00:00Ladies and gentlemen, guess what I did over the weekend?
00:04I got to hold it up for everybody to see.
00:06You got to watch us on YouTube Live.
00:08Ladies and gentlemen, the draft work is done.
00:12The NBA draft?
00:14No, this is the NFL draft, baby.
00:17I got my pens up.
00:18Don't put it right in the camera.
00:19Everybody's going to see.
00:20That's fine.
00:20By the way, if you just saw...
00:22You're going to have GMs out there taking your guys.
00:24That's fine.
00:24These aren't rankings.
00:25I just...
00:27I did a general top 10 of where I saw everything.
00:31Because it's like, hey, listen, I'm not Mel Kiper.
00:33I did like day three.
00:34I'm not even on air day three.
00:35I think I'll actually be in State College on day three.
00:37But I'm on first two days of the draft.
00:40So this is a lot of fun.
00:42We got tackles here.
00:43Is that where Drew Aller is going to be on day three?
00:45Can I tell you something?
00:48Why are you going to do that?
00:50You're going to be with the Aller family?
00:51Or what are you going to be doing?
00:53The Aller family lives in Medina.
00:55I don't know why they'd be in State College.
00:57They'd be training.
00:58I said I might.
00:58I'm not sure yet.
01:00Did he graduate?
01:00Is he done?
01:02Yes.
01:02He's in the draft.
01:03Okay.
01:04Nathan Zagura talked about him just Friday on the fan, on our station.
01:08You were doing John Newsweek.
01:09So he graduated early is what you're saying.
01:11I don't know if he graduated early.
01:12Okay.
01:13I actually don't have the...
01:14I don't know if he's still attending classes.
01:16Drew Aller had one class in the fall, actually.
01:19That's all he had.
01:20Of course you got John.
01:21What class was it, John?
01:22I don't know.
01:23It was just one class.
01:24Basket weaving.
01:25It's part of what your job is.
01:26Go find out the class.
01:27You just can't say maybe he took two classes.
01:29Maybe he took three classes.
01:30His parents are listeners, John.
01:32His family listened.
01:34You got anything else you'd like to say to the Aller family?
01:39You got anything, John?
01:40I mean, do you want me to be honest?
01:43Yeah, go ahead and be honest, John.
01:45Yeah, I think Drew Aller didn't live up to the hype at Penn State,
01:49but I also don't think that he had even remotely the type of help
01:52that he should have had.
01:53You mean that terrible offensive coordinator he had
01:55that I called up from day one even back when he was at Buffalo?
01:57Boom.
01:58I just think they also didn't recruit receivers at all.
02:02Well, the guy sits there and calls play,
02:03so Dan Casey puts his stuff up on the internet.
02:06Like, come on.
02:06Get serious for crying out loud.
02:08All right.
02:09No, John, that wasn't too mean.
02:10That wasn't bad.
02:11All right.
02:12Yeah, John, everybody.
02:14No, I got...
02:14You know what I did feel like, though?
02:16I was filling all the stuff out and things like that,
02:18and I got the centers and all the offensive linemen.
02:21I don't mean to be a...
02:22I don't mean to pour cold water on all this here,
02:25but I'm looking at some of these tackles,
02:28and I'm looking at the guards and the centers, I go...
02:33It's not about this year and getting all these free agents,
02:36but I'm going, there's some quality here.
02:38There's some depth here with these offensive linemen.
02:41If you didn't mess up...
02:42The NFL needs it desperately.
02:43If you didn't mess up in previous drafts,
02:47like, I'd be yelling about some of these guys here.
02:50I mean, I think there's some quality here.
02:52There's some real quality with these linemen.
02:54And maybe in late, you know, in your day two picks,
02:57I don't know if...
02:58Because I got to tell you, ever since they made the work,
03:00they did everything with the trade for Titus Howard
03:03and everything else with free agency,
03:04are you getting the feeling they're not going to go
03:06offensive line in the first round?
03:08Or at least they might go like...
