00:00From Holderman and it's three
00:01and one one of the home runs
00:02young hit in spring training.
00:04At a distance of four hundred
00:05seventy eight feet.
00:08There's some thinner air in
00:09Arizona but.
00:10It's quite a blast no matter
00:11where you are.
00:14Shows there's some real power in
00:16that bat at the twenty two year
00:18old second baseman who lofts a
00:20fly ball to left field handled
00:21by C.J.
00:22K.
00:22Fence.
00:24I see that ballpark in Peoria.
00:28You're not a golfer but my
00:30night goes about one sixty so.
00:32That ball definitely hangs up
00:34but.
00:35Nevertheless if you have that.
00:37That's right.
00:38That bat the ball skill.
00:40There's some expectation I love
00:42what I see from defensively.
00:45Two outs as Reebok spats had.
00:48Triple earlier in the game.
00:49All out.
00:50Water took a long run toward a
00:52ball near the right field line
00:53that landed in his glove but
00:55then fell out.
00:56To not rebounds to scoot all the
00:58way to third.
01:00Fly to left his last time as
01:02well.
01:05Taps on.
01:06Follow behind home plate.
01:10Edward Bizarro is warming up in
01:13the bullpen for the Mariners.
01:22Talk about firepower.
01:24Bizarro man series arm strength.
01:29Ball two strikes.
01:32This would be Bizarro's.
01:34First appearance of the season.
01:38After his last one ended tumultuously
01:42and in a heartbreaking way.
01:43For the Seattle Mariners as their.
01:46World Series quest.
01:48Effectively came to an end on
01:50Bizarro's pitch to George Springer.
01:53Game seven of that championship
01:55series last year.
01:58Great battle right.
02:00Spudden Watts the whole playoff
02:01series.
02:02Two balls two strikes on Reeboks.
02:05We've got to get back on the
02:06horse the next season right.
02:07I mean.
02:08No matter how it ended the year
02:09before.
02:13To be honest Wayne I don't know
02:14if you feel like this but I feel
02:15like the season ended two weeks
02:16ago when we're back in the boot.
02:18Everybody's been saying it was a
02:20quick feeling off season.
02:25Two balls two strikes.
02:27It's a flashback that might be
02:28painful here in Seattle.
02:30George Springer with.
02:32A lot of the line in that game
02:33seven winner take all.
02:35For the American League pennant.
02:37Rogers Center.
02:38In an uproar.
02:39After a Springer dinger to remember.
02:42Yeah.
02:43Tried to beat him in her half.
02:44Springer has made a calling card
02:45of being able to get that foot
02:46down early and spin on that
02:48baseball and he knew it was gone.
02:51Dirt makes it three and two.
02:56Impressed by Dan Wilson before the
02:58game today.
02:59I mean it really to him seems like
03:01a distant memory already.
03:03He is very focused on turning the
03:05page and last year was whatever
03:08it was and now it's it's this
03:09year.
03:12Strike three call that's going to be
03:14challenged immediately by Leo Rivas.
03:25That's a strike.
03:26Will Little.
03:27Four for four.
03:29On the challenges tonight.
03:31He should take a lap.
03:32Take a bow.
03:34Nicely done by the home plate
03:36umpire.
03:36He's the winner of the ABS challenge
03:38system tonight.
03:39Home run by Luke Raley helps the
03:41Seattle Mariners extend their lead.
03:42It's five one as we head to the
03:43seven.
04:11London.
04:12That's it.
04:20Yeah.
04:23Yeah.
04:26Yeah.
05:49We take a look at pitching decisions presented by Sage.
05:54George Kirby allowed just two hits in six innings tonight, striking out six.
05:57I felt like after the home run, it really settled him down.
06:00All of a sudden, you saw the sequence, the movement, the execution, not only with the fastball, but with the
06:05breaking ball as well.
06:07That's in the hands of a very capable Mariners bullpen with Edward Bizzardo, the first out of the pen tonight.
06:13In the seventh inning, the Mariners didn't really use their high leverage guys last night.
06:18And as Cleveland was able to get a lead and pulled away late, so the Mariners never had their main
06:25relievers involved yesterday.
06:30As Nailer fouls one back, no balls and two strikes.
06:35George Kirby after his sixth inning performance 90 pitches and a good step in the right direction.
06:41Remember he missed basically the first two months of last season.
06:44So he didn't enter the picture until about June.
06:48As we mentioned he had some really good outings some tough ones as well.
06:52It was hard to find some consistency for Kirby at times last year when he had been nothing but in
06:56his first few seasons.
06:58But this is like the Kirby of all as far as the movement and the velocity.
07:01He saw fastball's 97 98 miles an hour being able to tie up the left handed hitter in this breaking
07:09ball the second and third time in the line.
