Saying Goodbye can bring forth many emotions. Parting can be hard to cope with, from the death of a loved one to the disciples not understanding why Jesus was leaving them. Martin Humphrey, Pastor of Brixton Tabernacle, returns with a sombre, heartfelt message on how to deal with loss.

00:00You are the universe of bliss, the centenar of our Son.
00:12Eternal theme of praises, to heaven's beloved one.
00:24Worthy, O Lamb of God at all, and every day to Him, Shabbat.
00:42Well, it's good to be with you once again tonight.
00:44Returning God's words to John's Gospel and chapter 16.
00:48So John 13 sees them gathering together in the upper room to mark the Last Supper.
00:58He speaks, Christ speaks throughout chapter 14.
01:04At the end of that chapter they leave the upper room and they walk down the hill towards the brook
01:14Kedron,
01:15which separates Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, where he goes into Gethsemane and is there arrested.
01:28John chapter 16.
01:34Jesus speaking.
01:36These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.
01:42They shall put you out of the synagogues.
01:45Yea, the time cometh that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God's service.
01:52And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father nor me.
01:58But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you
02:04of them.
02:05And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.
02:10But now I go my way to him that sent me.
02:13And none of you asketh me whither goest thou?
02:17But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
02:25Nevertheless, I tell you the truth.
02:27It is expedient for you that I go away.
02:31For if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you.
02:35But if I depart, I will send him unto you.
02:39And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.
02:49Of sin, because they believe not on me.
02:54Of righteousness, because I go to my Father and ye see me no more.
03:01Of judgment, because the Prince of this world is judged.
03:07I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
03:12Howbeit, when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth.
03:19For he shall not speak of himself, but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak.
03:26And he will show you things to come.
03:29He shall glorify me, for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you.
03:37All things that the Father hath are mine.
03:41Therefore said I that he shall take of mine, and shall show it unto you.
03:47A little while, and ye shall not see me.
03:52And again a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.
03:59Then said some of his disciples among themselves,
04:02What is this that he saith unto us?
04:04A little while, and ye shall not see me.
04:07And again a little while, and ye shall see me.
04:10And because I go to the Father.
04:12They said therefore, What is this that he saith a little while?
04:17We cannot tell what he saith.
04:20Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them,
04:26Do ye inquire among yourselves, of that I said,
04:29A little while, and ye shall not see me.
04:32And again a little while, and ye shall see me.
04:37Verily, verily, I say unto you,
04:39That ye shall weep and lament,
04:42But the world shall rejoice.
04:45And ye shall be sorrowful.
04:47But your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
04:51A woman, when she is in travail,
04:54Have sorrow, because her hour is come.
04:57But as soon as she is delivered of the child,
05:00She remembereth no more the anguish
05:02For joy that a man is born into the world.
05:06And ye now, therefore, have sorrow.
05:09But I will see you again,
05:11And your heart shall rejoice,
05:13And your joy no man taketh from you.
05:16And in that day ye shall ask me nothing.
05:20Verily, verily, I say unto you,
05:22Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name,
05:25He will give it you.
05:27Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name.
05:31Ask, and ye shall receive,
05:33That your joy may be full.
05:36These things have I spoken unto you in Proverbs.
05:39But the time cometh
05:41When I shall no more speak unto you in Proverbs,
05:43But I shall show you plainly of the Father.
05:47At that day ye shall ask in my name,
05:50And I say not unto you
05:52That I will pray the Father for you,
05:54For the Father himself loveth you,
05:56Because ye have loved me,
05:58And have believed that I came out from God.
06:02I came forth from the Father,
06:04And am come into the world.
06:07Again I leave the world,
06:08And go to the Father.
06:11His disciples said unto him,
06:13Lo, now speakest thou plainly,
06:16And speakest no proverb.
06:18Now are we sure that thou knowest all things,
06:21And needest not that any man should ask thee.
06:24By this we believe that thou camest forth from God.
06:30Jesus answered them,
06:32Do ye now believe?
06:35Behold,
06:37The hour cometh,
06:38Yea, is now come,
06:40That ye shall be scattered,
06:42Every man to his own,
06:44And shall leave me alone.