03:10Because if you're not taking one at number six,
03:11then I'm thinking, well, maybe you develop one later on
03:14and you're looking at day two or day three.
03:16That's where I get into some of this...
03:17So do I have to wait?
03:18Do I have to open up my eyes to the fact
03:20they're not taking one at six?
03:20Because I've always thought they were taking one at six.
03:23I think you do.
03:24I really think you do.
03:25After the moves that they've made,
03:26I mean, I think they've given themselves...
03:28If they like Monroe Freeling so much
03:30or Spencer Fano that much
03:31or CeCe Maunoa,
03:33like, those are the three that we've talked about here.
03:35And Monroe Freeling has flown...
03:37Up the draft board to a point
03:38where I think it scares a lot of us.
03:41I'd be...
03:42I'd actually be surprised right now
03:43if they went in.
03:45Guys, I have no intel
03:46on what I think they're going to do,
03:47what they're going to do.
03:48I mean, it's March.
03:49We still got pro days.
03:51We still got more official visits,
03:52things like that.
03:53There's a lot of things that they got to do.
03:55But I think with just the moves
03:57that they made in free agency,
03:59it tends to give you a ton of flexibility.
04:01If you wanted to move down,
04:03if somebody's willing to trade up with you,
04:04you can certainly move down.
04:06But I think it opens up wide receivers.
04:09I think it opens up that conversation,
04:10whether it be Connor L. Tate or Makai Lemon.
04:13I think that if you trade it down,
04:15it might be a possibility with another position.
04:17Or I think that, you know,
04:19this is going to be a tough sell
04:20for a lot of fans
04:21considering your defense is good
04:22and your offense is just so god-awful bad
04:25over the last couple of years.
04:26Like, if Caleb Downs is there
04:28and you're talking best player available throughout
04:30and you're never budging on that,
04:31and nobody's willing to move up with you,
04:34then what else are you supposed to do?
04:35I still would be stunned.
04:38It would be surprised.
04:39Big time stunned.
04:39That to me would be the most surprising outcome.
04:41If they went best player available like that.
04:42That to me would be the most surprising outcome.
04:45But with the moves that they made...
04:47I've seen a lot of fans suggest that
04:48or jump on that bandwagon
04:51that should be best player available,
04:52and I still find it hard to believe.
04:56Like, well, it depends.
04:57Do you think Cardinal Tate is better than Caleb Downs?
05:02If we were doing best player available.
05:04I do not.
05:04Didn't we do best Buckeye?
05:06And wasn't Julian Sane number five?
05:08Yeah, I remember we did.
05:09Which one do we have above?
05:10Because Caleb Downs was in there.
05:12Caleb Downs, Arvel Reese,
05:14Carnell Tate, Jeremiah Smith,
05:16Julian Sane.
05:16Those were the five that were right off
05:17the tippy-top of our heads, right?
05:19Okay.
05:20Out of those guys,
05:22number one overall,
05:23probably a guy who can't even be drafted this year.
05:25It's Jeremiah Smith.
05:26Yeah, Jeremiah Smith.
05:27And then you got either Caleb Downs or Arvel Reese.
05:30And then I would probably put Cardinal Tate in there,
05:32wouldn't I?
05:33It was Caleb Downs.
05:35Caleb Downs, Arvel Reese,
05:36then Carnell Tate.
05:37That's number four.
05:38Carnell Tate would be number four in that mix.
05:40But, I mean,
05:42and you just tendered Ronnie Hickman.
05:46That kind of gets in the way, doesn't it?
05:48So I don't know.
05:49I mean, you're not going to not draft a guy
05:51at number six overall because of Ronnie Hickman.
05:53No offense.
05:54Because of Ronnie Hickman,
05:54you're not going to do that.
05:55But I'm just saying at six overall,
05:57if they took a defensive player,
05:58I would be stunned.
06:00I'd be really surprised by that.
06:01But my God,
06:02there's some quality here when it comes to the offensive line.
