00:00Where are you? How are you? Are you good with how the Texans have handled free agency thus far?
00:08They've made some moves. They've moved on from some players, traded some players, brought some players in.
00:15What would you say, Clint, are the big moves? Braden Smith today, which looks like their new right tackle.
00:21Ed Ingram was a good get. Ed Ingram. You know, one of the top guards available.
00:25Reed Blankenship coming in. Reed Blankenship in the secondary at that safety position.
00:29I would say David Montgomery. I think those are all solid gets.
00:33Those are the guys that are coming in. And then they've moved on and traded Titus Howard as the big
00:41piece that is moving on.
00:43They also, as you said, they've done a lot of re-signing of their guys.
00:47They re-signed Trent Brown, who looks like he is going to play maybe a swing tackle role.
00:52They've re-signed Dalton Schultz.
00:56They've added a year to Dalton Schultz.
00:58Ed Ingram.
00:59And Sheldon Rankins is where I was going to go.
01:01They've re-signed Sheldon Rankins.
01:02They've actually given an extension to Fairbairn, the kicker, as well.
01:08So they've explored a lot of money within their players that they have at home.
01:15How do you feel about it?
01:167-1-3-5-7-2-4-6-10.
01:19How are you feeling about how they have handled free agency thus far?
01:23I feel good about it.
01:24Look, I feel like it's very on-brand for the Texans as they see offensive football.
01:30Clearly, they believe in bringing players in, whether it's free agency trade or draft.
01:36They believe in doing things a little differently, operating a little differently on the defensive side of the football,
01:40which makes sense because that's where D'Amico Ryans is.
01:43Offensively, this is on-brand.
01:45I think solid across the board, not breaking the bank for any one player, I think is on-brand for
01:52Nick Casario.
01:52It's on-brand for what they want to do offensively, and I think they've done that.
01:56They didn't overspend at the running back position, got a really solid back that I think makes them better.
02:00It definitely makes them better in areas where they struggled last year.
02:04I would say red zone offense.
02:06I would argue that short yardage offense, I think he makes them better there.
02:12I think, as you mentioned, they re-upped that right side of their line, which they feel really good running
02:17behind,
02:17and you add Braden Smith to that, which is very on-brand for what they want to do offensively.
02:24It's a two-year, $20 million deal, so they didn't break the bank there, but he's a really good player.
02:28It's been really good in the run game, and so I think the way that I would couch it is
02:33on-brand.
02:34I mean, personally, look, I would rather them approach this thing the way that a handful of other Super Bowl
02:45contending teams have.
02:46You look at the Rams.
02:48I mean, it was an all-out shootout a couple of times throughout the year with them,
02:53and that ended up being their downfall, right?
02:55They went out and got two corners.
02:56Not one, but two already.
02:59Including giving the largest contract that a corner has ever got.
03:03There you go.
03:03There you go.
03:04So they do that.
03:05Then you look at the Chiefs.
03:06They have some issues on the offensive side of the football, so they move some guys on the defense.
03:11They go out and pay $15 million a year to the best running back available on the market, Kenneth Walker.
03:16So, I mean, that's one way to fix things if you're a contender.
03:21And then you look at the Ravens, right?
03:22I mean, John Harris alluded to how they've missed in the draft at the edge rusher position.
03:27They said to hell with it.
03:28If we can't draft them, let's give two first-rounders for Max Crosby.
03:31They went out there and added to them.
03:33So, those are those were on the doorstep, let's kick this damn thing in kind of deal.
03:39And I don't think the Texans subscribe to that.
03:41As a fan, I don't know what fan wouldn't prefer that.
03:44I mean, that's obviously more exciting.
03:46But the Texans just don't believe in that, particularly on the offensive side of the football.
03:50So, they're going with solid at best.
03:52And I think we're going to look at a few more of those moves, probably.
03:55I'm glad you brought up some of those teams.
03:59713-572-4610 on the base power text line.
04:02How are you feeling right now?
04:04Where are you at in terms of how the Texans have handled this offseason thus far?
04:08Text line coming through.
04:09I'm good with the offseason moves so far without breaking the bank.
04:13Someone says, show me the money.
04:15If they get a free agent left guard, I'll be fine going into the draft.
04:19Yes, we still have the draft and still have free agency period happening right now.
04:24But I'm glad you brought up those teams because I think you, and I think that's really good of a
04:30dynamic that we have in here,
04:32is you played it and you've been around organizations in the game.
04:37And sometimes your thought process is different than how fans' thought process are.
04:43And even though I've been in this business a while, and it is not to the fan level that I
04:51am 15 years ago before doing this,
04:55where Tyler is, Tyler is amazing.
04:58He has not seemed to have slowed down at all, even though he gets to see exactly how the sausage
05:04is made.
05:05Endurance.
05:06It seems he is still as fired up as he was before he started working here.
05:12But for like a fan's perspective, let's just be honest.
05:16Many of you, from the Victors to the Larry and Staffords to Mel to Tony to Dom in Jersey,
05:26all of our callers, Unc, all of them, Derwin, like you're going to, as a fan, no matter what happens,
05:36you're going to, in some form or fashion, make this work in your mind.
05:42This is what fans naturally do, what we do.
05:45We're going to make this work.
05:47All right?
05:49You know, it is.
05:50Like, no matter what it is.
05:52If you've got to squint, no matter.
05:54But I know fans would just love, Tyler's, the fighting Tyler's, all of you,
05:58would love to just not have to squint a little bit and make this thing make sense.
06:04And just look at it, like you said, the Rams, a Rams fan.
06:08There ain't no squinting.
06:10There is.
06:11Let's go.
06:12Let's go.
06:13We got two new starting corners.
06:15One was an all pro, and he's 25.
