00:00Come, O come, the love of David, come, and open wide our heavenly home.
00:13Make us safe the way that leads on high, and close the path to misery.
00:25Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.
00:42Good evening, it's good to be with you again.
00:46And we're going to start this evening by reading from God's Word, Mark chapter 1, verse 21.
00:53They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath day came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach.
01:03The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law.
01:14Just then, a man in their synagogue, who was possessed by an impure spirit, cried out,
01:19What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.
01:30Be quiet, Jesus said sternly. Come out of him.
01:34The impure spirit shook the man violently, and came out of him with a shriek.
01:40The people were so amazed, and they asked each other, What is this, a new teaching, and with authority?
01:49He even gives orders to impure spirits, and they obey him.
01:56News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee.
02:00As soon as they had left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew.
02:11Simon's mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her.
02:18So he went to her, took her hand, and helped her up.
02:24The fever left her, and she began to wait on them.
02:27That evening, after sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who were ill and demon-possessed.
02:38The whole town gathered at the door, and Jesus healed many who had various diseases.
02:46He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak, because they knew who he was.
02:55Would you like to take your Bibles now, please, and turn to Psalm 1 and Psalm 2, and Heather is going to come and read those psalms.
03:03Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked, or stand in the way that sinners take, or sit in the company of mockers,
03:13but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.
03:21That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season, and whose leaf does not wither.
03:32Whatever they do prospers.
03:35Not so the wicked.
03:37They are like chaff that the wind blows away.
03:41Therefore, the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
03:50For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
03:59And now Psalm 2.
04:00Why do the nations conspire, and the peoples plot in vain?
04:07The kings of the earth rise up, and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed, saying,
04:15Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.
04:20The one enthroned in heaven laughs.
04:23The Lord scoffs at them.
04:26He rebukes them in his anger, and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
04:32I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.
04:38I will proclaim the Lord's decree.
04:42He said to me,
04:43You are my son.
04:45Today I have become your father.
04:47Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.
04:55You will break them with a rod of iron.
04:58You will dash them to pieces like pottery.
05:01Therefore, you kings, be wise.
05:05Be warned, you rulers of the earth.
05:08Serve the Lord with fear, and celebrate his rule with trembling.
05:14Kiss his son, or he will be angry, and your way will lead to your destruction.
05:21For his wrath can flare up in a moment.
05:24Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
05:28It's unclear precisely when the books of Psalms were compiled into their current form.
05:36From what I've read, the most likely time seems to be around that of Ezra.
05:40But some believe that it may have been as late as the first century AD.
05:47Of course, some Psalms are much older, with names such as Moses, David, and Solomon dating them to clear times and events.
05:57Although some believe that some of the dedications to David may be of a much later period.
06:04However, some now believe that Psalm 1 was written as an introduction to the whole compilation.
06:14And others believe that Psalm 1 and Psalm 2 may at one time have been joined together.
06:21Be that as it may, we still believe that these scriptures were all written under the guidance and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
06:30Psalm 1 is considered to be a wisdom psalm.
06:35It's one of those passages which is written in very black and white language.
06:40It contrasts the person committed to the Lord with the wicked.
06:47The righteous man is described as being like a tree planted by streams of water.
06:53Consequently, it is well watered.
06:56It enables it to grow strongly.
06:58It's leaves are always fresh.
07:01They don't suffer in times of drought.
07:06And it produces its fruit in due season.
07:10This natural image, which we can readily understand and interpret,
07:15comes from taking delight in the law of the law of God, God's word, the Holy Scriptures.
07:23Such a man meditates on God's word day and night.
07:27It guides his actions.
07:30And consequently, everything he does is right.
07:33So he prospers under God's hand.
07:37In contrast, the wicked, sinners, the mockers, they are lightweights.
07:43They're like the chaff that gets blown away by the wind as the farmer threshes his wheat.
07:48Whilst we don't thresh corn and winnow it by tossing it into the breeze like they would have done in biblical times,
07:55we understand the imagery.
07:58Even our combined harvesters in the 21st century are followed across the field by a pillar of dust
08:04as the grains are mechanically collected.
08:07Verse 5 says that such people will not survive the judgment.
08:15They will not be admitted to the assembly of the righteous on the day that Christ returns.
08:22And verse 6 highlights the contrast.
08:25God watches over the righteous as they travel through life.
08:28In this way, the psalmist, the compiler of the psalms, sets out eternal truths that shape the five books of psalms.