06:04I got really excited while filling out all the stuff, man.
06:06I had a great Friday and Saturday, man.
06:08That was a lot of fun.
06:09Anyway, but it does,
06:11it does make me a little bit wistful
06:12on some of the things that had happened before.
06:13So after free agency,
06:15it is a tradition unlike any other.
06:17How much better are the Browns?
06:19Because it seems that,
06:20I know that there's still moves to be made out there.
06:22There's still a couple of free agents
06:24that might be out there,
06:24but we're starting to get into the nitty-gritty everything here.
06:27So if you're thinking of this tone,
06:29how much better are they?
06:30Like, have you,
06:31did you have a win total right after the Super Bowl
06:34and did it change for you over the week?
06:35I think I said five after the Super Bowl
06:37and it's still five.
06:38It's five or six.
06:39That hasn't changed.
06:41I think,
06:41I think obviously they,
06:44look,
06:44they were going to address the offensive line.
06:46They weren't going to come back with zero offensive linemen.
06:48And they were never going to be able to get offensive linemen
06:50that other teams wanted, right?
06:51The original teams,
06:53you were always going to be dealing in that group of guys
06:58that are only available because the original teams,
07:01you know,
07:02didn't want them anymore.
07:02That's the deal with offensive linemen.
07:04Like,
07:04you don't get to rip away great offensive linemen from other teams
07:07unless you're trading a haul,
07:08which they were never in position to do.
07:10So,
07:11on paper,
07:12they're better with the offensive line.
07:14I still,
07:15like,
07:16if you were to ask me right now,
07:17have they fixed the offensive line?
07:19Now,
07:19they could still be a very bad offensive line this year.
07:21I think I,
07:22I think I went with,
07:23it's really hard.
07:24It's really hard to turn that over.
07:25I think I said four to six.
07:26I want to stick with six.
07:27Okay.
07:28Okay.
07:28And the reason I'm still at six is because
07:32I think that they're like Titus Howard,
07:34I think is,
07:36is better than what some people want to make arguments for.
07:38Now record that.
07:39Maybe I'll be ripping them coming up this fall.
07:41Okay.
07:42Cause it's been a mixed bag on any one of these guys.
07:44Now there's,
07:45there's certain things that each of them do very,
07:46very well.
07:47Obviously they're free agents for a reason,
07:49but because you have so many of them and you have to bring them
07:52together in a very short period of time,
07:55it's going to put a lot of pressure on George Warhop,
07:56which again is one of the guessing games of the offensive line.
07:59Because when we hired back George Warhop,
08:03again,
08:03the phones are blowing up.
08:04Cause you and I both know a lot of former Browns linemen.
08:07They love them.
08:08Yeah.
08:08And there's a lot of people around the league who love George Warhop.
08:11But when they hired George Warhop,
08:13there was the before and afters on pro football focus and say what you will.
08:19It's all a guess.
08:20I understand that,
08:21but it was like,
08:22Hey,
08:22these teams,
08:23offensive lines ranked considerably higher for PFF right after he left the
08:29year.
08:29He was there towards the year.
08:31He was left.
08:32It was almost night and day in a lot of cases there.
08:34So that's going to be something that people pay attention to.
08:36That's why it's like,
08:37Hey,
08:37you never know when you're going to have that many free agents on an
08:40offensive line.
08:41You'd never truly know.
08:42And so I think it's a bigger guess than anything like,
08:45Hey,
08:45they could work out well.
08:45The offensive line could work out well.
08:47It could give Shidor Sanders or maybe Watson,
08:49who the hell knows,
08:50but it would give Shidor Sanders plenty of time to find somebody.
08:53You're definitely going to draft a wide receiver at some point here in the,
08:56in the early part of the draft.
08:58So maybe that's going to be able to help.
08:59On the offensive line.
09:00If you had five average offensive linemen,
09:03which the guys they went and got in free agency,
09:06and you're always overpaying in free agency,
09:07but the guys either traded for or gotten free agency,
09:10they were all depending on ESPN or PFF,
09:13they were all in the neighborhood of average to slightly below average.
