00:00So now the latest one, and by the way, so far on all these things,
00:04they've been pretty accurate with, except Devon A. Chan is still here.
00:08Jordan Brooks is saying the Dallas Cowboys could be,
00:11now this is the latest one,
00:13that Dallas Cowboys are interested in trading for Jordan Brooks,
00:17who's a tackling machine and coming off a great year
00:21where he led the National Football League in tackles.
00:24What do you need to make that deal if you're the Dolphins?
00:28What, because you kind of got blown away by, I mean, the Waddle deal,
00:34they put plenty on the table to the point you had to say, yes, okay,
00:38I'll take that deal.
00:39There's probably a point there for Jordan Brooks too, right?
00:41So there is definitely, I hate it too, because I really like him as a player.
00:46Who doesn't like him?
00:49I hope they keep him.
00:51I want to start with that.
00:52I've been very good on I hope they keep him lately,
00:54that some of those guys are going.
00:56But you just, I don't, I'm big on first three round guys.
01:02I've always been first three, top 90 to 100 picks in the draft.
01:08But the extra sixes and sevens, they just, I don't know, you feel the same way.
01:15Don't like.
01:15Well, you're not going to get a six or seven.
01:17That's not going to swing it for Jordan Brooks.
01:19No, no, no.
01:20So I wanted to start with that, yes.
01:21But if I got a third round pick and they maybe swapped Dallas as two first round picks,
01:30I believe there are two first round picks, and they wanted to give us one of their higher
01:34picks and move with us from 30 and took our 30th pick and we took their 20th pick or something
01:41like that where you're moving up slots, maybe.
01:45But I'm not just giving this guy away.
01:48Not only is he, he's got really good leadership and he's really good for the young guys.
01:54Some of these young guys are going to need somebody to kind of look at during a game.
01:58It's like, what are we doing?
01:59What's the adjustment we're making?
02:01They're going to be looking to Jeff Halfley, I think, if they trade Jordan Brooks, because
02:06they're not going to be, well, Zach Seeler for the defensive lineman will be, assuming
02:11he's still there.
02:12But how important was he to last year's team?
02:15Well, for the three rookie defensive tackles, he was very important.
02:19He was playing with young guys the whole year.
02:20Yeah.
02:21And he kept saying, every time I'd see him, he goes, they're going to get better.
02:24We're getting this figured out.
02:25I'm going to play better as they play better.
02:28And sure enough, second half of the year, Zach played really well.
02:34And so did a lot of those guys started, those three defensive tackles started playing better.
02:41You have to have some of those guys on the team is my point.
02:44Or do you?
02:45That's the question with the Jordan Brooks trade, right?
02:48Do you just completely tear it all the way down to the studs and start all over?
02:54And I, I, I always feel like people may disagree in this, this may, it's nice to have a veteran
03:02guy when you're going, you're going to go through a funk as a rookie.
03:05I don't care how good you are as a rookie.
03:08You're going to go through a down period.
03:10And when you do, I'm sorry, but coaches are, they coach you and they can help you some,
03:18but guys that are living it out there with you and, and, and I, it is a little different.
03:24And when you have one of those guys that you can lean on and he go, Hey, what you're going
03:31through, I went through, it's normal.
03:34You can't let it bother you do this and do that.
03:37And you, and you'll notice a difference.
03:39So the guy can tell you, Hey, I've been through it.
03:41And then he can correct you right there.
03:43Like, Hey, you don't need to do it this way.
03:45Do it this way.
03:46It'll make sense.
03:47We'll get the call to you earlier.
03:49All those things.
03:51I mean, it makes sense.
03:54Okay.
03:54I know you're not a big leadership guy.
03:56I know.
03:57No, I, I, I teams have leaders, but you know what?
04:01Usually your best players are your leaders.
04:04Okay.
04:04So get some best players.
04:06Yeah.
04:06But, but, but, but you, but you got to have some best players that have some experience.
04:09Here's what I think.
04:10I think leadership is an over discussed topic in the media.
04:15Okay.
04:15I, I think we talk about leaders just because it's something, every question, every question
04:21to players.
04:22Oh, are you going to be a leader?
04:24It's like, come on.
04:26That happens organically inside a team.
04:28I was hoping you were going to say Mike McDaniel overdosed us on leadership.
04:32Well, the last year, all the coaches.
04:35No, no, no, no.
04:36Mike took it to a different level.
04:37I think we had like 20 guys were on the leadership council and like leadership council.
04:42Once you guys go out and play better, like two is on there.
04:45Hey, two, instead of just telling us what the leadership council, why didn't your ass
04:49get down there and play better in the game?
04:51And then that will help us.
04:52Well, that was the weird thing about the, the, the leadership of that team tool was correcting
04:56people when he was the number one problem.
04:59Yeah.
04:59Yeah.
04:59I mean, the number one salary was the number one problem on that team and that it can't
05:04work that way.
05:04They won four games, they won four games in a row.
05:08And by far the biggest problem or area was the quarterback, which was him.
05:14He didn't play well during those games and they were winning, which is why we're talking.
05:19Does Jordan Brooks get traded?
05:20I mean, they, they never solved so many of their problems to the point they, okay, now we
05:27got to get rid of, do we get rid of our good players too?
05:29So we had, we had our, our new general manager, John Eric Sullivan come out and he'd say,
05:35Hey, I'd like to keep the core of these guys.
05:38And, and there's got a lot of different parts to it.
05:41Yeah.
05:41One of the best centers in football Brewer ended up having a great year.