07:11I'm starting to really come out of his hand with a lot of confidence so really impressed and this is
07:16a good start.
07:17Now it's Pizarro on the mound.
07:20Pizarro had never lost a major league decision until that game seven in the ALCS last year.
07:27He was 5 and 0 during the regular season last year.
07:29He is 9 and 0 in the regular season in his career.
07:33And then that one loss popped up on that one pitch to Springer and was a memorable moment in Toronto
07:40Blue Series history and one they'd like to forget here in Seattle.
07:442 and 2 now on Naylor.
07:47It's the one issue for Pizarro last year.
07:49He did give up the long ball.
07:50A lot of nine homers in the regular season plus three in the playoffs.
07:54It was otherwise a pretty good year.
07:57Peyton Paulette is warming up in the Cleveland bullpen.
08:07All three remember the challenges are gone now for both sides so this game is solely in the hands.
08:13Of the home plate umpire will little.
08:15Of the home plate umpire will little has been good though.
08:19Three and two.
08:22He's been so good he's usurped the challenge system tonight ball four to Naylor and a leadoff man on here.
08:28For the Guardians thanks to a leadoff walk.
08:34And a lot of free passes and that's something that.
08:37That's the course of the season both managers are going to.
08:41Have meetings about that.
08:42Especially how prolific that offense is for the Seattle Mariners.
08:46You cannot allow them to continue to turn a little line up.
08:50You want these free passes.
08:52Try to get some of these plus guys to run up their pitches not only for tonight to get to
08:56get a shot but.
08:57For the course of the series to.
08:58If you're a team that hits a lot of home runs well you want those walks on your side.
09:04You get more base runners.
09:07Pitchers always say the solo homers they don't mind.
09:09It's those two and three run homers and grand slams that really add up the score.
09:16Mariners two homers tonight have both come with men on base.
09:20Naylor's on here.
09:22Count one ball one strike on Hoskins who pops this one out.
09:27Medium depth right field Israeli in position for the catch.
09:31One out.
09:32Score big on authentic gear at MLB shop.com from official jerseys and memorabilia to hats and hoodies.
09:38We've got the season coverage scan the QR code MLB shop.com.
09:43The official source for your favorite team gear.
09:46Maylor brothers on team Canada Cal Raleigh with team USA Venezuela took home the trophy.
09:54What a moment that was for the Venezuelan squad their first WBC title.
09:59And an emotional group including a couple of old guys that are now coaches.
10:04Miguel Cabrera and Johan Santana seem to revel in it just as much as the players do.
10:09I've never seen him cry before until that so a great moment not only for himself but for the country.
10:15They wanted that bad and the WBC it seems like each year it's more passion.
10:21You know more guys want to play in it.
10:24So it's it's it's a fun watch and like I said team Italy there's always a surprise and everyone's surprises
10:30this season.
10:31It's a pop up right near the pitcher's mound.
10:34Yeah.
10:34Yeah.
10:34You know Pizarro was in the way.
10:37That was a little bit of my coaching right there in that situation.
10:41I've had a couple pop ups in the infield and I ran off.
10:43I don't want no smoke for that.
10:45They pay those guys to catch the ball.
10:47Get out of the way and let them catch the ball.
10:56Out of the way.
11:03That's more like D train right there running out of the way.
11:06I don't want another part of that.
11:09Two outs and Arias looks at strike one from Bizarro.
11:14We'd see Matt Brash and.
11:17Andres Munoz.
11:19At the end of this one as well.
11:20Seattle looks to notch its first win of the year after.
11:23Dropping the opener the Guardians yesterday.
11:26Two quick strikes on Arias.
11:30Yeah that's their weapons in the back end of it.
11:35Some of the best arms in all of baseball.
11:40The ball's two strikes.
11:43That's in there.
11:44Strike three calls.
11:45So Pizarro with a good inning after the leadoff block.
11:47Retired the next three.
11:49Time to stretch in Seattle where the Mariners have a 5-1 lead.
11:52Do you ever wash a teenager's clothes?
11:54Avoid it.
14:55direction in their own right
14:56there in St. Louis.
14:58Start to have.
14:59A couple of thin seasons here
15:00recently.
15:06Donovan falls went off two balls
15:08two strikes but Jerry DiPoto
15:10Justin Hollander the Mariners
15:11front office grass they were
15:13really happy to bring Donovan to
15:15the Pacific Northwest where they
15:17feel he fits like any one of the
15:19gloves that he has used over the
15:20course of his career.
15:22Swings and misses.
15:27Pitch had some teeth on it.
15:30He was able to get right under
15:32Donovan sweet power.
15:34Down and in.
15:38Excellent breaking ball twelve to
15:39six tight rotation the hitter
15:41can't pick up on the spin.
