00:01Welcome to Path of Exile 2.
00:03We'd like to start off by showing some of the gameplay of Act 3,
00:06one of the six acts in Pee-Wee 2's campaign.
00:09We're starting here in the Jungle Depths.
00:12Act 3 is set in the ruins of the Vile Civilization,
00:14which fell thousands of years ago.
00:16Jungle has taken over their former once great cities,
00:19and we'll be exploring it using one of our six new character classes, called the Monk.
00:22In Pee-Wee 1 we had one character class for each of the combinations
00:25of Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence.
00:28When looking at the design of Pee-Wee 2 though,
00:30we realized that many of the new skills that we were trying to design
00:32just didn't really fit thematically with the existing classes that we have.
00:36Being a spellcaster with a bear form makes sense for Strength Int,
00:39but it doesn't really sound like something that a Templar would do.
00:41We realized that since we had new mechanics for every attribute combination,
00:45it actually made sense to design new character classes,
00:47where you explore the new themes.
00:49In Pee-Wee 2, every attribute combination has two classes associated with it.
00:53Strength Int has the Templar or the Druid,
00:54on Dexterity you have the Ranger or the more spare-focused Huntress,
00:58and on Dex Int you have the Shadow and the Monk, which Mark is playing here.
01:01Each class has its own three ascendancies that you further specialize to the class
01:05in the way that only that class has access to,
01:07but they both start at the same location in the passive tree.
01:10The quest rewards you're offered on the two variants are tailed to the class,
01:12but of course, this is Pee-Wee.
01:14You can still mix and match anything to your heart's content.
01:21Looks like we've come across the boss for this area.
01:24In Pee-Wee 2, every area of the campaign contains a boss of at least this difficulty.
01:28That's over 100 bosses to fight as you make your way through the campaign,
01:31and they all have unique mechanics to learn.
01:50As you've seen from watching Mark fighting,
01:52the melee combat in Pee-Wee 2 has a very different feel than before.
01:55We've done a lot of things to add mobility to combat.
01:58Practically every melee skill in Pee-Wee 2 has some kind of movement built into it.
02:02The Monk in particular is a melee fighter who specializes in mobility over brute strength.
02:53So, as Mark has been playing, you might have noticed these blue markers over enemies.
02:57Mark has a skill equipped called Killing Palm.
03:00Whenever an enemy has a blue indicator over it,
03:02it means that the monster is low enough life to cull with Killing Palm.
03:05Successfully executing the cull will give you a power charge.
03:08This is an important skill for the Monk, since many of his skills interact with power charges.
03:13One of the great things about this skill is that it has a built-in dash fort,
03:16and makes it much easier to target the skill at the right point when you need it.
03:20We've done a lot of work in Pee-Wee 2 to make using skills like this feel satisfying.
03:24If you're accidentally targeting slightly off the monster, the skill will automatically lock on to the cullable target,
03:29and will even do a small amount of pathfinding around obstacles.
03:32We really want to make sure that when you've got an opportunity to use the skill,
03:35nothing is going to get in your way.
03:39Once you have some power charges, you need some skills to power up.
03:42A great follow-up is Falling Thunder.
03:44Falling Thunder without a power charge just creates a relatively small lightning AOE in front of you.
03:49But do it with some power charges, and it turns into a pack clear-up with a large number of
03:52extra projectiles.
03:54One thing you'll notice here is that like almost every melee skill in Pee-Wee 2,
03:58Falling Thunder has a bit of extra movement built in just in case you need it.
04:01Using the skill within range, and you'll do a flip in place.
04:04But use it at a larger range, and your character will move forward while executing it,
04:07getting you into position without any time penalty.
04:16In Pee-Wee 2, you also get a short period to redirect your target.
04:19Notice how you can start the skill facing one way,
04:21then whip the mouse sideways to land the skill in a different direction?
04:24In order to get power charges, you're going to first need to get some lower life monsters into a colourable
04:29range.
04:29You've got a few options.
04:31If you want to charge right in, Whirling Assault is a good option.
04:34It doesn't do much damage per hit, but it covers a lot of ground.
04:37Notice how you can turn as you do it?
04:40Generally speaking, you never lose control of your character in Pee-Wee 2.
04:43If you make a turn at the right time, you can get a couple of extra hits in on the
04:46monsters,
04:46getting them into range of your cull.
04:48Follow up with a killing palm, then finish off the rest of the pack with your Falling Thunder.
05:03We've now entered the Vaal Mechanarium.
05:05This is the place where the Vaal built the various constructs they relied on to power their civilization.
