00:00Love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my own.
00:20Well, good evening everyone. Good to see you all.
00:23Let's have a reading from the book of John, chapter 1.
00:27In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
00:31He was in the beginning with God.
00:33All things were made through him, and without him nothing was made that was made.
00:38In him was life, and the life was the light of men, and the light shines in the darkness, and
00:43the darkness did not comprehend it.
00:46There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
00:49This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the light, that all through him might believe.
00:54He was not that light, but was sent to bear witness of that light.
01:00That was the true light, which gives light to every man coming into the world.
01:04He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world did not know him.
01:09He came to his own, and his own did not receive him.
01:12But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become children of God, to those who
01:18believe in his name,
01:19who are born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but
01:25of God.
01:26And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only
01:32begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
01:34John bore witness of him, and cried out, saying,
01:38This was he of whom I said, He who comes after me is preferred before me, for he was before
01:44me.
01:45And of his fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.
01:49For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
01:55No one has seen God at any time.
01:57The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him.
02:02So tonight, I want to talk about Jesus, as much as I can possibly do that.
02:11Jesus is the Son of God, we know that.
02:14Jesus died on the cross, we know that.
02:16Jesus is my Saviour, I know that.
02:18Jesus died on the cross and rose again.
02:21The Father raised him from the dead, and we know that.
02:24And so we worship the Lord, because Jesus is our Saviour.
02:29If I asked you to go to the beginning of the Word, where would you go to?
02:36Genesis chapter 1.
02:38Good beginning. It's not the beginning.
02:41Not the beginning.
02:42Because in the beginning was the Word.
02:45The Word was with God, and the Word was God.
02:48He was in the beginning with God.
02:51All things were made through him, and without him nothing was made that was made.
02:57In the beginnings God created the heavens and the earth.
03:01It was Jesus who did it.
03:04Genesis tells us here, in chapter 1,
03:09In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth,
03:11and the earth was without form and void, and darkness was on the voice of the deep.
03:16We read here, in the book of John, chapter 1, verse 1,
03:20In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
03:25Furthermore, we read in Colossians chapter 1, in verse 15,
03:30He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
03:35For by him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth,
03:40visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers,
03:46all things were created through him and for him.
03:49And he is before all things, and in him all things consist.
03:55And he is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning,
04:00the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he may have the preeminence.
04:05That is who we are worshipping.
04:07Besides being Jesus, who came, who was born of a virgin, and became a baby,
04:15and was recognised as God, who recognised as Father as God,
04:21I and my Father are one, he said, and the Jews sought to stone him.
04:25Besides all these things, how he suffered for us, and he went to the cross and died for us.
04:29He made everything, everything that we can visibly see and understand,
04:34whether it's the mountains, or the seas, or the forests.
04:39Every single thing has been created by God the Word.
04:44God the Word.
04:46The Word became flesh.
04:48It's a mystery that we cannot comprehend.
04:52And Mary, she was a bit flabbergasted, and she said,
04:55How can this be? I don't know a man.
04:58How could I have a baby?
05:00And the Holy Spirit will come upon you, Mary, don't be bothered.
05:03Oh, well, that's all right then, that's fine, thank you very much.
05:06And she became pregnant.
05:07She just, she accepted it.
05:10Well, what woman would just say,
05:12Yo, let's go ahead, and, you know.
05:15It's a mystery beyond comprehension.
05:18But the mystery, another mystery beyond comprehension,
05:21is the fact that we are spiritual beings.
05:26We are physical in our flesh, and our bones, and our structure.
05:30But the Bible tells us that what we have is the temple, as a temple.
05:35The temple is something where God dwells in.
05:38And we are told that the Spirit dwells in us,
05:40that our bodies are the temple for the Holy Spirit to indwell.
05:43And so we have an incredible obligation to fulfill our testimonies
05:52that I am born again, that I believe God, and that God is my Father.
06:00The Bible tells us that God is the Father of spirits.
06:04We are spirit people.