06:46And yet I am not alone,
06:48Because the Father is with me.
06:50These things I have spoken unto you,
06:53That in me ye might have peace.
06:56In the world ye shall have tribulation,
07:01But be of good cheer,
07:03I have overcome the world.
07:08May God bless his word to us each.
07:12Amen.
07:13To preach him to all,
07:15And cry in death,
07:16Behold,
07:17Behold the Lamb.
07:20Well I mentioned one of,
07:21The members of our congregation,
07:23Passed away on Monday,
07:25She passed peacefully,
07:26And,
07:27Wasn't in the,
07:28They think in the position to be,
07:30Crying out like that,
07:31But,
07:32She was actually in the hospital,
07:34Kings,
07:35Where,
07:36Many,
07:36Many years ago,
07:37John did his,
07:38Pharmacy training,
07:41So,
07:42Been visiting there recently,
07:47Parting,
07:50Parting is something which is,
07:53Often difficult isn't it?
07:56Something which is,
07:58Sad,
07:59And solemn,
08:03And that's exactly,
08:05The situation,
08:07Which we have,
08:08In these chapters,
08:11Of John's gospel,
08:14Jesus,
08:16Is going away,
08:19He is explaining to his disciples,
08:22That he is,
08:23Going away,
08:26And,
08:28They,
08:30Realise that something is up,
08:32But they're very,
08:33Very slow to actually grasp,
08:35What's going on,
08:37Aren't they?
08:42In verse 6,
08:44Of chapter 16,
08:46Jesus says,
08:47Because I have said,
08:48These things unto you,
08:50Sorrow,
08:51Hath filled your heart,
08:56Now he,
08:57Started this,
08:58Particular discourse,
09:00Back in chapter 14,
09:02And explaining to them then,
09:04And encouraging them,
09:05Didn't he,
09:05Let not your heart be troubled,
09:08Ye believe in God,
09:10Believe also,
09:12In me,
09:16We can be troubled,
09:17About all sorts of things,
09:18Can't we?
09:22We,
09:23Read,
09:25Of Martha,
09:25Cumbered about,
09:26By many things,
09:27And much serving,
09:28And,
09:29But,
09:32She needed,
09:34To set those things,
09:36To one side,
09:38And focus,
09:41On Jesus,
09:44Mary then,
09:45Had chosen that better part,
09:49We're not to be troubled,
09:51But we are,
09:52To cast,
09:53All our care,
09:55Upon him,
10:00Many things,
10:01Are troubling,
10:03The,
10:04Attitude of,
10:06So many of our leaders,
10:08And,
10:08The leaders across the world,
10:10Are very troubling,
10:14But what does Jesus say,
10:16Ye believe,
10:18In God,
10:21Who is over all,
10:23We've just sung,
10:25Jesus,
10:25The name,
10:26High over all,
10:27He is in control,
10:29And though it,
10:30Can so often seem,
10:31That things are completely,
10:32Out of control,
10:33No,
10:34They're not,
10:36He knows,
10:39And he will,
10:41Work all things,
10:43To the praise,
10:44Of his glory,
10:45However chaotic,
10:46They seem to us,
10:48And however terrible,
10:49They are,
10:49Now that's no justification,
10:50For what people do,
10:51Is it?
10:53But he is,
10:55Overall,
10:58Ye believe in God,
11:00Believe also,
11:01In me,
11:03In my father's house,
11:05Are many mansions,
11:06If it were not so,
11:07I would have told you,
11:09I go,
11:10To prepare a place for you,
11:12And if I go,
11:13And prepare a place for you,
11:14I will come again,
11:16That I may receive you,
11:17Unto myself,
11:18That where I am,
11:19There ye may be also,
11:24Because I have said,
11:26These things unto you,
11:27Sorrow,
11:27Have filled your heart,
11:29Your upset,
11:32By the fact,
11:33That I'm going away,
11:36But don't be,
11:38Because this parting,
11:40Is only going to be,
11:43Temporary,
11:45There will come a time,
11:47When I return,
11:50To bring you to myself,
11:52That where I am,
11:53There ye may be also,
11:57Now,
11:59We've been,
12:00Waiting a long time,
12:02For the fulfilment,
12:02Of those words,
12:03Haven't we?