08:46But the structure also reflects the shape of our lives, the struggles, and sadly, the failures of the earthly kings and even of God's people.
08:57Ultimately, these give way to the rule and reign of the Lord's eternal king.
09:06And that's where we come to Psalm 2.
09:08Perhaps an extension of Psalm 1, but certainly picking up the great theme of the ultimate rule of God's chosen king.
09:18And the psalm breaks down nicely into four sections.
09:21Verses 1 to 3, the rebellion of the nations.
09:25Verses 4 to 6, God's response to the nations.
09:30Verses 7 to 9, the declaration of God's intention for his king.
09:34And verses 10 to 12, God's warning to the nations.
09:41As we approach Christmas, it's appropriate to look at this psalm in terms of the first and second comings of our Lord Jesus.
09:50But let us not forget the context in which many of these psalms were written.
09:57The way that the books of psalms were subsequently shaped.
10:00Because it bears out the shape of this psalm itself.
10:04But note, too, the connection between the end of Psalm 2 and the beginning of Psalm 1.
10:12Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked.
10:18And blessed are all who take refuge in him.
10:23Both declare a blessing on the righteous.
10:26Those who reject evil.
10:27Those who seek the Lord.
10:30Here is true wisdom.
10:32It stands in strong contrast to the rebellion of the wicked.
10:39So first then, looking at verses 1 to 3, the rebellion of the nations.
10:45Psalm 2 starts with a question in two parts.
10:51As so often in Hebrew poetry, one line is echoed by the following.
10:56Why do the nations conspire?
11:01Why do they get together and fight against God and his people?
11:06But the second part of the question throws a different light on it.
11:10It's not simply, why do the people plot?
11:14No, the psalmist wonders why they plot in vain.
11:18Call it prejudice if you like, but the psalmist is pre-empting what is coming up.
11:26Developing a plan is one thing, but planning a futile venture is pointless at best and dangerous or destructive at worst.
11:36In Luke chapter 14, Jesus talks about the cost of being a disciple.
11:43In verses 25 to 26, he highlights that discipleship, being a righteous person, is sacrificial.
11:52But then he uses two examples to illustrate his point.
11:59You don't build a tower without first finding out the cost and ensuring that you have the means of completing the work.
12:08Over at Hyde Heath, when we decided to build a manse, we got the architect to give us an estimate of the cost of his designs.
12:17Would we be able to afford to build?
12:19And yes, the plan was deemed affordable.
12:24And then when the Lord gave us the planning permission, we were preparing for the building.
12:31And that's when we got a quantity surveyor to build a proper estimate of all the materials, etc., that would be needed.
12:39And his figures agreed largely with those of the architect.
12:44So we went to the next stage.
12:46We went ahead with getting the builders' estimates.
12:51And that's where we got the shock.
12:54We suddenly discovered that the cost had risen by between 30 and 50%.
12:59Building materials and skilled labour were in short supply due to the building industry getting back to work
13:08after the sharp decline caused by the financial crisis of 2008.
13:15So we had to ensure that we would be able to complete the project.
13:21We had a meeting and we concluded that we could.
13:25And so we went ahead.
13:26Had we not done that, we would have got to the stage where we would have had to have stopped the work.
13:35The building work that had been completed would have suffered damage from the weather
13:40and costs would have risen further, putting the whole project beyond us.
13:46We would have been considerably embarrassed and a laughing stock to those around us.
13:52And it's the same in verses 31 to 32.
13:58A king, a president, doesn't take his country to war without first establishing whether he has a good chance of winning.
14:06Such assessments need to be thorough, as our process was in building the mounts at Hyde Heath.
14:12A flawed assessment could leave a king embarrassed by starting a fight in which he is ultimately defeated.
14:22And I'll leave you to think of your own illustrations of that from the events of 2022.
14:30Verses 2 and 3 of this psalm continue to expand the theme of the folly of nations conspiring against God and his appointed ruler.
14:40The nations plot to break free from the rule of God.
14:46They see God's rule as enslavement, as being bound by chains like a slave.
14:52Does this not echo the first sin of Genesis chapter 3?
14:59The temptation that Adam and Eve had was to break God's command because it was restricting their freedom.
15:05Satan's deception was to distort the gracious command of the Lord that protected his creation.
15:14Rejection of God's command only led to disaster for the whole of mankind.
15:22God's commands are for our good.
15:26But having broken them, mankind comes under God's judgment.
