Marc Ross joins the show to react to the Dolphins officially cutting Tua Tagovailoa and shares his thoughts on whether Tua will get another chance as a starting quarterback in the NFL. He breaks down the current QB market, including Kyler Murray, Kirk Cousins, and Geno Smith, calling Murray the most intriguing option available. Ross also weighs in on the possibility of the Dolphins signing Malik Willis and gives his take on the Ravens’ blockbuster trade, where they gave up two first-round picks for Maxx Crosby

00:00thank you so much boy what great timing mark ross nfl network analyst and he is going to be busy
00:06he's part of nfl network's free agency frenzy coverage starts today at 10 a.m eastern providing
00:13eight hours of live coverage i gotta tell you nfl network equals nfl teams getting that information
00:22it's uh great stuff and i will be uh watching all day mark um just happened before we had john
00:29we
00:29knew this was going to happen two is going to get cut and we're going to have mark ross on
00:33we just
00:33knew it was going to happen like that today yeah hey yeah saga of two it continues oh man and
00:40i got
00:40people screaming all we do is talk about two uh well listen man he's your starting quarterback
00:46you just paid him like he was uh mahomes and allen and all the rest of those guys uh were
00:52you surprised
00:53on the timing of it or did you expect it this week yeah it was it definitely was the time
00:58to
00:59do it uh for him and you're not a surprise at all that they cut them and you know just
01:04really
01:04that the rise and fall of two and you have to as you said you got to talk about them
01:08i mean it's
01:09where you drafted them and what you paid them and the good the highs and lows and everything in
01:13between the controversy and and also definitely a lightning rod down there and uh we'll see what
01:19happens next with them well it's funny because it seems like we've had a lot of veteran quarterbacks
01:24gino smith just got released here in the last couple of days skylar murray he's uh he kyler
01:29murray he's out and uh so so there's going to be a whole bunch kirk cousins and now tua um
01:36what will
01:37to his market be in in your eye coming in maybe as a as a backup quarterback or do you
01:43see him getting
01:44a a start with somebody else right away yeah i think more of a backup situation and you know to
01:50his
01:50flaws that i've talked about we've talked about a lot since he's came out the draft and uh you know
01:56there's been further kind of exposed since he's been in the league and with the injuries as well
02:01so i can't really see a team looking and saying what they've seen out of him the last few years
02:06that
02:07he'd be a viable starter that you can win with and yeah for two he might need that break too
02:12just to
02:12kind of get get healthy get revitalized get in a different situation where all the pressure is not on
02:17him and uh just lurking the shadows for a little bit to rebuild himself up you uh you saw him
02:23a lot
02:23and i'm not going to beat this up there is a lot of uh free agencies getting ready to kick
02:27in matter
02:28of fact a lot of it's already started but but i want to ask you like i saw the 2023
02:33and i see all
02:34the games up close doing the games on radio but the guy that last year look just whether he was
02:40running
02:41or trying to run or throw or outside throws that he he had been able to make could not make
02:49uh what
02:50did you see from him last year because he he really had a big drop off physically yeah he i
02:56mean he just
02:56looked like a shot fighter really is is how it looked where as you said at least there were certain
03:01things that the good things he could do he could do them well and then even those things that fell
03:07off
03:08as well the timing was off that the arm looked like it it regressed so yeah it just looked like
03:15a a player who had just been beat up and and lost the confidence lost lost the the energy
03:22whatever little pop he had you know in the arm it just looked like it all went away hey uh
03:27so so
03:28mark gotta ask you a lot of teams as you know we talked about this draft class not very strong
03:32we
03:33talked about we still have four or five teams looking for starting quarterbacks we got a couple of
03:37young quarter it's not sure if they can play going into year three probably looking for veterans to
03:42help that situation so you don't waste seasons with losing games you don't have to um i'm just curious
03:49give give me your ranking as you look at like geno smith and kirk cousins and murray and because
03:56there's a chance all three of those guys get starting jobs yeah and that's the thing that we always go
04:02through this carousel every year of who's going to start and it doesn't really matter you know are they
04:07good enough i mean kirk cousins is not going to win anything for you geno smith is not going to
04:11win anything for you so that'd be a you need the musical chairs and someone has to have their
04:16sitting down but it's actually you know who can dance who can get you to the dance and that's uh
04:20it's not any of those guys the intriguing ones really is kyler you know kyler murray is number one