12:05And I'm sure that,
12:06When they,
12:08Did grasp the reality,
12:10Of them,
12:10That the,
12:11Apostles and the disciples,
12:12Would have had no idea,
12:14That it would stretch to,
12:17About two thousand years,
12:20But it still remains true,
12:24He will,
12:25Come again,
12:32But there is a natural sadness,
12:35Isn't there?
12:38Even if we have,
12:39A great hope,
12:40Great assurance,
12:41Of the person,
12:43Who has passed away,
12:45We miss them,
12:48Although,
12:50It is far better,
12:51For them,
12:53If they know the Lord,
12:58The disciples,
13:01Are upset,
13:04They're concerned,
13:09And they don't understand,
13:12Really,
13:13What is happening,
13:17Jesus says,
13:18You know where I'm going,
13:19And Thomas says,
13:20We've got no idea,
13:21Where you're going,
13:22And if we don't know,
13:23Where you're going,
13:23How can we possibly,
13:24Know how to get there?
13:31I am the way,
13:33The truth,
13:35And the life,
13:37No man cometh unto the Father,
13:40But,
13:41By me,
13:43That is the way of access,
13:44And that is the way,
13:45That he is going,
13:48That preparation,
13:50It's not that he's,
13:52Some people almost speak,
13:53As though he's spring cleaning,
13:55The mansions in heaven,
13:55No,
13:56He's going to prepare the way,
13:57By going to the cross,
14:01That is,
14:02To open that door,
14:05It is his sacrifice,
14:08For sins,
14:09That enables any,
14:11To get to glory,
14:14And the power of that,
14:16Will be seen,
14:17In his resurrection,
14:20A little while,
14:22And ye see me no more,
14:24And again a little while,
14:25And ye shall see me,
14:29Both,
14:30That brief gap,
14:32Of the three days,
14:33Whilst he is in the tomb,
14:35But then of course,
14:36Looking to this,
14:37Longer time,
14:39When we wait,
14:40To see him,
14:41Again,
14:45Because where has he gone,
14:51Now,
14:52Verse five,
14:53I go my way,
14:55To him,
14:56That sent me,
14:59The one,
15:00Who sent me,
15:02To earth,
15:03Initially,
15:04Is the one,
15:06Who is now,
15:07Calling me,
15:08Back,
15:11Now,
15:12We need,
15:13To be careful,
15:14Don't we,
15:17Yes,
15:17Jesus,
15:18Came,
15:19In obedience,
15:20To his father's,
15:22Command,
15:23But that wasn't,
15:24A reluctant thing,
15:27I delight to do thy will,
15:28Oh my God,
15:30We read,
15:33And he came,
15:34Because of his,
15:36Own love,
15:37For his people,
15:38As well as,
15:39For his father,
15:42We have that,
15:43Set forth beautifully,
15:44Don't we,
15:45In the second,
15:45Chapter of Philippians,
15:48Let this mind,
15:50Be in you,
15:50Which was also,
15:51In Christ Jesus,
15:52Who,
15:53Being in the form of God,
15:55Thought it not robbery,
15:56To be equal with God,
15:58But made himself,
16:00Of no reputation,
16:02And took upon him,
16:04The form of a servant,
16:06And was made,
16:07In the likeness of men,
16:09He was already,
16:10With God,
16:11And he was God,
16:13As John puts it,
16:15That was not something,
16:16That he had to,
16:18Aspire to,
16:21But he,
16:22Resigned it,
16:25He,
16:26Handed it over,
16:28If you like,
16:32He remained God,
16:34Upon the earth,
16:38He was the God man,
16:43But he,
16:45Was not seen,
16:46For the most part,
16:47In that power,
16:48Yes,
16:48There was that time,
16:49When the,
16:51Transfiguration,
16:51When he was seen,
16:52By the disciples,
16:54In all the glory,
16:55Of his heavenly being,
16:59And in a sense,
17:00They got that glimpse,
17:01Of that,
17:02When he was,
17:04Ascended,
17:04When he ascended,
17:05Up into heaven,
17:06And a cloud,
17:08Not a,
17:08Fluffy white cloud,
17:10But the cloud of glory,
17:11The cloud,
17:11That had been,
17:12Upon the,
17:13Temple,
17:14The cloud,
17:15That had come down,
17:16At the dedication,
17:17Of the tabernacle,
17:18And the temple,
17:19The cloud that had led,
17:21The children of Israel,
17:22Through the wilderness,
17:23That cloud of fire,
17:25By night,
17:26And pillar of cloud,
17:27By day,
17:29That cloud of God's glory,
17:31The Shekinah glory,
17:32It received him,
17:34Into his glory,
17:40But for the most part,
17:43He was just,
17:45He appeared to be,
17:47Just another man,
17:49Didn't he?
