Ambala (Haryana): A 22-year-old woman was killed in a tragic road accident near the Kali Paltan Bridge in Ambala after a car allegedly driven by a drunk police officer rammed into an e-rickshaw and ran over her.

The deceased has been identified as Nikita. According to eyewitnesses, the accused policeman was driving at high speed in a crowded area when he lost control of his vehicle and hit an e-rickshaw. The impact threw Nikita off the vehicle onto the road.

Witnesses alleged that instead of stopping, the policeman drove the car over the young woman, resulting in her death on the spot. Locals present at the scene overpowered the accused officer and handed him over to the police.

The incident triggered widespread outrage. Angry residents and family members staged a protest and created a ruckus at Ambala Civil Hospital late at night, demanding strict action against the accused.

Another eyewitness claimed that the policeman appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident and was driving recklessly despite heavy traffic in the area.

As of now, the police have refused to comment officially on the matter. An investigation is expected to determine the exact sequence of events and whether the accused officer was indeed intoxicated while driving.

The incident has sparked serious concerns over accountability and road safety, particularly involving law enforcement personnel.
