a homer in the fourth.
13:59Jordan Lawler first Alec Thomas Tim Tower for Arizona.
14:10So you want to start him out with two breaking balls the four seamers what's gotten hit and getting close
14:15to the 80 85 pitch mark which would probably take him out of the game.
14:18You're probably not going to see many fastballs near the middle of the plate anymore.
14:26Flesh that out for us why for the uninitiated.
14:28Well just because that's the pitch that's kind of in the back of your mind that they are on.
14:32They're very very aggressive and you're hoping you can make stuff look like it's in the middle of the plate
14:37and then break it to the corner or off the plate.
14:42And I think that was their game plan coming in here just to try to see pitches up in the
14:46zone if they got that fastball.
14:48Sometimes you'll throw that one out of the strike zone to get you to chase.
14:51But you've got to keep it in the zone you've got a good chance at it.
14:54You've got to keep it in the zone.
14:58Three one went to the curve ball again.
15:00Clayton isn't that the time.
15:01And you know it's not all about the numbers.
15:04It's what's going on in the game in the moment.
15:06Yeah.
15:07Will does a really good job with that too.
15:08You know obviously they have a lot of preparation and game planning and they've faced these guys a lot.
15:13So they know a lot of strength and weaknesses.
15:14But.
15:14You know you go out there all and I mean you know this it's just sometimes you have better pitches
15:19than other ones.
15:19That's just life.
15:20And that's why baseball is so fun is it's not played on paper.
15:22So you get out there you have to mix and match and that's what Yama's doing right now.
15:27A lot more cutter slider like right there is another slider.
15:31And that's from shortstop has out number one.
15:34One of the biggest film events of the year will hit theaters next month as Mario and his friends travel
15:39across entire galaxies to stop Bowser Jr.
15:43From destroying the universe as we know it.
15:46It's the Super Mario Galaxy movie only in theaters April 1st.
15:51Huge stakes as I read that the entire world is on the line.
15:57That's very important.
15:59And this bobblehead is coming this Yoshi bobblehead in just five days here at Dodger Stadium.
16:05I'll be here you'll be on to your next job but I will definitely be here with the Dodger broadcast.
16:11Then I think it's yours to keep right Louise.
16:12We just.
16:13Grant that text me your address and I'll try and he'll have that he'll have that on the dash of
16:17his car driving around.
16:19Oh my goodness.
16:20Yeah.
16:22It looks like I hit the windshield with that nose.
16:30Alec Thomas goes after that 2 0 pitch and flies it into left center field but playable at the track
16:36for Pajos.
16:37Who runs it down as well as anybody in two gone.
16:40The same range he showed in the World Series but.
16:43T.K. Hernandez not the left fielder to Oscar Hernandez over there letting him call him off.
16:48He did he covered a lot of ground there.
16:51You can let Hernandez play in out there in left field.
16:55As you know your center fielder can cover that.
16:58You write on your score scorecard.
17:00An eight meaning the fly ball to center but he's almost in left field.
17:05Eight dash seven.
17:09Two down.
17:10Tim Tower takes a ball by the way if you're just joining us Pavin Smith was initially in the lineup
17:14for Arizona.
17:15Left elbow soreness.
17:17He was a late scratch and so tower.
17:19Comes in the nine spot.
17:23He had an infield single in the third.
17:27Right.
17:38And as we get later into this game Torrey's going to have to have some decisions to be made with
17:43no left handers out of that bullpen.
17:50Last year was just a tough draw.
17:52You see a good pitch right here.
17:56Splits really working.
18:00One two splitter then fastball and that's all for the Diamondbacks in the fifth halfway home to nothing Arizona.
18:14There it is so much time the Diamondbacks in the third half.
18:17And there it is in the fifth half of the ball связers and there it is in the fifth half
18:27of the game,
18:29how to do it again and that's the same thing for the night and that the eighth half of the
18:32game.
21:02And now you're going to have to
21:02go to the NFL Raleigh and the
21:04Mariners.
21:05It's a battle of American League
21:06heavyweights on Sunday Night
21:08Baseball live on Peacock and on
21:10NBC S.