06:17The other one is an ascending player that is young, too.
06:20Let's go.
06:21We got all this around.
06:22We are ready to go.
06:24Because the Rams see themselves as Super Bowl contenders.
06:28Rams fans do as well.
06:29The Texans, I believe, see themselves as Super Bowl contenders.
06:33Texans fans do as well.
06:35I'm saying right now, you're going to make this make sense.
06:41But I think right now, when you look at this team, there's a little bit more squinting happening, Tyler,
06:46than just, uh.
06:50Definitely than expected.
06:51I'll agree with that.
06:52You know, there's a little bit more.
06:54You, you, we're going to hear statements to me like, just wait till it plays out.
07:00That's what you say when you gotta, you gotta squint.
07:03Like.
07:04It's a long season.
07:05You never know.
07:06Like.
07:07This, this team picked up a lineman like this, and they turned out to be good.
07:13Like, you're going to, I just think there are Texans fans who would love to just say,
07:18look at this damn team and let's rock and roll.
07:21Look at this.
07:21Like two years ago.
07:22I think you did that.
07:24You're like, the Neil Hunter and Will Anderson, you don't have to squint to try to figure out
07:29the pass for us.
07:30And you're going to add Danico Autry to it.
07:32You don't have to squint.
07:34With Stingley, them back there, Joe Mixon's going to be the running back.
07:38Woo.
07:38Okay.
07:39We got it.
07:40You got Tankdale, Steph Diggs, and Nico.
07:45Let's go.
07:46Like, you didn't have to.
07:48This one right now, again, there's still time.
07:52With the 28th pick, there's still time.
07:54You can move up.
07:55There's some, there's some convincing yourself of what, of what this team can be.
08:00And I, I, I don't know.
08:03I thought it would be a bit different.
08:04Let's go around.
08:05I didn't think this was going to be a convincing.
08:08I thought there would be surefire answers that you're like, yes, most definitely this
08:14is going to work.
08:15And this is why I feel like they're ready to take the next step right now.
08:19They feel like to me personally, they're in the same range and hopeful that, that maybe
08:27some of these other teams maybe come, come back.
08:30Yeah, look, I, I, um, I, I was hoping for, uh, a lot bigger splash moves.
08:40Um, you know, I, I think, I think the two positions that I was hoping for big splash
08:46moves, uh, running back and center, um, I can live with what they did at running back.
08:52It wasn't a major splash move that really, really turns me on.
08:55I like David Montgomery.
08:56I think you can win with David Montgomery.
08:57I think he makes people around him better.
08:59No doubt.
08:59I love his makeup, but I, I, it's not one of those, like, had you landed Kenneth Walker
09:04or had you landed Brees Hall and one of those attempts where, Hey man, we're right there
09:07at the door.
09:08Let's kick this thing in.
09:09Even if we, it's a little bit of risky move and maybe a risky, a risky move from a contract
09:14perspective, the center position, same thing.
09:17I mean, well, even worse cause they haven't done anything.
09:19So, um, I would have liked, I would have liked to have seen a bigger splash move.
09:23And, and I just think that as, like I said earlier, I think D'Amico Ryan's is the guy
09:27that's going to step in.
09:28If somebody comes available on D'Amico Ryan's radar, I think he's the one that steps in and
09:33makes the big splash move.
09:34I think as, as long as they're, uh, according to plan, if you will, I think it's going to
09:40be more of what we've already seen.
09:42Is there, and maybe you guys, is there, has there been an offensive player and that's in
09:47this, this regime, has there been an offensive player where it was like to hell with it?
09:53We got to have it.
09:54Like, I felt like they said that with Daniel Hunter.
09:56I said, I think they said to hell with it.
09:58We'll, we'll, we'll, we'll guarantee two years of a contract at 40 something.
10:03We got to have it.
10:04Was it, was it, I mean, I think, I think, I mean, well, Diggs, yeah, I guess you trade
10:10a second round pick for it.
10:11Then you accelerate all the money into one year and you restructure and put it all into
10:14one year.
10:14You paid him over 20 some odd million.
10:16That is a guy like, like I said, there was a list that I saw out there of players that
10:20the most money made by a player that only spent one year with that franchise and the
10:26Texans had two of them.
10:28Osweiler was on that list and, and, and Stefan Diggs was on that list.
10:33And so, yeah, maybe him, I mean, look, I think they, they, they inherited obviously
10:40Laramie Tunsil and maybe I think they paid him.
10:43They re-upped him one time.
10:44Didn't they give him, did they give him?
10:45I think Nick, Nick did.
10:46I know Nick did.
10:47I'm thinking of D'Amico though.
10:48But, but, but so, you know, maybe, maybe a couple of those guys, but yeah, I don't,
10:53I don't know that there's been anybody that they, you know, was really a risky, like,
10:58all right, man, we're at the doorstep.
10:59Let's make the, let's take this big ass swing.
11:02Offensively.
11:02Yeah.
11:02I don't, I don't, yeah.
11:03I don't think offensively.
11:04Because it thought it might happen with Barkley, but they, they came down with, with Joe Mixon,
11:09which was a good, a good settle, I guess.
11:14And then maybe Diggs, Diggs may be the closest where they, they use real draft capital to
11:19get him.
11:20But I don't know.
11:22Yeah.
11:23I don't know.
11:24Hopefully it works out.
11:25Hopefully it works out for him.
11:27It's still time though.
11:28It's still time to make a move.
11:29There's still potentials for trades and everything in there.
11:31You're squinting.
11:31Oh, I know.
11:32I know it.
11:33I'm just telling you, they're going to make it.
11:34Somebody texted and said, there's going to be a whole lot of wait and see.
11:36Yeah.
11:37I know it.
