00:00This is something we've been doing leading up into training camp is, as we've said,
00:06if you've just kind of joined us the last couple of days, there are a lot of contenders
00:12on the AFC side, at least playoff-level contenders, teams that you could see before the start
00:19of the season make it into the postseason.
00:22And to be honest, there's probably, as we say, some teams that we aren't looking at
00:28that's probably going to be teams that are surprises that potentially will be playoff contenders.
00:37But we've gone over the Bengals, we've gone over the Chargers, and most of you have not,
00:43we have not run into, B. Scott and Tyler, any team yet that Texans fans, at least that tweet
00:52into us, have concerns about.
00:54We've not run into any with the Chargers and the Bengals.
00:57We have not run into it.
00:58No concerns.
00:59Not really.
01:00I mean, I think the consensus on Text Line, YouTube, and Twitch with both of those have
01:07been under fives.
01:10Yeah.
01:11Under fives.
01:12And like I told you, my family said they're going to the Super Bowl.
01:13They're going, hey, this is the year.
01:15This is the year.
01:16This is the year.
01:16All right.
01:17713-572-416, YouTube and Twitch.
01:20I see Isaiah already jumping in with his thoughts.
01:23Jump in.
01:23An AFC contender concern meter.
01:26Where is it for you with the New England Patriots?
01:30Where is it for you with the New England Patriots?
01:32The Patriots coming off a 14-3 season.
01:35They ended the Texan season in Foxboro in the divisional round.
01:40They went on to go to the Super Bowl where they got trounced by the Seattle Seahawks 29-13.
01:48And they have made some moves, though, B. Scott.
01:51They have obviously the huge moves they've made has been in the skill position spot.
01:57And that is with A.J. Brown and Romeo Dobbs.
02:01They brought both of those receivers.
02:03Those were two, right, I think, number one receivers on their respective teams.
02:08Was Romeo Dobbs the number one receiver?
02:10I would say he was the number one receiver.
02:12Did they still have Valdez Scantlin last year?
02:15No.
02:16Now, he ended up going to Pittsburgh.
02:17He ended up going to help out.
02:19Yeah.
02:19It would have been Romeo Dobbs.
02:20It was Romeo Dobbs because Christian Watson was injured a lot.
02:23So, yeah, Romeo, they took the Packers, who was a playoff team,
02:27and the Eagles, who were playoff teams,
02:28and took their number one receivers and brought them to New England.
02:32And it looked like the front office was aggressive in the trade market
02:36and free agency market, overhauling their pass-catching room.
02:40And they concentrated, as it says about their offseason,
02:45on prioritizing elite weapons, offensive line reconstruction,
02:51and a defensive front seven adding depth there.
02:55But they wanted to get better weapons for their young quarterback, Drake May.
03:00It's a novel concept.
03:02They said they wanted to build around their quarterback.
03:04That's what they did.
03:05They said they wanted to build around the Patriots.
03:06They're offseason building around MVP runner-up, Drake May.
03:10That's what they decided to do.
03:12It does help when your quarterback has an MVP-caliber season.
03:15Yes.
03:15And to be fair to the Texans,
03:17the last time their quarterback had an MVP-caliber season,
03:19they did a similar thing in the offseason.
03:22They got some offseason action going on.
03:24That's kind of a thing that people do.
03:27I'll start.
03:28Mine is an eight with this team.
03:31And I'll be honest, the A.J. Brown trade did a lot in my thinking with this group
03:39and some of the moves they've made on the offensive line.
03:42They put themselves where Will Campbell does not have to start for this team.
03:46They put themselves in that situation.
03:48Hell, they drafted their first-round pick.
03:51They drafted an offensive tackle out of Utah.
03:55So they've gotten a lot of help.
03:58Vera Tucker is a really good guard.
04:00They went out and got one of the top guards on the market.
04:02So they've improved their team.
04:04Now, the problem to me is their schedule.
04:08And their schedule is the thing that can be concerning for them
04:12because they get not only the first-place schedule.
04:15That part's a little tricky because that means they get the Steelers
04:19instead of the Ravens and the Bengals.
04:22And I think you'd probably rather that.
04:24That means they get Jacksonville.
04:25I think Jacksonville is okay, but Jacksonville maybe have taken a step back.
04:29I think people are probably higher on the Patriots than they are Jacksonville
04:33when we do the Jags.
04:35But they get the AFC West, which means they've got to play Denver, Chargers,
04:41Kansas City, and the Raiders.
04:42And then they get the NFC North, which means they get the Bears, the Lions,
04:47the Packers, and the Vikings.
04:48That might be the toughest division in football.
04:52But their skill positions are a group.
04:57They've got obviously Brown and Dobbs.
05:00So that means Booty moves down.
05:02They've got the running game is still the same with Stevenson
05:07and Henderson in year two with that speed and that one-two punch.
05:11Hunter Henry is pretty good.
05:12And as we said, they've improved their offensive line.
05:14And then, you know, he's had a hell of an offseason.
05:18And there's some other things that he is not great at.
05:22But Mike Vrabel can coach.