21:12and Zach Brown band did a
21:15marvelous job with that song by
21:17the way Zach big baseball fan
21:19man baseball fans we got an
21:21umpire involved as well can't
21:23wait for you to see the whole
21:24thing coming up on April the
21:3012th it was not Andy Fletcher by
21:32the way if you're guessing the
21:33umpire who was the crew chief of
21:35that crew back behind the plate
21:36Andy Fletcher we'll find out who
21:39it was in April the 12th and get
21:41them an IMDb page two and two on
21:45Max Muncie it's Muncie then
21:49Hernandez and Pa has and Max
21:53Muncie blasts off on this ball
21:55deep down the right field side
21:56and so the Shohei Otani single
22:05came on Zach Gallin's fifth pitch
22:07of the game since then one base
22:10runner for the Dodgers Muncie to
22:17right past Patel Marte good to see
22:25that the broadcaster Jinx is
22:26alive and well don't start my
22:30social media is going to be a
22:31successful anyway were you like
22:37that during no hitters like where
22:38you don't talk to me guy sounds
22:40like it doesn't it it really does
22:42the guy who has a no hitter in the
22:43big leagues is down there next to
22:45the Dodger dugout we should ask
22:46him Kurtz are you up on this
22:47jinx stuff no I'm not a jinx guy
22:49good people did stay away from me
22:51but I think it was just my bubbly
22:53demeanor that kept him away here's a
22:55tapper it's gallon top backhand he'll
22:58snap it on to first and say I think
23:01he's out but that was an amazing
23:02play I think they're going to
23:03challenge that it looked real time
23:05like it was going to be an out
23:07over at first base and we'll see
23:09tails fast he really is when he
23:10gets going foot might be above the
23:12bag which made a fool the umpire
23:15and I was wrong no challenge that's
23:18that's a great play you guys you
23:20guys you guys as pitchers know
23:22better than anybody that ball
23:23usually nine times out of ten it's
23:25going down that right field line
23:26in it yeah not for you two guys I'm
23:29saying but those pitchers right
23:31Kirsch was one of the best
23:33especially on the ball to that
23:34side of the field because as a
23:35lefty that kind of takes you where
23:37you want to go and so he had a lot
23:39of spin moves to his knees that he
23:41would make the throw that was an
23:42basic play by gallon right there
23:44a really good play now I've got a
23:46potential beginning here with the
23:47Dodgers a big at bat right here
23:49first pitch the slider and a
23:51strike from Zach Allen after a
23:54strikeout of the Dodgers center
23:55fielder in the second one that's
23:58what makes this Dodger team so so
24:00difficult to play against I mean
24:01look this is the bottom of the
24:02order here starting to rally
24:04around here downstairs FanDuel
24:09is the home of home runs this
24:10season live look at FanDuel's
24:12home run odds for today's game
24:14game you were saying well I just
24:17wanted to ask Clayton if he would
24:18be the teammate that would tell
24:20Andy to get him in the strike
24:21zone after chasing so many
24:22pitches in the first at bat now
24:23this one a key one yeah and you
24:26don't want to take his
24:26aggressiveness away from him right
24:28here and you know you said this
24:30before this is this is big for
24:32Pajas you know I think if he
24:33keeps guys in the strike zone
24:34he's going to have a great year
24:36have a good on base percentage
24:37he's obviously already really
24:39good at left hit lefties he
24:41plays really good center field
24:42if he can keep right handed
24:44sliders if he can keep from
24:45chasing the ball going away from
24:47him he's going to have a big
24:48year and I expect down to throw
24:49some slider cutters down and
24:51away right here with two
24:52strikes get him to chase two on
24:56nobody out one and two that's
24:59fouled away is that a set up
25:02fastball Clayton well it's just
25:04another pitch out of the zone you
25:05know I was a really good pitch
25:07Zach's fastball tonight ninety
25:09four ninety five he's feeling
25:10good with it so if he can go
25:12above the zone I just don't
25:13expect many pitches in the
25:14strike zone right here yeah
25:16that was one thing with him in
25:17spring training his fastball
25:18velocity was up 1 2 again in
25:27the air left field way back and
25:30the Dodgers take the lead
25:49play and you saw it on the
25:50monitor you saw it was a breaking
25:51pitch he's trying to get him a
25:52chase but he left it on the
25:53inner half yeah was that I think
25:55it was a curveball instead of
25:57the slider he's trying to go more
25:58up and down and like yeah you