15:30And God has given us laws to guide us and to teach us that we are sinners.
15:36Salvation only comes through the confession of our sins and trusting in the saving work of the Lord Jesus on the cross.
15:45Yet constantly throughout the Old Testament, we see rebellion against the people of God, of the nations who seek to overthrow the rule of God, against the law, against the word of God.
16:01We don't get far into the Bible before we see that the rebellion against God has taken such hold that God destroys the whole world, restarting the human race through Noah.
16:17But then pride takes hold again and the Tower of Babel is built to reach up to the heavens, seeking to reach up and become equal to God.
16:28Here again, mankind has not accurately calculated the price of building a tower.
16:36Their efforts come to nothing and result in confusion.
16:41God has frustrated their efforts by confusing their languages.
16:48Pharaoh tried to stand against God.
16:51It led to the destruction of Egypt and its wealth.
16:55They lost their slaves who took their personal wealth away with them as they left at the command of God.
17:03Sion, king of the Amorites, and Og, king of Bashan, tried to stand against God's people as they travelled to the promised land.
17:12They too had not counted the cost of standing against the people of God.
17:18They paid for their folly with the total destruction of their nations.
17:25Goliath and the Philistines thought size trumped the power of God.
17:32The giant was felled by a boy trusting in God.
17:36The army fled in fear and was pursued to destruction.
17:42And so we go on and on as the might of man is destroyed by the power of God.
17:48How can man, the creature, possibly stand against his creator?
17:56Yet in vain, mankind continues to try and defeat the Almighty.
18:01And to our detriment, we break the chains of God's gracious commands that would keep us safe.
18:08Second, then, we'll look at God's response to the nations.
18:15From heaven, God looks down on mankind.
18:18Psalm 14 and Psalm 53 tell us that the Lord looks down from the heavens on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.
18:33All have turned away.
18:35All have become corrupt.
18:37There is no one who does good.
18:39Not even one.
18:40These are the parallel psalms about the fool, the morally corrupt person, who says in his heart, there is no God.
18:52And like the wicked of Psalm 1, such people are corrupt and their deeds are vile, because they have no moral compass to guide them.
19:01They have rejected the righteous commands of a loving God, as we have said earlier.
19:08And the reaction to what God sees causes him to laugh.
19:12That may seem strange, but it is a theme that occurs a few times in the Psalms.
19:19Psalm 37, verse 13 says,
19:21But the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming.
19:26As with Psalm 2, the context is the wicked are plotting against the righteous.
19:34Again, the vanity of their rebellion can be seen in the fact that God knows their day of judgment is coming.
19:41And so, in verse 15, it says,
19:44But their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken.
19:50Their rebellion against God and his people is destroyed.
19:56In Psalm 58, David pleads to God for deliverance from his enemies.
20:01He says he has been attacked despite having done no wrong.
20:07He describes his enemies as dogs who prowl about the city at night.
20:11They think that God does not see or hear their plot.
20:16But David declares in verse 8,
20:19But you laugh at them, Lord.
20:21You scoff at all those nations.
20:23It's much the same language as we have in Psalm 2.
20:28God will triumph over his enemies and those who oppose his people.
20:34But in Psalm 52, it is the people of God who laugh.
20:39The picture is much the same, though.
20:41God brings down the enemies of his people to everlasting ruin.
20:45Verses 6 and 7
20:47It may seem strange to think of God laughing,
21:07And it may seem wrong to us that we should laugh at other people.
21:12For us, as in the context of Psalm 52,
21:16Laughter is a sign of joy,
21:18As at the relief of escaping from the oppression,
21:22The joy of justice.
21:24But when God laughs at his enemies,
21:27It is through the thought of futility of the created,
21:31Thinking that they could possibly overturn
21:33The power of their creator.
21:38Look at Psalm 2, verse 5.
21:42God's laughter turns to anger.
21:45God must and will bring justice
21:47For his persecuted people.
21:49So he rebukes his enemies.
21:52His rebuke terrifies them,
21:54Because God declares that he has placed his king
21:57On the throne.
21:59In the context of this psalm,
22:02And its setting at the beginning of this altar,
22:05The king in Zion may be a reference to David.
22:09Here was one who,
22:11As God's chosen warrior king,
22:14Would bit by bit destroy the power
22:17Of the surrounding nations of Israel.
22:20They would become subject to David,
22:23And bring him tribute.