04:26for me of here's a player that you're not guessing you've seen him play at a high level he was
04:30offensive rookie of the year two-time pro bowler you know throwing for 3 000 yards a bunch of times
04:35and
04:35so you've seen it with kyler it's just whatever else is there why he regressed of course the injuries
04:40but you know building him back up the confidence there with him and and getting in the right
04:45situation where he doesn't have to be the whole entire offense i think you could see a revitalization
04:51malik willis would be number two there where a younger guy who has shown vast improvement from
04:58one situation to another and you're hoping to get another jump out of him but at least he's young and
05:02viable and can provide something for your offense that those older guys can't well i'm glad you said
05:07that because uh we have a green bay general manager and a head coach that know malik willis better than
05:13anybody and i'm just curious people have talked about the price he doesn't have a lot on tape but
05:20when he did play in green bay he was it really good running and throwing and we've seen a lot
05:26of it here
05:26but i'm just curious how much you go out and pay now we're limited on dollars i think our gm
05:33really
05:33likes him a lot i do i think john eric sullivan really likes him but is the money going to
05:39get
05:39crazy on the malik willis front yeah i think it might because when you're looking at him and the
05:45landscape of the other qbs and as i mentioned all right we want a 35 six-year-old dude or
05:52we want
05:52somebody that's 25 26 whatever he is now you know so and and again the teams or we'll see the
05:58how much better he got in green bay and of course as you mentioned i've been saying this from the
06:04start with he'd be the perfect fit there in miami because of the gm and the head coach were there
06:08with
06:08him and not only do you evaluate the free agent market but coaches generally like players that
06:15they're familiar with and that makes them feel better to know there's no guesswork which you're
06:19bringing in malik willis because you've been around him so you know 100 what he's all about
06:24as a leader as a locker room guys in the community all of that stuff and now okay can we
06:29just get him
06:30to play and perform so yeah that comfort level that coaches always like to have with players they've
06:34been around so he would be i think an ideal fit there miami but yeah there'd be other teams looking
06:39around saying well man we might have to outbid them to get them hey uh just uh talk about the
06:45max
06:45crosby deal two number ones i listen i think max crosby's really good i know everybody's looking
06:51for a number one pass rusher a guy that can get pressures but boy if you know what you're doing
06:56in the front office two number one picks a lot to give up for a guy 29 years old or
07:01not yeah i was
07:03i was kind of floored by that when i saw that come about and i actually was talking to people
07:07in
07:07philadelphia here uh about you know giving up their one i was like i don't know about just one
07:12you know you have to have a package and some players so and then here it is baltimore goes
07:16well hold my beer here's two ones like whoa so yeah super risky for me it's you got to win
07:21the
07:21super bowl now there's no well we gave up two ones and we got to the playoffs and lost in
07:26the first
07:26round again for max crosby that's that's not what it's all about is if they go win the super bowl
07:30to
07:31me to be worth it if they don't then it was a bad investment hey uh mark um we we
07:36said we're sitting
07:37back and we talked about the dolphins a lot and john eric sullivan the situation he's in right now
07:43i mean you have no money for free agency you're getting ready to take a 99 million dollar
07:50dead money cap hit um how do you go about like i guess you can still create things if you
07:56like a guy
07:57like malik or something else but man you are really limited and this just sounds like it is going to
08:03be a
08:03lot of draft guys and rookie free agents or veterans on the bare minimum coming into this team
08:10yeah that's really what they knew what they were signing up for there and uh you know really going
08:16to be a quite a rebuild uh once again you know how many years we kind of talked about this
08:22with the
08:22dolphins another rebuild and you know creating that money as you said restructuring contracts and and
08:28cutting guy cutting high salary guys and now we saw with the chiefs with restructuring my home's
08:34contract to get money there and right you know other teams have followed suit to do that where you can
08:38you know it looks like you're you're you're under the cap and now you do move money around and and
08:44create space so that's what really the dolphins will have to do if there's one of these high market
08:48players that they want to have to go after but but overall it could be as you mentioned uh let's
08:55let's
08:55let's build this off of these new players that we brought in here and might be a little little
08:59pain for a while um you see i i still hear this from time to time uh devon a chance
09:05name mentioned
09:05he's still a young young guy he can flat out fly coming off a great year he's gonna want more