17:53And yet,
17:54What a man,
17:58A man,
18:01Entitled,
18:02To,
18:03Rule over orphans,
18:07And yet,
18:09In the form of,
18:11A servant,
18:13Literally,
18:15In the form of a slave,
18:18With no rights,
18:21No position whatsoever,
18:25And then he humbled himself,
18:28Still further,
18:32And became obedient,
18:35Unto death,
18:38Even the death of the cross,
18:40The death that God had cursed,
18:45Saying cursed is anyone,
18:47That hangeth on a tree,
18:48That death,
18:51The very worst,
18:53That could be thought of,
18:55And truly one of the most painful,
18:57That could be thought of as well,
19:02But that was his love,
19:05Such was his love,
19:09Wherefore God also,
19:10Hath highly exalted him,
19:12And given him a name,
19:13That is above every name,
19:14That at the name of Jesus,
19:16Every knee should bow,
19:18Appropriate that we should just have sung that,
19:21Of things in heaven,
19:22And things in earth,
19:24And things under the earth,
19:26And that every tongue should confess,
19:28That Jesus Christ is Lord,
19:31To the glory of God the Father,
19:34But they haven't grasped that yet,
19:35Have they?
19:36The disciples are still at the stage,
19:38Where they are losing him,
19:41They know that he is going away,
19:43They know that something terrible,
19:45Is going to happen,
19:47At times they grasp that,
19:49On the way to Jerusalem,
19:50It's Thomas who says,
19:52Let us also go up with him,
19:53That we may die with him,
19:58And yet,
20:01There is this greater prospect,
20:04And it's important that we grasp that,
20:10Because I have said these things unto you,
20:15Sorrow hath filled your heart,
20:20Your life is going to be very difficult,
20:28There is going to come that great tribulation,
20:33There is going to come much persecution,
20:39You will be cast out of the synagogues,
20:42Verse 2,
20:43People will kill you,
20:45In thinking that,
20:46They are doing God's will,
20:51Well,
20:53We see that,
20:54Emphasised,
20:56Supremely,
20:57By the,
20:58To be,
20:59The Apostle Paul,
21:00Don't we?