06:07But how often, and how regularly, do we not walk in the flesh?
06:12Because the flesh is what the leaves are to the trunk of the tree.
06:19The flesh of the leaves, and exposed to the wind, and the storms, and everything.
06:24And after a heavy storm, you'll see leaves scattered all over the roads,
06:28and the sweepers come, cleaning up everything, and the branches.
06:31Even sometimes trees are blown over, because of the resistance of the wind,
06:37the sheer force of the wind on the bulk of the tree.
06:41The more leaves there are, the more resistance there is.
06:44Like a big ship sailing along, they have to drop the mainsail,
06:47because otherwise the ship will be blown upside down,
06:49because of the force of the wind.
06:52Our bodies are similar to those sort of things,
06:55because we are exposed to the winds of change in the world.
06:59We experience them, we see them with our eyes,
07:02we feel them sometimes when we fall and break our legs,
07:06we feel them sometimes when you have infection in our chest,
07:09and we can't breathe.
07:11But the Spirit is still there, trying,
07:13the Spirit is there helping us, helping us all the time,
07:16giving us that hope.
07:18A hope that no man can take away from us.
07:21The hope of our redemption.
07:23What is hope if it's not an expectation?
07:26Something I'd be looking forward to.
07:28I hope it's going to happen.
07:30And this hope of ours, the harder the things become in the world,
07:33the more serious things become, the more dangerous things become,
07:37the more the hope is flourishing as we wait and look to the coming of the Lord,
07:44which is promised that will happen to us.
07:46So Jesus was born as a man.
07:48He was born of Mary, and he grew up as a young lad,
07:54as a young boy, under the instruction of his mom and dad.
07:58And he grew up in such a manner that when he was baptized by John the Baptist,
08:07having not yet preached a word,
08:09his very lifestyle was applauded by God and recognized by God,
08:15by pouring the Holy Spirit on him,
08:17because the Spirit descended in the form of a dove.
08:19And a voice came from heaven saying,
08:21This is my beloved Son with whom I am well pleased.
08:25This is my beloved Son.
08:27And from there, Jesus began his ministry.
08:31We know that he is God because the Bible tells us he is God.
08:34We know that he is God because the Holy Spirit told us in the book of Luke,
08:39for instance, that the Holy Spirit will come upon you and you will conceive
08:44and you will bear a son and you will call his name Jesus
08:47and you'll turn the hearts of many to God.
08:51These things we know.
08:53And then Jesus goes out and he starts his ministry.
08:57And he wasn't aggressive, but he was direct and to the point,
09:02to the point that people wanted to stone him regularly.
09:06They wanted to kill him regularly because he didn't say,
09:10Oh, I'm sorry, my brother.
09:12Okay, it's not so bad.
09:13It's not so bad.
09:14Well, you know, just try a little bit harder,
09:16but you know, you're actually preaching the wrong thing.
09:18He didn't say things like that nicely and pleasantly.
09:22He called them a brood of vipers, whitewashed sepulchres,
09:26and all sorts of other demeaning names to the point that they lost control of themselves
09:33and they went off in a rage and a fury trying to make plans to kill Jesus
09:38because they could not stand the truth of the matter,
09:44which he was revealing to everyone.
09:47This is who you really are.
09:51If a man came to me and told me all the secrets of my heart before everyone,
09:55I'd probably get angry too because I'm not the cleanest of people.
09:59I think none of us are.
10:00I don't know, but here he is.
10:03He's accosting everyone all the time.
10:08So Jesus has become a huge, huge, huge problem to the society in which he lives,
10:14to the nation from whom he was born.
10:18Mary was of the lineage of, in Matthew, I can't remember the lineages.
10:23I didn't look it up.
10:24I didn't think of it.
10:25And Joseph also, but Joseph wasn't his father.
10:28It was Joseph, the supposed father.
10:31God was the father of the Lord Jesus Christ.
10:34The incredible thing for me, though, is I am the son of my physical father.
10:41But, and Jesus is the son of his physical father, God, God, the spirit.