05:10Now this is a find! A Vaal ruin that hasn't been looted?
05:15I wonder why nobody's been in here before.
05:18One useful feature that we've added is the ability to call in NPCs to where you are,
05:22to give you more information, help you with quest objectives,
05:24and so that you don't have to always go back to town.
05:26In this case, we'll call on Alva to find out what to do.
05:30This mechanism...
05:31If powered with a small soul core, it could open that door.
05:35There should definitely be soul cores somewhere around here.
05:38They had to power these constructs somehow.
05:42As Alva said, we need to find a soul core to open this door.
05:45Let's explore.
05:46Stay back!
05:47If you want to shave off some life without getting too close to some of the more dangerous monsters,
05:50a good option is Wind Blast.
05:52Wind Blast also doesn't do too much damage, but it keeps the enemies back.
05:56The closer they are, the farther they're pushed back.
05:58So it's a great option for keeping smaller, but high damage enemies at bay.
06:01Note that the bigger the enemy is, the less they'll be pushed back.
06:04So trying to push back some giants isn't going to be effective.
06:08And there's the soul core.
06:10Let's get back to the door.
06:29Your fate is sealed!
06:50If you need to defeat tougher enemies, it might be time to break out some of the ice skills in
06:54the monk's arsenal.
06:55Glacial Cascade creates a wave of ice that moves slowly in front of the player.
06:59It's pretty ineffective against fast moving monsters because most of the damage occurs right at the end of the wave.
07:03And so a lot of monsters will just walk right by it.
07:06But if you can find a way to make a monster stop at just the right place, it can be
07:09very effective.
07:11In order to do that, you probably want to freeze monsters.
07:14The monk has a few different tools to do this.
07:16A fairly simple option is to get right in the monster's face with Ice Strike.
07:20Ice Strike doesn't do too much damage on the first two hits, but attack three times in sequence and you
07:24can get off a combo that has a much higher chance to freeze.
07:27Get in there with that freeze, then roll back and finish the job with a Glacial Cascade.
07:32Now, remember how Glacial Cascade had that extra damaging spike at the end?
07:35If you've hit a frozen enemy with that spike, it shatters the ice on the enemy and does a devastating
07:39amount of damage.
07:44Oh yeah, I just casually mentioned rolling back before.
07:47Did I forget to mention that in Peewee 2 we added a dodge roll to every character?
07:50Just press space bar at any time to roll. There's no cooldown, no limitations.
07:55It even has a bit of built-in pathfinding so you don't get stuck on things.
07:58When you dodge roll, you're not invulnerable. If something hits you, you're going to feel it, but most things will
08:03not hit you.
08:04That's because while rolling, projectiles and melee strikes will always miss.
08:08You'll have to roll out of the way of a slam that has AoE, but anyone swinging a sword or
08:12throwing a fireball is going to miss.
08:14Now, another really important function of the dodge roll is that it lets you cancel out of almost any skill
08:18at any time.
08:19This makes it so you don't feel like you're getting stuck doing a long animation when something's about to hit
08:23you.
08:24It really changes how skills with longer attack and cast times play, and it makes dodge roll feel like a
08:28very reliable way to avoid attacks.
08:31So, that's one way to get out of the way of damage, but the monk specializes in mobility, so it
08:36makes sense that he would have a few more.
08:38Wave of Frost is one of our new attacks with a retreat built right in.
08:42You move backwards and throw out a cold attack with a significant freeze.
08:45The great thing about this is it puts you at a good distance to follow up with Glacial Cascade and
08:49do a whole pile of damage.
08:51Hey look, another Soulcore!
09:00Another skill you can use to get some extra freeze is Shattering Palm.
09:03Shattering Palm is another palm strike that puts a small ice bomb on your target.
09:07Kill or deal enough damage to the target and the bomb will explode, doing some damage and a significant freeze.
09:12There's a great option against bosses, where the wave of ice might not be enough to get that freeze off.
09:16But you really want to get that Glacial Cascade damage burn.
09:19Get back!
09:35Face your demise!
09:37The final skill we're going to show you today is Flicker Strike.
09:40It's a monk skill now, and another skill that consumes power charges.
09:43If you've played PeeWee 1, you know what to expect.
09:49It's a great finisher for tough boss fights, and it looks pretty impressive too.
09:55Very short of mines.
10:03Hmm, another door.
10:05I wonder what could be in there.
10:07I wonder what could be in there.
10:30In order to take down this boss, we're going to need all the tools in the monk's arsenal, especially the
10:35combo of Freeze and Glacial Cascade.
