01:40clint let's go through the moves that the texans have made and the latest here and i want to get

01:45thoughts on this one first uh the latest is sheldon rankins they have re-signed sheldon rankins
01:51they strike a two-year deal with him and uh the veteran d tackle who i think sheldon rankin scored
01:58more touchdowns than joe mixon last year i think sheldon had two touchdowns last year yeah uh and he
02:02gets a 12 million guaranteed gets 12 million guaranteed in this new contract two-year deal
02:10clint they were without him um after he became a free agent a couple of years ago he went to
02:15cincinnati they were open about man we really wanted to get him in the money just got too rich
02:20and cincinnati was able to get him when they got him back they were really really happy he has a
02:25great relationship as kind of a mentor to will anderson jr so there is a good connection there
02:30your thoughts on them keeping one of their own keeping sheldon rankins back i love it i absolutely
02:37love it and you didn't mention uh ron when he when he was in since he had had a bad

02:41remember what i can't remember some kind of sickness that that really set him back and so that year was
02:46more of a year off for him comes back here uh and uh and reunites with demiko ryan's and has

02:52great year look i i think i think obviously we as a tex as texans fans you understand that the
02:58headliner your corners and your and your defensive ends we we get that right and and the middle
03:02linebacker gets a lot of attention safety in the back end is playing well the guys that that we
03:07often forget about are those interior defensive linemen um hell i've been i've been jonesing for
03:12four or five years now go get go get a big name go get this guy go get that like
03:16use a first round
03:17pick and and they just and demiko keeps bringing in guys and and finding the right guys to be heavy
03:22rotational pieces and those guys seem to play at or above their ceiling and sheldon rankins is one of
03:27those guys he's been tremendous on the field but i think the biggest piece the biggest piece for for
03:33sheldon i mean for the for the texans with sheldon rankins is we've had him multiple times on on the
03:37post game show and you mentioned it a bit there being a mentor to uh will anderson and i'd say
03:43not
03:43just will anderson but a lot of the young guys on the defensive side of the football and probably
03:46some even on the offensive side of the football i think he is one of those glue guys he's one
03:51of those
03:51older long in a tooth guys that that that carries himself with a certain professional way that i
03:59think it's it's valuable for for young play really all players to have these kind of guys in your
04:04locker room and so i think on all fronts sheldon rankins is is a is a good keep if you
04:09will for the
04:10houston texans we he saw life without demiko we saw life without him in that interior and uh i think
04:16i
04:16think they're they're better together obviously so here we are lots of things there keeps uh
04:21options open at that pick at 28 right like a lot of people saw them going defensive tackle they've
04:28brought back sheldon rankin so we know they have him and tommy in the middle right there at least
04:33obviously we know they'll have more bodies there and they could still go there but they
04:36they leave themselves not in a position where they feel like they have to add to defensive tackle
04:42i think they will but i may not have to add starter quality you've got the you got the two
04:47guys that
04:47started your super i mean super both started your your last your last uh game of the season in the
04:52i'm trying i'm trying man um you know you got those two guys back in there so you feel good
04:57about
04:57just your your front line but obviously we know that demiko ryan likes to rotate particularly the
05:02defensive tackles uh really the defensive front all four guys across the front he rotates the heck out
05:07of them and so there's clearly a depth play there do they go the the young do they go a
05:12proven
05:12veteran that is a true depth player both by his his his production his resume and the money that
05:19he's going to make or do they go the route of the draft and and bring a guy in that
05:24hey you may hit
05:25and the guy may be developed and mature and ready to be a starter and ready to be a player
05:29that's better
05:30than your front line guys now but if not he just he's he's a rotational piece until he develops into
05:35a
05:35starter um so they've got options on the defensive front now i do think there was a dire need
05:42at the defensive tackle position simply because you didn't have enough bodies there was a dire need
05:48to do something and i think sheldon rankins alleviates that that dire part of it now there's
05:54a need there obviously and you've got several ways that you can attack it if you'd like yeah uh no
05:59man
06:00this is uh this is a good move for them to keep him in the other big move and i
06:04would say this this
06:05would be one of the big o-line moves we tried to see what they were going to do at
06:09o-line we know
06:10they traded away their best offensive lineman from last couple of years you could argue last
06:15year definitely uh they trade titus howard to the browns now with that they've made a mood they are
06:22bringing back and re-signing ed ingram uh who was a big pick this is one of the success stories
06:28um at least year one for uh nick cassero and company and what they've done on the o-line they
06:33bring in ed ingram i don't even believe that ed was in the initial plans to be the guy that
06:38was
06:38starting but then he took over and had a great year the texans they're bringing him back uh he