15:44Well done baseball.
15:48How Raleigh swings and misses
15:50here.
15:56Mariners two three and four
15:57hitters Raleigh Rodriguez and
15:59Naylor hit list so far with a
16:01whole bunch of strikeouts.
16:02To begin this season.
16:05In ball one strike this is the
16:07major league debut for Peyton
16:08Paulette.
16:10Striking out Brendan Donovan the
16:12first batter that he faces.
16:15The major league level is to see
16:17Raleigh's numbers six.
16:19Strikeouts in six at bats.
16:22Strikes on him here swings with a
16:24little bit long especially at the
16:25top of the zone a little bit big.
16:31And again this is the second
16:32ball game but what's alarming is
16:34how many strikeouts and so few
16:35at bats and so.
16:37You know he has better walk back
16:38to ball skills than that.
16:40One and two.
16:41It's off the outside corner.
16:44Paul that was a rule five pick
16:45up from the White Sox.
16:47Cleveland keeping him.
16:48For their opening day roster
16:52and trying to hang on to him all
16:53season keep him in the
16:54organization see us that MLB
16:56debut patch on the right sleeve
16:58of his jersey.
17:00Already one strikeout under his
17:01belt.
17:03Raleigh just able to stay alive
17:05there falling one off his foot.
17:07Three strikeouts tonight for
17:08Raleigh.
17:09Yeah that's an excellent pitch by
17:11Williams but that's the hole that
17:13they see he wants to get on top
17:15of that fastball Williams going
17:17anywhere from ninety seven to
17:18ninety nine miles an hour.
17:20Very difficult.
17:22Dan Wilson one of the trainers
17:24coming out.
17:27Breaking ball caught right above
17:30the shin guard and that's a tough
17:31place.
17:33Right below the knee.
17:38Serious pain.
17:47Paulette's going to spin another
17:48one right down there.
17:53Payton Paulette's middle name is
17:55Miner is going to have to change
17:56it to major now that he's in the
17:57show.
17:58Right.
17:58He's mad at that especially with
18:00that breaking ball that he
18:01possesses.
18:04Two balls and two strikes on Cal
18:08Raleigh.
18:10That's on the outside corner
18:11strike three calls.
18:12So Raleigh now has struck out
18:13four times tonight and seven in
18:16the first two games.
18:17Yeah well he had an option to be
18:18to go upstairs and throw the
18:20breaking ball and he doubled up
18:21on the breaking ball missed his
18:22spot but after that foul ball off
18:26the knee and that one's off the
18:28plate.
18:28Yeah you can't challenge that.
18:30Yeah you can't challenge that now.
18:30It's a will-will's game.
18:31Yeah but the rail received by
18:35Naylor to make it look like a
18:37strike.
18:38Will Little should get the game
18:39ball after when you win all four
18:40challenges you're you're the star
18:42of the show.
18:43Listen man you know after a while
18:45he keeps up with this they're
18:46going to stop there and stop
18:47tapping that helmet.
18:49Now they can't tap anything.
18:51It's it's just back to good old
18:53fashioned arguing from the
18:54dugout.
18:56Rodriguez have a good cut there.
18:57One ball one strike.
18:58Julio's 0 for 2 with a couple of
19:00strikeouts and a walk tonight.
19:02See when Julio's locked in.
19:04That ball's driven to the 380
19:06side and that's what we see when
19:08it warms up a little bit here.
19:11So they said they want to be
19:12conscious of.
19:14Here at the beginning of the
19:15year is that he can use all
19:17fields.
19:18Swings through that fastball one
19:19and two.
19:24One thing we don't talk about
19:26and we need to talk about more.
19:28I think this collectively on a
19:29baseball scale hitting is very
19:31hard.
19:32You know.
19:34Especially when.
19:36The stuff that these guys
19:37possess now when they're throwing
19:39the slider at 80 to 90 miles an
19:41hour they're throwing a hundred
19:42miles an hour it's very difficult.
19:45Oh.
19:46Right toward the right side foul
19:48ground it's Hoskins over.
19:49to make the catch good debut for
19:51Peyton Paulette going through the
19:53top of the Seattle order one two
19:55three and the seven.
20:19In that situation.
20:23Well we're going to stop and
20:26get the ball all over.
20:31We're going to stop and take the
20:32We're going to stop.
20:38We're going to stop.
20:40We're going to stop.
20:42We're going to stop.
20:43You know.
20:45Good luck.
20:45We'll see you.
20:49.
21:58Friday Night Baseball on Apple TV presented by Essilor.

22:08And brought to you in part by Mikey doing car care right.
22:16We're in Seattle tonight.
22:18Inside our first Friday night broadcast of the season from T-Mobile Park where the AL West champs meet the
22:24AL Central champs.