05:24And Mike Vrabel can coach teams like this.
05:27We saw in year one he got that group to a Super Bowl.
05:30So to me, the Patriots are a dangerous team because their skill position,
05:37and they were one of the best offenses in football last year anyway,
05:40and they have gotten a lot better with their skills.
05:43Yeah, so they're at a seven for me on the concern.
05:46So I'm a little bit lower than you.
05:48But I would say that for similar reasons, they're a seven.
05:52Like it's brought up to a seven.
05:53I think because of their schedule, they would be a lot lower on this list
05:58had they not made some of those moves that they made,
06:01namely the A.J. Brown move, which I think levels them up to a certain degree.
06:05And depending on what you think of Drake May,
06:07like if you were bought in on what you saw from Drake May,
06:10and I was for the most part in what I saw from Drake May last year,
06:14then you figure giving a young, talented quarterback like that an option,
06:19a number one option like A.J. Brown is only going to make him better.
06:23So I think their schedule is better, but I think they are also better.
06:27And so it comes down to how do they handle said schedule.
06:32Yeah, I don't think they're going to win 14 games.
06:34Exactly.
06:34But they may be better than they were last year.
06:36How do they survive?
06:38Like even if they don't win 14 games, if they win 11 or 12 games
06:42and they're still standing in the postseason,
06:44how do you feel about facing that team looking the way it's looking now?
06:48And especially handling a schedule like it has in front of it.
06:51So to me, the concern, it can't be less than a seven.
06:55I think just out of respect for a team that just went to the Super Bowl,
06:59that's returning a lot of the things that helped them get to the Super Bowl.
07:02Like I know they lost to Fon Diggs, but for the most part,
07:04they got their quarterback and they got the defense to help them get there.
07:07They're largely the team that got to the Super Bowl, adding A.J. Brown to it.
07:11I think you've got to give that team its proper respect
07:14and at least have it be a six or a seven.
07:17And probably, depending on what you think about Drake May,
07:20what you think about A.J. Brown being brought into the mix,
07:22they could be as high as an eight, just like you got them.
07:24So I think this is properly situated.
07:26Seven, eight, somewhere in that category, I would give them a seven.
07:29I do think that it's a question like for the Patriots,
07:33are they the best team in their division?
07:35Because the Bills are still right there.
07:38I think that that's going to be an interesting division
07:40because you can kind of go either way there.
07:42But out of the two of them, or between the two of them,
07:44I think you've got two serious teams.
07:46Yep.
07:47Text line coming through YouTube and Twitch.
07:50What's your concern meter for the New England Patriots?
07:54The team that ended the Texans' season last year,
07:57they made some grades, especially in the skills.
07:59Isaiah, zero concern.
08:01Patriots will miss the playoffs.
08:03He said Dobbs is not a number one, LOL.
08:06I'm just telling you, he was a number one for the Packers last year,
08:08and he doesn't have to be the number one in New England
08:11because he's got –
08:13but I'm just telling you, they took two playoff teams in the NFC.
08:19They're top receivers on good, decent offenses.
08:22I know that the stuff with the – I mean, the Eagles were weird last year.
08:27But we know A.J. Brown's talent, right?
08:29And for the Packers, he was their top wide receiver.
08:33They've added both of those guys to this team
08:36and made arguably, you know, Booty a third.
08:40They got Mac Hollins over there as a fourth or a fifth,
08:43the kid who caught the touchdown coming across the middle to open up the game.
08:46The one that doesn't wear shoes.
08:48Mac is the one who doesn't wear shoes.
08:49But then they got – whoever that – Douglas.
08:52Douglas who caught the touchdown, he's still over there with that crew
08:56in year two in the system with Josh McDaniels and a situation like that.
09:01DeMario Douglas, yeah.
09:02Yeah, DeMario Douglas, yeah.
09:03Text line coming in, healthy concern for the Patriots,
09:05but the issue with Vrabel and the harder schedule could see them falling off.
09:10Like, to me, before all the offseason moves,
09:14I thought, well, the Patriots are a prime team
09:16to be the one that doesn't make the playoffs.
09:19And they still could.
09:20Yeah.
09:20That doesn't make the playoffs.
09:22But they are – they didn't just sit back
09:24and just continue to run with the same team.
09:26They got better.
09:27Well, and it seems like the only way they could not be a concern at all,
09:31and I'll give credit to the texture,
09:33if it's zero, the only way it could be zero
09:36is if you think they're not going to make the playoffs.
09:38Because if they make the playoffs, there has to be some concern about them.
09:43They literally just beat you the year before.
09:44So that would be ridiculous with the same – relatively the same team.
09:48So that would be ridiculous for them to be no concern, again,
09:52unless you think because of that schedule
09:54and because of all the other stuff that they got going on,
09:56maybe you even think that A.J. Brown is combustible
09:58and that bringing him in –
10:00Yeah, and that's possible.
10:01Yeah, and that could turn out to be a problem.
10:04I think it does help that Mike Vrabel obviously has a history with him.
10:08Yeah.
10:09It knows him, and I've got to believe that was a big part of the sign-off.