26:00like you say just left it on the
26:01inner half and pop with that in
26:03the seats that's a big swing for
26:05the Dodgers right there you think
26:10about what Andy Pa has went
26:13through in the postseason and
26:16then this swing on opening day
26:18where that knuckle curve just
26:20stayed on that inner half put a
26:22nice swing on it stayed inside
26:23of it was able to get under it
26:26and shoot it off the left
26:27center field a lot of this
26:30baseball game is strategy but
26:32then it comes down to execution of
26:34the strategy Jason Bateman is
26:39thrilled we saw Sandy Koufax
26:42earlier here at Dodger Stadium I
26:45mean Andy Pye has was four for
26:48fifty one in the postseason and
26:52now he has brought this stadium to
26:55its feet on opening day Yamamoto
27:00was happy that's different than
27:02last year he only got three and a
27:03half runs a game was the third
27:05worst run support believe it or
27:07not from this Dodger offense of
27:09all the qualifiers I mean
27:16Clayton you kind of expect it
27:19from this team at home over the
27:21past couple years right like you
27:23get the feeling just watching
27:24from a distance that no lead is
27:25safe is that how you guys felt
27:27there's always a calm you know
27:29there's no panic over there in
27:30the dugout obviously gallon is
27:31rolling pretty good but that's
27:33all it takes you know months hit
27:35that ball pretty hard and kettle
27:36had a chance to make that play
27:37at second he didn't end up making
27:39it and then tail you know getting
27:41on first rally starts so fast and
27:43then you just be all anybody can
27:45hit the ball out of the stadium
27:47right here you know with this with
27:48this lineup so you look you
27:50blink and it's three two so like
27:52you said it's just any one of
27:54these guys can hit a home or
27:55any one of these guys can have a
27:56good at bat and that's what makes
27:58it so hard you can't take a
27:59breath out there as a starting
28:00pitcher Miguel Rojas who has
28:03said that this will be his final
28:05season as he transitions to a
28:07role in player development so you
28:10just said any guy can hit a home
28:12run how about the guy at the
28:13plate in his home run last year
28:14in the World Series oh man that
28:16was so cool it's such a great
28:18moment for Miggy and you know
28:20obviously tonight he's getting a
28:21start against gallon on opening
28:22day and you know his role is not
28:24going to be to hit right handed
28:25pitchers on this team and so for
28:26him to get to that and then he
28:28gets a hit so there's the curse
28:29opposite of the curse right and
28:31just get another knock but a
28:33really big moment for Miggy and
28:35just to get a tribute to start on
28:36opening day and is probably his
28:37last season is is a really cool
28:40move by Doc and the whole Dodge
28:41organization or you think you're
28:46sitting good coming into this
28:48inning with a two run lead all of
28:49a sudden four hits in a row and
28:51you're down by a run it's got to
28:55be coming close to the end of
28:56his rope here I would imagine
28:59he'll face so tiny for a third
29:01time show hey one for two
29:03tonight he claps at the first
29:06pitch and fouls it away he just
29:08missed that way they're starting
29:09to get some good swings on him
29:10now the action beginning in the
29:14Diamondbacks bullpen with that
29:16pitch actually again Arizona does
29:23not have a left hander in the
29:26bullpen there are some guys with
29:28what they call reverse splits
29:29meaning right handers who get
29:31lefties out better than they get
29:32righties out but this is a
29:35loaded left handed lineup as a
29:37batani reaches there to foul it
29:39away Luis you mentioned
29:44something last night at our
29:45production dinner about what it
29:47is different to face a lefty
29:49even if you've got good numbers
29:51against the left hander yeah it
29:52just kind of gives you a
29:53different look at being a left
29:55handed here you know that
29:56there's one out there these guys
29:57right now in that Dodger dugout
29:59know there's no lefties out
30:00there so they can just focus in
30:03on their at bats right here
30:04knowing that there's not going
30:05to be that tough lefty coming
30:07out of the pen is it a different
30:11swing when you face the lefty
30:13compared to a righty I think
30:14it's more of you know keeping
30:15your front shoulder in staying
30:17on the ball I think now like
30:19Otani and some of these other
30:20guys Freddie Freeman Tucker all
30:22these guys can just let it fly a
30:24little bit with nobody out and
30:26runners on Clayton show his
30:31swings it's so good.
