00:00All right, Clint, your thoughts from C.J. Stroud
00:04and what you saw from him last night.
00:07Three turnovers, five fumbles, two fumbles that he lost
00:11from those five fumbles through an interception.
00:16And obviously, I had people texting me.
00:19I'm going to tell you this.
00:20I had people texting me, people who covered the Texans.
00:25Is this the worst game that C.J.'s ever played?
00:29And people outside of the city texting.
00:34You think C.J.'s going to get paid next year?
00:38You think he's going to be the quarterback long term?
00:40So that performance on the big stage, seeing C.J.
00:44let Joe Buck at one point say,
00:46what is going on on the snaps and the mishandles?
00:50What was your thoughts from what you saw last night?
00:53Well, I thought it wasn't good.
00:55For me personally, I think it's concerning.
00:59Whether you're talking about paying him big money
01:01or you're talking about the team's ability to win a Super Bowl this year
01:03and moving forward with C.J. Stroud behind center.
01:07I mean, this is not a rough game because you made a couple of poor decisions.
01:11This is not a rough game because you took some sacks.
01:14This was a rough game for C.J. Stroud because he was completely overwhelmed
01:26for extended periods of time.
01:28The moment appeared to be too big for C.J. Stroud multiple times in this game.
01:35The environment, right, on the road, in the cold, at night, in the playoffs,
01:40appeared to be too big for C.J. Stroud.
01:44C.J. appeared to panic multiple times in this game.
01:48I don't even care to look at the interception alone or the fumbles in a vacuum.
01:54I'm just looking at the overall big picture, and you can't ignore it
02:00because C.J. Stroud, right, that's not – I mean, C.J. Stroud is a very,
02:09very gifted passer of the football.
02:13He is going to make throws down the field if the offensive line –
02:16if they're running the football the way they were
02:18and the offensive line can protect him,
02:19he's going to hit two or three throws down the field
02:21that are going to swing field position, hopefully you get some points.
02:25Bigger picture is C.J. Stroud as a quarterback that's –
02:29a good – a really good young quarterback that's had great moments.
02:33Is he developing?
02:35Is he trending in the right direction, or is he regressing?
02:38I would say the last two years he's regressed.
02:40I would say last night was one of C.J. Stroud's worst performances.
02:45And, again, it's not about turning the ball over.
02:47It's not about winning the game or not winning the game.
02:50It's about watching him play the quarterback position.
02:54Last night was very, very concerning.
02:58You know, you look at the fumbled snaps or not catching the snap,
03:05and it's one thing to do that once.
03:08It's even one thing to do it once, pick the football up,
03:11and maybe even compound a bad play into a worse play, right?
03:14But there were three dropped snaps, one of which wasn't his fault.
03:19There was a bobbled snap right after a timeout that causes a distraction
03:23from his rhythm, his ability to catch the ball and read the defense.
03:27Like, it's not about making a mistake with C.J. Stroud,
03:31and really with this whole offense, because I think Nick Kaley can –
03:34this same point can be made about Nick Kaley.
03:37It's about when things go wrong, they tend to cost you a quarter
03:46or a half of football, right?
03:49And the only explanation to that is the moment is too big.
03:55The moment is overwhelming.
03:57The player, the individual is panicking.
04:01And that is the bigger picture concern for me for C.J. Stroud.
04:06I don't believe that C.J. Stroud has limitations in what he –
04:10physically what he can do on the football field.
04:12Whether we're talking about being a pro-style passer
04:14or we're talking about driving the football down the field
04:17or we're talking about, you know, work in the pocket, using his legs.
04:20I think he naturally, instinctually does those things well.
04:23But there's something about when that moment is big,
04:28are you cool, calm, and collected, or do you have happy-ass feet?
04:32Because I'll say it a million times.
04:33You can see a quarterback think through his feet.
04:36And when them feet start jumping around all over the place
04:39and he starts panicking, looking left, looking right,
04:42not knowing where to go with the football
04:43and how to get out of the situation he's in, you've got a major problem.
04:46And the reality of it is, on the flip side,
04:49this is not an offense like Caleb Williams is in
04:53where it's like, oh, don't worry about it, man.
04:55You missed a wide open throw.
04:57We're going to come back and we're going to dial up another one for you
04:59right here on second down.
05:00Guess what?
05:01You missed again.
05:01We're going to dial up another one right here on third down.
05:03Oh, you threw a pick.
05:04We're going to come back and we're going to be ultra-aggressive
05:06the rest of the game and create these down-the-field opportunities.
05:09That's not the offense that C.J. Stroud has been tasked with executing
05:13and leading, right?
05:14This offense is about minimizing risk.
05:18This offense is about minimizing negative plays.
05:23And we're having a problem.
05:25We've heard getting out of the huddle.
05:26We've heard communication.
05:27Now you can add catching snaps.
05:29And now we're talking about C.J. Stroud,
05:32a guy that we're hoping can win Super Bowls here in Houston.
05:35And you're talking about paying $50 or $60 million.
05:37And we're talking about, oh, I'm just so proud of him
05:39because he didn't go in the tank.
05:42That's where we're at with C.J. Stroud.
05:44It's not a, hey, man, we expect him to be one of the best quarterbacks
05:48in the league.
05:48And when he's not, hey, man, you've got to be better.
05:51Offensively, we've got to be better.
05:53It literally is, oh, but, man, can't talk about Christian Kirk
05:57having a good day unless you talk about C.J. Stroud.
05:59Hey, man, I'm just proud of C.J. Stroud not going in the tank.
06:02A lot of guys go in the tank.
06:03No, they don't.
