00:18Here's part one of what set everything off over the Cowboy weekend.
00:23When I see Dr. Daniel Cooper, who I know is part of the Cowboys,
00:28but was also part of the evaluation of a player who did not get traded to the Ravens last year,
00:34I start to connect dots and wonder, was that part of a conversation yesterday?
00:39Yeah, we're always looking at things.
00:41I mean, that's just part of it, and, you know, we don't need to be talking, putting names.
00:46I was very vague on that, specifically.

01:14because a lot of these older players who've still got some tread on the tire
01:19can come in here and help you.
01:23And so, you know, it may come in the form of a trade, it may come in the form of
01:28a, you know,
01:29a veteran signing as you move into camp, because a lot of these veteran players a lot of times
01:34don't like to go to the first part of training camp.
01:37So, that's Steven really talking about a veteran with tread on the tires.
01:42That's why Kevin was asking about Bobby Wagner.
01:45Could he be referring to Von Miller?
01:47That would not seem, though, to be the splash that Jerry reiterated on Saturday
01:53while out here at practice.
01:55By the way, first padded practice, not a ton going on on Friday and yesterday with a day off.

02:08I'd be surprised that the starting players on this defense don't change over time.
02:14So, they're just coming out day one talking about adding,
02:18and I don't think it's the usual hype and bluster, although nothing has really happened,
02:23and we still haven't gotten a name until Brian Broaddus opened up G-Bag.
02:28I think they're going for a bigger fish.

02:46The team I think you need to focus on is Miami.

02:54that maybe that Miami realizes that they're not going to be very good.

03:04that maybe that they're going to go ahead and absorb a bunch of cap.

03:14and Ross has kind of given them a blessing to,
03:17hey, if we have to take more of those hits,
03:22but we could add draft picks and draft capital,
03:26that we're willing to do that.
03:29I would keep an eye on Brooks there.

03:39Now, as very intelligent NFL and Cowboy fans immediately pointed out
03:45when this started to blow up,
03:48Jordan Brooks just signed a brand-new contract.
03:50We know this because we talked about Jordan Brooks a ton this offseason
03:55amongst different Cowboy linebacker options.
03:58He just signed three for 51 with 35 guaranteed,
04:03and you said it during that clip.
04:07Now Miami's realizing we're not going to be very good.

05:48it makes him easier to acquire, yes.
05:50It hits Miami harder, which if Miami's just okay taking a financial bath,
05:55then that's not a question.
05:55The reason why these sort of things don't typically happen is because it hits
05:58the team that's trading them too hard.
06:00It's not so much who's going to acquire them.
06:02The team that acquires them goes, great, we take everything on,
06:04except what, you just ate that signing bonus for nothing?

06:07All right, we'll do that trade with you.
06:09That doesn't make any sense.
06:10But it's going to cost, you're probably going to have to give up more draft pick for them.
06:16Unless there's some financial maneuver that's brilliant, that we usually don't see.

08:10All right, that's interesting because the cap hits 2026 is 6.2, 2027 is 17.9, then 19.1 for
08:19the contract.
08:19And from Miami's perspective, by the time they're ready to win again, Jordan Brooks will be over 30 years old.

08:25So they don't care.
08:26His base salary over the first three years of his deal add up to a little over 27 million.

08:31This actually would be a smart move for Miami.

10:58So I know we had asked the question, too, about not just Presley, but we asked, has this ever happened
11:04even, where somebody signed an extension and was traded?
11:06It's happened one time that I can find, and it was Sam Bradford signed a two-year extension with the
11:11Eagles.
11:11They then drafted Wentz and traded Bradford later in the year.
11:14Yeah, Chiafala was asking that, like, how quickly is a turnaround, Ben, for someone to get dealt right after signing?
11:21Nick Harris, for what it's worth, he went and did some homework on this, and that basically got shut down.
11:28As Nick said, after talking to a couple of folks, there was more to it before the draft, but Brooks
11:33and Miami are locked in, heading into the season after the deal.
11:36They don't have any interest in dealing him.
11:39Max Crosby heard Jerry and the Cowboy presser.
11:42He said, quote, it doesn't change anything for me, to be honest.
11:46People act like they don't hear it.
11:48If you're an athlete in this position, you see everything, regardless if you want to or not, that he told
11:53to Jarrett Bell USA today.
11:55So that's where we stand.
11:57That's not, that doesn't sound like, I mean, honestly, it shouldn't make a difference to Max.
12:01Max has to work.
12:01He can't really do anything about it.
12:03So that, that's not like a shooting it down, not like it's up to him.
12:05But I still think Crosby eventually gets traded, and Dallas will be monitoring when it happens.