05:45I think you absolutely have to keep him because you've invested in Malik Willis as your quarterback.
05:50You got to agree.
05:51You got to help him.
05:53You got a middle linebacker that you got two of them.
05:56Dotson's there too, who also had a really good year.
05:59I hope they can keep both those guys.
06:01Cause I think again, they serve a purpose of not only being really good, but helping other
06:07guys.
06:08But you would say, if I'm John Eric Sullivan, as you think about it, the question, do you
06:12need both of them?
06:13And at what cost, if, if Jordan Brooks turns 29 in October, when are we going to be good?
06:20He'll be over 30, right?
06:22And there's a dividing line and, and how, how many years could it be good?
06:26But if he helps the development of guys around them, do you need him and Dotson to help the
06:31development?
06:34Of course it would help.
06:35The question is that what benefit, what, what, what's the trade package coming your way that
06:41would sway you?
06:42Well, here's the other problem you have.
06:44All those guys we're talking about had really good years leading one, leading the league in
06:48tackles.
06:49The other guy ranked as one of the two or three top centers in football.
06:55Um, one, a running back who's coming off 1800 plus yards total offense.
07:0224 years old, a lot of treads still left on the tire.
07:0624 years old is young.
07:09Um, those guys don't want new contracts.
07:12All of them.
07:13They know, they understand they have value.
07:15They know other teams are interested and they are looking.
07:19No, there's not a veteran league wants to play off his last year.
07:22They want new, fresh money.
07:24Minka Fitzpatrick went to jets, got a new contract with, with the trade.
07:30We basically got rid of his contract.
07:34So I, I don't know how the team's going to handle on who's going to get, if there's a
07:39first guy needs to get a contract, start running back to Vaughn HN.
07:43For the value of the team and to keep them right.
07:45Absolutely.
07:46And, and, and, you know, Aaron Brooks, a run, a run, uh, Aaron Brewer, Brewer, excuse me.
07:52And, um, there's the issue with, with Jordan Brooks, though, he's going to be 29 great season
08:01last year.
08:01What's his value.
08:02And do you want to pay that?
08:04Or do you want to, as you start over, do you want to, you know, get another draft pick
08:09there?
08:10I think, I think what we're really doing is saying goodbye to Jordan Brooks, the more
08:14I think about it.
08:17So is that third round pick going to do it?
08:20We any, we're going to get a fifth, third round pick.
08:23Is that going to do it?
08:26Hey, and listen, man, we got a lot of dead money.
08:28It's well documented.
08:29You, you have the, everybody's got the number of, of dead money.
08:33182.
08:33I said 180 early.
08:35I think it's 182, but it's a record.
08:36A lot of money that we're, we're playing with this year.
08:39It's very low.
08:40Everybody's on the cheap.
08:42There's a, you've heard a money ball.
08:43This is no money ball.
08:45Right.
08:46Right.
08:48Well, we have a lot of draft picks.
08:50Cheapest way to do business hit on draft picks early.
08:53And, and the best way to rebuild quickly is to hit on draft picks.
08:57Now they tried the same thing.
09:002019 didn't hit on the draft picks and lived with the problems for seven,
09:06six, seven years.
09:09We, we got it.
09:10We got to hit the, the, the draft has been neglected here.
09:15Even when we traded for all those really good players, we gave up a lot of draft picks.
09:20And so we had two small draft classes and outside of HN, they weren't very good.
09:26They had no idea what they were doing in the front office.
09:28They didn't know we want to build with the draft.
09:30No, no.
09:30We want to build with free agency.
09:32They were swinging back and forth and it seems like they have a firm plan here, which
09:38is we're going to build with the draft.
09:40The first year we're going to build with the draft and we'll have a lot of free agent
09:43money.
09:43The second, you know, who did that pretty well after the, and they had their quarterback.
09:48Everybody says Malik, Willis is going to have nobody.
09:51You know what?
09:51Drake may had nothing to around.
09:53He had nothing year one, year one.
09:55He played on a really bad football team.
09:57And then they had a lot of free agent money and then they built with the draft and look
10:02what they did.
10:03So there's the model of what the Dolphins are trying to do.
10:06Yeah.
10:06No, no.
10:07I'm guessing if you're asking, it's a two year deal.
10:12This year, clean it up.
10:14Um, develop some young guys, have some draft pick guys, hopefully from two years ago and
10:19from last year.
10:20And, and here we go.
10:22And as you said, all that free agent money to get a somewhat competitive.
10:26They're right now.
10:27They're in third.
10:28I didn't look after the weekend after the re they redid everything, but they went into
10:33the weekend as the third team with the third most space for the 2027 off season.
10:39Salary salary, salary cap space.
10:42Was it the jets in there?
10:44Jets were number two.
10:45Arizona was number one.
10:47Arizona.
10:48Okay.
10:49All right, Dave.
10:49Well, listen, man, we've got the nine o'clock hour coming up here.
10:53Got a little busy, busy time going on a little bit of everything, man.
10:57Little bit of, uh, everything going on right now.
11:00You realize we're a month away from the draft.
11:02Speaking of the draft, it's a month away.
11:04April 23rd, first round of the NFL draft.
11:07It's going to be a monster craft for this franchise too.
11:10Well, for your fan base to have all these picks in a, in the first two days, not even
11:16Saturday, but Thursday and Friday, Thursday's the first round.
11:20You got two picks.
11:21Then you come back Friday and look at all the picks you have in the second and third round.
11:26It's it's busy time.
11:27It's five picks second day and counting could be, could be another one sneaking in here on
11:33Atlanta.