06:04The great ones that live in the playoffs and win a ton of football games
06:07and play the position at a high level, they don't.
06:09Right?
06:09I mean, that's the most concerning thing to me is what I watch,
06:13and then it's followed up with handle with kid gloves,
06:15and, boy, I'm just proud he didn't go in the tank.
06:20Like, that's where we're at on that side of the ball.
06:23Yeah.
06:24Text line chiming in on this.
06:26Love how you all take a single game and turn it into a referendum
06:30on his career.
06:31Yes, it was one of his worst games, and it was a single game.
06:35Yep.
06:35I just believe you're full of it and that you wouldn't be saying this
06:40if they lost.
06:41And I think you probably – I'm going on a limb –
06:46probably somebody who follows football,
06:49and I think that you know that C.J. Stroud has not been playing
06:52at a high level and not to the level that the expectations were for him
06:57after his first year.
06:59And I think you can put all of that together.
07:03Like, I'm hopeful that he doesn't do this again.
07:06I'm hopeful that he doesn't – but, man,
07:08they're not even asking him to do much.
07:12That interception – like, I'm going to just be honest, fellas.
07:19C.J. Stroud don't do enough good for him to be able to make up
07:23for a decision like that on this team.
07:28Right?
07:29Like, Josh – ah, Josh Allen pisses you off with some of his turnovers,
07:33but Josh Allen is also just doing every single thing for the team.
07:37Like, he is the Texans defense for that team.
07:42He's just not – like, he's just – like, C.J. is being called upon to,
07:46hey, man, just get us in the right stuff.
07:49Don't turn it over.
07:50Don't – he's not – no, he doesn't do enough for him to be able to make
07:54decisions and mistakes like that.
07:57Now, some of that's not on him.
07:59I think he's, as you said, very capable, and I believe they should treat him
08:04and ask him to do more than he does.
08:06But right now, they're not.
08:08He can't make those decisions.
08:10Now, that does not mean that C.J. Stroud can't go and play up to his potential
08:14and play a good game against the Patriots on Sunday.
08:18I believe he can.
08:19I'll just tell you, C.J. Stroud has been a middle-of-the-road quarterback
08:24the last year plus, and you can't do that being a 13 to 15 –
08:3110 to 15 range quarterback.
08:33Well, look, I mean, to the texture, it's not a referendum on a career.
08:36It's a conversation about a piss-poor performance.
08:38I mean, and if you want to ignore it, you can ignore it.
08:40That's fine.
08:40Nobody's telling you you've got to play about.
08:44I'm just telling you that, I mean, the expectations for C.J. Stroud
08:48are never going to be lower.
08:50Like, what a team is asking a quarterback to do is easier in Houston
08:57than it is anywhere in the country.
08:59I mean, they're literally asking you to not drop snaps.
09:03They're literally asking, C.J., don't turn the ball over when we've got points.
09:06Don't turn it over.
09:07They're literally asking you to catch a snap and just –
09:10they're not even asking you to make great plays.
09:13They're okay with punting.
09:15Like, just don't turn the ball over to the other team in field goal range
09:19so that they can get three points.
09:20Hit Niko Collins 15, 20 yards down the field when nobody's around.
09:24It's never going to be easier to quarterback a football team
09:28than it is right now for C.J. Stroud.
09:31And he struggled mightily with that yesterday.
09:35And the bigger picture is, to me, the panic, the overwhelming –
09:42you know, the way he appeared, he was overwhelmed.
09:45And it's not a referendum on anybody's career.
09:47I mean, it just – we're at a point in the – speaking of career,
09:51I mean, I don't know how long you guys are going to want to sit around
09:53and watch a freakishly talented quarterback that we've seen play
09:58at a Pro Bowl level.
09:59How many years does he play before you start expecting him to do certain things?
10:06Like, again, just – just don't lose the game is all he's being asked to do.
10:12Like, at what point are you going to turn the corner on C.J.
10:15and be like, hey, man, yeah, I expect a little bit more out of him.
10:17We expect right off the bat that C.J.'s not the reason that they lose.
10:21And now they're even playing a style of ball that he – that even pushes that even more.
10:28Ron, it was seven –
10:29Everybody played great yesterday, well yesterday, except for the quarterback.
10:31It was seven to six in the fourth quarter.
10:34It was ten to six, and Sheldon Rankins –
10:38Made the big play.
10:39Goes and scores a touchdown to make you – I mean, you were literally one play
10:44in the fourth quarter from one of the greatest quarterbacks that's ever played the game
10:47and D.K. Metcalf, an absolute freak of nature, from losing a game
10:51because your quarterback –
10:55Kept turning the ball over.
10:56Kept turning the – because it's not because you couldn't run the ball.
10:58It wasn't because you couldn't protect him.
10:59Yeah.
11:00It was because you killed three drives with turnovers.
11:02Whew.
11:04I mean, it's one of those – it's funny how, boy, the defense goes out there
11:07and scores two points, and then the conversations are completely off limits
11:09about QB – about QB one.
11:13All right.
11:13Great job, Clint.
11:14Great job, Tyler.
11:15I am Ron.
11:15The show is always Houston.
11:17We love you, baby.
11:18Just one minute.
11:20Five, seven, two, four, six, ten.
11:26Sweet Tyler Milner will open up the phone lines for you.
11:29Seven, one, three, five, seven, two, four.
11:31Yeah, man.
11:32Sweet T, man.
11:33Yeah, man.
11:34He could be an honor, honor, palm or whatever you need for him, baby.
11:37I thought it was Lauren.
11:38Yeah, that was – he was on it.
11:43Tyler Milner, you are the greatest producer in the world.