21:02Concerning zeal,
21:04Persecuting the church,
21:06He thought that,
21:07He was doing the best that he could for God,
21:11How wrong he was,
21:12And how much he regretted that later in life,
21:18But they will do that,
21:19Because they don't know me,
21:20And they don't know the Father,
21:25But you need to know,
21:27You need to be prepared for this,
21:32There are many,
21:33Many places,
21:34Aren't there in the world,
21:36Where these things are,
21:39A daily reality,
21:42Yes,
21:43In some ways life is becoming,
21:44More difficult here,
21:46But much more so elsewhere,
21:54These things,
21:56Have I told you,
21:59That when the time shall come,
22:02Ye may remember,
22:04That I told you of them,
22:34We have the expression,
22:36They said later on in the chapter,
22:37Now we understand this,
22:38Now you're speaking plainly,
22:40They still haven't got a clue,
22:42Really,
22:42What was going on,
22:45It's so solemn,
22:46Isn't it,
22:46And yet,
22:48It's very easy to criticise,
22:51Like Barry was saying,
22:51It's easy to criticise,
22:52Our leaders,
22:53And it's easy to criticise,
22:55These people,
22:56Because,
22:58Because,
22:58We have,
23:00The rest of the story,
23:02They didn't,
23:09And although,
23:11We have so much more,
23:14We fail,
23:15Don't we,
23:17We can become,
23:20Sorrowful,
23:22We,
23:23Feel,
23:25That,
23:27Sometimes perhaps,
23:28That,
23:29God has left us,
23:34God says,
23:36To Isaiah,
23:37Doesn't he,
23:38For a little while,
23:42I left you,
23:43There was that,
23:43That apparent,
23:45Desertion,
23:48And yet eternally,
23:49I will be with you,
23:57Now Jesus here,
23:58Of course,
23:59Is not speaking of that,
24:01Spiritual presence,
24:02Of being with us,
24:05But he's speaking of that,
24:07Physical sense,
24:08Because,
24:09They,
24:09Had had that,
24:11Unique and tremendous,
24:12Privilege,
24:13Of being literally,
24:14With the Lord,
24:15For,
24:16Three years or so,
24:18Almost constantly,
24:19It seems,
24:23Now,
24:25That time,
24:26Is going to come,
24:27To an end,
24:30Because I have said,
24:32These things unto you,
24:34Sorrow,
24:35Hath filled your heart,
24:38Nevertheless,
24:40I tell you the truth,
24:43It is expedient for you,
24:47That I go away,
24:51You think that this,
24:53Is an impending disaster,
24:57But actually,
24:59This is for your good,
25:02This is for your blessing,
25:09Because,
25:11If I do not go away,
25:14The comforter,
25:16The comforter,
25:17Will not come,
25:18Unto you,
25:23The comforter,
25:26But Jesus has,
25:28But Jesus has,
25:29Already introduced,
25:30This comforter,
25:31Or more,
25:32Properly,
25:34Another,
25:35Comforter,
25:36Verse 16,
25:39Of chapter 40,
25:44Another,
25:46Comforter,
25:50Comforter,
25:51The word,
25:52Comforter,
25:54Is literally,
25:58Paraclete,
25:59Paracaleo,
26:00The one who is called,
26:01Alongside,
26:02The one,
26:03Who will come,
26:04And,
26:05Comfort us,
26:06But also,
26:07The one who will be,
26:07Our advocate,
26:09John speaks of him,
26:10But he uses the same words,
26:11In his epistle,
26:12I mean,
26:14The one who is our advocate,
26:16The one who stands on our behalf,
26:18In the court,
26:20He is alongside us,
26:26Another,
26:27Comforter,
26:30You'll remember that,
26:31Christ is so,
26:32Alongside us,
26:34That Isaiah,
26:36Had prophesied,
26:39And,
26:41Matthew,
26:42Reminds us of it,
26:43At his birth,
26:46That,
26:46He is called,
26:49Emmanuel,
26:51Which being interpreted is,
26:53God with us,
26:55This is the first,
26:57Comforter,
26:58This is the first one,
26:59Who is alongside us,
27:02But now,
27:04That Emmanuel,
27:06There's only one Emmanuel,
27:08But,
27:08That comforter,
27:09Is going to go away,
27:12But,
27:13As he goes,
27:15He will send,
27:16Another,
27:17Comforter,
27:20The second,
27:21Person,
27:22Of the trinity,
27:25He's leaving,
27:28But the third,
27:30Will come,
27:33And of course,
27:34We see that,
27:36Supremely,
27:37And,
27:38Spectacularly,
27:39On,
27:39That,
27:40Day of Pentecost,
27:41Don't we,
27:42After Jesus,
27:42Had ascended,
27:44That first,
27:45Whitsun,
27:46When he came,
27:48With that,
27:50Mighty,
27:51Rushing wind,
27:53And those,
27:53Tongues of fire,
27:54That seemed to,
27:55To light upon each of them,
27:58And those tremendous,
28:00That tremendous gift of,
28:02Tongues,
28:03So that they could speak,
28:05And,
28:05Those that heard,
28:06Could hear them,
28:07In their own tongue,
28:11That's the one,
28:12Who's going to come,
28:16But Jesus says,
28:17He will only come,
28:19If I go,
28:24And he,
28:26Will be sent,
28:27By my father,
28:30Verse 26,
28:31Of 14,
28:33The comforter,
28:34Which is the holy ghost,
28:36Whom the father,
28:37Will send in my name,
28:38He shall teach you,
28:39All things,
28:41And bring all things,
28:42To your remembrance,
28:43Whatsoever I have said,
28:45Unto you,
28:48These truths,
28:49That I have spoken,
28:50He will bring back,
28:51To your memory,
28:52Now how often do we read,
28:53Especially in John,
28:55These things understood,
28:56Not the disciples,
28:57At the first,
28:59But when he was,
29:00Received into his glory,
29:02Then they remembered,
29:03These things,
29:04And then they grasped them,
29:07Why?