10:37If you're a PeeWee 1 player, you might think that you can't really rely on Freeze because there's so many
10:40bosses that are immune to it, but in PeeWee 2, that's changing significantly.
10:44In PeeWee 1, Freeze is a binary mechanic, and attack freezes the target, or it doesn't.
10:49What this basically means is that in PeeWee 1, you were forced to add Freeze immunity to many bosses, because
10:54Freeze just trivialized them.
10:56Because of that, freezing was something you only really used while pack clearing, and not something you could rely on
11:00as a core part of your build for boss fight.
11:03In PeeWee 2 though, all crowd control mechanics now have internal meters that allow you to build up to a
11:08freeze or stun, or whatever other CC mechanic you might be using.
11:11It's a little bit like poise from games like Elden Ring, though the meters tend to be a lot smaller
11:15than those games.
11:16When you freeze an enemy, it increases the amount of freeze you need to do another freeze, but the increased
11:21difficulty bleeds away slowly.
11:23More freeze will always let you freeze the boss more often, but this system means it will not get out
11:27of control in party play or interact badly with other CC mechanics, allowing us to let these kinds of mechanics
11:32actually work against all bosses.
11:35TASTE FAY.
12:00TASTE FAY.
12:06Test flight!
12:11Death come!
12:22Pulling pens!
12:40Grazie a tutti.
13:03Blackjaw has dropped a consumable quest item, the Flame Core. It's a permanent plus 10 to Spirit.
13:10In Pee-Wee 2, we really want to make sure that you feel rewarded for exploration.
13:14It wouldn't be much good if we made all these awesome optional bosses if we didn't have something great to
13:18find for killing them.
13:19One of the things you might find for killing a boss is a permanent stat bonus to your character.
13:39Your fate is sealed!
13:49The Flame Core. It's a permanent stat bonus to your character.
14:17Death becomes...
14:19Death becomes...
14:21Death becomes...
14:27Death becomes...
14:31Death becomes...
14:34Death becomes...
14:38Death becomes...
14:41Death becomes...
14:42Death becomes...
14:44Death becomes...
14:46Death becomes...
14:47Death becomes...
14:52In order to help us with this next area, we're going to call in a Sorceress.
14:55Mark's friend Octavian is going to send a friendvite, which we're going to accept.
14:59And then they can play together.
15:04The Sorceress is the new Intelligence-focused character in PoE 2.
15:07While the Witch focuses more on occult magic and summoning,
15:10the Sorceress is themed around pure elemental destruction.
15:13Let's have a look at how she plays.
15:19Oh, and look where it got them. Dead and buried.
15:24This is the largest soul core I've ever seen.
15:28With this, we could power the canal systems.
15:32But it isn't charged.
15:36There is still latent energy in this machinarium from its ancient operation.
15:40These lines in the stonework should lead to generators.
15:45You might need to find some more soul cores to spin them up,
15:48but everything looks to be in surprisingly decent condition.
15:52Maybe the golems have been maintaining it.
15:56In any case, it should still function.
15:58We'll have to remove that large core from the wall, of course.
16:02But that shouldn't be a problem.
16:05We have some skills here that you'll probably recognise if you've played PoE 1 before,
16:09but they feel a bit different to play now.
16:11Spark is great in these tight passages, and it bounces around.
16:14We've added a pierced support gem to really allow it to hit an entire room of targets.
16:19For a more single-target focus skill, ARK is a good choice.
16:22It does more damage to the first target you hit.
16:29Now, if you find yourself surrounded, it might be good to use Ice Nova.
16:32It hits all enemies around you and slows them down with chill.
16:36Just be careful.
16:36Getting up close and personal isn't the ideal place for a sorceress to be.
16:40He doesn't have the defences of a more melee-oriented character.
16:43If you want to help with the sorceress's weak melee defences, though,
16:46you could use Arctic Armor.
16:48And here we too, Arctic Armor is a buff that builds up as you stand still.
16:51You can see the ice crystals forming around the character.
16:56They'll drop off if you walk.
16:58When monsters hit you, they take cold damage and build up to a freeze.
17:02So it's a great defence.
17:04Just be careful.
17:05You have to be standing still for a little while to get the full effect.
17:07So trying to stutter step isn't the best strategy.
17:10Now, Arctic Armor is an ongoing buff.
17:12But did you notice it didn't reserve any mana?
17:14How does that work?
17:16Well, we were pretty sick of the fact that in Peewee 1,
17:18basically every character was playing with no mana pool.