22:26And it's Seattle with a 5-1 lead tonight.
22:28Matt Brash the very talented right hander got that great slider.
22:32And there's here in the eighth inning against Bo Naylor.
22:36Fires in strike one.
22:38Brash and Munoz.
22:40And really bizarro too.
22:41That's quite a combination at the ends of games for the Mariners.
22:45Absolutely.
22:46Three different looks.
22:47Three different types of fastballs.
22:50You know Brash loves you know that slider not only down in the zone.
22:53But he can go back to as well and so.
22:56These are the plus guys especially when they have a lead this size.
23:00Very solid bullpen for the Mariners.
23:03Headline by those arms as Brash gets a hit here.
23:06One ball two strikes on Brian Roque.
23:12They added Jose Ferrer.
23:14They got him in that trade with Washington.
23:16As Harry Ford who's certainly blocked by Raleigh.
23:19And is dealt to the Nationals.
23:21Here comes Rodriguez sliding.
23:22Did he hold on?
23:23He did not.
23:25It's a base hit.
23:26Ruled a trap ball by the second base umpire.
23:30As Rodriguez thought he had it.
23:32And the Mariners might challenge this.
23:34Ryan Wills is the second base umpire.
23:38And Seattle will challenge.
23:42So Rodriguez coming on quickly with that low line drive off the bat.
23:48Of Rokio.
23:49As we take a look at our replay review.
23:52Powered by Zoom and.
23:54He looked like he got that ball.
23:56Let's see.
23:56This will be a good angle here.
23:57Seattle is challenging a no catch call.
24:00He did catch it.
24:01I think he did.
24:07So this should be the first out of the inning.
24:11And that Brash surprised that was called.
24:15A hit at first.
24:22Grabbed by Rodriguez right off the blades of the grass.
24:29There was a disbelief that was called a hit.
24:31He did catch it.
24:33And you can tell that the ball's not moving once he comes up in the glove and the weapon of
24:38that.
24:42I mean how good is he even to get to that ball.
24:44I thought that ball was down right off the bat of Rokio.
24:46So it needs to be overturned by the umpires watching in Manhattan.
24:54And it's taken a little bit longer than it appeared here in the ballpark that it would need to take.
25:04And it makes you wonder if they feel differently about this being a certain catch by Julio Rodriguez.
25:12We'll find out here in a moment, I think, from Lance Barksdale, who's the crew chief.
25:18But from everything that we've seen on the replays, it looks like it was cleanly caught.
25:25Fans here are already seeing the replay.
25:27They're already hearing chants of Julio.
25:33That's close, Weezy.
25:35Is it too close, I guess?
25:38But the umpires are trying to discriminate here.
25:43I don't think there's any reason to think he didn't catch that.
25:46Except that the call on the field wasn't.
25:48Yeah.
25:49Is it enough to be overturned?
25:53Well, it's enough to make it take forever, that's for sure.
25:56He's got the hat to the side, like he's going to the store.
26:01Side waiting on this.
26:02Oh, man.
26:03Well, if it was good for Griffey, you know, he could wear it.
26:06He could wear it, but, but, Wayne, you ought it today.
26:10You do see that 50 seasons' worth of Seattle baseball on the patch on the jersey there,
26:16as they'll celebrate the 50th anniversary of this franchise this year.
26:21It'll unveil the top 50 in Mariners history later in the year.
26:25And there's the quintessential Julio Rodriguez pick right there.
26:32This is a very long review.
26:38After a review, the column upfield is overturned.
26:41There's a catch.
26:42He is out.
26:51Well, Julio knew all along that he had made that catch.
26:55And finally, after a lengthy adjudication, we have a catch for Julio Rodriguez.
27:05He's standing out there like, haven't you seen my movies?
27:10Man.
27:11A big first out for the Mariners here in the eighth inning.
27:14Now Kwan takes strike one from Brash.
27:19Kwan flying into a double play in the fifth inning.
27:22It was peculiar to see Reese Hoskins taking off from third base on a shallow fly ball.
27:27With Chase DeLaure coming up.
27:30Paul Hoskins made a beeline for the plate, and he was out by about 25 feet.
27:35And that's not even an exaggeration.
27:37And at this point,
27:40that might be their best chance.
27:42You know, especially with DeLaure at the plate.
27:44Ball out!
27:45You've got to give him a shot in that situation.
27:48Because he can tip the game in your favor.
27:50Tough play.
27:52Two balls, one strike on Kwan.
27:54And the Guardians really have not
27:56had another scoring chance since then.
27:57Here's a fly ball to right center.
27:59Shallow coming in for it.
28:00Raley, he dives.
28:01He can't make the play.
28:03Rodriguez there to scoop it up behind him.
28:05It's a single for Kwan.