06:43will not hit free agency after agreeing to a three-year 37 and a half million dollar deal
06:50this includes 23 and a half million in guarantees that he gets right up front so he is in the
06:58fold so
06:59now they know they have their right guard clint uh this move for you at ed ingram we were talking
07:04about how will they look what will they do on the offensive line i would assume you like this move
07:09i i love it on all fronts ron you they they bring back one of the top available guards uh
07:15that was
07:16going to be available in free agency it's it's the one that they're oh that they are ridiculously
07:20familiar with and that is that is ed ingram look i mean and they bring him back at what um
07:25what on
07:26paper is a discount i mean folks think yeah folks think that he was going to draw 15 to 18
07:31million
07:32you get him for 12 and a half a year uh so that's a win and when you look at
07:36who ed ingram was last
07:37year again the pff rankings for what they're worth he was the eighth best run blocking guard uh in in
07:43football and in 900 plus snaps three penalties four sacks allowed did struggle a bit with 24 pressures
07:50allowed in that 900 snaps i think that that is is not a great number but i mean it's it's
07:57it's really
07:58good the overall the total package if if you are at ingram is is is impressive and so i think
08:04for
08:04the texans in desperate need of interior offensive linemen to go out there and get one of one of the
08:10best guards that's available and again the one that you know the most about you know exactly what
08:14you're paying for and uh he's back in there you solidify that right side of your offensive line at
08:19least the part that when they were in the game when they were healthy they ran you ran the football
08:24better uh and it seemed like i don't know what the numbers will tell you but it seemed like the
08:27texans tended to run behind uh ed ingram and and trent brown on that right side and so um for
08:35what
08:35it's worth you got those guys back on that right side i think building that that um you know that
08:41side
08:41of the ball up to give you a shot to run it which we know this group wants to do
08:44at a at a better clip
08:46um they're they're well on their way to getting better there listen two things for me on the ed
08:50ingram thing uh and i see some people jumping in with their thoughts they overpaid they did a
08:55whole lot of nothing i listen i i'm with you i like the ed ingram move right now first for
09:04me i
09:04understand that ed ingram and and i've heard seth talk about it heard him talk about it this morning
09:09and people have we've talked about it pass blocking is not you know his strength and why they signed him
09:15here right but we understand what they want to do they went out and got david montgomery we understand
09:21what they have been expressing what they want to do and they run the run the football and he has
09:25been
09:26and was really good in run blocking last year one of the best interior run run blockers in the league
09:33now past protection he is he has got to pick up and get better and you're hoping he does that
09:38this
09:38year but obviously his past protection what nothing so much so weird like boy he's a problem got to get
09:43his ass up out of there um he they want to run the football they want to be physical and
09:49i think
09:49uh i think he brings that to the table and that makes sense for them to go bring in somebody
09:54that that that kind of is simple exemplifies what they want to be now the problem that i i would
10:01have
10:02with it is where i won't love it is if if ed ingram's the best move like if if we
10:08get done here
10:09clint tyler and ed ingram if we look at it we're like all right ed ingram that was the big
10:15free agent move they made across the offensive line and then the rest of it is depending on
10:22you know rookies or lower free agents that to me is when i will look at it and feel different
10:29about it
10:29but ed ingram if he's just the start of guys and they try something at center we'll talk about that
10:36here in the next segment they try something at that left guard spot where they get a bigger name
10:42and a big time player or even one of the tackle spots i can get with that but right now
10:47i like the
10:47move the only way to me that that that i will have an issue with it is if he is
10:52if he is the the number
10:54one free agent prize that you went at yeah i i see where you're coming from and now it looked
10:59here's
11:00my deal if they if they sign if it's a conversation i don't have a problem with it if they
11:05sign a
11:05comparable guard on the left side if they sign a comparable center in the middle and then do
11:09something maybe draft or even free agent wise at that right tackle spot and we still look at it
11:14like like he's the best of all those signs i'll be okay if it's a conversation um but it that
11:22would
11:22be a hell of a deal is if they're able to get ed ingram level players at three more three
11:26at least
11:27two more if not three more shots so we'll see if they get it done again i would think to
11:31me they
11:31would be a little bit more aggressive than the 12 and a half whatever at o-line that'd be one
11:37of
11:37the spots so still time still a lot of time for that to happen all right clint we have got
11:42to address
11:43something there has no there has been nobody in this city that has been more gung-ho on the fact
11:50that
11:50the texans need to have a center they've got to have a center got to have one there have been
11:56a lot
11:56a lot of centers come off the board including one with just a crazy crazy contract