09:16That's what I thought.
09:17Yes.
09:18Depending on who you believe or whatever.
09:20If you have five average offensive linemen,
09:23your line still might be bad if you don't,
09:24because you don't have a dominant left tackle,
09:26right?
09:26Or right.
09:26You know,
09:27those are the,
09:27those are the positions like your quarterback could,
09:30would still be running for their life.
09:31But if you're,
09:31if you are a good run and I'm glad you brought this up,
09:34if you,
09:34if you got guys who are good run blockers and could do it,
09:37then you can run the ball better.
09:39Now,
09:40again,
09:40if you just have number 10 back there,
09:42and this is what one of the,
09:43you know,
09:43coach Lance brought this up.
09:44This is why they seem to run it better with Dylan Sampson.
09:47Then they did with this getting nitty gritty pretty quick.
09:49Then they did with,
09:49with Quinshawn Junkins is like when 10 was back there,
09:52every defense to do,
09:53and you were loading up eight in the box.
09:55Cause you knew where they were going to go.
09:57So when it was Sampson and there was a little bit more of a guessing game
10:00that put a little bit more on Shador Sanders to try to have to throw the
10:03ball a little bit further.
10:04It opened up some lanes for a guy like Dylan Sampson,
10:07where it wouldn't for Quinshawn Junkins.
10:08Now that is an offensive coordinator problem.
10:11That,
10:11that might be a little bit personnel,
10:12but that is an offensive coordinator problem.
10:14Cause you can always throw up your hands and go,
10:15what am I supposed to do?
10:17I got to do what I,
10:17what I got to do.
10:18Well,
10:18we're going to find out with Todd Munkin.
10:20All right.
10:20We're going to find out with him and what he wants to do with his offense
10:22here and how much of a change and how much better it is with Todd Munkin
10:25than it was with Kevin Stefanski.
10:27So we're going to find that out.
10:28But I think a good offensive line or a,
10:31a bunch of marginal players on an offensive line.
10:34Yeah.
10:34They can end up being terrible.
10:35If you got to throw the ball all over the place and we don't necessarily
10:37know where they're coming from,
10:39or if they're able to run the ball with any modicum of success,
10:43most guys are going to move better fat forward than they do backwards.
10:47So it still might be okay.
10:48I'm not going to rule them out and say they're going to be garbage just
10:51because they got a bunch of free agent offensive linemen.
10:53In fact,
10:54quite the opposite.
10:55I just can't because they've went so heavy on offensive linemen and free
10:58agency.
10:59Usually do a lot of fans that might go,
11:01okay,
11:01I thought they were going to win six.
11:02Now they can win seven strength,
11:04the schedule,
11:04everything.
11:05It's like,
11:05no,
11:05I got to stay because they haven't even got to OTAs yet.
11:08Usually you have something damning right after a free agency period
11:11where you're either think they're going to be worse or you think
11:14they're going to be much better.
11:15This.
11:16No,
11:16I don't think I've budged.
11:18I still think it's six.
11:19and then the next question is how quickly can a brand new offensive line,
11:23and we're not just talking one piece and or part,
11:27how quickly will it take?
11:29How much time does it take to gel?
11:31So like,
11:32is that something that takes half a season?
11:34Because if that's the case,
11:35well,
11:35then we got to look at what their schedule looks like.
11:37It may very well.
11:38The thing that helps them.
11:39That's provided they're healthy.
11:40The thing that helps them is their veterans.
11:43And because they're veterans,
11:44you know,
11:45they've had experience that some of these guys have been thrown into the
11:47fire before that might help them.
11:50Because of the fire drill that they're going to be thrown into,
11:55that they might be able to take care of that business.
11:57So it's,
11:58it is a delicate situation.
12:00And usually there's something that's very strong said one way or the
12:03other after free agency,
12:04but I still feel the same.
12:06I did before.