10:48And yet he has a greater comprehension of his father in heaven that I have of my physical father
10:54that I ever had of my physical father.
10:56Sometimes I didn't know my dad at all.
10:59Other times I did.
11:00I thought he was a great guy.
11:01But feelings fluctuated.
11:03But Jesus never once said, you know, I've got a problem with my dad.
11:07He never once.
11:08He said, everything that my father does, I do.
11:12I don't do anything.
11:14I don't do anything that he has not told me to do.
11:18I don't say anything unless he tells me to say it.
11:23These we find in the book of John.
11:26Let's go and read a few of them.
11:28In John chapter 5, for instance, we can start off there.
11:31For this reason, the Jews persecuted Jesus and sought to kill him because he had done
11:36these things on the Sabbath.
11:37But Jesus answered them, my father has been working until now and I have been working.
11:43Therefore, the Jews sought the more to kill him because he not only broke the Sabbath,
11:48but also said that God was his father, making himself equal with God.
11:54Jesus answered and he said to them, most assuredly, I say to you,
11:58the son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the father do.
12:03For whatever he does, the son also does in like manner.
12:09For the father loves the son and shows him all things that he himself does.
12:13And he will show him greater works than these that you may marvel.
12:17So here we have one declaration of Jesus.
12:19The son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the father do.
12:25John chapter 8, reading from verse 25.
12:28Then they said to him, who are you?
12:30And Jesus said to them, just what I've been saying to you from the beginning.
12:33I have many things to say to you and to judge concerning you, but he who sent me is true.
12:39And I speak to the world those things which I heard from him.
12:42They did not understand that he spoke to them of the father.
12:45Then Jesus said to them, when you lift up the son of man, then you'll know that I am he
12:51and that I do nothing of myself.
12:53But as my father taught me, I speak these things.
12:57And he who sent me is with me.
12:59The father has not left me alone, for I always do those things that please him.
13:06And another one in John chapter 12, verses 42 to 50.
13:10Nevertheless, even among the rulers, many believed in him.
13:13But because of the Pharisees, they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue.
13:18For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
13:22Then Jesus cried out and said, he who believes in me, believes not in me, but in him who sent
13:28me.
13:29And he who sees me, sees him who sent me.
13:32I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in me should not abide in darkness.
13:38If anyone hears my words and does not believe, I do not judge him.
13:43For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.
13:46He who rejects me and does not receive my words has that which judges him.
13:52The word that I have spoken will judge him at the last day.
13:55For I have not spoken on my own authority.
13:58But the father who sent me gave me a command.
14:14And so here we have some examples of Jesus speaking the word that he had been given in obedience to
14:21the commandment of God the Father.
14:23Saying, I'm doing nothing of my own accord, but what God the Father has told me to do.
14:29I think what we need to highlight here is the element of obedience, which Jesus displayed by the comments which
14:39he made here.
14:39That it was not him.
14:41Remembering who Jesus was, he was God and man.
14:44He was born of the Virgin Mary.
14:48But he was a spirit man.
14:50To the point that he could say, I am.
14:52When they asked him who he was, speaking about Abraham.
14:55So with everything that he did, we read about the faith of Jesus in Revelations chapter 14.
15:02Now, I'm not sure about that statement.
15:05The faith of Jesus.
15:07Did Jesus walk by faith?
15:09I tend to like and I want to believe that he did walk by faith if he was a man.
15:14That is part and parcel of the walk that we have.
15:18And if Jesus has come as our example and the one who goes before us to show us the way,
15:23faith is a necessity.
15:25For without faith, it is impossible to please God, we are told in the book of Hebrews chapter 11.
15:29And if it is impossible to please God without faith, and we are told in Revelations chapter 14 and verse
15:3512, I think it is.
15:37The faith of Jesus is the only place.
15:42Oh, sorry, not the only place, but there's another place.
15:45And that is in the book of James, where James states as well.
15:49In James chapter 2 and verse 1, he says,
15:53My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, our Lord of glory, with partiality.