22:24But in the context of the compilation
22:28Of the book of Psalms,
22:30Almost certainly the days of the Jewish kings
22:32Ruling in Jerusalem
22:34Were a distant memory.
22:36Their thoughts would have been
22:38For the coming Messiah,
22:40Someone who would restore
22:42The glories of the Davidic kingdom.
22:47Our thoughts are not for the sort of Messiah
22:49That was longed for it
22:51By those living at the turning of the ages
22:54As the saviour was born,
22:56And as Judah was bound
22:57By the oppression of Roman rule
22:59And the Roman puppet ruler Herod.
23:03Our thoughts go to the king
23:05Who will return to rule
23:07In righteousness and justice forever.
23:10No one will be able to overturn God's king,
23:14Just as no nation could stand before David.
23:18God's chosen king
23:19Who brought the old kingdom
23:21To its pinnacle.
23:24And so we come to the declaration
23:26Of God's intentions for his king.
23:29This section from verse 7 to verse 9
23:33Expands on verse 6.
23:36God has installed his king in Zion.
23:40But this king is no ordinary king.
23:43This is the son of God.
23:45Now, in its broadest context,
23:48This could be seen as speaking
23:49Of the Davidic kings.
23:51Kings appointed by God.
23:54In 1 Chronicles 17,
23:57David wants to build a temple
23:58To honour the Lord.
24:01But God refuses to allow him to do so.
24:04Because David has been God's warrior king.
24:08Shedding much blood
24:09As he destroyed God's enemies.
24:11The enemies of God's people.
24:13And so it is Solomon
24:15Whom God selects
24:17To build the temple.
24:20And God says to David
24:21In verses 11 to 14
24:24Of 1 Chronicles 17
24:26When your days are over
24:28And you go to be with your ancestors
24:30I will raise up your offspring
24:32To succeed you
24:34One of your own sons
24:36And I will establish his kingdom.
24:38He is the one
24:39Who will build a house for me
24:41And I will establish his throne forever.
24:44I will be his father
24:46And he will be my son.
24:48I will never take my love away from him
24:51As I took it away from your predecessor.
24:53I will set him over my house
24:56And my kingdom forever.
24:58His throne will be established forever.
25:01In this important passage
25:05There is effectively a concatenation
25:08Of Solomon and Jesus
25:10The Messiah
25:11And the returning king.
25:13This Davidic line is compressed
25:15Into one ultimate son.
25:19This decree appoints Solomon
25:20To be the one who will build a temple.
25:23But it is Jesus
25:24Who will build a house
25:26A dwelling place
25:28For the eternal God.
25:29And this is reflected in Revelation
25:32Where the picture of the new creation
25:34Of the bride and the temple
25:36Seem to merge
25:38So that it is the people of God
25:39In which he will dwell forever.
25:42They are the city of God.
25:46Clearly this passage
25:48Is not simply talking about Solomon
25:51Because Solomon does not rule
25:53Over God's house forever.
25:55But we see something similar
25:58In Ezekiel 34
25:59God is going to send a shepherd
26:02To care for his flock
26:04That has been abused
26:07By the leaders of the nation.
26:09The new shepherd
26:10Is called David.
26:14Verse 23
26:15I will place over them one shepherd
26:18My servant David
26:20And he will tend them
26:22He will tend them
26:23And be their shepherd.
26:26But actually
26:27It is the son of David
26:29The Lord Jesus.
26:32In Psalm 82 verse 6
26:34God is speaking
26:36I said
26:37You are gods
26:38You are all the sons
26:40Of the most high.
26:42And it is this verse
26:43That Jesus refers to
26:45In John chapter 10
26:46Verses 34 to 35
26:48Where he says
26:50That they are gods
26:51To whom the word
26:52Of the Lord came.
26:54Now clearly
26:54This is not everyone
26:55Who hears the word of God
26:57But only those
26:58To whom it comes
26:59As an effectual call
27:01Those who are transformed
27:03By the gospel.
27:05Such
27:05Bored again believers
27:06Disciples of the Lord Jesus
27:08Are gods
27:09Because God dwells in them
27:11By the power
27:12Of the Holy Spirit.
27:15So in their broadest
27:17Interpretation
27:17Not only are
27:18Verses 7 to 9
27:19Talking about
27:20The conquering
27:21Of the nations
27:21By David
27:22They are also
27:23Talking about
27:24The triumph of Jesus
27:25By the gospel.