29:08Because the holy spirit,
29:11Because the holy spirit,
29:40When we are,
29:41When we have,
29:42Scripture brought back,
29:43To our mind,
29:45How is that,
29:46Done?
29:47It is through,
29:48The holy spirit,
29:52And of course,
29:52There's a particular,
29:54Resonance here,
29:54Isn't it?
29:55Because,
29:56Because,
29:56Not just the words,
29:57Not just the words of Christ,
29:58But,
29:59The words from the Old Testament,
30:01They were the words,
30:02That he caused,
30:03Those holy men of old,
30:05To write down,
30:05And record,
30:07And these,
30:08Words,
30:09That John records here,
30:11And the other gospel writers,
30:13They too,
30:14Are spoken,
30:15Brought back,
30:16By,
30:17By the holy spirit,
30:18By the comforter,
30:26It is expedient for you,
30:28That I go away,
30:31For if I go not away,
30:33The comforter will not come unto you,
30:36But if I depart,
30:38I will send him unto you,
30:44We,
30:47Are so limited,
30:48Aren't we,
30:49In our understanding,
30:55It's,
30:57William Cooper,
30:58Who in that,
30:59Lovely hymn,
31:00God moves in a mysterious way,
31:03Says,
31:04Doesn't he,
31:08Blind unbelief,
31:09He's sure to err,
31:10And scan his work in vain,
31:12He is his own interpreter,
31:14And he will make it plain,
31:16The things ye so much dread,
31:18Are big with mercy,
31:19And shall break in blessings,
31:21On your head,
31:22You don't know where it's going,
31:24And you're,
31:24You're so upset,
31:26By these things,
31:29But God has them,
31:31All,
31:32Under,
31:34Control,
31:37This of course,
31:39Isn't a new thing,
31:40Is it?
31:43We think,
31:45Of the life of Joseph,
31:48Not,
31:49Jesus,
31:51Supposed father,
31:52But,
31:53Jacob's son,
31:57The terrible things,
31:58That happened to him,
32:00The great disasters,
32:03Taken,
32:03And thrown into the pit,
32:04Sold into slavery,
32:06Cast into the prison,
32:09Why has everything gone so wrong?
32:17What does Joseph have to say about it?
32:22Right at the end of Genesis,
32:26When the brothers are so scared,
32:31That now their father has died,
32:33That Joseph is going to take his revenge,
32:35And they come with this,
32:38I believe,
32:39Trumped up story,
32:41About what,
32:41Jacob has said,
32:45And,
32:47Joseph says,
32:50Fear not,
32:53From I in the place of God,
32:57As for you,
32:59Ye thought evil against me,
33:03Your plans were terrible,
33:07I mean,
33:07They were going to kill him,
33:08Weren't they?
33:09Why didn't they?
33:11Because God had other plans,
33:16Ye thought evil against me,
33:17But God meant it unto good,
33:21To bring to pass,
33:23As it is this day,
33:25To save much people alive,
33:31And we see the evidence of that,
33:33Don't we?
33:33Not just in what happened at the end,
33:35But all the way through,
33:37We have those little words,
33:38The Lord was with Joseph,
33:44The Lord was with Joseph,
33:47When things are going so badly wrong,
33:50The Lord is with Joseph,
33:55So that's alright then,
33:57We don't need to worry,
33:59Well it's easy to say that,
34:00At the end of the story,
34:01Isn't it?