16:00The faith of the Lord Jesus Christ.
16:03So I'll just put out there that for you to pray about and to work out for yourselves.
16:09The faith of Jesus.
16:11Did he conduct his life in faith, with faith?
16:15Faith towards God?
16:17Or not?
16:18Or did he just do?
16:20And the commandments that he accepted and that he did, in the capacity as the Son of God.
16:25We are told there, he did nothing by his own testimony.
16:29I do nothing of myself.
16:31Everything I say and everything I do, I do in accordance with what my Father has taught me and told
16:39me to do.
16:39I think possibly what is very, very important to us is that, you know, we're all on this pilgrim's road.
16:50All of us are walking in the world, not of the world.
16:55We are working out.
16:59Now listen to my words, because I've been in so much trouble, because I'm not working for my salvation.
17:04We are working out the traffic, the distance, the hindrances on our way to the day of glory when we
17:15get raptured, when we get taken home, when we die.
17:20So I'm working out, how am I doing on my walk on this pilgrim's road to my destiny, to my
17:27goal?
17:28What are the problems am I encountering, and am I able to overcome the problems, which are myriad?
17:37Because the antagonist along this pilgrim road in which I am walking is Satan.
17:43He's walked it many times with many believers.
17:46It's not the first time that he's encountered pilgrims on the road.
17:50And the thoughts come, this is a bit hard, this is a bit difficult, this is a bit tough.
17:54Oh, I'm just going to have a rest here, and read Pilgrim's Progress, about how the pilgrim lay down in
17:59the arbor to rest a while.
18:02Read about Pilgrim's Progress, when he thought he'd just go through this little swampy section, and he landed up in
18:08Maya up to his neck.
18:09I can't quite remember the whole story.
18:11It's a long time ago that I read it, but Pilgrim's Progress is well worth reading.
18:15We need to read it, because that's a human story of a spiritual battle right the way through to the
18:22end.
18:23We are in a fight.
18:24We are told so many times that we are soldiers of Christ.
18:27We have to put on the armor of Christ.
18:29We have to be prepared.
18:30We have to pray without ceasing.
18:32These exhortations come all the time.
18:35And then we gather once a week, and we say, praise the Lord.
18:38What have I got to tell you?
18:40What are you going to tell me?
18:41Am I encouraged in my walk?
18:43Can I keep going?
18:44What is it?
18:45And the purpose of these meetings that we have is to encourage one another, to exhort one another, to keep
18:51going.
18:52I'm saying, the problems aren't unique, but for me they're unique, because my path is different to your path.
18:58I have different temptations.
19:01I have different obstacles that you'll have to go.
19:04And you might have already done those at some time in the past.
19:06You say, no, this is how you've got to do this, my brother.
19:08Look at this.
19:09Read this and see that and understand this.
19:11And we are walking in the Spirit.
19:13We're not walking in the flesh.
19:15But when we walk in the Spirit, we are told to produce fruit.
19:21Not fruits and many fruits, as in Galatians chapter 5 and verse 16.
19:27Just fruit.
19:28And the fruit consists of love, joy, peace, goodness, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, and long-suffering.
19:35That is the fruit in its entirety.
19:38There's not one of love, and one of joy, and one of peace.
19:42Well, I think today I'm going to have the fruit of joy.
19:44I'll never mind the love.
19:45I don't love you anyway, so I'm just going to be joyful.
19:47Don't worry about you.
19:49We can't disseminate and dissect.
19:51There's one fruit.
19:52And that is a unit.
19:54And that is us.
19:56And we need to exercise ourselves towards godliness in the fullness of the fruit that God is wanting us.
20:04It's difficult.
20:05And it only comes with time.
20:08I was looking, when I got to England, I thought about planting an apple tree.
20:14And I can't remember actually what happened, but I never did.
20:19Because there was something about waiting four years before you bear the fruit, unless it was a different tree I'm
20:24thinking of.
20:25But it was, I thought, I'm not going to wait that long.