10:12Now, I will say this –
10:13But Mike Vrabel needs to be there.
10:14He needs to be there in attention.
10:16You're right, Mike.
10:16In present.
10:17That has died down, though.
10:18I think – right, Tyler, I think we're good on the microphone.
10:21I thought –
10:21Now.
10:22I thought it was touch and go.
10:24I thought Mike might be out of a job.
10:25I thought it might keep coming.
10:27But this is the thing.
10:28We don't know what's going on at home, man.
10:30We don't know what's going on.
10:31I assume it's all good.
10:32Yeah, but I hope it is, just to be clear.
10:34I hope it is.
10:34But I mean, for the safety of his job, though,
10:37I thought he might – this TMZ thing may keep coming out
10:41and he might lose his gig.
10:43I thought the pressure might mount that he may have to step away.
10:47This has slowed down and it has since become about football
10:51unless somebody's got something else in the holster.
10:54But if it ain't right at home,
10:55we understand how that could take you away from some things.
10:58He seems like a guy that compartmentalizes.
11:01I thought.
11:03I thought.
11:04I thought he was compartmentalizing pretty good for a while
11:06until I learned that he wasn't.
11:08I learned that he was a little bit more distracted
11:10than I ever thought that Mike Rabel would be.
11:12I will say, I really like – first off, I love the idea of them going out
11:18and just attacking things to help their young quarterback that they believe in.
11:23He needs weapons.
11:23Let's go get them weapons.
11:25But I don't think – like when I look at the Patriots, fellas,
11:29I don't look at it and think that they're on a different tier or level
11:33than the Texans.
11:35I think they are the same level.
11:39Like if they were doing this in New England on WWEI, whatever it is, that's it.
11:46Yeah, that's it.
11:46If they were doing that over there,
11:48I would think they would have the Texans at around seven or eight
11:53in terms of their concern.
11:54I mean, honestly, they should be lesser, right,
11:57because they're the ones that actually won the game
11:59and they anted up on the team.
12:01Like they could have their own concerns about their schedule
12:03and how the season is going to play out.
12:04But if you just bring up the Texans and say,
12:07hey, how much does this team concern you,
12:08I would figure they would have a lower number than the one that we have.
12:11Maybe.
12:12Maybe because they just beat them.
12:13Maybe.
12:13And that would completely make sense to me.
12:15I would understand that.
12:16They just went to the Super Bowl, man.
12:18So that should be a confident group, a confident bunch.
12:21I think that Texans fans should probably look at them as a team
12:25that's going to be right there, right there in the thick of it.
12:27Absolutely.
12:28Absolutely.
12:30I mean, I don't know why you wouldn't be concerned about the New England Patriots
12:33at this point.
12:35Like, honestly, other than some of the off-the-field stuff,
12:39like on the field, they're as good of a football team as you are, right?
12:43And they actually believe in their quarterback.
12:46They're probably a more balanced team right now.
12:48Well, I'd say balanced of, like, their offense and defense combination
12:57is more balanced in terms of the belief in.
13:00Yeah.
13:01They have a good defense and they have a good quarterback.
13:03I think every team that has that combination, good defense, quarterback
13:08that you can trust, should be a team that has a healthy amount of concern for you.
13:12With good weapons.
13:13With good weapons now on top of that.
13:14With good weapons, right.
13:15So, yeah, I would think that they are in a similar position.
13:20And they beat you last year with DeMario, Douglas, and Bouty.
13:24So, and no disrespect to those guys.
13:26They had Stephon Diggs.
13:27Well, yeah, but this is – so, Stephon Diggs, DeMario, Davis, and Bouty.
13:32To me, A.J. Brown, Romeo Dobbs, and Bouty,
13:37I think that's a better collection of guys.
13:39Yeah, the Vrabel, A.J. Brown – because A.J. Brown has got –
13:44he's got a real George Pickens thing going right now, right, man.
13:47Man, I love it here.
13:48Yeah.
13:49I had my rug, my Patriots rug.
13:51Like, but those things could go left.
13:55A.J. could go left.
13:57Vrabel – I feel like Vrabel's in the clear.
14:00I think the Vrabel thing is in the clear.
14:03To me, it's – to me, the biggest thing is their schedule
14:08and how A.J. Brown responds and does their defense take a step back.
14:13To me, again, with the Vrabel thing, it's less about him getting fired, per se,
14:17and more so about how it all, if at all, it weighs on him.
14:21And I don't know if it does.
14:22It may not.
14:23Like you say, he can compartmentalize, and maybe the smoke has died down,
14:27but that's more so the issue.
14:29He seemed like the type of person who – I know this stuff may be weighing on him,
14:33but he can't wait to get to the stadium so then he can really do what he wants.
14:37Oh, yeah.
14:37Probably his least.
14:38Yeah.
14:40He's Kobe coming from Colorado.
14:42Shut up, Tyler.
14:43Don't you dare.
14:45Oh, I say this is his release.
14:46His release.
14:47I did say that.
14:53His release is the issue.
14:55Yeah, his release.
14:55Well, it's been an issue.
14:57All right.
14:57All right.