34:04But,
34:05I think it's Psalm 106,
34:08Which has those,
34:09Solemn words that,
34:11While he was in the prison,
34:13And held in those fetters,
34:14The word of the Lord,
34:17Tried him,
34:18He knew those,
34:20Promises that had been,
34:22Given to him,
34:23In the dreams,
34:25And yet there was,
34:26No way that these things,
34:27Seemed to be,
34:28Coming to pass,
34:31And there he was,
34:33Languishing,
34:33And then it seems this,
34:35These dreams are given,
34:36And,
34:37Well now surely the Lord,
34:39Will take him out,
34:40And he will be released,
34:41And yet did not the baker,
34:45Remember Joseph,
34:47But forgot him,
34:51Another disaster,
34:55And years go by,
35:00Three years,
35:07But God,
35:08Is still in control,
35:17Now therefore fear ye not,
35:19I will nourish you,
35:21And your little ones,
35:22And he comforted them,
35:23And spake kindly,
35:25Unto them,
35:34And say that,
35:35Not because of the parting,
35:36But because of,
35:37God's,
35:38Leading and directing,
35:40And,
35:41Jesus here,
35:42Reminds us that,
35:44These purposes,
35:47Will be fulfilled,
35:55The coming of the comforter,
35:57Will be for the building up,
35:59Of the church,
36:01He will reprove the world,
36:03Of sin,
36:05And of righteousness,
36:08And of judgment,
36:12Of sin because they believe,
36:13Not on me,
36:14The sin of unbelief,
36:15Is a terrible sin,
36:20It's something we,
36:23Tend perhaps to gloss over,
36:26Within itself,
36:28It is effectively calling God a liar,
36:30Isn't it?
36:32And God is truth,
36:34He is the God who cannot lie,
36:38Of righteousness,
36:39Because I go to my father,
36:41And ye see me no more,
36:43Of judgment because the prince of this world,
36:45Is judged,
36:50That the spirit of truth,
36:52Will guide you,
36:54Into,
36:55All truth,
36:58He shall glorify me,
37:01For he shall receive of mine,
37:05And shall show it unto you,
37:07Therefore don't be worried,
37:09Don't be upset by these things,
37:14Trust God,
37:17Trust God,
37:18The 46th psalm,
37:19Is very wonderful,
37:20Isn't it?
37:22God is our refuge,
37:24And strength,
37:27A very present help in trouble,
37:32These people,
37:33These people are concerned,
37:34These people are concerned,
37:34Because Jesus,
37:37Who they know to be,
37:38God,
37:38Thou art the Christ,
37:39The son of the living God,
37:41Is leaving them,
37:44But that doesn't mean,
37:45That God has left them,
37:45Does it?
37:48God is,
37:49Our refuge,
37:50And strength,
37:53A very present help,
37:55He is right there with us,
37:58In trouble,
37:59In our trouble,
38:00In all kinds of trouble,
38:03Therefore will not we fear,
38:05Though the earth be removed,
38:07And though the mountains be carried,
38:08Into the midst of the sea,
38:10Though there is complete devastation,
38:11And complete destruction,
38:13We will not be afraid,
38:14Says the psalmist,
38:15Is that true?
38:19Do we trust God,
38:20To that extent?
38:25Because I have said these things,
38:26Unto you sorrow hath filled your heart,
38:30But we need to hold fast,
38:32To his promises,
38:32Don't we?
38:35And yes,
38:36It's much easier to say that,
38:37Than to do it,
38:39I'm aware of that,
38:47But God,
38:49The Lord of hosts,
38:52Is with us,
38:55The God of Jacob,
38:58Is our refuge,
39:03It's a very wonderful term that,
39:05Isn't it?
39:05The God of Jacob,
39:09We might say,
39:10It would be just as true to say,
39:11The God of Abraham,
39:13Is our refuge,
39:14Wouldn't it?
39:15Abraham,
39:16Yes,
39:17There were things that he did wrong,
39:18But for the most part,
39:19He was an outstanding example,
39:21Of faith,
39:22He obeyed the Lord,
39:23He did what the Lord,
39:24Had told him to,
39:27The God of Jacob,
39:31Jacob's not quite such a wonderful character,
39:33Is he?