20:27But we are products of the Spirit.
20:32And the Spirit is fighting against the flesh all the way.
20:36And then many times, the Spirit is fighting against 50 years of accumulated worldly rubbish.
20:43And then all of a sudden, there's this new baby being born, which says, I'm in charge.
20:48And the flesh is saying, not in your life.
20:50And it's fighting to try and keep control over this new creature which is being born.
20:55And this new creature which has been born, born of the Spirit, born of God's will,
21:02is now trying to grow up against the old man.
21:06We're told about that right from the very beginning when Abraham and Sarah didn't have a child.
21:12And Hagar came along and Sarah said, well, we need a child, so get on with Hagar.
21:19Ishmael was born.
21:21And then later on, when God's promise was fulfilled for Abraham and Sarah, Isaac was born.
21:27And at 12 years old, Ishmael was mocking Isaac.
21:32Isaac, I can't remember the exact wording, but it's in around about Genesis chapter 18 to 19 or 20-ish.
21:40And Sarah got angry.
21:41And she said to Abraham, get rid of this bondwoman and her son.
21:45He will not be heir with my son.
21:48And the anger came up there.
21:50But the old heir, what a point I'm making there is the older son persecuted the younger son.
21:55And it's always the same way.
21:58Cain killed Abel.
21:59There's always the older and the younger.
22:01There's always the older trying to kill the younger.
22:04It seems to be a biblical concept which is going on all the time, right through to the end of
22:09the Bible.
22:13And so we have this continual struggle.
22:16Even now, even today, the flesh is saying one thing and the spirit says another.
22:20And we need to know what the Bible is telling us and what the spirit is telling us.
22:25And the only way that we can do that is if we, what Jesus said was to the disciples.
22:31And I mentioned this a couple of weeks ago up in Quentin.
22:34But when Jesus was speaking and he said to the disciples, you know, the only way you're going to be
22:39able to grow is if you eat and drink of the bread of heaven.
22:43And I am the bread of heaven.
22:44And they said, this is too difficult.
22:46This is too hard.
22:47And many of the disciples turned away and left him because they just couldn't, they couldn't, they couldn't take in
22:58this teaching that eating Jesus, drinking his blood, eating him.
23:02But what Jesus was saying, you have to live in me so completely that I am one with you, that
23:09my mind will be your mind and your mind will be my mind.
23:12As he said of his father, he said, I and my father are one.
23:17I will do everything that he wants me to do.
23:20But when we get instructed like that, what do we say?
23:25Hey, that's a bit difficult.
23:26I'm not going to do that.
23:28And the disciples turned away.
23:29That is what they did.
23:31And Jesus then turned to the few left with Peter and John and the few left.
23:35And do you want to go too?
23:37Do you want to go too?
23:39And they said, no, where else are we going to go?
23:41The question that comes up to this evening too is where else are we going to go?
23:46If we do not want to completely cover ourselves in Christ to the point that it is no longer I
23:58that liveth, but Christ that liveth in me, that when I conduct myself, I'm doing it in a Christ-like
24:03manner.
24:04And if somebody swears at me, which happens, not regularly, but it has, I'll just turn and walk away and
24:11not turn back with who you think you're talking to, which is our natural response.
24:16Our natural response should be love your enemy.
24:21But you know what?
24:22In times of stress and situation, the flesh comes to the fore, not the spirit.
24:28And you do what works naturally.
24:32And naturally is, I'll give you a slap.
24:34And that doesn't work.
24:36We need to love each other.
24:37And the true man is only revealed under times of duress.
24:42When there isn't any chance to gather your composure together and to think about it and try and get a
24:49nice, calm answer, it's an instantaneous reaction, like you chuck a match into a fuel tank, boom, and there's an
24:57explosion.
24:57And you've got no control over it.
25:00The control has already been lost because we've forgotten who we are.
25:04Because the old man has overpowered the new man, which is still growing and still trying to get maturity and
25:11still trying to get an understanding of who I am in Christ.