27:28The rebellious nations
27:29Are conquered
27:29They are broken
27:30The gospel triumphs
27:32In the hearts
27:33And minds
27:34Of God's chosen people
27:35They are called
27:37Out of the world
27:38From the ends
27:39Of the earth
27:40To be a new creation
27:42An eternal possession
27:44For the Lord Jesus.
27:47So we come
27:49Lastly to
27:50The God's warning
27:51To the nations
27:52Psalm 2
27:55Building on the contrast
27:56Of the righteous
27:57And the wicked
27:58In Psalm 1
27:59Challenges the actions
28:02Of the nations
28:03Who
28:03In utter futility
28:05Seek to throw off
28:07The rule
28:08Of God
28:09But God laughs at them
28:11Their efforts
28:12Are doomed to failure
28:13Why?
28:14Because God
28:15Has appointed
28:16His own king
28:17To rule
28:18His own son
28:19Will conquer all
28:20None will be able
28:22To stand
28:23Against his power
28:24He will break
28:26The nations
28:26But will also
28:28Take from the nations
28:29A people for himself
28:31But God is merciful
28:34In verses 10 to 12
28:36We see a gracious
28:38Warning
28:38A call to repentance
28:40A call to act wisely
28:43As it were
28:45A call to turn
28:46To righteousness
28:47The righteousness
28:49That has been talked of
28:51In Psalm 1
28:52To be like a tree
28:54Established by the water
28:55That is solid
28:57Not disturbed
28:58By the vagaries
28:59Of the weather
29:00Or the environment
29:01Verse 11
29:04Is a call
29:05To serve the Lord
29:06This is the exact opposite
29:08Of their planned rebellion
29:10And instead of arrogance
29:12And pride
29:12Which produces rebellion
29:15They are called
29:17To celebrate
29:18The rule of God's king
29:19With trembling
29:21They are to show
29:22That the fear of the Lord
29:24A respect for his honour
29:26For his glory and power
29:27A humble respect
29:29Of his nature
29:31They are to kiss the sun
29:33God's appointed king
29:35To show him
29:36Allegiance and respect
29:38If they don't
29:40They will face his anger
29:41Despite
29:43Because
29:43Failure to honour the Lord
29:45Is tantamount
29:46To the rebellion
29:47Of verses 1 to 3
29:49Disdain for God's
29:52Chosen and appointed king
29:53Would lead to the destruction
29:56Of being blown away
29:58Like chaff
29:59The wrath of God
30:01Can descend in a moment
30:03And this is not
30:04Simply a reminder
30:06That the return
30:07Of the Lord
30:08Will be sudden
30:09And unexpected
30:10That he will come
30:11Like a thief
30:12In the night
30:13No
30:13Judgment from God
30:15Can fall on anyone
30:16At any time
30:18It is an interesting study
30:20To look
30:21Through
30:23And reflect on those
30:24That the Bible says
30:26That God killed
30:27Two examples
30:28Nadab and Abihu
30:30Offered unauthorised fire
30:32To the Lord
30:33In Leviticus
30:34Chapter 10
30:36Immediately
30:37Fire came out
30:38From the presence
30:39Of the Lord
30:40And consumed them
30:41And they died
30:42Before the Lord
30:43And in the New Testament
30:46Acts chapter 10
30:47Herod failed
30:49To give praise
30:50To God
30:50So an angel
30:51Of the Lord
30:52Struck him down
30:53And he was eaten
30:54By worms
30:55And died
30:56None of us know
30:59Whether we will live
31:00To see the return
31:01Of the Lord
31:01Or whether we will
31:02Die before that
31:03The return of Christ
31:06Is described
31:06In 1 Corinthians 15
31:08As happening
31:09In a flash
31:10In the twinkling
31:11Of an eye
31:12At the last trumpet
31:13And none of us
31:15Can be precisely sure
31:16When we will die
31:18Therefore the warning
31:19Is to honour
31:20The king
31:21His son
31:22While we have
31:23The opportunity
31:24Before his wrath
31:26Flares up
31:27And so we come again
31:30At the end of the psalm
31:31To wisdom
31:32Blessed are all
31:35Who take refuge
31:36In him
31:37Psalm 2
31:41Is a messianic psalm
31:42It is a call
31:44To recognise
31:44That God
31:46Has appointed
31:46His king