30:33It seems like there are a ton of
30:34them and he's so demonstrative
30:36at the plate what do you watch
30:37when he's at the plate he
30:38swings so hard he's like the
30:40Bryson DeChambeau baseball just
30:42up there trying to hit the ball
30:43eight hundred feet but it's
30:45under control too like he can
30:46actually with two strikes
30:47manipulate the bat head and get
30:49the ball where he wants it and
30:51this is another good at bat
30:52right here you know taking curve
30:54balls he's throwing some change
30:55ups this at bat to him so three
30:58two he kept throwing the fastball
31:01that cuts a little bit and I
31:02wouldn't throw that right here
31:03though he came in on him and he
31:05missed I might be the end of his
31:07night second walk for gallon two
31:12on nobody out this twenty five
31:20pitches now without an out for
31:23gallon in this fifth when I think
31:27that's that's what oral talked
31:28about him and and curse could
31:30tell you to when you got a high
31:32potent offense like the Dodgers
31:34you just you wait for your right
31:36time and when these guys strike
31:38they strike fast here comes to
31:41worry I think this is it before
31:46Kyle Tucker could take up
31:48residence you were on it Clayton
31:50and you know what you know you can
31:52see a manager about to take a
31:54pitcher out from a mile away
31:55can't you yeah you can feel the
31:57stall tactics for sure this
32:02offense is just relentless the
32:04Dodgers five straight base
32:06runners to a three to lead in the
32:09fifth
32:21further than I think it's a
32:25that's a good bet
32:33what you think it's a very
32:34to take a long time
32:34and have a lot of experience
32:34with that
32:38because it can't be a long time
32:39and then you need to take a long
32:40time
32:41to take a long time
32:45and then you want a pair of
32:47like a pair of different도
32:47you want a pair of wearing
32:48this six
32:48and
32:48you
32:48probably
32:49you
32:49say
32:50and the record.
32:52Louisiana 9-7,
32:53that's a first freshman
32:55running to the middle of the ground,
32:56and it's all been known,
32:58where it's a first freshman at the full skills,
33:00with just a 12-0-3-string conference
33:02from Phoenix,
33:02and it's not going to be a rare.
33:04In 16-3 years this season,
33:07Louisiana 8-7,
33:08347,
33:09which runs higher than the M.K. National League.
33:12And with the children,
33:13Louisiana 9-7,
33:1511-60 games,
33:16with a sledgehammer,
33:17and now they are gonna turn eighth or ten,
33:1833% and 435.
33:21On foot right here,
33:26to expand to the Cain,
33:27it's him in this trough,
33:28and Louisiana 9-16-.
33:30Respect the road to pass.
33:31Yeah, that's wonderful.
33:38Good.
33:59this Monday don't miss the feel
34:01so good comedy st. Dennis
34:02medical.
34:03It's an all new episode Monday
34:05on NBC and Peacock.
34:11One of the stars of the show is
34:12here.
34:13I'm told Mackie Lieber is here
34:15at Dodger Stadium enjoying the
34:20ride of a 3 2 lead as Juan
34:22Murillo comes out of the bullpen
34:2427 year old who debuted last
34:27April hard thrower Louise.
34:29Yeah you could see if you get
34:30that ball up to ninety nine a
34:32hundred miles an hour and he's
34:33one of those guys you see
34:34there Tucker was trying to
34:36ambush him there but he came
34:37with a change up on that first
34:39pitch.