25:15Jesus didn't have that problem because right from the very beginning, he was in God.
25:20My father is in me and I am him and I'll hear him and I only do what he wants
25:27me to do.
25:28But Jesus said, I and my father will come and make our home with him.
25:34It's in John.
25:37That means that I am the receptacle of the spirit of God in the area which I have access to
25:46in the peripheral of my existence.
25:49So I need to be aware of who I am.
25:53When Paul says I need to pray without ceasing, he means that.
25:58And I've been reading that again and again for months.
26:04And I have found that it is possible because the more you pray, even if it's a small prayer, thank
26:10you, Lord, for bringing me safely to Chartres.
26:13Lord, take me home safely.
26:14Lord, help me to speak properly.
26:16Lord, everything but pray without ceasing.
26:20He's your constant companion.
26:22We don't think that he's our constant companion.
26:25We don't think when we say, go to bed at night, Lord, I love you.
26:29Abba, Father, thank you for loving me.
26:31The more you do that, it's like practicing.
26:36The more you practice your tennis strokes or your golf strokes or whatever, the better you can get and the
26:42better you will be and the more expert you'll be.
26:45There's a guy called Gary Player.
26:47A long time ago when I was young, he was the number one golf player in South Africa.
26:52And his name was up there, Gary Player, Gary Player, Gary Player.
26:56And he was interviewed one day and the guy and the interviewer said to him, well, you know, you really
27:04got that stroke very, very well.
27:06And I see that one was pretty good as well.
27:09And he said, yeah, it's amazing what practice does.
27:11Eight hours a day, every day, doing the same thing, how you become an expert.
27:15And so we need to become experts in this that we have here, the Bible.
27:21And that's why we need each other to be able to speak clearly with one another about the word of
27:27God.
27:27Because this is my roadmap.
27:31This is my Google map.
27:33This is the, what's the little thing on your dashboard?
27:39Tom Tom.
27:41This is my Tom Tom to get me to the kingdom of heaven.
27:44It's telling me where to go.
27:46It's telling me what to look out for.
27:48It's telling me where there's going to be a detour.
27:51It's telling me where there could be an accident.
27:54And it all depends upon my attention to detail.
27:58Because I'm not listening to the Father.
28:00Jesus listened to the Father all the time.
28:03And at the end, he died on the cross in obedience to what God, the Father, was wanting him to
28:10do.
28:11So now, with Jesus doing all that, God is spirit.
28:15And we have been born by the will of God again.
28:20So we are spirit-filled people.
28:22Jesus was spirit.
28:25But we read in the book of Hebrews the various things that happened to the Lord Jesus Christ.
28:32And Hebrews seems to enumerate a number of them.
28:38Chapter 2 and verse 9.
28:41We see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death.
28:48Jesus, the creator of the heavens and the earth, who made the angels.
28:52He humbled himself to be lower than the angels.
28:57That the angels came and ministered to them.
29:00And they said, Lord, here, have a drink.
29:02They ministered to the Lord Jesus, who made himself lower than them for the suffering of death.
29:09And he's been crowned with glory.
29:139 and verse 10.
29:15For it was fitting for him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things.
29:21In bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
29:29So though Jesus was the Son of God, he suffered because of you and I.
29:34And that made him perfect.
29:39It's something.
29:40Can you imagine that Jesus, the Son of God, who is perfect.
29:44Jesus, the Son of God, who three times heard the voice of the Father saying,
29:48This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased, wasn't perfect.
29:54He had to be perfected through sufferings.
29:57But not because he wasn't perfect, I believe.
29:59I think he was made perfect to become the perfect sacrifice for you and I.
30:06Perfect in himself.
30:08But the perfectness was fulfilled with the sacrifice on the cross.
30:14Because that was his goal.
30:16That was the ultimate pinnacle of the reason and the purpose for Christ's coming.
30:22To give himself, body, soul, and spirit, on the cross and die for us.
30:29That by his sins we are healed.
30:32That he fulfilled every single law that where he was.