28:10Baseball's a game of inches, and I felt like Raley flinched a little bit.
28:15Tried to make up for it with the speed at the end, but ball at the bat.
28:20He took a jab, stepped back, and that was the difference.
28:26Almost got home, just barely missed it.
28:29As Kwan reaches with one out.
28:31Now DeLaure, who's responsible for the only Guardians run tonight,
28:34he took the ball, and he took his solo home run in the first inning.
28:39DeLaure only with 138 career games in the minor leagues.
28:43He had so many injury problems over the last few years.
28:48He had a core muscle surgery, he had a broken handmaid bone,
28:51he had two broken feet,
28:53or really one broken foot that he broke twice.
28:59Ended up with a bone graft in there.
29:01I mean, it was a trying few years for DeLaure just to stay on the field.
29:06And when he was in there, he hit.
29:08He hit over 300 in the minor leagues.
29:09He had 20 home runs, he had 40 doubles in that span.
29:15Cleveland believed in him so much
29:16that they stuck him right in the playoffs last year.
29:19Sight unseen, basically.
29:20He had just recovered from his handmaid bone surgery.
29:25That's a credit to the young man, his work ethic, his belief.
29:28You have to earn that.
29:30And take the pitch.
29:32Two balls and two strikes.
29:33DeLaure grew up in West Virginia.
29:36He was born in Frederick, Maryland.
29:38Ended up at James Madison.
29:39He had over 400 in college.
29:46There's a liner to right.
29:47Raley coming in again.
29:48This line is forward to make the catch.
29:53Two outs and Ramirez will be the batter.
29:57Let's take you back to the World Baseball Classic.
29:59Aaron Judge for Team USA.
30:01Thought he had one.
30:02Julio thought otherwise.
30:04You know what?
30:05I knew he had a shot at it because he grounded the fence.
30:08He looked at the fence a lot less time he had.
30:11And as soon as he stutter stepped,
30:14Same as this.
30:16And that's a very big outfield out there for him to have that type of range.
30:20For King Griffey Jr.
30:21To talk about how proud he is of him defensively.
30:24You want to talk about high praise from one of the best that ever did.
30:27He's 25 years old.
30:30Remember in his rookie year.
30:31The Mariners gave Rodriguez a big contract extension.
30:36At the time he had barely had any big league experience under his belt.
30:41But it certainly seems like a golden deal for both Seattle and their superstar in center field.
30:49Two balls, one strike on Ramirez.
30:53Three balls, one strike on Ramirez.
31:02Line to left center.
31:03Another chance for Rodriguez.
31:04Stays on his feet for this one.
31:06Two in the inning.
31:09Mariners are in control tonight.
31:10Three outs away from their first win of 20.
31:12Good moment in this.
33:18Lauren Gardner with your Apple Studio update.
33:20Let's get you out to L.A.
33:21D-backs bottom three.
33:22Mookie Betts with his first bomb of the season.
33:25Gives the reigning champs the lead.
33:27Didn't last long though.
33:28It's now 4-4.
33:31The Dodgers back-to-back champs.
33:34The Dodgers back-to-back champs.
33:35They were able to outlast the Blue Jays in last year's World Series.
33:38They'll try to become the first National League team to try to become the first National League team to ever
33:42three-peat.
33:43And only three-peats have only happened by American League teams.
33:46The Yankees and the A's.
33:48No National League team has ever done it.
33:50The Dodgers certainly have as good of an opportunity to do it as anyone has ever had.
33:56Josh Naylor leading off here.
33:58He smacks one to the gap in the right center.
34:00Good jump to Lauder.
34:01As he slides down to make the catch.
34:05The Lauder's had some trying balls.
34:09One top spin over in the gap right there.
34:12And another one to his left.
34:13And so.
34:15Got down just in time.
34:18Paul kind of propped at the last moment.
34:21The Lauder stayed with it.
34:22One away.
34:23As Naylor facing his former team.
34:25The Guardians.
34:26Hit that ball pretty sharply.
34:28Here's a Rose Arena.
34:29He's had the bat on his shoulder all night.
34:30Finally lets a swing unleash.
34:32And it's a line drive caught by Kwon.
34:36Two up two down here in the eighth inning.
34:40Lauder's saying I gotta get used to these lights.
34:44Not that high.
34:45Triple A.
34:48Two up two down here in the eighth inning.
34:50The batter will be Rayleigh.
34:51He was a two run homer tonight.
34:53There's been a ton of offense in this game.
34:55Only three hits on each side.
34:57But.
34:57Two of the Mariner hits are home runs with men on base.
35:01Responsible for all five of their runs.
35:04Meantime Peyton Paulette has retired all five batters that he has faced in his.
35:09Major League debut here tonight.
35:11Like what I've seen from the young man.