34:39They know he's got a good
34:40heater.
34:44He lands a fastball nothing
34:46in two and for Zach Allen who
34:47had something of an uneven final
34:49spring training start but a
34:50really nice spring overall.
34:52Tough way to end it.
34:54Those first few innings though
34:55he looks like he's back on his
34:57game back to his old form and
34:58just see if it's an endurance
34:59factor or is it the Dodger
35:01lineup that is just so deep.
35:04Two strikes launched to left
35:06field and Lawler all right
35:13Clayton Mookie Betts at the
35:14plate two on one out your former
35:18teammates coming up.
35:20What are you watching in this at
35:21bat for a veteran like Mookie
35:23Betts.
35:23Yeah this is not the situation you
35:25want to face Mookie kind of like
35:28Will Smith doesn't really strike
35:29out can find holes put the ball
35:31in play so for me against Mookie
35:35I want to see what he can do if
35:37he can drive the ball to right
35:38field when he's on he can hit
35:39that ball into the gap in right
35:40center if he's not sometimes he
35:42kind of lets the hand release
35:43early and roll over to short so
35:45if I'm a pitcher I'm going to
35:46challenge him on the outer part
35:48of the plate and see if he can't
35:49hit a gapper against me and if
35:52Mookie's going good though
35:53there's really not much you can
35:54do you just got to you know
35:55pick your spots and move it
35:56around hope for the best when I
36:01think what this Dodger lineup
36:02does so well in the middle part
36:04of the order these guys are
36:05professional hitters though use
36:08either side of the field if
36:09you're going to throw them away
36:10they'll shoot that ball the
36:11opposite way if they have to but
36:14they'll pick their spots when
36:15they want to pull that's a fly
36:21ball to right field it's a long
36:22run for Carroll into the corner
36:24and Corbin Carroll is there to
36:26haul it in for out number two it
36:28moves Rojas to third two down
36:34fifth inning three two game and
36:36here's tonight's high
36:37performance it's presented by
36:39Sage and it's what Clayton and
36:42all you both were talking about
36:43the Dodgers with two outs last
36:45year number one and run scored
36:47major league baseball take it
36:48plate and talk about their
36:49heartbeat yeah with two outs it
36:52just doesn't get any easier you
36:53know I think there's no let up I
36:55think when the pitcher sometimes
36:56they get two outs they might see
36:58the finish line a little bit too
37:00early and there's nobody better
37:02at that than Freddie right here
37:03so we'll see what happens if he
37:04can figure out what to throw
37:05with his pitch calm situation and
37:07then get going all right pitch
37:09calm situation you're an expert
37:12curse what happens here why does
37:14this happen never happened to me
37:16I did not use pitch calm unless
37:18there's a guy on second base I
37:19was probably one of the last
37:20guys to keep using fingers and
37:23for me it was just a rhythm thing
37:24like get your sign come up and
37:26go and nowadays guys like to get
37:29the sign early and get on this
37:30get set and go without really
37:32having that rhythm so I don't
37:35know to answer your question I
37:36guess sometimes it just doesn't
37:37happen I think sometimes it's a
37:38stall tactic a lot of times when
37:40they just need a minute that
37:42could have been what that was
37:43right there who knows but you
37:44use it with runners itself yeah
37:46you have to do it on second now
37:47you just don't have enough time
37:48for multiple signs anymore with
37:49the pitch clock Freddie Freeman
37:53did you ever think about using
37:54body language signals and give
37:56them to Will that way I didn't
37:58like giving my own signs I
37:59wanted to have Will's advice you
38:00know kind of like my security
38:02blanket just make sure we're on
38:03the same page you knew what you
38:08wanted to do but you just wanted
38:09to double check with his
38:10fingers yeah I wanted somebody to
38:13tell me I was doing good back
38:14there you're right that is the
38:16right cool affirmation there
38:17yeah you mentioned with Mookie
38:19he's got to go the opposite way
38:20to be locked in but he was still
38:21a pull hitter but with Freddie