17:20So we decided to change the way that reservation works.
17:23There's a new resource in Peewee 2 called Spirit.
17:26Spirit is a dedicated resource you can use for ongoing effects,
17:29like Arctic Armor, Heralds, Auras, or even Minions.
17:32Everyone starts with 100 Spirit, which is enough for most ongoing effects.
17:36But if you want more than one effect, you're going to need some more Spirit.
17:39Spirit is available on mods from items and on the passive tree.
17:42But if you're willing to give up your offhand slot,
17:45the easiest way to get it is by holding a scepter.
17:53Now, if you want to increase the cold damage you're dealing,
17:55you can use a Frost Bomb.
17:56It places a bomb on the ground that reduces the enemy's cold resistance
18:00while it's ticking down.
18:01It's a great opportunity to use some cold skills before it explodes.
18:05And speaking of cold skills,
18:07a great skill to use on monsters with the slower cold resistance is Comet.
18:10This is a new skill in Peewee 2,
18:12and it hits pretty damn hard.
18:14It costs a lot of mana and has a really long cast time,
18:17but it's worth the wait.
18:18It does a devastating amount of damage.
18:20To help get you out of danger,
18:21your character moves back slightly as it casts.
18:24It's pretty hard to hit a fast-moving opponent,
18:26but it's great on tougher enemies that stand still,
18:28or even a larger pack if you're further away
18:30and predict where they're going to move.
18:33Now, if you run into mana casting too many of those,
18:35I guess in an emergency you could cast your free-to-cast Fireball.
18:39Where did that come from, you ask?
18:41Well, this is a great opportunity to explain the way
18:43we've changed caster weapons in Peewee 2.
18:46Now, in Peewee 1,
18:47caster weapons had a default melee attack that nobody used,
18:50and because they had that,
18:51they also had a bunch of attack mods
18:52that would spawn on them that were useless to a caster.
18:55In Peewee 2, we wanted to clean that up.
18:57So now each staff comes with a built-in free-to-cast spell.
19:00Just put it on and spam to your heart's content.
19:03Now, this particular staff is the base type
19:05that you get right on the starting beach,
19:07and it's quite likely that you're going to outgrow it.
19:09so that's why we have a lot of staves
19:11with more utility-focused powers for casters to use.
19:14Here we have a crystal staff.
19:16It's got a pretty cool built-in spell called Unleash.
19:20Using it slams your staff on the ground
19:21and will allow you to triple cast whatever you cast with your next spell.
19:25Now, of course, you're probably going to want to use that with something powerful,
19:28and Comet is a great option.
19:30You'll notice that Unleash is one of the few skills in Peewee 2 with a cooldown.
19:35In general, we really try to avoid using cooldowns
19:37because we really hate the feeling that combat is just waiting to be able to use your next skill.
19:41But it does make sense for Unleash, since it's free to cast,
19:44and it's something we want you to be using situationally anyway.
19:48Now, if you're facing something tough, you might want to try out Mana Tempest.
19:52Mana Tempest creates a circle of power in which your character literally hovers over the ground.
19:56While in the circle, your mana drains, but it powers up all of your spells.
20:00Lightning projectiles fork, beams chain further, and you'll also do a lot more damage.
20:37So with all of these skills, here's a great combo to try.
20:40First, cast Frostbomb to reduce the target's cold resistance.
20:43Then use Mana Tempest to increase your damage.
20:45Follow up with Unleash, and then triple cast the Comet to do a truly insane amount of damage.
21:06This rare monster dropped an uncut gem.
21:09This is a good opportunity to talk about how skill gems drop in Peewee 2.
21:12Instead of dropping specific gems, you can find uncut gems.
21:16Just right-click on them and pick whatever skill you want.
21:19The gem will come pre-leveled to the level of the area that dropped it,
21:22so it's a lot easier to change between skills in Peewee 2.
21:25This time, I think it might be cool to grab one of our meta gems.
21:28Meta gems are skills that can have other skills socketed into them, changing how they work.
21:33In this case, we're going to select Cast on Shock.
21:36Now, let's equip this thing in the skill screen and choose a spell to trigger with it, but I think
21:40Comet might be fun.
21:41Because Cast on Shock reserves spirit, we'll need to first disable our arctic armor.
21:45We have to decide if we'd rather have the extra defense or the extra offense of the Cast on Shock
21:50using our spirit.
21:52In Peewee 2, trigger gems use a system of filling up cast time on each trigger.
21:56Basically, if a skill has a short cast time, then we'll trigger it really often.