09:12money
09:12there's no question about it um what do you do with that one uh and what kind of offer would
09:18there be
09:19for a guy like that yeah well he's one that you want to try to get as early as possible
09:24to
09:25to try to extend him if you feel as if he's part of the solution if you feel like he's
09:29part of the
09:29foundation or if not like all right well what what can we get for him what's the market will someone
09:35give up you know a team that's uh you know in contention like oh we're we're at the body's hand
09:42away from making a super bowl run much like rashid shaheed last year like that sort of dynamic
09:46player like can we get that person and and get us over the top so i would think right now
09:53they're
09:54prioritizing him and what they're going to do and and if not then okay now where do we go where
09:59will
09:59the market be for him moving forward to say he'd be worth letting go yeah so so they have said
10:06they'd
10:06like to keep some of the young talented guys and and jalen waddles in there too and there looks like
10:10there's a shortage of veteran receivers we we saw what buffalo has already done and new england we know
10:17is going to be looking for a guy now that digs is gone um what kind of market you think
10:22there would
10:23be for somebody they would might knock their socks off and make an offer of what for waddle what would
10:28it be yeah i think and his name's been banning around for a while as well and again if we're
10:36talking
10:36about the total reset of you know tyreek's gone and and if if uh two is gone and okay well
10:43is he the
10:43next step is he the next next piece and yeah i don't think it'll be a one you know that'd
10:47be too much
10:48for for him but you know a package of picks that are up there pretty high at least including the
10:53two and
10:54uh would be something that the market would dictate for him and again the injury history talk about
11:01injuries that that's the thing that where teams give pause it's like not just the play and what the
11:06worth is like well here's a guy that's been injured a lot do we really want to invest too much
11:09in him and i think teams will say no that's not worth it a one but you know or two
11:15or three a
11:15package something like that will do it hey hey mark i want to ask you i know you guys getting
11:19ready
11:19for all this coverage where we're calling the 52 hour legal tampering starting today at uh at noon
11:26and taking a look what are you going to be watching for is the quarterbacks going to be the story
11:30again
11:31this year is that always his story because it's always you got to have one yeah the quarterbacks
11:37they drive our drive the programming they drive the discussions they drive that uh so yeah for sure
11:43that's going to be and there's always going to be a surprise what's the surprise going to be that
11:47that's always fun to say oh man i mean maybe it already is the max crosby two first round picks
11:52that doesn't be hard to beat that one moving forward but uh yeah that'll be the fun of it uh
11:57definitely the quarterbacks and then all right what's going to be something that's we're all
12:02going to sit there saying oh my goodness that really happened any anything else you're watching
12:06today any teams some teams are we know got a ton of money and and other teams are tight and
12:13and
12:14trying to figure out a way to get more cap space here in the next 24 hours well the teams
12:19with all the
12:19money and that's the two at the top that's tennessee and and the raiders that they'll be fun just to
12:24see you know this time last year the patriots were the team with the had the number one cap space
12:29and
12:30they were aggressive so they went and got the top of the market guys milt williams and carlton davis
12:34and slain and and they hit they hit all those players and they did a great job which turned it
12:39around
12:40so fast for them and you're looking at tennessee and the raiders are saying okay can we have a similar
12:45type turnaround because uh drake may they had the patriots had drake may and and these two teams you
12:51know they got cam warden tennessee and likely fernando mendoza the raiders so can we have a
12:55similar type turnaround with spending the money and hitting on these free agents that we saw you uh
13:01you're sold before i let you go uh you're sold on mendoza's number one overall pick yeah i think he's
13:07he is going to be certainly uh now i don't i don't see him as an upper echelon type talent
13:12but with the
13:14right infrastructure kind of what way he was at indiana you know if you if they had a ton of
13:17talent
13:18around him and he was a distributor playmaker and so you got to have that and the raiders have a
13:22couple pieces already of course and bowers and gentry and now you spend money and you got a new
13:27head coach and uh we'll see where that goes but yeah you put the right pieces around him you know
13:32he'll be a really good distributor for you mark thank you man i really appreciate it what timing
13:37what timing you have today my man thank you for sure all right all right mark ross nfl network
13:44canless nfl network's free agency frenzy that coverage starts today at 10 a.m providing