38:22don't you think he has many
38:24tools and a lot of clubs in his
38:25bag Freddie can do it all yeah
38:27I mean when he when he takes
38:28batting practice he's trying to
38:29hit ground balls and shortstop
38:30so that's the swing he wants to
38:31feel and obviously you know he
38:34can pull the ball when he needs
38:35to but he knows he doesn't have
38:36to work on that he wants to work
38:37on driving that ball to the
38:39opposite field and that's what
38:40his swing is and there's nobody
38:42better at that than Freddie there's
38:44no chance of a 3 0 swing right
38:46Oh 100 percent there is for sure
38:49yeah if we get a fastball here
38:50he's gonna go Maria has been
38:52staying so far away from him and
38:55he did there yeah I was a
38:56change up though yeah well I
38:58think the thing with Freddie what
38:59he does so well is he uses the
39:00middle part of the field left
39:01center right center so well a lot
39:04of doubles of course a lot of
39:05home runs this guy knows how to
39:07swing the bat up there that
39:08magic wand yeah for Freddie a
39:11homer is an accident he's trying
39:12to put one in the gap like you
39:13said don't go Mario pretty
39:16clearly was staying away from
39:18Freddie Freeman's barrel there
39:20it's ball four and now bases
39:23loaded for Will Smith this is
39:27what Dave Roberts talked about
39:28with the construction of this
39:30lineup he wanted two guys in
39:32these spots in the bar four
39:34hole in the five hole that have
39:35the hits not just the on base
39:37tool and so Freddie Freeman
39:39clutch Will Smith clutch.
39:45What's this first pitch got to be
39:47for Mario to not get damage
39:49against him Clayton.
39:51Well like I said Wills they call
39:53Will short arm Will because he
39:54can drop the head on the ball
39:56down and in better than anybody
39:57so for me I'm throwing a slider
39:59away.
40:00There it is ball one and it's
40:02tough because Will doesn't chase
40:04away so that's the that's the
40:06problem you run into is you want
40:07to throw a first pitch off speed
40:08but eventually you start losing
40:10your count you got to throw a
40:11heater and that's a will will
40:12make you pay 1 0 from Mario he
40:16came in and he jammed him but
40:18Smith rolls it to first Santana
40:20rushes with it and everybody's
40:22safe the Dodgers are back on the
40:24board even though he couldn't get
40:27extended completely Will Smith
40:29and he drives in a run at 42.
40:33He got in Wills kitchen some
40:35fisticuffs and normally Will can
40:37turn on that ball but that one
40:38got so far in and jammed him down
40:40the line.
40:41If he doesn't bobble it Wills out
40:42but that little bobble right
40:44there gave him enough time to get
40:45the first nice play by Santana
40:47just to keep it in the infield
40:48he was playing way over towards
40:49second base.
40:52Will just knows how to get those
40:54runners in it's unbelievable this
40:56guy there's short arm will for
40:59your courage.
41:00Yeah.
41:00Yeah that was a you know when
41:01you're throwing a hundred
41:02sometimes you get jammed you
41:03know it just happens no matter
41:04how quick you are so but you
41:07know Freddie always says good
41:09hitters get cheap hits and that
41:11was a that was a pretty cheap
41:12hit right there for Will but
41:13he's a great hitter so it
41:15happens leaves it for Max
41:23Muncie who started this inning
41:25with a single to right the
41:28Dodgers were aggressive with
41:30Zach Gallin to lead off this
41:31inning and now he goes after the
41:36first pitch there he was hunting
41:41for that fastball got it a
41:42little bit in on him but he
41:45took a good pass at it.
41:56Oh one swing and a miss a hot
41:59fastball Max can turn any
42:06fastball around but this one just
42:07beats him to the spot.
42:170 2 upstairs I mean he's like 6 0
42:218 against fastballs last year he
42:25usually gets show me fastballs
42:27and then a lot of off speed stuff
42:28change ups and breaking balls for
42:30strikes one of the best eyes on
42:34the team knowledge of the strike
42:36zone one to strike three on a
42:42fastball at 100 but five hits in
42:45the inning four runs including
42:48this bomb from Andy Pires and the
42:52Dodgers have taken a four to lead
42:55after batting around.