35:13He's aggressive.
35:14Understand how his stuff plays for the hitter.
35:16I think it's been the baseball.
35:18Rule five pick coming over from the White Sox.
35:21Two balls no strikes on Rayleigh.
35:31Hits sharply up the middle but Arias was behind second base to make the play.
35:35And the quick getting two perfect innings for Paulette.
35:38In his big league debut.
36:12If the former mayor was behind the board, I can't hear you speak to them.
36:24You're welcome.
36:25I went home.
36:27I'm home.
36:28I'm home.
36:29I'm home.
36:30I'm home.
36:32I'm home.
36:33I'm home.
36:34I'm home.
36:34I'm home.
38:05It's a good one run.
38:06Zardo a score of the seventh
38:07brash in the eighth and now it's
38:09the closer Andres Munoz in the
38:11ninth.
38:12And one of those talented on the
38:13back end in all of baseball.
38:15Sinker slider combination.
38:17And Zardo on the first pitch
38:19hits it toward the left field
38:20corner long run a Rosarena.
38:22And he just ran out of room as
38:25that ball landed on top of the
38:26sidewalk.
38:30Munoz brought the heat with his
38:31entrance.
38:32You know they turned the lights
38:33off.
38:34They.
38:34They let the flames out.
38:36We needed some of that heat.
38:37It's been a little chilly here
38:38tonight.
38:40Make some s'mores.
38:41The Mariners have been running
38:42great promotional commercials
38:45throughout the spring.
38:46including one with Munoz's entrance
38:49into the cafe into the team
38:51cafeteria.
38:52He had the lights off and the
38:53smoke going.
38:57Andres Munoz on one on Manzardo.
38:59One ball one strike.
39:01Certainly the heat was turned up
39:03for Andres Munoz who really
39:04entered the game.
39:05Help me please.
39:06Cameraman trying to warm his
39:08hands up.
39:10It's a Nippy in the Pacific
39:12Northwest.
39:13And ball two strikes on Manzardo.
39:22Bundle up here tonight.
39:29Manzardo Bo Naylor and Hoskins
39:31do up here in the ninth inning.
39:33Guardians won the opener last
39:34night.
39:35Seattle trying to get the win
39:37back here tonight would be.
39:38Win number one in twenty twenty
39:40six and they hope there are
39:42about ninety others to follow.
39:43You won't be surprised both
39:45these locker rooms meet each
39:47other in the postseason when
39:48it really counts.
39:51Both managers have a great deal
39:52of respect for each other.
39:53Good pitch.
39:54Andres Munoz throws plenty of
39:56those as he strikes out
39:57Manzardo.
39:59Fourth strikeout from Manzardo
40:01tonight over four.
40:03Well Peyton Paulette made his
40:04major league debut tonight
40:05worked to one two three seventh
40:07and then again in the eighth
40:09inning struck out the first
40:10batter that he faced Brendan
40:11Donovan punched out Cal
40:13Raleigh as well.
40:14What a reaction by the Paulette
40:16family watching Peyton get this
40:19done in his first big league
40:20performance.
40:20Love that.
40:22That's what it's about all the
40:23rides all the Capri Suns you
40:25know from a little boy to see
40:27them in the show.
40:29Benton Arkansas as Bo Naylor
40:31lifts a base hit to left just
40:34the fourth hit tonight for
40:35Cleveland as they have a man on
40:37here in the ninth inning.
40:40Paulette went to Benton High
40:41School in Arkansas then
40:42University of Arkansas needed
40:44Tommy John surgery at the end
40:46of his time there before the
40:47White Sox ended up drafting him.
40:51He's trying to see how his
40:53family handled his first major
40:56league outing here today.
40:58They're texting everybody.
40:59You know they text everybody
41:00saying hey we saw you next to
41:02Ted Lasso on Apple TV.
41:04You gotta get Apple TV.
41:07Stream train and wheezy all
41:09day.
41:10Love that.
41:16Probably tell the family back
41:17home you guys are on TV right
41:19now.
41:20One ball one strike on Hoskins
41:22they've had a lot of great
41:23broadcast voices around here
41:24over the years including Rick
41:25Riz who's retiring at the end
41:27of the season.
41:28Rick grew up in Chicago so he
41:29certainly heard Harry Carey say
41:31something along the lines of
41:33they're dancing in the streets
41:34of Benton Arkansas tonight.
41:36With the performance from
41:38Peyton Paulette.
41:40One ball one strike.
41:41As Hoskins takes ball two.
41:47First appearance of this season
41:49for Munoz for a sub two ERA last
41:52year.
42:03He always seems to have that
42:05ability even when he falls behind
42:06the count to be able to land that
42:08nasty slider.
42:10Keep the hitter just off balance.