39:35Jacob makes all sorts of mistakes,
39:38Yes,
39:38He has faith as well,
39:42But it's not,
39:43What we are,
39:46It's who God is,
39:48That's important,
39:51And Jacob's God,
39:53Not because,
39:55Jacob is Jacob,
39:56But because,
39:57Jacob's God,
39:58Is the God,
40:00The Lord,
40:01Is our refuge,
40:06The heathen raged,
40:08The kingdoms were moved,
40:13They're terrified,
40:15They're trembling,
40:18He uttered his voice,
40:22The earth,
40:24Melted,
40:27We have a similar idea,
40:31Don't we,
40:34Psalms,
40:34Psalms 97 and 99,
40:37The Lord reigneth,
40:38Let the earth rejoice,
40:39Let the multitude of isles,
40:40Be glad thereof,
40:4399,
40:45The Lord reigneth,
40:47Let the people tremble,
40:49He sitteth between the cherubim,
40:51Let the earth be moved,
40:53The earth is trembling,
40:55The earth is staggered,
41:02He utters his voice,
41:03The earth melts,
41:04The mountains are carried,
41:05Into the midst of the sea,
41:07But he is with us,
41:12He is a God,
41:13Who makes desolations,
41:15In the earth,
41:16Who makes wars to cease,
41:18Unto the end of the earth,
41:19He breaketh the bow,
41:20And cutteth the spear,
41:21In sunder,
41:22He burneth the chariot,
41:23In the fire,
41:25Yes,
41:25And he destroys the guns,
41:27And the bombs,
41:27And the battleships,
41:28And planes,
41:29And whatever else as well,
41:32But be still,
41:34And know,
41:36That I am God,
41:41Because I have said these things,
41:42Unto you sorrow hath filled your heart,
41:43But be still,
41:44And know that I am God,
41:49I will be exalted,
41:53Jesus said,
41:54Didn't he,
41:55And I,
41:56If I be lifted up,
41:56Will draw all men unto me,
41:58Now that,
41:59In one sense,
41:59That exaltation is different to this,
42:02But,
42:03I will be exalted among the heathen,
42:05I will be exalted in the earth,
42:08The Lord of hosts is with us,
42:11The God of Jacob is our refuge,
42:13The Lord of hosts is our refuge,
42:16It's Elah,
42:18Stop and think about that,
42:22You say,
42:22Well is that really,
42:24Relevant to this,
42:26We've gone a long way from,
42:28Jesus saying goodbye to his disciples,
42:31We haven't really,
42:31Have we?
42:32How does he end this chapter?
42:36These things have I spoken unto you,
42:38That in me ye might have peace,
42:40In the world ye shall have tribulation,
42:44But be of good cheer,
42:46I have overcome the world,
42:49I am over all these things,
42:52That God who controls them,
42:54Is me,
42:57So don't be concerned,
43:00Don't let that sorrow fill your heart,
43:04But look,
43:06Unto him,
43:09Trust,
43:10In his name,
43:13And worship God,
43:15Amen.
43:16Thou art the ever lost in word,
43:22The Father's only Son,
43:27God manifestly seal and heart,
43:32At hands below and one,
43:37Worthy, O Lamb of God,
43:42Not thou that every need to thee should bow,
43:54In the births perfectly end us,
44:00The Father's glory shine,
44:05Of the whole deity possess,
44:10Eternal and one,
44:17Worthy, O Lamb of God,
44:24That every need to thee should bow,
44:34True image of the infinite,
44:38Thou art whose essence is concealed,
44:45Brightness, O Lamb of God,
44:49Created by the heart of all redeemed,
44:57Holy, O Lamb of God,
45:02O Lamb of God,
45:05That every need to thee should bow,
45:15True image of the high mysteries of thy name,
45:21When angels crossed by the heart of all redeemed,
45:26The Father, O Lamb of God,
45:32The Father, O Lamb of God,
45:43The Father, O Lamb of God,
45:47The Father, O Lamb of God,
45:51The Father, O Lamb of God,
45:57The Father, O Lamb of God,