43:18the field has taken an 11 and if
43:25they will run it off.
43:31What are they going to do to
43:33I think they have a safe
43:34party.
43:37What do I do?
43:39I do.
43:42What do I do?
43:43I do.
43:46I do.
43:48I do.
45:21Pitch number eighty one for the
45:23reigning World Series MVP
45:25Yoshinobu Yamamoto is a strike to
45:29could tell Marty who last time up
45:32had two on and one out lined into
45:34a double play but isn't it so
45:37marvelous to have baseball back
45:39and just looking from the San
45:40Gabriel's there and this beautiful
45:43ballpark oral that you called home
45:45for such a long time and Luis who
45:46you called home for twelve seconds
45:48two thousand and so oral reminded
45:50me don't worry about that but it's
45:52not only an honor to come to this
45:54park and you're inspired as soon as
45:55you see it from the highway and
45:57you're pulling off to come here
45:58but it's an honor to walk on the
46:00field with this many fans four
46:02million fans last year piled into
46:04Dodger Stadium to see the
46:06championship team and I know
46:07Kirsch knows the adrenaline rush of
46:09coming out of the dugout for a
46:11start and getting innovation
46:12before you even throw a warm up
46:14pitch in the bullpen opening day
46:16is the best and then just as the
46:18start of something new and
46:19there's 162 of these they all
46:21count the same but opening day is
46:23just so special it marks the start
46:25of something and it's just getting
46:28the pitch on this day and getting
46:30to be a part of it and like just
46:32all of it is just such a just a
46:33huge honor and I know Yama feels
46:35that third time through right here
46:38against to tell we'll see what he
46:39does try to get him out right
46:40here.
46:42One two on the ground second base
46:45he went to a fastball and Rojas
46:48throws it out one away.
46:51Capital One Venture X card you
46:53earn unlimited double miles on
46:54everything you buy and turn all of
46:56your purchases into extraordinary
46:58trips.
46:59Capital One what's in your wallet
47:04seven straight retired by
47:06Yamamoto as Corbin Carroll stands
47:08in.
47:13The least your favorite opening day
47:15memory.
47:18Well y'all you guys were talking
47:19about being here I think you
47:21know we played a lot of opening
47:23games that Diamondbacks and the
47:24Dodgers Kevin Brown against Randy
47:26Johnson seemed like.
47:27Had a four or five year run but.
47:31I just I enjoyed coming here for
47:33opening day playing games here.
47:36Cubs I played for them a little
47:38bit.
47:38I mean every opening day is
47:40different in its own way I think
47:42it's excitement anticipation for
47:43every player hoping that this is
47:45going to be your year to have
47:47good individual numbers and not
47:48only that but your team is the last
47:50team standing at the top of the
47:52mountain.
47:53Your debut was in this ballpark
47:55was it not.
47:55It was and I remember coming
47:57through center field Glenn Davis
47:59was the first baseman at the
48:00time and he told the cabbie to
48:03pull in the center field and I
48:05walked in through center field I
48:06thought I was walking into a
48:08cathedral.
48:08It was so memorable to me being
48:10a young player my first time up
48:12and to walk in here and I
48:13remember striking out my first
48:15time in the dugout seemed like
48:16it was about a mile and a
48:17quarter away now it's a lot
48:18closer job for the second base
48:21to throw highs for our number
48:23two hurts you see what you do to
48:24hitters they feel like it's the
48:26longest walk that you could
48:27possibly imagine.
48:29Yeah.
48:31Oh man.
48:31But this I was just watching
48:33Yama right there in this inning.
48:34So a third time through see if he
48:36has anything different for these
48:37guys and he started throwing
48:38that cutter backdoor first pitch
48:40to March I was a backdoor
48:41cutter.
48:42I think the one one pitch to
48:43Carol right there was a backdoor
48:44cutter so the ability just to do
48:46different stuff third time
48:47through the order and see how
48:48he does per domo because he
48:49hasn't gotten him out yet so
48:50it's what he does here.