42:14Fantastic season a year ago is
42:16excellent in the playoffs.
42:19Bounce a foul behind home plate.
42:21How did you find coming back the
42:23next season after a long playoff
42:25run.
42:26Did you feel more mature more game
42:28battle.
42:28Well yes game battle but at the
42:30same time you felt like you might
42:32not have got enough rest
42:33depending on how much use you
42:34had and so for the starting
42:36pitcher if you throwing over 200
42:37innings we say don't do that as
42:39much anymore.
42:40Yeah.
42:40You know that turn around seemed
42:41very quick and so.
42:43Oh no no no no.
42:44Good take.
42:45He didn't feel like a conqueror
42:46coming back.
42:47Oh yeah.
42:48Like he needed a nap.
42:50Three nothing Wade.
42:51Absolutely.
42:53That that revamp of throwing and
42:55doing all the things that you
42:56were successful with the previous
42:58year.
42:59It seems like it rushes really
43:00quick and all of a sudden you're
43:01in street training and you have
43:02this expectation.
43:04To duplicate those numbers.
43:06Hoskins files one off.
43:07The Mariners were.
43:09Somewhat careful with Munoz.
43:11In the postseason last year.
43:12They really didn't extend him.
43:14Much in those kinds of.
43:16Six out performances.
43:17We saw Matt have one.
43:19Where he worked two winnings
43:20was actually in his first
43:21appearance in the playoffs.
43:22In game one of the division
43:24series against the Tigers.
43:25They didn't use him for two
43:26innings again after that.
43:28That breaking ball lands for
43:29strike three.
43:30Hoskins down.
43:31Strikes too early.
43:34The MLB app.
43:36As you cover it all season long
43:38get personalized highlights and
43:39push notifications just for you.
43:41Download the MLB app today.
43:43The number one app for live
43:45baseball.
43:47Franklin Gutierrez making the cut
43:49here.
43:49For a Cleveland Seattle combo
43:52player.
43:53That's my guy right there.
43:54Richie Saxon and Cliff Lee.
43:56Cliff Lee certainly got the job
43:58done in a few places over the
44:00course of his career including
44:01the Phillies as well.
44:03Brenner taking second base on
44:04defensive indifference.
44:05SNAILER.
44:10CJ CAFES at the plate.
44:12Swing and missing here on that.
44:14Tight breaking ball from
44:16Munoz one ball one strike.
44:20Because of the arm action.
44:22Obviously the hand speed it's
44:23tough to pick up on the
44:24rotation.
44:25He makes a lot of hitters look
44:27silly with that slider.
44:29Founcing ball to short.
44:30The Seattle Mariners have
44:33restarted their journey toward
44:34their first ever World Series.
44:36They hope this is the year as
44:38they notch win number one
44:40tonight.
44:40They beat the Guardians five
44:42to one.
44:43Once again with the long ball
44:45they're showing that line of
44:46flexing and really haven't had
44:47their core guards starting to
44:49hit the baseball but.
44:51Long face by George Kirby was
44:54outstanding on the mound and
44:55really set the tone.
44:57That's a good point.
44:57For the staff.
44:59Kirby very good tonight.
45:01Six innings one run allowed
45:02six strikeouts.
45:04Mariners hoping to kick their
45:06way all the way back to
45:07October.
45:08When you think about what
45:09last season was.
45:11You just stick it in the
45:12rearview mirror.
45:12You've got to do the whole
45:13journey over again.
45:14I thought you made a good
45:15point.
45:15That you want to rush back to
45:17October but you've got to do
45:18the whole thing one day at
45:19a time.
45:20Absolutely.
45:20And they know they have a
45:21group that's very
45:22responsible.
45:23They understand that this city
45:25this fan base wants them to
45:27return back to that spot.
45:28They get over the hump and
45:30represent the city in the
45:31World Series but it's one day
45:32at a time keeping key guys
45:35healthy and having fun and
45:36playing Seattle Mariner
45:38baseball.
45:38Only one win at a time can go
45:41on your ledger and this was
45:42win number one for the
45:43Mariners tonight as they did.
45:455-1 over the Guardians tonight.
45:47Cole Young hit a three run
45:49homer Luke Raley a two run
45:50shot.
45:51Seattle only had three hits the
45:52game but the two home runs
45:53with men on base made a big
45:54difference.
45:55Well I did an outstanding good
45:56job of not chasing out of the
45:58zone.
45:59Williams was a tough customer.
46:00It was tough to square up but
46:02they continue to just get guys
46:04on base timely hitting at the
46:06right time.
46:07That's why they won the ball game.
46:08And the first hero of 2026 for
46:10the Mariners is Cole Young.
46:11He's standing by with Heidi
46:12Wadley.
46:12Yeah here with Cole Young
46:14first home run of the year
46:15after a great spring for you.
