The family of Flight Lieutenant Shubham Kumar, who lost his life in an Indian Air Force aircraft crash in Assam, has raised questions over a Rs 21 lakh compensation cheque allegedly handed over to a woman they describe as his "alleged wife."

His father, Amarendra Sharma, said the family knew about Shubham's relationship with Shreya Rai and had agreed to their marriage, but were unaware of any legal or court marriage. He claimed they were informed about the compensation only after the funeral.

While stating that a legally wedded wife has every right to the benefits, the family has sought clarity on the process and appealed to authorities for transparency and support.

The dispute has sparked debate over legal rights, communication and the distribution of compensation meant for the families of fallen servicemen.