22:00If it's got a long cast time, like this Comet here, it will take a lot longer to trigger.
22:04You can see up the top left, there's a counter that says how far it is until we're next to
22:08trigger.
22:10And there you are.
22:11Using Cast on Shock, we'll automatically cast Comet whenever we're using our lightning skill.
22:26So we've found the generator.
22:27Time to power it up.
22:42As power is restored to the Mechanarium, all the Constructs are coming back to life.
22:46We'll need to fight them on the way back to the charged Soul Court.
22:50One thing that Peewee 1 players might have noticed is that this character has both ice and lightning spells.
22:55That's pretty inefficient, isn't it?
22:56It's a big no-no for most builds, because any specialization into cold or lightning isn't going to affect the
23:02other element.
23:02And generic elemental damage increases are not going to be as powerful as focusing on a single element.
23:07Well, in Peewee 2, we have another major new system to introduce to solve these kinds of problems.
23:12And it starts with weapon swap.
23:14Now, in Peewee 1, weapon swap isn't really used much for its originally intended use case.
23:18We imagined that people were going to be swapping in and out between different weapons to deal with whatever situation
23:23they were in.
23:24People just don't do that at all.
23:25And a large reason for that is because it's really awkward to do.
23:29In Peewee 2, we wanted to solve that.
23:30The staff Octavian is using here has an ice mod on it that makes it great for when he's using
23:34his ice spells.
23:35We would also like to be able to make sure that the build works just as well for his lightning
23:39spells.
23:40If Octavian equips his previous staff in his second weapon set, you can see that it appears on the character's
23:45back.
23:46Now we're going to open up the skills screen.
23:47If Octavian opens up the skill options for his lightning skills, you can see here that you can choose which
23:53weapon sets are usable with each skill.
23:55First, we uncheck set 1 from being used by his lightning skills.
23:58Then we go through the cold skills and turn those off with his lightning weapon.
24:08Now, when we use Spark, the character will automatically switch to the lightning staff on his back and then use
24:13the skill.
24:14When Octavian uses Ice Nova, his character automatically switches over to his ice staff before using it.
24:19Figure each skill for which set to use, or both if you don't mind which.
24:23There's a very short time penalty to switching, so it can be good to leave some skills on both sets,
24:27if it doesn't matter which weapon set you're using.
24:30But, we still have the problem of passives.
24:32Wouldn't it be nice if we could specialise in both cold and lightning passives on the character?
24:35Well, in PeeWee 2, you can.
24:37We're on the passive skill screen here, and you can see that we're close to both a cold and a
24:41lightning cluster.
24:42At the top right of the screen, you can see where we have some weapon set specific points to allocate.
24:46If Octavian holds Shift, he can allocate set 1 to the cold passives.
24:51And then allocate set 2 to the lightning passives.
24:57Now, check this out.
24:58As we weapon swap, our passive tree changes from one build to the other automatically.
25:03Whenever we cast the appropriate spell, the character's passives reconfigure on the fly to the correct build for that spell.
25:09Now, you can't do this with every passive on your tree.
25:12Only points granted from skill books will allow this kind of dual specialisation.
25:15So, you can't change from a mace-slamming warrior into a fire elementalist with a press of a button.
25:20But it certainly increases the number of options you have for builds.
25:24There's a huge number of places where the system can shine.
25:26You could augment your dagger shadow build with traps.
25:29Or have a great curse setup on your witch in one spec, and then move to your chaos debuff spells
25:33with the other.
25:33It really opens up your options.
25:44Another fun meta gem to try out is called Barrier Invocation.
25:47This works a little bit like the trigger gem I talked about before, but this one charges up as your
25:51energy shield is hit by monsters.
25:53I think we might like to put an ice nova in this one.
25:55The more energy shield you lose, the more charge builds up until the point where you're able to cast the
26:00skill you socketed instantly.
26:05Lose some energy shield, and then at just the right time invoke ice nova to cast all the stacked up
26:10versions in one cast.
26:14If you keep losing shield, you'll build up even more charge for even more casts, so it's a great defensive
26:19option in an emergency.
26:54And here we are, back at the charged Solcore.
26:56All we have to do now is take it.
26:58How high could that be?
27:02Oh, oh dear.
27:04Uh, now we just have to remove it from that construct.
27:07I'll, uh, give that to you.
27:12Get back!
27:37Death comes!
27:38Grazie a tutti.
28:14Grazie a tutti.
28:55Grazie a tutti.
29:17Grazie a tutti.
29:26Grazie a tutti.