30:35And because of that, the Father God took him up and put him at his right hand.
30:44And chapter 5 and verse 2 of Hebrews.
30:50He can have compassion on them who are ignorant and going astray, since he himself is also subject to weakness.
30:59Did you know that Jesus was weak?
31:02When he was in the Garden of Gethsemane, he went off to pray and he fell on his knees and
31:07he prayed,
31:07Oh, Father God, if it is your will, take this cup away from me.
31:12And the sweat drops became like blood as he prayed.
31:17And he prayed three times, Father, take this away from me, but not my will, but yours be done.
31:23He was subject to weakness.
31:24We don't think of Jesus as being subject to weakness.
31:27But he was.
31:28Jesus got angry.
31:29We read about it somewhere in the scriptures as well, but I haven't got a reference for that.
31:36And chapters 5, chapter 5 and verse 8, verse 7.
31:41Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with vehement cries and tears
31:47to him who was able to save him from death,
31:50and was heard because of his godly fear, though he was a son, yet he learned obedience by the things
31:57which he suffered.
31:59And having been perfected, he became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey him.
32:08So suffering is part and parcel of the walk of the Christian.
32:12Don't be surprised when suffering comes, whether it's a broken leg or whether it's a bad chest or whatever it
32:19might be.
32:20It's part and parcel of the walk that we have with the Lord.
32:24In Hebrews chapter 12, as I come to an end, verse 7.
32:28If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons.
32:33For what son is there whom a father does not chasten?
32:38But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.
32:46Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect.
32:52Shall we not much more readily be in a subjection to the father of spirits and live?
32:57For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them,
33:02but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.
33:08Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful.
33:13Nevertheless, afterward, it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
33:22And so that brings us back to exercising ourselves towards godliness,
33:26exercising ourselves in the things which we are wanting to become professional at.
33:35Professional in the fact of knowing the word of God, knowing what the Bible says, knowing the gist of it.
33:43I don't think I would ever be able to know the whole Bible, but I know what the Bible is
33:48telling me.
33:48I know where I've come from.
33:50I know where I'm going to.
33:52I know the challenges which are being directed toward me to try and make me stumble along the way.
33:58I know that I'm saved, but my father is working with me.
34:03And I think that possibly the purpose that he's working with me is for me to be able to encourage
34:08somebody else.
34:09And with all of us, so that we have the experience to say to somebody else,
34:14this is what we need to do.
34:15This is how you need to pray.
34:16This is why you should pray.
34:17That's where we're going.
34:18That's where we've come from.
34:20To have that knowledge.
34:21Peter speaks about that, and he says to us that we always need to be ready.
34:28To give an answer to those who ask us for the reason of the hope that we have in us.
34:35Are we able to do that logically and to be able to convincingly speak and tell that to the people?
34:46And so finally now in chapter 20 of Acts, verse 28.
35:03The church of God that you and I, the church, purchased with his own blood.
35:12Jesus is God.
35:15And here we have another description of God and man and Jesus being God.
35:21And he has purchased the church.
35:24The church, the body of Christ, the different members, all part of one head.
35:29All should have one mind and one spirit and one goal and one hope.
35:35May the Lord bless us as we continue exercising ourselves towards godliness as we continue our walk on this pilgrim
35:43road until the Lord eventually says,
35:45Come home, my sons.
35:47Amen.
35:48When I surveyed the wondrous cross on which the grace of glory died,
36:04My riches laid on cowardly loss and poor content on all my pride.
36:23Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
36:30Saving the death of Christ my God.
36:38All the vain things that shall be most,
36:47I sacrifice them to His blood.
36:57See from His head, His hands, His feet,
37:04Sorrow and love flow mingled down.
37:14He does such love and sorrow meet,
37:22O thorns on posts so rich a crown.
37:30Where love, O love of nature mine,
37:40That were an offering for too small,
37:49Love so amazing, so divine,
37:58Demands my soul,
38:02My life I owe.
38:08Amen.
38:09Amen.