31:47It is written
31:48As a prophecy
31:49God's king
31:51Would come
31:52And rule
31:52In power
31:53And that's why
31:54Jesus came
31:55At the first Christmas
31:56He came
31:57To establish
31:58His kingdom
31:59Through his suffering
32:00Without which
32:01All of us
32:02Would not survive
32:04The wrath
32:05Of God
32:06Against our rebellion
32:07Redemption
32:08Came through
32:09The suffering
32:10Of the Lord Jesus
32:11But redemption
32:13Will not be
32:13Fully realised
32:14Until the Lord
32:16Returns
32:17In triumph
32:18And we are
32:19With him
32:19Forever
32:20As we look
32:22At society
32:22Around us
32:23We recognise
32:24That the rebellion
32:26Against the Lord
32:27Continues
32:28We praise God
32:30For those
32:30Who are seeking
32:31To overturn
32:32The assisted suicide
32:33Bills
32:34And the extension
32:35To the abortion laws
32:36These proposals
32:38Are a direct attack
32:40On the principle
32:41That God
32:42Is the giver
32:43Of life
32:44Overseas
32:46We see
32:46Nation after
32:47Nation
32:47Where God's
32:48People
32:48Are persecuted
32:50For belief
32:51In the rule
32:52And the reign
32:53Of the Lord
32:54Jesus
32:54None
32:56None who fight
32:57Against the rule
32:58Of the Lord
32:58Will escape
33:00His wrath
33:00Because God
33:01Is just
33:02He will right
33:04The wrongs
33:04That have been
33:05Perpetrated
33:06Against his people
33:07In this world
33:08He will rule
33:10With a rod
33:10Of iron
33:11And dash
33:12His enemies
33:12To pieces
33:13Like pottery
33:15But the day
33:17Of grace
33:17Still continues
33:19There is still
33:20Time to repent
33:21To kiss
33:22The son
33:23To show him
33:24Honour and respect
33:25And that is
33:26What we must do
33:27And if you have
33:28Not already done
33:29So you must
33:30Do it now
33:30But if you have
33:33We too need
33:35To kiss the son
33:36And honour him
33:37With our service
33:38We must stand
33:40Firm against
33:41The evil
33:42That seeks
33:43To destroy
33:43Our society
33:44And God's people
33:46But we are also
33:48Called to be
33:49Faithful witnesses
33:49To those
33:50Around about us
33:51Too
33:51As it says
33:53In verse 11
33:54Serve the Lord
33:55With fear
33:56And celebrate
33:57His rule
33:58With trembling
33:59This is not
34:01An optional extra
34:02We need
34:04To be
34:04Those who
34:05Meditate
34:06On his law
34:07Day and night
34:08But simply
34:10Meditating
34:11On his law
34:11Is of no value
34:14If we do not
34:15Apply what we read
34:16We cannot
34:18Delight in
34:18God's law
34:19And in his king
34:20If we ignore
34:22His instructions
34:23And commands
34:24Such failure
34:25Is effectively
34:27A rebellion
34:27Against the
34:28Instructions
34:29And commands
34:30The Lord
34:30Has given us
34:31And therefore
34:32We must seek
34:33To obey
34:34God's word
34:34In all things
34:36Day by day
34:37Be wise
34:39Like the righteous
34:41Man
34:41Who is like a tree
34:42Planted
34:43By the water
34:45We'll turn to
34:47Our hymn book
34:47Again we'll sing
34:48Our last hymn
34:49A hymn that
34:51Reminds us of
34:51The coming of
34:52The Lord Jesus
34:53That we'll be
34:53Celebrating in a
34:54Few weeks time
34:55O come
34:56O come
34:56Emmanuel
34:57And ransom
34:58Captive Israel
34:59That mourns
35:00In lowly exile
35:01Here
35:02Until the
35:03Son of God
35:03Appears
35:04But it's also
35:05A reminder too
35:06Isn't it
35:06To us
35:07That the
35:08Key of David
35:09Will one day
35:10Come
35:11And open
35:11Wide
35:12The heavenly
35:13Home
35:13And take
35:14His people
35:15To be with
35:16Him forever
35:16O come
35:18O come
35:19Emmanuel
35:22And ransom
35:24Captive
35:25Israel
35:28The
35:30Mourns in
35:31Lonely
35:32Heirs
35:33Are
35:34Here
35:35Until
35:36The
35:37Son of
35:38God
35:40Appear
35:41Rejoice
35:44Rejoice
35:46Emmanuel
35:48Shall come
35:50To thee
35:51O Israel
35:54O come
35:57O come
35:57O come