46:16What are you doing differently
46:17at the plate.
46:18Yeah.
46:19I'm just getting on time for
46:20first stop.
46:21So.
46:22Yeah.
46:23First game is spelled super
46:24behind.
46:25Other than that about it's made
46:27an adjustment to get on time
46:28with this stuff and.
46:29Just try to put the ball in
46:30play.
46:31I know you carried it a couple
46:32times last year but do you
46:33realize how heavy that trident
46:34is.
46:35Yeah it's pretty heavy.
46:36Yeah you don't really realize
46:37it till you pick it up.
46:38It's.
46:39Definitely might be a hundred
46:40pounds.
46:41Yeah.
46:41Seriously.
46:42Dan Wilson said you came into
46:44the spring with a plan.
46:45You had a great off season.
46:46You were really prepared.
46:47What did you do differently.
46:49Yeah.
46:49I think it was just you know
46:50learning from what I didn't
46:52do well last year.
46:53And.
46:54Just want to work this off season
46:55and just try to improve on
46:56the stuff that.
46:57I need to improve on.
46:58And.
46:59Yeah.
47:00Well the organization moved on
47:02from Jorge Polanco because
47:03they believe in you.
47:04How much confidence does that
47:05give you.
47:05Yeah.
47:06It gives me a lot.
47:06But you know still got to go
47:08out every day and give my all
47:09and keep working.
47:10All right.
47:11Expectations or World Series
47:12or bust for this team.
47:13What's it like in that
47:14clubhouse with those
47:15expectations.
47:16Yeah.
47:16We're hungry.
47:18You know we got to come out
47:19every day and win and just
47:20keep getting better too.
47:21So.
47:22We're super hungry and
47:22motivated to get there again.
47:24Thanks Cole.
47:24Congratulations.
47:26Thank you Wayne.
47:27Paul Young with a three run
47:28homer set it up for Seattle
47:29to get their first win of the
47:31new season.
47:32They beat Cleveland five to
47:33one.
47:34We'll be back to wrap things up
47:35from T-Mobile Park in just a
47:37few moments.
48:15We're all be right
48:16Oh my God.
48:23I'm sorry.
48:35This Cyber sunw redu트가
48:36And when he feels like
50:48Take a look at tonight's best of Goodyear drone cam.
50:53Drone cam is so nice.
50:55It gets its own highlight package.
50:57It should in this beautiful city of Seattle.
51:01Snowcapped mountain in the background.
51:05All the stuff you see every time Seattle has a sporting event at C-Mobile Park.
51:13That's live from downtown Seattle tonight.
51:17With Dontrell Willis, I'm Wayne Rantazo.
51:19It was a 5-1 win for the Mariners.
51:21Good played game for Seattle.
51:23George Kirby pitched really well.
51:24And they got a couple of home runs to knock it out.
51:26Well, the bottom of the lineup, especially for the Mariners, were absolutely outstanding.
51:29You saw Young get his foot down, really square up a baseball.
51:32They were knocking on the door all day against Gavin Williams.
51:36He had trouble commanding the baseball, but timely hits.
51:40You're going to see that from that lineup all season long.
51:43This is a very deep lineup, especially adding Donovan.
51:46But it's amazing that they're going to be able to win ballgames.
51:49And we still haven't seen Big Dumber get his foot down,
51:52or none of the core guys like Rosalina factor in.
51:55And they will once the season progresses.
51:56But this is a big-time win for them, and it was fun.
51:59But George Kirby, he looked like the Kirby of old,
52:02especially bouncing back after that home run.
52:04You saw the command, the movement, and really the mound presence.
52:08He stayed on the glove all day long.
52:10And I love what I saw from the secondary pitch.
52:13That's a nasty whooper-duper right there, Wayne.
52:15And that movement, he lead.
52:17That's our cap-off tonight, presented by Blue Moon.
52:20And special credit for Will Little.
52:23Both catchers challenged twice and lost.
52:26Stay out a little away right there, because he was absolutely outstanding.
52:305-1, the Mariners win their first victory of the year
52:32after Cleveland took the opener here yesterday.
52:35That's our first Friday night baseball broadcast of the season.
52:37We'll be back next week for another doubleheader.
52:407.30 Eastern, the Brewers are in Kansas City.
52:42Interleague matchup with the Royals.
52:43It's 9.30, the Braves and Diamondbacks from Chase Field out in the desert.
52:48That's always a good time.
52:49Live pregame coverage starts at 7 o'clock Eastern from our studio.
52:54The Mariners get their first win of 2026 tonight
52:56as they beat the Guardians.
52:58For other scores, highlights, and the latest news around MLB,

53:03For Dontrell Willis, Heidi Watney, and our great crew,