48:51We just saw the homer it was a
48:52two strike homer last time.
48:54Yeah so that was a fastball
48:55right here.
48:57Honestly I wouldn't be surprised
48:58if he tried to throw that back
48:59to our cutter again he had a good
49:00feel for it.
49:04So not only that how about
49:05Dave Roberts having the
49:06confidence just to run him
49:07back out there for another
49:08inning.
49:09You know once his team's taking
49:10the lead here 42 just to keep
49:13running him out there and he's
49:14doing a great job this inning.
49:16Did you just sign that jersey in
49:17the break.
49:18Which one.
49:19Oral.
49:19Oral.
49:20Yeah.
49:21I signed that some time ago.
49:23I remember that where I signed
49:25it because I normally sign a
49:26little different place.
49:28Yep.
49:28The gentleman came out to our
49:29store out in Claremont.
49:32Legends Attica memorabilia store
49:34that I opened a few years ago.
49:35What did you write underneath it.
49:36What did it say.
49:37Something about an MVP.
49:39Oh thanks a lot.
49:40We're letting us be humble here.
49:41No this is a we're looking for a
49:42humble brag of the year on our
49:44telecast and we have a nominee.
49:47I don't know who the cameraman is
49:48but he's getting a tip after the
49:49game.
49:51That was an inside job right there
49:53by Oral.
49:54He had him go right up to him.
49:55You know I worked with a few of
49:57these people at the Little League
49:58World Series back in the day.
50:01It's his home ballpark.
50:02Let him be.
50:04Two and two.
50:05Yamamoto.
50:06Two per domo.
50:07Two out bases clear.
50:09And a swing and a miss.
50:10A filthy splitter.
50:12Clayton's gross.
50:13Just gross.
50:13What is it.
50:14What an amazing.
50:15I bet.
50:16I was wondering why.
50:18What do you got on the splitter.
50:19I mean that was the perfect spot.
50:22Got it down and away.
50:23Just darted that whole inning to
50:25finish the game like that.
50:26That just shows who Yama is.
50:28Just finishing strong.
50:49No.
50:58Robert.
50:59All right.
51:05Don't go to the situation.
51:05Good night.
51:08Everything is going to be a quirk.
51:09Good night.

51:13Good night.
51:13Good night.
51:14Good night.

52:53slash MLB Arizona goes deeper
52:57into the bullpen and it's the
52:59right hand slinger Ryan Thompson
53:01coming out of the bullpen at least
53:03yeah Ryan Thompson's guy give you
53:04a little different look he kind
53:06of has that that little lower
53:08slot delivery almost side on
53:10there a lot of ground balls for
53:11that sinker that he likes to
53:12throw sinker slider.
53:16And when you have a bullpen that
53:18doesn't have a lefty you're going
53:19to definitely want to vary the
53:21arm angles and speeds and the
53:22breaks of your right handers that
53:24are going to all be coming out of
53:26that gate to third that's a hot
53:34balance and arenado snares that
53:36want to play if you come to a
53:40ballpark early and you want to
53:42see a guy take infield that
53:44practice is all of this he'll take
53:47balls right down the left field
53:49line backhand them take a step and
53:52a half into foul territory and
53:53practice that throw from as deep
53:55as he can do.
53:56Yeah he made that look easy that
53:57was a tough play right there.
54:01Curse you got a good look at that
54:02play.
54:03That was a great play I've seen him
54:04do that so many times when he's
54:06with the Rockies and he owns Dodger
54:09Stadium he loves playing here and
54:10I'm excited for Nolan getting a
54:12fresh start in Arizona and I mean
54:14obviously St. Louis is doing a
54:15little bit of rebuilding so for
54:16him to get here be on a team
54:17that's playoff contending and I
54:20hope he has a great year.
54:21He's a good guy works really hard
54:22and hopefully kind of gets his
54:25swag back over in Arizona and
54:26starts hitting some homers again.
54:28He's a local product he's from
54:30southeast of here in El Toro.
